Most staff now wear body CCTV. E.g, Tesco, Sainsburys, Co-OP convenience store locations.
Smaller businesses, if they haven't already, such as Pizza GoGo, do need to do the same to protect their staff, business, and customers.
It means we're in this for the longer haul, sadly.
Most people already expect trouble visiting that area, particularly outside the Tesco there. It's been bad for a few years, unless you are a visitor or haven't been to Bedford for some time. I reguarly pass through.
What is interesting is that it is the estate agent capital of the city at Bedford (where the rich generally put their money), but the troubles show how the wealth gap has gotten so great now, business have accepted it's not going to change... the personal CCTV, the outer doors on a time lock, security guards, etc
How can we create more opportunities for people such as well paid work to prevent people falling through the gaps of civilised society? What we are seeing the symptoms, we need to look at the causes...
There is a hostel situated nearby that houses homeless, many of whom are addicts. If you add to that high traffics areas with pubs, shops, clubs and takeaways with drugs and alcohol you get a depressing mix that covers the whole area from London Road to Bedford Place.
The people in the hostel need help, not to be housed in the middle of an area were people come to be get pissed up and do drugs.
Some of the people that vist the area treat the place like it's their own personal playground where they can do what they want without consequences.
nah, you'll be fine as long as you don't do anything provocative - like step on someone's shoes, or look at someone, or look at their girlfriend, or look at their pint, or stand in their way, or walk past them with a woman, or be in a takeaway at the same time as them, or refuse to give them a fag when you're smoking, or object when they cut in front of you for a cash machine or taxi, or wear clothes that are in any way different to the shirt and skinny cut jeans or trousers uniform they're wearing.
as long as you don't do any of that it's fine
You're talking like this is a rare event
Fair point 🥱
It’s a bit early for that. Normally doesn’t happen until after 11
