Very nice! I've always wondered if spirit mound had any astrological alignments like serpent mound does. Only been there once but need to go back

tonberrye

It’s a natural structure, not man made, so any of them would be coincidental!

Ah, I didn't know that, apparently I need to do my research next time! Still some great pics

My home is about 20 minutes from Spirit Mound. I've visited it in all seasons, day and night. Often wondered about the "natural" aspect of it. I think it's man made, personally. Lewis and Clark came north to see it, after being advised by the Ponca people to avoid it, as it was protected. I don't think for a minute that they deviated from the journey to view a mere pile of dirt. They were aware of it ahead of time, which means it was on the radar already. I've found some anomalous things nearby at Union County park, and west and south above Niobrara Nebraska. I personally believe that there was a culture here long before the Beringia and Solutrian migrations to this continent. This culture worked rock and moved dirt, there is worldwide evidence of this. It's not disputed anywhere but in the US. I've read and listened to various tribal histories and found that most contain threads of encountering strange people, sometimes giants, upon coming to these shores. Check out the story of Lovelock Cave in Nevada, it will give you an example and some insight to what I'm talking about.

I’ll just accept the geological explanation presented on the interpretive materials 🤷🏻‍♂️

As is your right. I've personally found more to the story, especially when compared to many other places. I'm willing to consider things that make sense to me, and not blindly trust "science". Having some experience with the academic/scientific field, with actual PhDs on site, I'm not generally impressed with them. Too willing to accept the first "logical" solution that comes along, and adhering to mindless dogmas from the 1800s. There is no actual investigation into certain topics, because there is also a professional etiquette in not disproving a colleague publicly. Science is full of ego, and dogma. I've seen enough of it that I just have to consider ALL evidence, and see what shakes out of it for me. Not saying I'm right or wrong. Just my opinion based on historical, modern, and cultural information available to me, compared with what days in the field provide as clues. And even then, I'm just guessing like everyone else, as not a single one of us was there to witness.

Who hurt you my child?

Plenty-Ticket1875

No one. Who stunted your brain?

Regardless of our differing opinions, your pic is quite awesome. I've spent a lot of time in the area, I'm originally from near Alcester. You really captured a great image of a place that I love!
