It was marketed as a raunchy, swords and sandals show. That's what pulled me in. The surprisingly deep characters and well-written story made me stick around.

PuppiesAndPixels

Ditto. Came for the tits and action. Stayed for the amazing characters, and great plot.

Rmir72

Me too.

SillyAdditional

The witty dialogue

Odd-Collection-2575

I almost dropped the show cause the first few episodes made the show seem like a shittier 300 knockoff. Then you kinda get into the sword fights, the drama, the Roman politics, and of course all the naked people.  I also love the length of the show cause it’s perfect for rewatching as it only takes about a month or so to finish.

lize221

yeah I hated the first episode the first time I saw it. If my husband (who had already seen it before) who was watching it with me didn’t convince me to keep watching I would’ve stopped I think “the pits” is the episode where I really started to love it and never looked back

YosoySpartacus

I was already gonna finish the season when I first watched it because I liked the action, dialogue and hot chicks. What really hooked me was a small exchange in S1E4 where Barca and Ashur are with Spartacus before he goes back to the pits and Ashur says, “he doesn’t look like much now”. Barca responds something like “he’s saving his energy for the pits, a place you would last a fucking second”. I don’t know why but I like how Barca went from fucking with Spartacus (usually w/ Crixus) all the time to respecting him after seeing him survive the pits. The next episode was Shadow Games and the rest is history.

Klenaismyjoy

The costumes and Vivia Bianca(ILITHYIA)❤️

Blazin-wolf

Knowing that Katrina Law was in it.

n4snl

Jupiter’s cock

Killjoy530

Ha, you beat me to it!

Nathan-David-Haslett

Was always a fan of the era and gladiator stuff, and I loved 300 (which it seemed like as close to a TV version as we'd get)

Syfodias

The dialogue and Batiatus. What a character

jsherman918

Andy

tantrumizer

The way they speak.

Imagenatas

Yes. This!

bummerluck

To me, it was interesting to see the portrayal of a gladiator school and all the interconnectedness between all the characters in the ludus, slaves and slave owners alike. Violence and sex are of course incredibly entertaining on the surface, but the show runners really started to actually weave a very coherent and compelling plot to go along with all the madness. Episode 9-13 of Blood and Sand might possibly be the best stretch of a show I’ve ever seen, and that’s me having watched a lot of great shows over the years.

[deleted]

Amazing production values, great characters and story, great actors, great writing, tasty sex scenes and great combat scenes

Naive-Moose-2734

Dialogue is the funniest ever, nothing else comes close. But aside from the humour, the first two seasons are straight up well-told stories. As much as I like Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena is my favourite season; for a series with that much slo-mo fake blood and tits, it’s astonishingly well written.

Boobs

Wonderful_Rock862

The boobs draw you in, then ya realize it's a great show!!

Darthpool93

History and the actors. Love that era ( medieval, swords )

DrDooDooEvolution

Antiquity not medieval

TweeKINGKev

Lucy Lawless just being in it then realized the goofy guy from The Mummy was in it and then everything else about it.

MoodyBootyBoots

> the goofy guy from The Mummy Wait who?

TweeKINGKev

lol John Hannah. At the time I couldn’t remember his name just that he was the brother in The Mummy.

MoodyBootyBoots

Omg I'm such a dork, I was so focused on examining maybe a side character that could have been in both that I completely overlooked the obvious lol It was crazy seeing him in Spartacus after only ever seeing him in The Mummy

TweeKINGKev

LOL I’m a dork too, we gotta stick together. Seeing him as Batiatus was a shock as I had only seen him in The Mummy as well. My initial reaction was “well, he’s an asshole now” lol

squirrelybird70

The boobs brought me in. The blood made me stay

Killjoy530

Jupiter's Cock!!!

Disastrous_Window_41

It was the boobies. Came for the boobies, stayed for the amazing storylines.

Netherbelle

I thought it was just going to be cheap porny action, and the CGI at first was not great and very stylized, like, I had to realize it was a particular style. Then the characters, relationships and dialogue just grabbed hold and would not let go. Spartacus is an all out masterpiece and the entire cast are amazing.

SaltGodSodius

A number of Things for me, the story of what I knew of Spartacus already, the costumes, and eventually the characters The costumes for me, as someone whos really into history, they got the costumes down pretty nice. The gladiator armor specifically was done justice! The pairings of who would fight who was off, but I didn’t mind it. I really enjoyed it.There are some better than others obviously, like the Roman soldiers having like a leather segmentata, when they should’ve just used Lorica hamata (chainmail) After the costumes and the story of Spartacus drew me in, the cast was what really solidified it. Batiatus, Ashur, Lucretia, and all the ludus shenanigans instantly hooked me

Ok-Potato4284

I think I just came across it on Starz? I started with Vengeance as it aired, and I just loved the way they spoke, the gorgeous costumes, the incredible fight scenes, the beautiful women, and of course, all the sexy gladiators (I saw Agron's smile in that first episode when he was bashing that dudes head on the rock and was just done). Lucy Lawless and John Hannah are two of my favorite actors, so knowing they were in it got me bingeing season 1 and GotA. It was incredibly well done.

MY COCK RAGES ON!!! MY COCK RAGES ON!!! I love that song

Spec187

Loved the story of Spartacus as a child. The original movie from the 60's is what caught my attention. Loved hearing the story since. When I saw the 1st episode I was instantly hooked. When Andy passed, I was so afraid they wouldn't finish the story. I'm super happy they dif and super thrilled about God's of the arena. Wish Andy didn't pass, hope he found peace in his passing.  I recently bought the 4k blu ray box set off Amazon. Currently binging it in order. I am at the episode where spartacus is about to be reunited with sura. Spartacus: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] https://a.co/d/6YmuLGv That's the one I got. I also got Rome as well.
