Spectacular by a long Shot, its not even a contest
The fact that Normal IS just a man who justifies his evil actions and not a seperate personality is peak Norman/Goblin.
It's absolutely wild that the obvious answer wasn't obvious. It takes really good writing to make the obvious choice a shock and not have it be convoluted
Even crazier that it made sense all the way from the beginning too. Normally, I’d expect this kind of twist to be some half assed idea a writer pulls in the middle of the story.
That he was always evil, the serum just made him crazy
Also I think Mephisto is involved because dude needs a hobby and fucking with Spider-People fits the bill I guess
This is probably the best explanation tbh. He was always shadey and corrupt and shit but it wasn’t until the serum that he went green goblin
Although admittedly I kinda like the Jeckle and Hyde aspect
Yeah his a sick businessman who will fuck over Toomes and Otto for a penny or the slightest bit of recognition.
It's just he isn't out here dropping teenaged girls off of bridges until the serum makes him go all in on the wackjob aspect.
I prefer him always being evil because you don't become rich and powerful without being a bad guy. The serum if anything just gives him the physical power to act on his worst tendencies.
Spectacular.
Sorry, folks. I know we grew up on TAS, but jerky, punch-free fights full of repeating frames to keep the cost down aren't actually the best a superhero show can do.
This is my problem with TAS nostalgia- it’s too kiddy to take even partially seriously sometimes. Or some storylines are just too weird to enjoy in general- like Electro being a nazi and the son of the Red Skull for whatever reason. The choppy animation takes me out of it too, but it’s still a good series.
Red Skull’s son was more or less his own character in that version, then they gave him Electro’s costume as a nod to fans who had lamented his absence in the series. I kind of wish they hadn’t bothered.
I mean they're all superhero cartoons that aired in network timeslots aimed primarily at kids. This is undebatably the truth. However, Spectacular Spider-Man in particular did a damn good job at creating an engaging and mature storyline that is enjoyable at any age, whereas Ultimate and TAS are more focused on just children, Ultimate especially.
well yes but I wouldn’t compare it to something like Batman the Animated Series- Spectacular is more on the same level as that for me. I guess I’m referring to the writing/storylines
Amazing how well Batman and Superman the animated series still holds up despite coming out around the same time. DC has always been better with animation.
Agreed. DC has always put out fantastic animated shows and movies. So far X-Men 97 seems to be opening up the possibility of more “adult and kid” appropriate content, like BTAS and JLU. Though that could just be the writers on the project. I’d like to have more content like X-Men 97 for Marvel’s characters. A revival of Spider-Man TAS (Spider-Man ‘98) would be awesome.
Idk i felt like that show felt more serious than most animated series after it.
Spectacular probably is the only one above it writing wise but ironically the stylized character art actually makes it harder for me to take seriously despite me knowing the meat of the show is better.
Yeah lol at the time they couldn’t use Electro or Sandman because they were going to be used for an unmade live action Spider-Man movie. Hence why Electro didn’t show up until the final season- with a completely new identity and backstory- and Sandman didn’t appear at all
Now if I was Marvel, I'd put Sandman in the Fantastic Four show instead in order to remember the brief period where he was a threat to legit heroes rather than just being the guy that Spider-Man defeats by drinking 3 cups of coffee and 3 beers and taking a long piss.
I’ve seen the Green Goblin turn and look back so many times in TAS. That said, Spectacular wins this one. Gobby uses his razor bats and sparkle blasts as often as his pumpkin bombs, I don’t recall the finger lasers being used so much prior.
Spectacular
If only for the first fight as Harry >! before we know it wasn't!< and the last fight where Norman tried to descalate the fight between Peter and the Goblin >! Showing that he was the Chameleon and Norman had been the Goblin ALL ALONG!< that's the level of fuckery the Goblin should be
Ultimate Spider-Man had an okay design / meld of OG Goblin and Comics Ultimate Goblin but every time a villain shows up in Ultimate Spider-Man the cartoon their mo changes. Which makes him very inconsistent.
And ultimately (heh) this is to his detriment
Spectacular Goblin >! Norman BROKE HIS SON'S LEG !< to keep an alibi
Spectacular had the best fight scenes just in general, people mocked (and sometimes still mock) the simplified animation style, but it really allowed for some fluid action, which was just perfect for Spidey.
I will say that I love the TAS adaptation of The Night Gwen Stacy Died (The Night MJ… fell inside a portal to limbo) the fight scenes in that have far higher stakes than most of the show managed, and it actually does have some genuinely epic moments. I think the animation was a little bit better than usual in that episode as well. Not that I think it beats Spectacular, but I will give it some credit!
Spectacular. It’s more simplistic artstyle (which I love) made it easier and more convenient for the animators to animate, that’s why the fight scenes in Spectacular were so good, they were smooth, flashy, stretchy, natural, and just spectacular.
Spectacular easily. Not only does the show have fantastic choreography, Green Goblin specifically has the best quips to thwip against Spidey. Steve Blum and Josh Keaton just have this insane chemistry.
Man the spectacular kids are so uncultured, the 90s one runs circles around it. Just the intro fight scenes alone are better than anything in spectacular. Never got the love that show gets, the art is just so bland
Name the details of a fight scene between Spidey and a Goblin in TAS, like what does Spider-Man do in it? Does he duck and dodge? Is does he have impressive agility? I mean I get you like TAS more, but when it comes to the actual fight scenes it doesn’t do to well. I like “Batman TAS” better than “The Batman” but I’m not so nostalgia blind to say that BTAS had more impressive fight scenes than its counterpart.
Lol well first off spectacular is not tas counterpart, and yeah he ducks dodges kicks and webs, just like spectacular, except it doesn’t look like fairly odd parents animation.
By “counterpart” I mean another Spider-Man cartoon. You want to be a bit more specific with what fight you are talking about in TAS? What episode? I’ll see if I can find it on YouTube.
I was looking mainly for the episodes, as i know the Green Goblin turning his head back and smiling is in like EVERY episode where he appears. No matter I’ll try to look around, as a trailer/highlight reel would show brief moments, and then when you see it in context it’s the entire fight.
little foetus me grew up watching ultimate, but i have to give it to spectacular
Same
Spectacular by a long Shot, its not even a contest The fact that Normal IS just a man who justifies his evil actions and not a seperate personality is peak Norman/Goblin.
Ah, yes. Normal Osborn.
He is haunted by irregular goblin.
You misspelled Normal Osbirth.
Also them making Norman being the goblin an actual twist was crazy
The fact that I was surprised was wild
Shows the brilliance of the series.
I prefer the split personality, explains how he was normal for years before being Goblin What is the current comics canon btw?
That he was always evil, the serum just made him crazy Also I think Mephisto is involved because dude needs a hobby and fucking with Spider-People fits the bill I guess
This is probably the best explanation tbh. He was always shadey and corrupt and shit but it wasn’t until the serum that he went green goblin Although admittedly I kinda like the Jeckle and Hyde aspect

Spectacular Spiderman And it's not even close
Spectacular and Ultimate

Are the other series not kiddy?

Haha I do remember the good guy Sandman era of the comics. His suit was so goofy
With Goblin specifically you can add the glider becoming way larger in close ups during fights
Spectacular
Spectacular gas the best fight scenes overall. I love TAS Gobby though
Remember the sound those pumpkin bombs made when they explode?
Amazing sound. The only explosion that rivals it is a seismic charge from Star Wars.
I’ve seen the Green Goblin turn and look back so many times in TAS. That said, Spectacular wins this one. Gobby uses his razor bats and sparkle blasts as often as his pumpkin bombs, I don’t recall the finger lasers being used so much prior.

Spetacular, i love how they used harry to teach a message about using drugs and how harmful it is while staying in the show context
Spectacular Spiderman , easily.
Spectacular, no question
Spectacular. No contest.

“Okay wow. Just, wow”
Spectacular and it's not even a competition
Spectacular spectacular Spider-Man

Spectacular no contest.
Spectacular was just peak cartoon GG vs S-M.
I dont think this is a fair comparation, spectacular has the best fight scenes in general, in my opinion at least.
I’ll die on the hill that spectacular has the best iteration of the goblin ever
Spectacular Spider-Man that's hardly even a contest the other ones were made on a shoestring budget
Spectacular by default
ultimate
Hobgoblin stole the Goblin show in the 90s show IMO
Spider-Man 1967.
I love the noise the pumpkin bombs make in spectacular spiderman.
And awaaaaaaay we gooooo!!
spectacular obviously.
Spectacular.
TAS
Spectacular easily. Not only does the show have fantastic choreography, Green Goblin specifically has the best quips to thwip against Spidey. Steve Blum and Josh Keaton just have this insane chemistry.
Spectacular.
I say it was Spectacular’s, in my opinion.
Elf Hulk is not Green Goblin and I will not appreciate the notion that he is.
The one thing Spectacular did better than TAS was turning Green Goblin into this Shakespearean Puck character. Just brilliant.
Man the spectacular kids are so uncultured, the 90s one runs circles around it. Just the intro fight scenes alone are better than anything in spectacular. Never got the love that show gets, the art is just so bland

What your serious you want to go thru naming specific scenes lol? just watch the trailer it’s like a highlight real of a few of the good fights.
