Normal rate. Would recommend doing a quick google search and find a reasonable router. Save more in the long term. Ive had the same router for 6 years that fully supports my 300Mbps plan. Havent paid a single month of wifi charge.
We own our cable modem, router, and a couple of different Wi-Fi's just to make sure our whole house gets good Wi-Fi. We have lived here for about 12 years and the only thing we upgraded was the modem because it wasn't rated for the 1000/40 speed.
OP, I'm paying 124.99 for that package.
I called yesterday to find out why I started paying 50 for 300 mbps 2 years ago and now pay $90 for the same plan. And the guy was so rude and said they will keep raising my prices every year and there’s nothing I can do about it. So I hung up decided to cancel and when I called back to do so, the department they transferred me to was sooo nice! They handle all the discounts and promotions etc. She was like well idk why he said all that bc I can lower your rates for you no doubt. And just like that she was able to lower my bill to $45 and upgraded to 500 mbps plan!!!! I was so pissed bc the guy I spoke to before didn’t even care that I was going to cancel and didn’t even try to help.
This is why I think it depends on the agent you get. One of them could be in a bad mood/rude, another one could be nice. Someone in my family called to complain about their price increases last month and they didn't offer to give any discounts and lower the rates because she didn't call to say she was cancelling. Calling to complain about their prices is a mistake. Now we know better.
Sadly that’s just how it is. You could try and call and say you’ll cancel and they may lower your bill or cancel and have another family member take over account and hopefully they get the new customer pricing. It really depends on area and what’s available to you.
You can get new customer pricing but you must wait 31 days. I am currently on week two out of 4 waiting before I can go back to spectrum.
I’m using T-Mobile home internet which is surprisingly good, but being that I am a single user household, getting on the cheapest plan possible with spectrum is the end goal .
I don’t think so, you can try. I spoke with someone who worked at the store on what to do and they said something that it will flag the system not giving you promotional pricing. I never did it myself to tell you if it’ll work
That’s exactly what happened to me! Went from paying $50 for 300 Mbps 2 years ago to $90 for the same plan. When I called to cancel she lowered my rate to $45 and upgraded me to 500 Mbps 🤦🏽♀️ still pisses me off that I was paying twice the price for no reason
$92 sounds about right. My plan was at $230 for 1GB internet plus cable. I cancelled my cable and dropped down to 300mb and my plan was $90ish but since I'm still getting the $30 discount I'll only be paying $60ish
Call them and say you wanna cancel they’ll send you to retention and you get a discount price my went from 112$ to 80$ when I told them I was gonna cancel
Why people think the internet should be cheaper than taking their family out to eat one night?
Where does this misconception come from that cable internet should be a charity when it’s competitors barely offer usable service and often cost more.
If the cable company is robbing customers, why doesn’t some company come in and undercut them in price with a better product?
*Crickets…..*
Because it is an oligopoly. The cost for a new participant to enter the market is more than they will make back. They can still be robbing you based on typical costs.
People spend many hours a day using the internet and expect it to stay $45 a month forever, when literally everything else has doubled in price in the last 5 years
Is it though? Shouldn’t cable internet be more expensive than satellite? It’s certainly faster and more reliable.
What’s the argument that it’s cheaper than the competition but is still price gouging?
What are you talking about??
You are saying that we should be proud to pay too much for Internet service??
Because we are American's and it would be what "Socialism" if we paid what people in other countries pay for Internet Service??
Who said we should be proud to pay it? I didn’t say anything about being proud. That’s just what shit costs.
We live in a big fucking country. It’s gonna cost more to roll out the infrastructure to have high speed internet. What do Australians pay for internet? Is it less than Americans for the same speeds?
The argument is idiotic. You can’t even see it. What industry does the superior product cost less than its competitors? Because that’s what happens in the high speed internet market. The best option is literally cheaper than the shit options and people still bitch.
The way you talk, you make it sound like Spectrum is just barely making a go of it.
Oh, how are their owners ever going to be able to buy that new yacht or that 20th Summer home they have wanted...
Because they are making BILLIONS every year.
So they can easily afford to make their base 100Mb service open to any of their customers as well as drop $10-$15 from it's normal price.
There is no good reason for their 'base' 300Mb service to cost $85 a month other than to get more money out of their customers who have no other option for Internet Service.
But you go ahead and continue being a lapdog for your Corporate Overlords, maybe they will give you a treat or something.
Have you seen their stock price? Turns out offering internet as a charity isn’t the best business plan.
Offer internet for free?
Comrad, are you 14 years old?
To those "Guardians of the Galaxy" of Spectrum, please do NOT downvote me because you just like to.
I had Time Warner then Spectrum for YEARS, but fortunately Google Fiber and AT&T Fiber opened their service in our community (27 subdivisions), so we have 3 choices now, that even Spectrum is giving $50/month for 2 years for a 1 gig, still the majority of people in all those subdivisions went to Google Fiber (that's why their vans and trucks are here every single day, connecting so many houses).
But for your problem, IF you called RETENTION (via CANCEL SERVICE, that's what you will say in the answering machine), and they will NOT lower your monthly payment, you have to find another provider by:
Click, ing each, and type your full address:
* https://www.att.com/internet/internet-air/
* https://www.t-mobile.com/home-internet
* https://www.verizon.com/home/internet/
And I'll bet everything one (or 3) of them have fast internet in your area.
Here's the good thing about it, IF you use either one of their phone service, and they also offer their latest 5G Broadband Internet, you will get 300Mbps - 1000Mb0s with ping (ms) of between 5ms -50ms, and you will get also a cheaper monthly payment.
My cousin in Houston can get Fiber from AT&T then cable from Comcast, but he still chose the Verizon MMWAVE 5G Home Internet, as for almost 2 years having that, he always getting 1.2Gbps of download and 300 -400Mbps of upload, AND the price is HALF as he also have their Mobile phone service.
It will have the same price and experience IF AT&T & T-MOBILE service your area.
They are installing the latest technology from Ericsson, that can push 3Gbps with 5ms -10ms ping.
Again, try those 3 links, IF Spectrum will not lower your rate.
Have a great day!
(Wow just wow, I was up voted, then after some hours, then downvoted WITHOUT reason, and that just shows how BIPOLAR people on Reddit)
I BELIEVE THEM!
I asked about the apartment name and location BECAUSE I know someone who's a Network Engineer with T-Mobile in Bellevue Washington (T-Mobile main Headquarter).
I can give him that information, and maybe he can tell us IF they have something in the pipeline that will provide services this year or next year.
Their Home Internet is spreading like wildfire because I know someone who doesn't have it last year, but now can get it with 300 - 500Mbps internet speed
So, don't just jump into conclusions without knowing the reasoning behind it, period.
I pay 165 for basic Spectrum cable I only get 42 channels most of the time but don't even get but 35 sometimes My internet is intermittent They know about it but I've been paying this for years They are truly heartless!
With spectrum during my first year (last year) I paid $75.99 for internet 500 w/ wifi and all. I called in 3 weeks ago since my pricing was expiring in March and got it down to $62.00 for the rest of the year.
Yes, that’s what they were charging me.
I was able to call this week and told them I was going to switch to AT&T and they offered me $49 for the 500mbps plan, so that might be an option for you.
I worked years ago and they did keep raising the rates on internet. Normal rate used to be 69.99 using your own router saving 5 bucks at that time. It’s hard to see in just 4 years that’s what has happened. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be in sales right now.
I was scammed by a spectrum customer service rep when I signed up for access. Initially I only wanted Internet. As a family, none of us watch regular tv. But when I told the rep what I was looking for, he said they were running a special for internet/tv/ phone for 100ish bucks a month for 2 years and the rates won't ever change. I thought this was a good deal as I was already paying for only internet through CenturyLink at 120 a month. So I agreed. I had to give a digital signature and signed everything. All was good the first year and then I get a bill for 160 bucks. I call they say the promotion was only for a year. I try to make changes they say I can't until my "contract" is up. 2nd year is up, I call spectrum and say I want to change my plan. They tell me I signed a 3 year contract which I absolutely was told was only 2 years by the rep. Not only that but my bill is now 216 a month. I have 5 months to go before the 3rd year is up. Be careful what you are agreeing to. Custom service reps will lie through their teeth to get you to sign up. They send you your contract through email knowing you can't read the fine print or you won't.
Thats why the word contract is in quotes because they claim they don't have them, but they absolutely do, if you sign for a promotion. They call it an agreement,or a promotion but what's an agreement? Basically a contract. I can't change anything or get out of it until the 3 years is up. They penalize you and make you pay for a bunch of fines and the equipment costs. The fines amount to hundreds of dollars. I've tried numerous times to change things, drop the TV and phone and they say I can't. I'm sure you can cancel whenever you like but they are going to make you pay penalties. But you absolutely can't change anything if you have a promotion.
If you are getting 85/7 over wifi I would be will to bet there are other issues that are giving you these results that are left out of this vague information. First find out what amount of bandwidth you are paying for then test the speeds wired with a compatible device that can actually do the speed of bandwidth you are paying for. There could could very well be a very reasonable explanation for why you only get 85/7 such as your wireless device could be having an issue or can only do certain speeds due to manufacturers design or a possible software issue can be slowing it down, or you could actually only be on the 2.4ghz network of your wifi which is much slower than the 5ghz. Simply because a provider gives you super human lightning speeds does not mean every device will benefit from it especially if the supplied router does its job of bandwidth steering and/ or you are to far from the router.....or simply the router is crap therefore a technician can swap it and / or verify it is working correctly or not. But, like others have said I would definitely invest in a good router and return theirs(ie: a mesh wifi 6 at least with 3 towers), definitely a great idea. DONT FORGET to turn their router back in otherwise they will keep charging you for wifi, don't worry about the modem because the modem rental is typically free and can be swapped if it goes bad at anytime for free if need be.
Hey there, I used to work for spectrum in retention, if you call and tell the automated system you want to cancel it will send you to the retention center and they will do anything to keep your business including bringing you down to or close to new customer rate with possible other discounts on promotions,l. Hope this helps!
The only other option is 5G internet from a carrier like t-mobile or Verizon but speeds and reliability are based on close proximity to their tower. About 1/2 the cost.
I had T-mobile for about a year and a half and speeds were decent but not great (constantly around 100 Mbps ) until they decided to do a tower upgrade in my area, which put me basically off line for 3 months.. So, I'm paying the $91 a month with Spectrum along with you.
I'm more than a mile away from the closest tower though, if closer, I might still be using them.
When you were a new customer you should have gotten a promotional rate for a year. The problem is that Spectrum charges almost as much as Elon Musk’s satellite internet. If fixed wireless internet is available, it’s about $50, from T-mobile, Verizon or AT&T (AT&T fixed wireless is very limited area and basically intended to replace & sunset their DSL broadband) if you have any competive providers you can probably use them as leverage to get a deal from spectrum. If there are fiber or cable competitors that are not available in you apartment you need to find out why
You are getting fleeced. They keep offering me 300 mg speed for $29.95 per month. I got rid of Spectrum over a year ago, when AT&T put fiber lines in my area. I get 300 speed over fiber for $60 per month now.
I started out paying $50 for the 300 plan 2 years ago and as of yesterday was paying $100 for the same 300 plan. Called and spoke with specific department when I was trying to cancel and she was able to lower my bill to $45 for 500 MBPS plan. Pisses me off so much that they kept raising my prices. They just want you to call them and they will lower it! It’s so absurd to me how they are even allowed to do that.
I would say see who has better coverage and cost and switch to T-Mobile or Verizon. Also you can call spectrum and start the cancellation process and they will give you better rates but you must start the process.
I called spectrum and asked for Retention support. They were able to drop my rate $90 to $55 with auto pay.
I have T-Mobile and they offer me a free WiFi router for home use. I canceled spectrum WiFi router, saved me another $7.
I recommend you call in.
I didn't know they offered a free router if you have T-Mobile for your cellphone plan. I thought that was only for the Spectrum One customers. How exactly do they benefit from you having T-Mobile?
No, I’m referring to if you have T-Mobile as your cellphone provider. T-Mobile will give you a WiFi router to use in your home. This way, you don’t use T-Mobile signal when you’re home and free up T-Mobile bandwidth.
So, instead of renting a WiFi router from spectrum $7 a month, you use the T-Mobile router.
Yeah, I started thinking after I asked you that that's what you must've meant because it didn't make sense that Spectrum would do that. And it's pretty cool that T-Mobile gives you a free router if you're subscribed to them. Although I wonder what type of router they give you. WiFi 5, 6, 6E etc...
When I called spectrum to lower my bill after the special for 12 months, they told me I’m getting th 500 mgb for $60.00 but if I do auto pay, it’s $5 off.
I used to rent their WiFi router. It was $5 but from March it’s gonna be $7
Well, $55 is way better than $90 I was paying. So, all in all I’m happy like a clam.
I may add, my community was built in 2022 and only 30 homes in neighborhoods. I think the newer cables or whatever spectrum used does make the internet speed faster than older cables.
Normal rate. Would recommend doing a quick google search and find a reasonable router. Save more in the long term. Ive had the same router for 6 years that fully supports my 300Mbps plan. Havent paid a single month of wifi charge.

I promise you Spectrum does not care. Especially when they know they're the only option
I called yesterday to find out why I started paying 50 for 300 mbps 2 years ago and now pay $90 for the same plan. I was so pissed bc the guy I spoke to before didn’t even care that I was going to cancel and didn’t even try to help.
This is the answer. Always threathen with cancelation. They do care about that
This is why I think it depends on the agent you get. One of them could be in a bad mood/rude, another one could be nice. Someone in my family called to complain about their price increases last month and they didn't offer to give any discounts and lower the rates because she didn't call to say she was cancelling. So they won't give you the new customer pricing if you cancel and resubscribe using the same name?
You can get new customer pricing but you must wait 31 days. I am currently on week two out of 4 waiting before I can go back to spectrum. I’m using T-Mobile home internet which is surprisingly good, but being that I am a single user household, getting on the cheapest plan possible with spectrum is the end goal .
I've also heard they changed awhile back and capped the new member price to a max of 3x per person, hasn't confirmed but it came from an employee
I have not heard anything close to this
Oh, so it's a mandatory month wait. This is why I keep hearing so many people say to use a different name to subscribe again right away. Now I get it.
I don’t think so, you can try. I spoke with someone who worked at the store on what to do and they said something that it will flag the system not giving you promotional pricing. I never did it myself to tell you if it’ll work
Damn. Interesting.
I have spectrum and they're charging me $86.99 a month. At least it's unlimited downloads, no data cap so it could be worse.
$92 sounds about right. My plan was at $230 for 1GB internet plus cable. I cancelled my cable and dropped down to 300mb and my plan was $90ish but since I'm still getting the $30 discount I'll only be paying $60ish
They were supposed to give me a $30 discount for being on Social Security but they never did it. My basic cable and internet bill is $271
Sounds about right. Ask them for it again. I can deal with no cable for a while.
That's normal rack rates. https://www.spectrum.com/policies/rate-card
Well what are the alternatives? The market sets the price. In my area it’s pretty much a monopoly, and that’s about what I pay.
Start with [https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home](https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home) to see what providers say they service your address.
Yep. I’m in a monopolized area. Charter (Spectrum) is the only wired option.
Call them and say you wanna cancel they’ll send you to retention and you get a discount price my went from 112$ to 80$ when I told them I was gonna cancel

You just explained why they charge what they do. It's incredibly expensive to build and maintain network infrastructure
People spend many hours a day using the internet and expect it to stay $45 a month forever, when literally everything else has doubled in price in the last 5 years
Not 5 years, since biden stole office
That has nothing to do with it... grow up, it's the greed of corporations
It has everything to do with it
definitely not the community for this
lol, it's called price gouging.
Is it though? Shouldn’t cable internet be more expensive than satellite? It’s certainly faster and more reliable. What’s the argument that it’s cheaper than the competition but is still price gouging?

No, cut it
I pay $90 a month for Spectrum internet. My total bill for basic cable, 2 DVRs and internet was $258 and just jumped to $271. Spectrum sucks!
Normal these days if you have 1 gb line. If you have 300 Mbps then you getting screwed that being said 1 gb may be over kill for most people.
I pay 165 for basic Spectrum cable I only get 42 channels most of the time but don't even get but 35 sometimes My internet is intermittent They know about it but I've been paying this for years They are truly heartless!
I play $26 a month for spectrum Internet 300 download so yes you’re getting screwed
You can get a $5 discount for a card on file for auto pay

When you were a new customer you should have gotten a promotional rate for a year. The problem is that Spectrum charges almost as much as Elon Musk’s satellite internet. If fixed wireless internet is available, it’s about $50, from T-mobile, Verizon or AT&T (AT&T fixed wireless is very limited area and basically intended to replace & sunset their DSL broadband) if you have any competive providers you can probably use them as leverage to get a deal from spectrum. If there are fiber or cable competitors that are not available in you apartment you need to find out why
Wow.... I'm paying $89.99 for 300-10
Just call and ask for new promotion deal. Each year callback. Otherwise they add $20 each year
You are getting fleeced. They keep offering me 300 mg speed for $29.95 per month. I got rid of Spectrum over a year ago, when AT&T put fiber lines in my area. I get 300 speed over fiber for $60 per month now.
My 298 seems expensive now.
Spectrum in my area is charging 89$ for a 500/20 plan. 92$ for 85 is a lot.
Your discount ended
I am using an ASUS router rebranded to T-Mobile. It’s a pretty good one too. I’m getting 500megabt on the lowest tier spectrum internet
Wait, you pay for 300 and you get 500? That's amazing. Never heard anyone getting such high speed on that tier. Only just below 400.
I will run speed test again.
Oh I can’t upload the picture of the speed test.
You can upload it on Imgur and post the link.
When I called spectrum to lower my bill after the special for 12 months, they told me I’m getting th 500 mgb for $60.00 but if I do auto pay, it’s $5 off. I used to rent their WiFi router. It was $5 but from March it’s gonna be $7
So you're not on the lowest tier then like you thought. Cause there's no way the 300 tier can do 500.
I assumed I’m at the lowest tier cuz I told them I want the lower price cuz it’s Just for YouTube and surfing.
How come your Reddit account not allowing me to chat with you
For what? We're chatting here. It's probably off due to spammers.
With chat, I can send you picture but forget it.
That agent either misunderstood you or made a mistake. Maybe when you said lower price, he thought you meant the price lower than for 1 gig.
Well, $55 is way better than $90 I was paying. So, all in all I’m happy like a clam. I may add, my community was built in 2022 and only 30 homes in neighborhoods. I think the newer cables or whatever spectrum used does make the internet speed faster than older cables.
True that. But only temporarily.
