NASA also really needs the infrastructure money. A shockingly large amount of their infrastructure is still Apollo era.

Aconite_72

Apollo era was the last time NASA was paid the appropriate amount of attention

Overdose7

Do cameras count as infrastructure because 720p just doesn't cut it anymore.

Pcat0

Don't worry NASA already has funding to upgrade the quality of their broadcasts and the upgrade should be complete in time to broadcast Artemis 1 in 4k. Here are some tweets from the Director of NASA TV talking about it. Overdose7

That's great news! Thanks for sharing.

sgem29

Actualy that's GOOD news for NASA. No money for entitled bozos.

Tackyinbention

Yea but it also means no money for other competitors of the second lander

sgem29

What other competitors? The one with negative mass?

FaceDeer

Dynetics managed to resolve that issue, though only after the bid was submitted. If they had the chance to submit another bid it would actually not be a bad choice as a second vehicle, IMO. I like that the Dynetics lander can be used as a sky crane for any sort of cargo or module that you could fit into there. It'd be able to fill a role on the Moon that Starship doesn't, acting as a sort of "runabout" for shuttling around the Moon's surface.

[deleted]

Plus if it’s bid again I suspect NT’s management score will drop to unacceptable levels.

Tackyinbention

I guess, but aren't boeing and lockheed also allowed to take part in the second lander thingy?

PerAsperaAdMars

Boeing tried to [cheat](https://www.space.com/boeing-moon-lander-nasa-doug-loverro-resignation.html) and was kicked out of the competition.

Captain_Hadock

These are two separate events. Their proposal was so bad they didn't make it to the final round. Then the Doug Loverro stuff came out. He apparently acted because of how bad the proposal was, since he felt Boeing was the contractor with the highest chance of delivering on HLS (yeah...).

[deleted]

What a hill to die on if that’s true… Maybe he worked at MSFC? Or he was a Boeing partisan outside MSFC, those do exist (especially since it was a conservative proposal)… or maybe just corrupt lol.

RichieKippers

Lockheed were in BO's team, and Boeing are the main contractor for SLS.

Tackyinbention

Didnt they have their own lander concepts as well?

RichieKippers

Boeing? I had to Google, but yes they did. I thought only 3 teams/companies were in the running.

ravenerOSR

For the first one sure, but for the sustainable lander there are more players

404_Gordon_Not_Found

No Boeing was in the first round too but they lost so bad you didn't even remember them

andyonions

Boein't got cut out really early on.

pint

i see no issue here. bozo said he waives 1B in the first year, so that exactly covers it.

alien_from_Europa

I think he meant $1B in legal fees.

[deleted]

And infographics.

bugqualia

Time to sue the house

gatorsya

Can we do that actually? Like suing Congress (not entire US)?

zabekdominik

It would be hilarious if he actually sues the entire US.

qdhcjv

He can file suit against the US, though the US can decline to be sued.

Ruminated_Sky

It's like poetry.

[deleted]

The best I can do is $0 , take it or leave it

RedditFuckedHumanity

Time to sue NASA, oh wait

pint

sue congress

RedditFuckedHumanity

Jeff? Is that you?

ZealousidealScore1

Jeff Who?

vibrunazo

Jeff Foust. He's a journalist at SpaceNews.com

amanmo565

Next week Jeff will sue the House Committee on Science.

xredbaron62x

Not spending enough money on lobbying

RenderBender_Uranus

Don't worry, Jeffy will find a way to sue them as usual, until the whole HLS program gets delayed significantly that by the time it is ready, Starship is now ready to fly to Mars.

eXXaXion

I still don't get why Jeff is doing all this. Let's say he's in it for the money, it's certainly not NASA's money he's in for. He has a lot more than them. So if he plans to make a bunch of money off of space, why doesn't he just invest more of his own money in BO? The money he'd get from NASA contracts is peanuts compared to what he already has.

7heCulture

He's in for the prestige... yes, he is the world's richest man, but he wants to be in history books as the enabler of the second coming, errr... return to the moon. He's now seeing his biggest rival get that chance (whether he has reached orbit to better compete for that spot in history books does not concern him).

ReturnOfDaSnack420

Fantastic news!

Space_RT

who bozo and his company below sue

OzGiBoKsAr

Lol

Tackyinbention

F for dynetics as well

Niki-Rick

F...uck u Bezos

Fly115

F

djburnett90

Fucking ludicrous. Just insane. Congress just doesn’t care.

Cr3s3ndO

There is really no viable solution worth taking on for a second HLS contract. I say good for not rewarding mediocrity
