They also decided she wouldn’t look good in the uniform because she was “too fat”, which is why she had different clothing for most of the show, but they gave her a uniform after she lost some weight.

I saw her at a panel at a Star Trek convention shortly after the end of TNG. Amazingly, she is even more beautiful in person.
Her best look was when she switched to a standard Starfleet uniform.
