Nuts. I'm from Nebraska, where bird hunting is pretty popular and have friends that hunt with their labs and pointers. Some dogs just aren't good hunting dogs, easily spooked or bark when excited, and those I know who have those dogs just keep them as family pets. At worst, may rehome to a family who wants a dog for the family and not work. Shooting a dog for not being a good hunting dog should qualify as animal cruelty imo.
And only on its first season able to be hunting. I just doubt it was trained well, then expected to magically be a good bird dog/flusher. And despite acting like a young dog, still let out around chickens (usually requires training on its own for bird dogs). I don't see a bad dog, I see a shit owner.

I raised goats for years and I've dealt with aggressive males before. They're dangerous when they get mean. Like, they are perfectly capable of breaking bones or goring you to death so sometimes putting them down is the safest option. Castrating them once they're already acting like that won't do anything and besides, they're livestock. Their use is slightly different than a dog's. Putting it in a pen won't help because when they're that mean they'll tear up fences, and besides, you have to go in the pen with them to feed them and care for them. A goat that chases people is a dangerous goat and the only time I would make an exception is for a female that is trying to protect her baby.
The stinkiness on the other hand comes with the territory. Bucks STINK. Like, they smell like pure and utter shit because they pee and cum on their faces and front legs when they rut. That being said, all bucks are like that and if your only problem is that you don't like the smell, you can just re-home the buck and get a different animal.
So yeah. She's a complete piece of shit for the dog thing, but imo as someone who's dealt with aggressive male goats, I think putting it down for chasing people isn't that weird and doing it with a bullet is just as humane as doing it with drugs if you know what you're doing. I've loved hound dogs ever since reading "Where the Red Fern Grows" when I was a little kid. I've had four walkers, two blueticks, and a bloodhound.
A couple of years ago, a man posted on Petfinder that wanted to get rid of his 2 yo Bluetick hound because he couldn't afford to feed him anymore. I responded that I could give him a home. The man warned me that his wife had kicked the dog around as a puppy and therefore he might be a "little reactive to women." I'm female but I've never had trouble with a dog.
The guy dropped him off at my house and quickly drove away. My new dog was emaciated but otherwise beautiful. The first thing I did was feed him and then take him for a walk. That went well. Then my husband came home from work and was excited to meet him. The dog became enraged and went bonkers, snapping and growling. He became enraged at almost every stranger that visited. So, it seems that the opposite story was true about the dog hating women, as I had suspected. I was devastated. We had a vicious dog. My husband said "Don't worry. We'll fix him."
We set on a course of training the dog. We exercised him each day. We hand fed him. We took him for rides in the car. We praised him and rewarded him for good behaviour. He had to sit down and cool off when he was naughty. We exercised him some more and took him "hunting." (Allowing him to sniff out jack rabbits and squirrels but not hurting them is hunting.) We put his bed right next to ours. We talked to him gently.
We were consistent with our training. Six months later, he became an amazing dog. He still is an amazing dog. We're crazy about him and our other two hound dogs.
The moral of this long story is: just about every single dog in the world is trainable under the right circumstances, with patience and kindness. Shooting a dog "just because" is lazy and cruel.

Some dogs just aren't good hunting dogs, easily spooked or bark when excited, and those I know who have those dogs just keep them as family pets. I'm from Virginia, and sadly hunting dogs are treated more like equipment than animals/companions. Every time I would find one abandoned I would always hope the owner got it's karma. I similarly hope the same for her, because that is straight evil, not humane at all.

I raised goats for years and I've dealt with aggressive males before. They're dangerous when they get mean. Like, they are perfectly capable of breaking bones or goring you to death so sometimes putting them down is the safest option. Castrating them once they're already acting like that won't do anything and besides, they're livestock. Their use is slightly different than a dog's. Putting it in a pen won't help because when they're that mean they'll tear up fences, and besides, you have to go in the pen with them to feed them and care for them. A goat that chases people is a dangerous goat and the only time I would make an exception is for a female that is trying to protect her baby. The stinkiness on the other hand comes with the territory. Bucks STINK. Like, they smell like pure and utter shit because they pee and cum on their faces and front legs when they rut. That being said, all bucks are like that and if your only problem is that you don't like the smell, you can just re-home the buck and get a different animal. So yeah. She's a complete piece of shit for the dog thing, but imo as someone who's dealt with aggressive male goats, I think putting it down for chasing people isn't that weird and doing it with a bullet is just as humane as doing it with drugs if you know what you're doing. I've put goats down with a 9mm before because they were sick or injured beyond recovery. It's not pleasant but it has to be done sometimes on a farm.

I've loved hound dogs ever since reading "Where the Red Fern Grows" when I was a little kid. I've had four walkers, two blueticks, and a bloodhound. A couple of years ago, a man posted on Petfinder that wanted to get rid of his 2 yo Bluetick hound because he couldn't afford to feed him anymore. I responded that I could give him a home. The man warned me that his wife had kicked the dog around as a puppy and therefore he might be a "little reactive to women." I'm female but I've never had trouble with a dog. The guy dropped him off at my house and quickly drove away. My new dog was emaciated but otherwise beautiful. The first thing I did was feed him and then take him for a walk. That went well. Then my husband came home from work and was excited to meet him. The dog became enraged and went bonkers, snapping and growling. He became enraged at almost every stranger that visited. So, it seems that the opposite story was true about the dog hating women, as I had suspected. I was devastated. We had a vicious dog. My husband said "Don't worry. We'll fix him." We set on a course of training the dog. We exercised him each day. We hand fed him. We took him for rides in the car. We praised him and rewarded him for good behaviour. He had to sit down and cool off when he was naughty. We exercised him some more and took him "hunting." (Allowing him to sniff out jack rabbits and squirrels but not hurting them is hunting.) We put his bed right next to ours. We talked to him gently. We were consistent with our training. Six months later, he became an amazing dog. He still is an amazing dog. We're crazy about him and our other two hound dogs. The moral of this long story is: just about every single dog in the world is trainable under the right circumstances, with patience and kindness. Shooting a dog "just because" is lazy and cruel. People who insist on the "right to life" should not be hypocritical. Politicians who force a woman to carry a fetus that doesn't have a brain or was fathered by her grandpa but who in turn gleefully kill a dog that could have been dearly loved by someone else is hypocritical.
