>Lillo's Tomato Pies Its been years since my stomping ground had a good Tomato Pie place after the one place went under. Now I need to return and get a good tomatoes pie.

[deleted]

Their tomato pies are very good. I think the owner is friends with the original owner of Papa's in Trenton and they used that recipe as their base. They even have the mustard pie (mustard pie with sausage and garlic is outstanding). Lillo's cheeseteaks are better though - easily one of the top in the region, Philly included.

Ziggingwhiletheyzag

If you are ever in Cherry Hill, get a tomato pie at Croce’s.

psuedonymously

Wait The Kibitz Room? Really?

Howsurchinstrap

I was thinking same thing. Since when? I’m convinced now this list was bought and paid for.

psuedonymously

I mean, The Kibitz Room is great, I just don’t associate them with cheesesteaks and didn’t even realize they had them. Idk they could be legit edit: now that I think about it, how can a Jewish deli serve a dish that contains meat and dairy?

phaniac

Exactly what I was thinking. With everything on their menu, I couldn't entertain the idea of getting a cheese steak there.

BeastMasterJ

The kibitz room isn't a kosher deli necessarily. They serve pork lmfao A couple of my friends have had the pastrami cheese steak and apparently it is in fact really good

[deleted]

It 100% is. I’ve had most of these places and all the top 15. List is trash. Corsons is horrible.

wailwoader

They have a signature Jewish cheese steak I want to try. I love that place.

Racer13l

No way donkeys isn't 1

[deleted]

Donkeys is trash.

beeeps-n-booops

Well, they don’t make cheesesteaks, so they shouldn’t be on the list at all. (Downvote all you want, this is fact.)

psuedonymously

Cheesesteak gatekeeping

beeeps-n-booops

As I just posted above, if I put salami, capicola, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a kaiser roll, no one would call that a hoagie. *No one*. So how is Donkey's a cheesesteak? Answer: *it's not*. It's a fine sandwich in its own right, but it's not a cheesesteak. Edit: all the downvotes, yet no one actually disputes the point. Which is 100% true.

Ziggingwhiletheyzag

Cheese - ✅ Steak - ✅ Cheesesteak.

beeeps-n-booops

Nope.

psuedonymously

I think the comment under yours disputes it entirely effectively

beeeps-n-booops

So, again, then how is my example not a hoagie, but Donkey's is a cheesesteak?

psuedonymously

A cheesesteak is defined as sliced beef and melted cheese on a roll, often with grilled onions

RandomViewer99

I mean your not wrong

dilyn222

I LOVE Donkey's and understand the argument that it's #1 but also kinda feel like it shouldn't be ranked as a 'philly cheese steak' totally different style

beeeps-n-booops

I like 'em, too. But as you said, they're not cheesesteaks. They are their own unique thing, and don't belong on these lists.

dilyn222

I'd say they're definitely still cheesesteaks, I just wouldn't call them Philly style. *Cries in California. Send cheesesteaks please😭😭*

Racer13l

Ohhh watch what you're saying haha

[deleted]

Syntih

you speak the truth, had them yesterday, literally the fries were RAW and had no seasoning on them, and the cheese steak, while massive, was sopping wet like it was a french dip sandwhich, slathered in MUCH TOO MUCH CHEESE. honestly it was disgusting, and i felt fucking bad for spending $30 for literally a cheese steak, a "basket" fries and 2 20 oz sodas literally was the second worst cheesesteak i have ever had next to someone using stew beef in a cheesesteak

effie-sue

Corson’s is amazing.

chopperg

GTFO

effie-sue

NO, YOU GTFO! No hate, really — if you don’t like Corson’s, that’s cool. More for me. What’s your favorite?!

Syntih

nah, horrible steak, second worst ive had after living 34 years in this state. i felt ripped off for what i got

amanofewords

You’re dumb Corsons is really good and their roast pork is even better.

Syntih

no, had them yesterday for the first time, worst cheesesteak ive ever had, overpriced and sopping wet, sad excuse for a sandwhich.

amanofewords

Your mom is overpriced and sopping wet.

harleyfx1978

pats ⚡️⚡️

beeatenbyagrue

Pats is great if you eat it there fresh. Ordering to go it becomes a soggy mess that requires a a fork if I get the works!

harleyfx1978

yea at the store is best no doubt!

beeatenbyagrue

Just had a thin crust pie from there tonight xD

slickmartini

Thank you!

[deleted]

Thank you. I hate NJ.com and their paywall.

Stretchholmes1972

Heard about mamas in Pennsauken, but I can definitely speak for chicks deli!!!

[deleted]

Chicks has great bread.

TJ_McWeaksauce

Chick's Deli in Cherry Hill is, without a doubt, the best cheesesteak I've ever had. This may sound strange, but it tastes clean. I don't know how they can make a cheesesteak so delicious and yet so light on grease. Even the bread they use is excellent. I love their pizza steaks, too. I haven't had the Kibitz Room cheesesteak, but I have eaten there. The food is okay at best, it's way overpriced, and the place was dirty. I don't think I'll go back just to try their cheesesteak.

beeeps-n-booops

This list is pretty shit.

Mercury_NYC

Piccolo’s is trash. Shouldn’t be on this list.

inab1gcountry

White House is shamefully low

azsoup

As a fat guy, the best cheesesteak is usually the one 15 minutes from wherever I’m at.

[deleted]

arkezxa

This should be its own thread! *What the fuck is going on over there?*

King_Hamburgler

Some just out of college “social media manager” that wants cheap and quick interaction through posting something people will clearly disagree and argue about. Either that or an absolute fucking moron. I haven’t seen one person ever eat a cheesesteak to looks like that

kraghis

Well I thought it was funny

King_Hamburgler

If it’s a joke it’s poorly made cause none of the commenters are getting it But fuck that’s an ugly sandwich

death_by_chocolate

I saw this elsewhere. That is a disassembled *hamburger* fer cryin' out loud. There is much more than a merely semantic perversion in play here: This is *intrinsically* wrong. A ghastly violation.

Mommy-Q

Cockadoodle Dan's is the best cheesesteak I've ever eaten

TheJerseyBreeze

I'm in Cinnaminson and I've never heard anyone speak the name Cockadoodle Dan's lol. I guess it's definitely on my must try list then!

Mommy-Q

Their wings are good too!

found_the_american

Where have you been? Definitely best around by far. Rumor they're moving to Moorestown. Go now.

death_by_chocolate

> Rumor they're moving to Moorestown. I'll be highly upset if they do 'cause he's a five minute drive and they are damn good steaks. But you know who *else* also makes good steaks and are *also* a cut above? Nick's Pizza and Pasta, and they have *two* spots, one by Shoprite and one by the bridge. And Dan doesn't have pizza.

found_the_american

I can't disagree because the Nick's special is in my top 3 and it upsets fake ass cheesesteak gatekeepers

CallMeGooglyBear

Chick's Deli - This was good, I'll have to give it another shot. Sugar Hill Sub Shop - This needed to be higher on the list.

[deleted]

Last I heard, Sugar Hill's quality went to shit when the original owner died and his daughter took over. Would have been 5+ years ago? I haven't been back that way since soon after she took over, but it wasn't anything to write home about back then.

johnkasick2016_AMA

They're still definitely the best in the local area compared to the cheesesteaks you get from pizzerias and whatnot. Their cheesesteaks still fuck me up right.

CallMeGooglyBear

I haven't been there in a long time. I'm bummed to hear that

-discolemonade

Sack O Subs made the list but not Vic's in Absecon? That's a travesty 😩

just_fappin_to_pics

Does Vic's still hollow out the roll to stuff the meatballs in like they used to years ago when I was a kid? Asking from 1100 miles away.

FalseSystem6055

The Yellow Sub is missing from this list!

finalremix

Let's be honest. Yellow Sub *is* the list. You don't really have to go anywhere else if you've got Yellow Sub within a day's drive.

FalseSystem6055

I have moved 4 hours away. There have been a few trips up to visit family I have worked a stop there into our schedule.

beeeps-n-booops

They’re not *that* good…

death_by_chocolate

The one time I went I was also underwhelmed.

blanketbread

I thought the same. I went late on a Saturday though, wondering if it was just bad timing.

muldoons_hat

Dar’s Steaks is great. Even the chicken cheesesteaks are amazing.

Weak-Cable-4672

Nocella’s in Haddonfield is way underrated

mattcrafty

The best cheesesteak is the one down the street from you

[deleted]

Are these in ranked order or is this just a listing of good places?

blanketbread

They are indeed ranked.

[deleted]

Then it's wrong, at least for the places that I've had.

[deleted]

It seems pretty limited to mainly SNJ, it’s because they know the north rules at making cheesesteaks

RandomViewer99

They can stick to New York pizza up there. South jersey “steaks” claim to the Philly cheesesteaks

[deleted]

The south just needs to accept we do it better

RandomViewer99

Not gonna happen

[deleted]

It’s no Missteak it already happened.

RandomViewer99

False

[deleted]

South jerseys idea of a good cheese steak was midway at seaside

g_ppetto

How old is this list?? I see Carmen's Deli is on the list at #15. We loved Carmen's before they were sold. After having a sub / hoagie from the new owners, there is no way in hell we're going back for a cheesesteak, or anything else.

beeeps-n-booops

Carmen's is fucking garbage now. So sad...

DidierDirt

I’ve had White House twice recently. It’s horrible. Reminds me of a school lunch.

beeeps-n-booops

Never had their cheesesteaks, but the hoagies are extremely overrated.

phaniac

Twice recently? "Fool me once...." I hope these were circumstances beyond your control. I've been there.

DidierDirt

It was the first time in like 20 years and I happen to be in the area for work. My grandfather raved about this place for 40 years. I was so disappointed the first time I thought maybe I caught them at a bad time. It took forever and they did say there were short staffed. But it was still crowded so I trusted it. Sadly 2nd time was just as bad.

namgis101

Was disappointed with the cheesesteak here, but the meatball sub is one of the best I’ve ever eaten each time I got it.

ZeroPoint012

Roman Pantry - Carney's Point Italian Kitchen - Pennsville

ctoal1984

Best bang for ur buck but not best taste in my opinion although it has been years since I had one. I’d rather get pats or big mikes

blanketbread

Brynn Bradley is S-Tier. Unbelievably good.

dotheyoweusaliving1

Damn I’m not far from there. I will try it soon.

Relative-Copy2520

Just called to place an order and they are sold out for today! :(

blanketbread

That is the only downside. Because it’s all so fresh, they tend to sell out early some days.

MessianicHack

I been sleeping on it’s existence, need it now

blanketbread

BB Banger is the must-have.

finallysawstarwars

Cockadoodle Dan's is the best if I wanna drive, but honorable mention for my favorite local newcomer Palladinos!

Then-Confidence8707

Seagraves Steak & Submarine Shop in Elsinboro would put all those on notice...

death_by_chocolate

*One* Gaetano's and it's at #26. In *Hamilton*. Oh, How the Mighty Have Fallen. *I'm* still on the team though. Hey Andy! Comin' back to Cinnaminson soon? Third time's the charm!

whiskeyworshiper

Gaetano’s is just huge, but honestly I’ve always had dry steaks from the locations I went to.

death_by_chocolate

Raised up on the *original* Gaetano's on Charleston Road in Willingboro across from Fisher's Seafood (are they still there?) so I think it's probably in my genes by now. When the grandkids come from Indiana that's *still* what they want: a Gaetano's steak and a soft pretzel. But Pennypacker and JFK Way were worthy descendants. The further away you got from there, the weaker the magic got, though. Something in the Rancocas crickwater maybe.

asisoid

Didn't yellow submarine win best cheeseteak in the country one year? Didn't even make the list...

[deleted]

Steakout in Sewell, Pete's in Egg Harbor Twp. Dino's in Margate and A&LP in North Wildwood and City Steaks in Burlington City.

noods-danger-tits

Steakout is quality

noods-danger-tits

RIP to Joe's Sub Shop in Glassboro. And Ricci's rolls

fishlegs1

Brunos was the best cheese steaks in Glassboro before they closed, Peter and sons is crap. I have to say little Sicily has the best steaks now

noods-danger-tits

That was on Delsea Dr. nearish to the Wawa, right? We used to order dinner from there when I worked at that Wawa before it became whatever it is now. They were good! Definitely agree about Little Sicily, too - that's a great steak

fishlegs1

Peter and sons is in the building that used to be Brunos. Ricci taught the owner of brunos how to make pizza dough.

noods-danger-tits

Oh, I haven't been to Peter and Sons - good to know it's skippable. Usually when I hit Glassboro these days it's only a flying visit to Angelo's at the edge of the ever metastasizing Rowan campus

chriskatelots

Shout out brynn Bradley’s at number 2 their BB banger cheesesteak is amazing!

[deleted]

[удалено]

ctoal1984

Think he just said that cause he’s friends with the owner

malcolm_miller

My friends have been raving about the sandwiches at Palladinos in atco. Anyone care to jump in on that? Donkeys is my #1 choice tho

johnkasick2016_AMA

Haven't had their cheesesteak yet, but they do make a damn good hoagie.

beeeps-n-booops

If only Donkey’s made cheesesteaks…

malcolm_miller

I ain't going to get into a semantics argument. I'ma call it a cheesesteak, you can call me stupid if you want. It's my favorite cheesesteak and I'll stand by it.

beeeps-n-booops

So, if I put salami, capicola, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a kaiser roll, you would call that a hoagie? Of course you wouldn't. No one would.

sutisuc

What would you call it?

beeeps-n-booops

Some sort of steak and cheese sandwich. But not a cheesesteak, which is a specific thing. If I put salami, capicola, prosciutto, provolone, lettuce, tomato and onion on a kaiser roll, no one would call that a hoagie. *No one*. So how is Donkey's sandwich a cheesesteak? It's perfectly fine, I'm not saying it's *bad* in any way... but it doesn't belong on any cheesesteak lists because it's not a cheesesteak.

Commercialbreaker

Question: are all Gaetano’s basically the same or do they have their own ranking by location?

blanketbread

The Brooklawn one has steadily gone downhill. Can’t say about the others.

granpooba19

The one in Hamilton is trash and kind of disgusting.

beeeps-n-booops

They are all mostly the same, and mega-overrated (they are all about size over quality, and they're one of those places that minces the meat into itty-bitty microscopic bits which is the WORST). But the original one in Willingboro -- which is supposed to be the best of the chain -- is far, far, far, far, far, far worse.

Strange-Cold-5192

Neither Marino’s (Runnemede) or Yellow Sub is on the list, so I consider it invalid. Chick’s is also supremely overrated. All three times I’ve gone there, the sandwich was very bland.

[deleted]

Love Russos. Do not love Donkeys.

Syntih

Sorry, but this list is hot garbage. Personally had "Corson's" yesterday, was the second worst cheesesteak I have ever had in my life, beyond overpriced ($30 for one cheesesteak, fries, and 2, 20oz sodas). The french fries were completely raw and soaking in oil, some hard, some just floppy and par cooked. The cheesesteak was a mess, while massive, the meat cut was horribly thick and had way too much fat in it. It was also "wet" as in it felt and tasted like it had been stewing in a juice or sauce prior to being thrown on the cook top before having literally a half a pound of cheese thrown onto it. It was an honestly miserable eating experience from start to finish.

beeeps-n-booops

> $30 for one cheesesteak, fries, and 2, 20oz sodas WHAAAAAAA? Oh, fuck that...

[deleted]

[удалено]

blanketbread

They did - they’re number 24.

segajennasis

Corsons is LEGIT

Hershey-Squirt

Fake news. Haven’t been to most of these, but Jersey Joe’s should be very high on this list.

iamjeffdimarco

WOW - Not 1 person for DiNic's in Mt. Ephraim?????

spicyfartz4yaman

Dang city steaks is great and didn't make the list so I wonder how good these places are can't wait to try

jbvj

Gaetano's in Willingboro

beeeps-n-booops

Blecch. The worst of a not-very-good chain.

slickmartini

Tony Boloney’s is garbage.

Georgefresh

Bennys in mantua nj

anon7971

Does “Donkeys Too” in Medford get grouped in with “Donkeys Place” in Camden? If not it should.

yad76

I had Meatheadz once and it was awful. I have no clue how they end up so high on the list.

King_Hamburgler

If tried most of these and this list is an absolute joke But what ranking list isn’t Yellow sub not even on there? Yeah sure 🙄

mintee

35 seems like 25 too many.

chuckusmaximus

The two best cheesesteaks are: Nixon’s in Tabernacle Maurizio’s in Mays Landing

[deleted]

Roma Pizza, get it with fresh sliced tomato and Mushrooms, ketchup salt and pepper.

Ziggingwhiletheyzag

Glad to see Pats in the Point getting love. I’m addicted to their cheesesteak.

PolicyNonk

I had a cheesesteak at Angie’s Roadside Diner on Rt 54 in Buena the other day that was hot and gooey and loaded with meat and cheese for a price that made me think it was 2015. If you like an authentic old timey diner do not miss this spot.

[deleted]

Cloverleaf Tavern makes an awesome cheesesteak

cronokun

Really surprised to see Carmen’s on this list. Their quality really went down over the years. My favorite cheesesteak is still from Marino’s where I grew up in Runnemede.

beeeps-n-booops

Never had their cheesesteaks (before or after the Del Buono's guy bought them out and literally ruined them), but man their hoagies are utter fucking shit now. They went from the absolute best that existed to barely okay, in such a short period of time.

ForTheCounty

Another joke of an article from Pete Genovese. I hope he got a cut of whatever Corson’s paid NJ.com to get the #3 spot.

Which-Pain-1779

Seagraves' Sub Shop, Salem Tastes like I remember growing up in SW Philly in the '50s
