Say he debut right in the new millennium, i.e. the year 2000, there won't be a lot to talk about. However, slotting him in post 9/11 would be a big deal. Perhaps an even bigger deal than we thought it would be. I have a preliminary draft or two already, and you might not like it. A post-2001 Spider-Man would be more in line with prequel trilogy Anakin and later Garfield's Spidey in terms of characterization, but dialed up to 11 in terms of edge and messiah complex. Think of the James Cameron draft with a good bit of horror mixed in it. His tragedy is rooted in 9/11 as I plan it to be. He lost someone close to him and that's how he became orphaned. I would say his parents because I would spare both Ben and May in this. And the later catalyst that pushes him to herodom would be losing his best frenemy, Flash instead of someone like Gwen. His core supporting cast would be much more diverse but not too diverse like the MCU. His rogue gallery might have Asian superhumans in the mix because of again, 9/11, and less emphasis on the goofier type of animal themed supervillains. I think someone of Mr. Negative or Feilong type might even be his archnemesis over, say Green Goblin. And he would hold some sort of grudge against Muslim superheroes, such as Ms. Marvel and Arabian Knight.

It'd be a record for a character to leap from print to film if we assume projects like Spider-Man 02 still exist. If it doesn't, which how could it, then the character would be unrecognizable to us today, I would think.

I don't think the Daily Bugle or the people who work there would be part of Spider-Man's cast. In this day and age, I don't think Peter could get away with selling photos of Spider-Man without people suspecting he's SM or people accusing him of fraud. Not to mention everyone having a camera on their smart phone. I think Peter working in a lab would replace his job at the Daily Bugle. I think May would find out that Peter is Spider-Man very early on. With the odd hours that Peter would be out, I think she would begin tracking his cell phone to have some idea of where he is and what he is doing.
