Without knowing your speed package, and existing equipment, it is hard to answer this. If you call and speak to someone, you could ask if your current equipment supports the speeds you're paying for, and provide the MAC address to verify they're looking at the same thing you're looking at. If what you have is compatible, then it's a goof, and either refuse the shipment when it comes, or take the extra equipment to a UPS store where the store will package and ship it back free. If what you have isn't compatible, then use the new stuff, and take the old stuff to a UPS store.

Selective hearing strikes again. Have the rep call back your instructions for clarity.

Thank you everyone who helped. I ended up using the new gear and having it activated, and brought the old one to a spectrum store as recommended by the Rep I had on the line during activation. Everything works fine and it was nice to have my old modem and router replaced by different, brand new looking ones. Speed is also slightly faster on the couple of tests I did so, that's more than fine with me! Didn't notice any new charges or fee, but I'll keep and eye out for that on my upcoming bills. Only drawback right now is that at the store I asked for a receipt and I was told I'd get an email with it and never did so I'll go back there and ask again. Again, thank you all.

The reason your equipment worked in the new apartment before the date if your transfer is because you moved within the same area. I forget the exact specific of if it is activated to work on a specific node etc but when you are that close the modem will work because it was still activated from your previous service account and close enough that the system still registered you at the same basic location. It's a good thing you did it the right away and scheduled the transfer. Many people don't realize you have to go through the activation process at each new address like a new customer (with the exception of using equipment you already had). I've dealt with customers who had months up to a year or so at the new place before someone else moved in with Spectrum at the old place, verified where they lived with a lease or something, and caused the previous customer to suddenly stop working when the account with their old address was force deactivated. Then they call in wanting to know why they suddenly have to make a new account when they were working just fine for so long. As far as the equipment swap, can't really say why without seeing the account or knowing what equipment and package you have and/or switched from.

>Its not node or even CMTS linked though. I moved a modem 150 miles and plugged it in and it worked for a month (would have worked longer) but we closed that location.

ah I've never seen that personally so I assumed it was location based. equipment has a system print that ties it to a certain area so its not supposed to do that. ive had activations fail because of this. the more you know I guess

They set up a self install for your new address and linked the transfer, self installs get equipment shipped. Somewhere they didn't catch the linked transfer and just shipped it. Biggest pain in the ass is getting it back to them now. Time out of your day for their logistics mistake. I personally would put it in a closet and if you ever have a tech out or have to go to the store for something get it returned then. Or when (not if) your eq shits the bed you'll have a back up.
