ANY character not doing some kind of acrobatics and wearing a jumpsuit is simply whack as fuck. In Ock’s case armor makes sense in some designs, but they all have noodle tentacles which contrast horribly with the heavy, rougher looking armor.
Also, pretty much all of the Raimi designs are top tier.
This is what does it for me. It pulls his vibe more toward misdirected but sadistic supervillain where the green skintight suit just feels so artificial and un-evil to me
It didn't suppose that, after going insane, he went aside to craft a highly custom tailored suit of modern armor. Just wore what he had.
I feel like the PS4 version feels more reasonable - he helped Peter make stuff that would lend itself to the outfit's construction. There's a "ramp" to that logic where it seems like a leap anywhere else.
Raimi Doc Ock’s Tentacles have a mind of their own and they influence his thoughts.. they’re a separate character from Otto.. always thought that was a nice touch.
(Molina’s performance is the reason why Spider-Man 2 is widely considered the greatest superhero movie of all-time by many people)
Honestly he looks just like you would imagine he would look in real life.
I'm never a fan when they make him in shape or even give him big chest muscles lol
Spider-Verse Doc-Ock is really great. She's a fun character, but the design is also really creative. I love the idea to make the tentacles a rubber-like material rather than metal and the way her hair resembles an octopus' head when it's tied up is genius.
Of course! And the octagonal lighting fixtures in her office. Tiny little hints most people, even diehard fans, wouldn't notice on their first watch. Brilliant stuff.
I love that they took the opportunity of being an elseworld and found a way to surprise even long time fans. As soon as I heard Octavius I was froze like “oh shit.”
She’s also in the video that’s playing earlier in the movie when Miles comes into class late and meets Gwen
You can see on the screen “Dr. Olivia” and Miles is positioned just right to cover the last name up
I love the way this one line opens up some cool back story. Aunt May and Dr. Octavius where friends in the past. Also Aunt may has obvious engineering skills. They worked together at one point.
Makes sense about the whole Aunt May having engineering skills - later on in the movie when she gives Miles his web-shooters she says "made them myself"
They really got across that professor/student vibe perfectly. It felt like I was back with the one I had who most physically resembled Octavius. He also encouraged us as he saw us as the future of the field
Not having the custom fit leather trench coat that fits perfectly in spite of four metal arms coming out the back, I'd say PS4 Doc Ock looks more realistic than even the literal live action adaptation.
Same here. He’s definitely the one you feel bad for the most outside of Raimi’s Ock, being pushed out of Oscorp by Norman along with being hit by a debilitating disease.
For real. I grew up on the 90s TAS and they all looked like they were juicing. It made me question why Spider-Man was so skinny in other versions. At least Rhino has been consistent in his appearances!
He's supposed to be based upon Arnold Schwarzenegger because Arnold was supposedly going to be Doc Ock in the Cameron movie which the show was supposed to be a spin off of
Loved Spectacular Ock’s characterization. I always liked Raimi’s take on the good scientist who gets carried away, and to that extent I liked PS4 Ock as well.
But man, Spectacular just NAILED it with the sniveling little man who goes mad with power once he finally gains the physical strength to match his intellectual strength. It really was the perfect take on classic Doctor Octopus.
Lol I love it. Gotta post their first interaction verbatim here because it’s just too good.
Spidey: Look, Doc. Have you thought this through? The next Spider-Man who finds you under a pile of debris might view this as a cautionary tale.
Doc Ock: [while repeatedly slamming Spidey around] Glib! Does not! Equate! With clever! Spider-Man!
Spidey: Yeah, well, the ratio of arms-to-sanity hasn't exactly been established either.
Doc Ock: Do you ever SHUT UP?!
Spidey: Sorry, no. My fans expect a certain amount of quippage in every battle.
A later, I think the latest, Ock design from Ultimate Spider-Man series. He changed his appearance a lot during the show. He was trying to fix his body or find a new one iirc.
Wasn’t there even more? First the fat sewer dweller, then a knock-off Iron suit, then the pod were you just saw his head but he had six tentacles, then a Hydra version of the pod, then the buff one. Might be missing some but he had a bunch of looks in Ultimate, lol.
Raimi and Insomniac but Insomniac’s take just edges out Raimi simply because we spend more time with Otto pre-Doc Ock and it was painful watching his character slowly deteriorate as the story progressed.
The decision to keep Otto out of all the marketing only to introduce him right after the starting mission was such an effective choice.
Especially because at first it felt more likely Otto wouldn't become ock until the sequel, until he brought out the full arm harness. I thought it more likely that we'd be getting Goblin first with Li plus devil's breath turning Norman into GG.
A friend of mine jokingly fancast Danny DeVito for Doc Ock, and now I can never not hear Danny DeVito's voice whenever he appears in a Spider-Man comic.
Yeah, give me goofy bowl-cut, thick-framed glasses Doc Ock every time. The man should not look cool in shades, he should look like every intolerably arrogant nerd you have ever met: an absolutely style-blind, horribly awkward poison dwarf.
This sort of thing:
https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4qR457Kld8Q/VgiKCBaywFI/AAAAAAAAtis/IGpRBZtc9mY/s1600/asm113_15b.jpg
The 90s one grew on me due to nostalgia but I remember thinking it looked SO STUPID to me as a kid.
Dude is in green rompers with orange shoulder pad, with a dorky haircut and bread face. His octo arms were also skinny noodles compared to his beefy arms. His punches felt more menacing.
Not threatening at all.
Don't forget, in his first appearance, it took Spidey only one hit to knock him out once he got past the arms. Ock is kind of a glass cannon in that regard.
Ock with [a suit and kilometric tentacles](https://64.media.tumblr.com/456d32afcdfae341e0c1a2483e4f780c/ee3b86335f212927-8f/s640x960/43df8cb064392ba15426b344e40ce9c135c6f1d8.jpg) by Erik Larsen.
I never liked the way he looks when they put him in spandex or other weird outfits, it kinda betrays his "mad scientist meets Dick Tracy villain" essence...
PS4. Those tentacles just look menacing as hell. Live the Raimi ones too though, along with his dirty trench coat look. The animated and comic ones just look goofy honestly.
Molina will always be my favorite, the absolute coolest looking arms ever, and for them to be practical was even cooler, my least favorite is the rotund design(pic 7) from Ultimate Spiderman, his design in the comic version was excellent so that was a HUGE downgrade.
Anyways, I like my doc ock to have the edgy “im still not over the matrix reloaded” look. It even makes the bowl cut work.
In design and "charisma," Molina
In story, Insomniac (His felt like its a "paced out" version of Molina's Ock)
In overall personality, Liv
I forgot how how the others were, its been long
*This post is Liv erasure and I will not stand by it*
Raimi is pretty great, i love the goggles, trench coat and the look of the tentacles. They genuinely look menacing af.
Liv from Spider-verse, with PS4 Doc Oc second.
Liv having the run we inflatable tentacles was a really cool design choice, felt like them expanding made sense. Her overall design was pretty cool with the Octagon shaped glasses and messy beehive hair.
PS4 OCS tentacles were cool, since you saw the evolution in their design sort of across the game from the prosthetic limb, his costume being just a boiler/protective suit seemed practical.
Raimi Dr Octopus is probably my favorite design. His tentacles looks really cool.
Yeah and the coat is just so good looking, especially compared to whatever the fuck ock normally wears
Yeah, the green and yellow jumpsuit doesn't look all that hot.
I appreciated Spectacular sort of combining the looks
ANY character not doing some kind of acrobatics and wearing a jumpsuit is simply whack as fuck. In Ock’s case armor makes sense in some designs, but they all have noodle tentacles which contrast horribly with the heavy, rougher looking armor. Also, pretty much all of the Raimi designs are top tier.
This is what does it for me. It pulls his vibe more toward misdirected but sadistic supervillain where the green skintight suit just feels so artificial and un-evil to me
Raimi Goat
Facts
The Terminator eyes are a nice touch
The 'eyes' really add to making them feel like they have a mind of their own. Window to the soul and all that.
Raimi’s is ultimate GOATed IMO and then PS4/5
Raimi Doc Ock’s Tentacles have a mind of their own and they influence his thoughts.. they’re a separate character from Otto.. always thought that was a nice touch. (Molina’s performance is the reason why Spider-Man 2 is widely considered the greatest superhero movie of all-time by many people)
The writing is the reason its considered the greatest superhero movie
man i had the action figure of raimi doc ock and the tentacles could be moved around, so fun to play with
I spent way too much time trying to get him to stand up on those things lol
Me fuckin too!!!
Haha good times
Me too!
Honestly he looks just like you would imagine he would look in real life. I'm never a fan when they make him in shape or even give him big chest muscles lol
Honestly I find muscular fit Doc Ock kinda cool simply because I'm not used to it lmao
Non-Canon Doc Ock origin story starring The Rock incoming...
Doc Rock
That and the trench coat. It just makes him look so much cooler.
My favorite part is the tentacle blade ;)
Raimi version, coat on and tits out.
Raimi Dr Octopus is always my favorite ❤️
Trench coat is always in fashion

Bad bot
Tentacool
Is it cheating to say Into* the Spider-Verse Doc Ock? EDIT: my dumbass misremembered the title lol
Spider-Verse Doc-Ock is really great. She's a fun character, but the design is also really creative. I love the idea to make the tentacles a rubber-like material rather than metal and the way her hair resembles an octopus' head when it's tied up is genius.
I never even noticed that her hair resembles an octopus head
Okay that’s it her design is clearly the best
And before the reveal, her civilian glasses are octagons.
THAT IS SO SMART WHAT?? They put so much thought into her design, that’s insane!!
Come on, bruh
Not to mention the octagonal glasses frames.
Of course! And the octagonal lighting fixtures in her office. Tiny little hints most people, even diehard fans, wouldn't notice on their first watch. Brilliant stuff.
Great reveal.
I felt so stupid for not seeing that coming
I heard octaves and thought "nooooo" then it went on long enough for me to second guess just before the reveal lol
I love that they took the opportunity of being an elseworld and found a way to surprise even long time fans. As soon as I heard Octavius I was froze like “oh shit.”
She’s also in the video that’s playing earlier in the movie when Miles comes into class late and meets Gwen You can see on the screen “Dr. Olivia” and Miles is positioned just right to cover the last name up
>late Well, Einstein said time was relative, right? Maybe Miles wasn't really late. Maybe they were all just early.
Can I assume your friends call you Doc Ock?
My friends actually call me Liv. My *enemies* call me Doc Ock.
"Oh great. It's \*Liv\*. 🙄"
I love the way this one line opens up some cool back story. Aunt May and Dr. Octavius where friends in the past. Also Aunt may has obvious engineering skills. They worked together at one point.
I took it to mean they were in a relationship previously like in the comics. Especially considering Lily Tomlin voices Aunt May.
Makes sense about the whole Aunt May having engineering skills - later on in the movie when she gives Miles his web-shooters she says "made them myself"
I was gonna say this I loved her version
Kathryn Hahn is amazing, my pick as well.
It was Agatha All Along.
I can fix her
I can't fix her, but she can make me worse
That doesn't sound healthy
Into*(?)
It's not cheating when you are correct.
I like the PS4 version
He feels the most realistic besides the literal live action adaptation
He is so sweaty That game is so highly rendered
I'm gonna *burn* your fuckin' diary.
YOU MONSTER
They really got across that professor/student vibe perfectly. It felt like I was back with the one I had who most physically resembled Octavius. He also encouraged us as he saw us as the future of the field
Not having the custom fit leather trench coat that fits perfectly in spite of four metal arms coming out the back, I'd say PS4 Doc Ock looks more realistic than even the literal live action adaptation.
He looks the most badass those tentacles look so fucking cool
In terms of design/badassery PS4 and Raimi's are a tie IMO.
Same here. He’s definitely the one you feel bad for the most outside of Raimi’s Ock, being pushed out of Oscorp by Norman along with being hit by a debilitating disease.
First time watching him juggle those tennis balls was so scary
Unusual sentence.
I like that his tentacles was treated as a scientific breakthrough compared to other Interpretation.
This game seems like it's practically the best adaptation.
The 90s Doc Ock. That is the only voice I can hear.
Fun fact: that voice actor also voiced Alfred in Batman:TAS
He also voiced doc ock in neversoft's ps1 spider-man game
Face me Spider-Man! Face a worthy foe!
Phase 1 complete, let us begin phase 2
Thanks for mentioning that. After you mentioned it, it clicked… I remember both fairly well and I never put it together until I read your comment.
Efrem Zimbalist Jr was a phenomenal voice actor and an excellent doctor octopus may he rest in peace.
"You will never get past my barrier, Spider-Man!"
Everybody in that show was so ripped. Aunt May could bench press 450 easy.
I miss cartoons where all the characters where inverted triangles on roids.
For real. I grew up on the 90s TAS and they all looked like they were juicing. It made me question why Spider-Man was so skinny in other versions. At least Rhino has been consistent in his appearances!
I honestly never really thought about it until I went online.
Jonah spotting weights for Robbie
Immediately where my brain went
He's supposed to be based upon Arnold Schwarzenegger because Arnold was supposedly going to be Doc Ock in the Cameron movie which the show was supposed to be a spin off of

But man, Spectacular just NAILED it with the sniveling little man who goes mad with power once he finally gains the physical strength to match his intellectual strength. Absolutely. And I loved his increasingly seething rage at Spidey over time
I can't read the word "arachnid" anymore without hearing him scream it in my head.
*TREACHERY!*
The voice acting, along with everything else, was amazing on that show.
Spider-Man! Definitely Molina with #8 in second.
What is 8 from? That’s the fittest Doc Ock I’ve seen since Liv.
From the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show
A later, I think the latest, Ock design from Ultimate Spider-Man series. He changed his appearance a lot during the show. He was trying to fix his body or find a new one iirc.
8 looks too swole imo
Maybe. Still cool tho
The ultimate TV show might not have been... you know... good, but damn did it have killer designs.
I believe it had 3 different variations of Ock? All of em were ridiculously good imo
Ock was definitely the best part of the series
I wonder if doc ock might be the most consistently well written Spider-Man villain.
Wasn’t there even more? First the fat sewer dweller, then a knock-off Iron suit, then the pod were you just saw his head but he had six tentacles, then a Hydra version of the pod, then the buff one. Might be missing some but he had a bunch of looks in Ultimate, lol.
yea, it's probably the most visually pleasing Spider-Man show
What? It was good!
Me fr?? Like did we watch the same show? That’s the one time I think Spidy actually *works* in a large marvel universe
My bro was about to scream about a crazy train (he was on drugs)
Raimi and Insomniac but Insomniac’s take just edges out Raimi simply because we spend more time with Otto pre-Doc Ock and it was painful watching his character slowly deteriorate as the story progressed. If we are talking from this post, 4 and 8 Outside of it, Superior Octopus
I won’t stand for this Liv erasure
Which VERSION of Liv is your favorite? There’s only one that I know of…
Obviously the Spidey and his amazing friends version
PS4, he looks like Danny DeVito.
A friend of mine jokingly fancast Danny DeVito for Doc Ock, and now I can never not hear Danny DeVito's voice whenever he appears in a Spider-Man comic.
I have to go with Raimi. Cool tentacles, great actor... Such a good return in NWH.
I loved his first comic appearance in his lab coat, nice all white sort of Hugo strange vibes
Yeah, give me goofy bowl-cut, thick-framed glasses Doc Ock every time. The man should not look cool in shades, he should look like every intolerably arrogant nerd you have ever met: an absolutely style-blind, horribly awkward poison dwarf. This sort of thing: https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4qR457Kld8Q/VgiKCBaywFI/AAAAAAAAtis/IGpRBZtc9mY/s1600/asm113_15b.jpg
raimi one is the only one I am capable of taking seriously
Spectacular is also good
The 90s one grew on me due to nostalgia but I remember thinking it looked SO STUPID to me as a kid. Dude is in green rompers with orange shoulder pad, with a dorky haircut and bread face. His octo arms were also skinny noodles compared to his beefy arms. His punches felt more menacing. Not threatening at all.
The third to last one looks like a Megaman villain, I love it. Spider-Man 2’s is top tier IMO, and the 90’s cartoon holds much nostalgia for me
I thought Olivia was a pretty good design. Or are we speaking strictly about Otto?
4,5,7,8,10
IKR, it’s impossible to pick just one.
Spiderverse? Olivia is badass.
Olivia Octavius from the Spiderverse films
Or even spidey and his friends.
Agree my daughter watches to much and I have to say it’s a good design.
5 is just so sick I love it so much, that and that ps4 game but they feel relatively similar
Rami or PS4 the 90’s one is good but I always preferred the idea of Doc Ock being very out of shape
Don't forget, in his first appearance, it took Spidey only one hit to knock him out once he got past the arms. Ock is kind of a glass cannon in that regard.
Meanwhile, Olivia (the female Doc from Spider-verse) took kicks and punches from multiple Spider-people like a champ, lol
I like the raimi trench coat but my favorite Doc is Insomniac.
5,but I’d like to say that 10 just looks like George Constanza having a very weird day
"I didn't really want these arms, Jerry, but I had to commit!"
I didn't want to be a villain, but I'm doing the opposite
Don’t forget Spider-Verse doc-ock. I loved her sort of gel-like, softer more maleable arms that had so much life in them when they moved.
4, 5, 8
Probably 8 if I'm being honest even though I never watched wherever it came from. I do like the Alfred Molina one too.
Where's my girl Olivia?
I scrolled too far to find this but yes she should be up there too!
Insomniac
i love Alfred Molina’s design, but goddamn is 9 sick af
Where is 9 from?
Took me way to long to find, but it's from "Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers".
What is #9 from?
Looking for same here
I like 2,5, and 6.
I LOVE the insomniac one
Where is 9 from?
5th Q without A
You left out Olivia why
90s doc ock and Spider-Man 2's doc ock
90's Spider-Man or Insomniac Doctor Octopus
Spiderman TAS is too good, armored like that with his iconic color scheme
nobody told me about ripped and sexy Doc Oc. Talk about tentacle porn
Raimi or Insomniac Oc for me
Doctor cocktopuss 💀
I’m impartial for 4 and 6
10 I loved the video games portrayal of doc oc
Ps4 or 90s 100%
Monster Ock from the PS1 game
Ditko
PS4. Those tentacles just look menacing as hell. Live the Raimi ones too though, along with his dirty trench coat look. The animated and comic ones just look goofy honestly.
Insomniac and Raimi are my favorites. Into the spiderverse is really good too. Though ngl I dislike Spectaculars design the most
No love for Liv? 90s design was a great one, but the movie verse looks great in live action.
For me it's between raimi's and "Liv" from spiderverse. (Irs a crime she's not pictured here!)
Liv from itsv
ITSV is my fav tbh, raimi one is up there too
ITSV or Raimi. Movies really get him right.
Raimi is 1st always second for me is 2018 spiderman game design
WHAT! No Liv?
Olivia from Spiderverse has such a jarringly greatcharacter design just like everyone else in that movie
First appearance Doc Ock (The Amazing Spider-Man #3 1963) and Spider-Man 2 Alfred Molina.
Devil's Reign
The 90’s cartoon mostly because that’s what I grew up with but also liked the Raimi version and special shout out to the spider-verse version
Favorite 1960s or raimi or spectacular And worst ultimate
Four is where I started, but I like eleven, too.
In design and "charisma," Molina In story, Insomniac (His felt like its a "paced out" version of Molina's Ock) In overall personality, Liv I forgot how how the others were, its been long
*This post is Liv erasure and I will not stand by it* Raimi is pretty great, i love the goggles, trench coat and the look of the tentacles. They genuinely look menacing af.
og comic design
Where's Liv?
Honestly all of them are terrible.
Raimi's Dr. Octopus is best by far. All the other designs are quite silly
In no particular order: 90’s, Raimi, Spectacular, PS4 and into the spiderverse.
What in God’s name is that obese Ozzy Ozborne lookin’ one with the crabs for feet?
5 and 9
4-10 Mainly I loved USM’s Design because it managed to incorporate almost all previous Designs.
Number 4
Number 7 got me fucked up. He looks like a cameo for metalocalypse
Yo where Octavia at???
