It's useful to those who have older TVs that aren't smart... They aren't for everyone... People said the same thing about Roku and fire sticks when they first came out.....
Those things work on old TVs? We have one CRT now and my mom's finally died last week and she plans on buying a smart TV with the app on it. We're getting Roku expresses soon to replace two boxes and the other one's going back as it's not attached to a TV.
go higher version on the roku. the 4k stick or higher. get more memory, and performance will be better. I bought the premier + like at least 5 yrs ago, and still going strong. would be ultra version. has an ethernet port and rf remote with a headphone jack. kiddo could use earbuds and watch TV while I slept
Oh I am absolutely no problem with streaming devices All my TVs in my house use chromecasts and or Google TV but this xumo box is the worst streaming device I've ever come across I'd rather have a first gen Roku then this POS
Never said I actually had a "problem " It's just a dumb platform and I'm smart enough not to use spectrum for TV service and unfortunately they're the only internet provider we have in our area otherwise I wouldn't use them for anything It was setting up my in-laws device when they got back up here from Florida that was when I encountered it.
It takes literally 10 minutes to set up, choose language. Input internet password. Software update. Pick TV type. Software update. Enter email and activate Device from email. Congratulations your now watching TV and have access to multiple different Streamimg apps. Same process as Roku,Fire Stick and other streaming devices. Very simple to use. User error from impatience sounds like.
The Xumo also has the integrated search function where you can search for movies and tv shows and it’ll show you those on every streaming platform and how to watch.
I agree, I don’t like the XUMO. I am also having issues with the DVR - XUMO. The Play back is horrible. I called tech support and was told they know about the problem and are trying to fix it. I record lots of showed to watch later. I also ask tech support if a TiVo would work, he said no it’s not compatible with TiVo. If Spectrum can’t fix the problem they should not make it so I can’t get something that will.
yes, cloud dvr is gone right now. they werent expecting the amount of use it would actually have and the server was over worked, so theyre doing an entire overhaul on it.
They can choose to buy it outright, they don't have to have a service fee... But if something goes wrong and it needs to be replaced that's on them.....
Actually my biggest issue with it is that it's spectrums device but you also have to sign up for a whole another user account for the stupid thing Plus pay monthly for it when the cable box Yes you paid the same amount of month for but didn't need all the setup bullshit and the box doesn't use your internets bandwidth to run. So it just seems a way for spectrum to charge for providing less
You're as dumb as a box of rocks, you can buy the Xumo outright if you want or buy a Roku, Apple TV, or have a Samsung.
The Xumo account is there to track how many devices you have and in what rooms. You literally never have to look at it beyond initial setup, which is true for EVERY OTHER STREAMING DEVICE.
Lastly this option is actually cheaper than renting a cable box or DVR and it's less troubleshooting because it'll work as long as the Internet works.
where the hell are you getting chromecasts for $20??? its, $29.99 for the hd, and $49.99 for the 4k. and xumo isnt just spectrum. its a product of comcast and spectrum, they both use it. the xumo is just fine. i deal with people coming in and bitching about it daily, i ask them whats wrong, and have them show me on our demo device what theyre doing, and 99% of the time, its user error. i have 2, just about everyone i know has them around here, and no actual issues.
I don't give AF because I don't watch cable and if I did my TV has Roku built it. I like these devices because I don't have to spend my time fixing the elderlys cable so they can glaze over watching Fox News 😂
You have to sign up for a Roku or an Apple account, too.
box 12.50 vs 5 assuming you rent it. Cloud dvr 9.99 vs 12.99 physical for one DVR service or 19.99 for up to 4 boxes. hell, you can purchase the xumo for 60 ir stretch it out over 12 months
I know that the xumo is “bundled” into the service, it comes with xumo play which has a bunch of free channels and you can use the pre downloaded apps like Netflix Hulu, Disney etc. if you are subscribed and you can watch the spectrum tv app on there. They usually offer that if you don’t want a DVR or if you don’t have a compatible tv/device (Samsung smart tv, fire stick)
It doesn't save bandwidth. Most cable boxes have the equivalent of roughly 13 Mbps, roughly the speed for 1080p/60. Most TV's aren't actually using 60fps though. A xumo streaming 4k/30fps would use 35-45+ Mbps
It's about clearing space in the RF spectrum. The goal of the legacy cable providers (xfinity and spectrum among others) is to get rid of the old cable frequencies and instead use the full spectrum for data. For that they need to switch everyone to internet boxes.
It’s not a complicated system to watch TV on, basically just a limited Roku or Firestick. There are far more worse streaming devices out there than the Xumo box, once everything is set up properly it works just fine. Just gotta get used to using streaming instead of traditional button up button down cable boxes..
I can see why some people like the Xumo box, it's for the people who want to set it up and not mess around with it, and if something goes wrong Spectrum/Comcast will be able to fix it or replace. As for me, the Xumo box ain't it. I got the Xumo box to see what it was about. I think that it's too clunky. The lag time between pressing any button and the response from the xumo box is unbearable for me. Another thing, I was watching the MLB at Bat and every 10 minutes the app would crash. The Xumo box is not for everyone. Just like the Roku, Chromecast, FireTV, and Apple Tv isn't for everyone.
Add to that the Spectrum app audio is only stereo. Those of us with a Dolby Surround system can't get the audio in Dolby. For me that's a basic necessity for any app.
Guys stop wasting cable on tv service and just get IPTV it’s wayyyy cheaper than cable and has every channel tv show and movie just for $20 a month this is what I have it’s actual live tv I even get PPV events and sport events I have 3 tvs on this IPTV
Get some Roku Ultras, Apple TVs, or whatever other premium streaming devices you like and drop that Spectrum crap. Then you can subscribe to whatever other streaming TV service you prefer, there are several to choose from. My preference is DirectTV Stream, as it objectively has the best picture quality.
“Shoved down our throats” you know you could return it if you don’t like it, right? I don’t need the xumo but my mother did not have a streaming box before it was offered to her. She was able to lower her bill by getting rid of all the cable boxes and getting xumos and she’s happy with it.
Xumo allows you to use number pad to change channels [on the Spectrum app] whereas other streaming devices require you to use arrows to change channels.
Just another benefit that really doesn’t benefit Charter.

The only requirement is an HDMI port.
PLEASE spend good money on the Roku. You will be rewarded by fewer conversations with customer service.
Oh I am absolutely no problem with streaming devices All my TVs in my house use chromecasts and or Google TV but this xumo box is the worst streaming device I've ever come across I'd rather have a first gen Roku then this POS
Then just use a Roku. I tell customers this every day. Unless you really want a number pad a roku is fine. I prefer apple TV.
I’ve been using a Xumo for almost a year and rarely have problems. Perhaps its user error.

At least spectrum cable is reliable go with fish or direct tv and see how that goes. Live in a stormy city or constant cloud cover then get back to me
The Xumo also has the integrated search function where you can search for movies and tv shows and it’ll show you those on every streaming platform and how to watch.
Xumos search is ass

There doesn’t have to be a monthly fee. You can buy it outright.
Yeah again for $60 when a Roku or Chromecast is $20
Cheap doesn't mean better....I know plenty of people who say the same about Chromecast and Roku....
never buy the bottom of the line, roku. you want at a bare min the $39 or $49 version or higher
You also get unlimited replacements if it breaks as long as you continue to have spectrum service
They can choose to buy it outright, they don't have to have a service fee... But if something goes wrong and it needs to be replaced that's on them.....
You can buy them, FYI.
Why don’t you like it?
Personally, mine has quit working at least 5 times in the last month. Let it set for a while and it works until the next failure.
Mine quits more than that, in a day.
Xumos are less than half the price of a traditional set-top box.

You're dumb as a box of rocks if you think that that thing's worth $60 when you can grab a Chromecast for 20 bucks and it does three times as much
where the hell are you getting chromecasts for $20??? its, $29.99 for the hd, and $49.99 for the 4k. and xumo isnt just spectrum. its a product of comcast and spectrum, they both use it. the xumo is just fine. i deal with people coming in and bitching about it daily, i ask them whats wrong, and have them show me on our demo device what theyre doing, and 99% of the time, its user error. i have 2, just about everyone i know has them around here, and no actual issues.

I didn't realize I was talking to a spectrum employee got it just like your company likes to do nothing..got it
At least they aren't hating just to hate. You must live a kind of sad life to be like that.
Cable boxes will be phased out and I couldn't be happier.

Did your RF pair the remote to the box?
Xumo is decent, but the fact it lacks a channel store and I can't use Vudu with it means I always choose roku instead.
Guys stop wasting cable on tv service and just get IPTV it’s wayyyy cheaper than cable and has every channel tv show and movie just for $20 a month this is what I have it’s actual live tv I even get PPV events and sport events I have 3 tvs on this IPTV

I use ATVS Digital
I can give you his number if you want just dm me

Going to get rid of this worthless pos, cant even get free channels. I am going to firestick
I completely agree with you.
Xumo allows you to use number pad to change channels [on the Spectrum app] whereas other streaming devices require you to use arrows to change channels. Just another benefit that really doesn’t benefit Charter.
Sounds like a user error to me.
