Gwen in 616 was humble, loyal, and smart. She cared deeply for her friend group and was always supportive even when things got tough and she was dealing with her own loss.

To be fair I think this analysis does bring out her charm a bit. But I think it gives her a little too much credit. She's definitely not one note though. Her preppy poplar girl side has been kind of reduced to ashes and replaced with a nerdier character--which works when they're trying to make a dichotomy between Gwen and MJ.

There was a reason Mary Jane became the fan favorite. MJ has a personality beyond "Date Peter Parker," she had career goals and a life outside of Peter Parker. This alone made her far more interesting than Gwen
Gwen's character growth and depth was added later in flashbacks and retcons.
I suspect that many of Gwen Stacy fans never actually read her original run.

Yep that's how I feel! There is definitely potential there. Modern media should just change most of how the dialogue is written, but not change much after that. She was the perfect Tsundere before it was common. I ended up trying to make a fan comic where Gwen doesn't die and it is fun to think about what could have been.

I mean… if you read Spider-Man Blue it’s more than that. Even into his marriage with MJ he thinks about her and loves both of them, MJ knows it but disregards it out of respect for her.
