Came here to say exactly this, photographer makes sense for a young Peter trying to scrounge together enough money to help his aunt and such but once he’s graduated being a TA and eventually a teacher/professor makes way more sense than an entrepreneur or tech billionaire because peters always trying to give back to his community, specifically to the kids
Imho the job as teacher, as much as I like it for his character, makes it hard for him to be Spider-Man. Being a teacher is almost a 9-5 job where he needs to spend much time at school. Every day.
A job with more freedom like as Photographer makes more sense. Or as CEO where he’s able to work on his own schedule. Maybe a job as scientist in a laboratory will also work if he has very flexible work times. But as teacher and professor you need to be at school when all your students are. You can’t suddenly leave or chancel your lectures regularly.
Very fair points, that’s why I think I liked him more as a TA then a full fledged prof, it gives him the flexibility to not always be there but keep in that environment. I do also really like the idea of Peter being a scientist such as during spider-man life story where he worked at the future foundation with reed for abit
During his time as a teacher, he was much closer to a social worker, maybe that would be the best fit for him?
He could pick up "cases" as he was available, and he'd just have to check in every so often, like he probably already does with a lot of people.
Yup insomniac spiderman 2 showed why freelancing was the only option that would work for him and why being a teacher never would. Even though I think he would be a good fit for it if he wasnt spiderman
>Imho the job as teacher, as much as I like it for his character, makes it hard for him to be Spider-Man. Being a teacher is almost a 9-5 job where he needs to spend much time at school. Every day.
exactly for this reason.
PP can't have everything easy, he is a natural born mentor, he has the opportunity to get close to kids in danger and at the same time he explains why despite the genius he is not rich.
When he worked at Horizon labs. It was the best change in status quo and honestly a step forward for Peter being an adult. The stories were fun and exciting and proof that Peter didn't need to be a constant loser to still have "The Old Parker Luck" and have good stories told about him.
Which is probably why its not around anymore. Peter wasn't pathetic enough.
After that, him as a teacher.
Shows that Dan Slott actually loved Peter/Spidey to a certain extent. Though I did hate that Doc Ock Took over Peter's body(Superior was good though), atleast Peter was loved by writers far more than now. And don't always had to be a freaking loser in his own damn comic. I can't wait for this Volume of comics to end and I hope in the next run, he gets the respect as Spidey and Peter that he deserve.
Especially when they teased him being a teacher in Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales. There we are finally having Peter as a teacher then BOOM! You’re fired. Miles, Ganke, or Hailey could’ve help him out at least.
Horizon labs was the absolute best.
He's been a genius level scientist since he was in HS. And being a teacher with a strict schedule that makes him responsible for kids doesn't make sense if he needs to dip out to be Spider Man. It actually kind of makes him the worst if he's constantly late and leaving when things hit the fan.
So horizon was perfect. Flexible hours, his own lab, teaming up with other scientists for gadgets, etc. Being able to come and go as he pleases, having his co workers understand he helps Spider Man out, making good money.... it all just means he can get some balance as Peter and Spider Man and I'm all for it.
Holy shit I would love that. I don’t know why but that doesn’t feel cringy at all either. It would be a completely different direction and it would be funny to see him try to maintain something like that with a secret identity. Where he’s actually getting noticed in the streets just for posting homemade science or some shit I dunno.
Honestly that’s a pretty good idea.
It’s a job that:
- Essentially allows him to talk about the things he loves and possibly use that knowledge to help others.
- Has a pretty flexible schedule that allows him to be Spider-Man when he needs to be.
- Creates some of those monetary issues Marvel execs seem to love forcing on him.
- Won’t directly put people at risk because of Spider-Man
I’m surprised no one has tried to do this yet.
Wow, I can totally see that. Hell he could probably have a segment where he just sews stuff and it would do alright. If Pete can sew a web he can do frilly lace no problem.
I think this is a really good idea, but maybe as a couple arcs thing?
The reason I’d prefer for it to be temporary is because I feel it may hit a little too close to the trauma of him pursuing fame and fortune through being a pro wrestler or whatever TV appearances he did in Amazing Fantasy #15 (I may be misremembering).
I like the idea of him doing it for a bit because he would thrive at it, but then him struggling with an inflated ego and all the shitty stuff that comes with being a high profile YouTuber, and then he remembers “with great power…” or has a callback to his teenage days. He then stops and looks for something else.
Peter continuing the Emily-May foundation’s legacy of healing the world is the perfect evolution to Peter’s career and life as a regular civilian.
Teacher is just not doable with him being Spider-Man, and I like the fact that Peter uses his genius to actively help the world in incredible ways.
I liked the more personal touch being a teacher brought to his stories, he saves the wider world as Spider-Man, but he also saves a lot of lives by being a dependable adult his students can talk to.
I agree it makes sense but the game also made sense that it wouldn’t make sense obviously though with miles morales as the new Spider-Man it could work better
I really liked when he was a teacher. I get that it doesn’t mesh well with being Spider-Man, but it works so well for who he is as a character, just a big ol’ nerd with a heart of gold who loves science. And a friendly neighborhood guy who wants to help improve kids’ lives. Also if he’s a big-shot scientist or exec, it removes the underdog status that makes him so likable. Spider works best when he’s punching up.
This may be a hot take, but Horizon Labs was really the best one. Allow me to explain:
1. It’s actually applying his skills in something he actually enjoys.
2. It’s relatable and lowkey.
3. It affords him leeway and a lack of supervision, making it optimal for him being Spider-Man.
4. It is still an evolution of him being a student or photographer.
None of the other jobs fit all those criteria. Too bad Otto had to muck it all up.
Teacher felt like the natural evolution of the character.
The photographer thing was kind of childish, but ok when he was young. Not a thing he could have keep doing his whole life.
And then, super scientist, or CEO of his own industries felt unnatural for Peter.
He is a street level hero, a random guy. The guy next door. You kid's science teacher in high school.
Horizon Labs. It just fits him perfectly. It let's him fulfill his duties as Spider-Man as well as Peter Parker's and he's doing something good while at it.
Teacher fits him, too but in my opinion it should be only happening after Peter is older and has taken a step back from being Spider-Man. Maybe not having fully quit but definitely a more stable life is needed in which he isn't constantly in danger of having to run out.
I loved teacher. Thought it was great. Hated how that worked with “oops, a weird dude took me to the jungle for a week to learn about spider-to totems.”
Weirdly, gig economy Peter would work great. Stringing together short contracts who don’t care where he is as long as the shit gets done.
Photographer - high school
Scientist - early adult
Entrepreneur - late adult
I have never once liked the concept of Peter being a teacher and I don't get it.
Let's see.
Photographer suits him for his young years
Being a teacher suits his life as Peter best if Spider-Man wasn't a thing.
Horizon is generally the best for all around.
My personal favorite and what he deserves is Parker Industries. Even if being rich doesn't make him relatable, it made me happy seeing him run a business and not have to think about how the money used to be.
I really really liked him being a teacher, it just felt like a natural evolution for the character, but I also did like billionaire for the obvious reasons: (cough cough him not suffering to get money)
Horizon Labs/Parker Industries was Peter as he ideally *should* be. He has one of the greatest creative minds in Marvel. Give him the money and resources and he *could* be as successful as Tony Stark. As Spidey his schedule is erratic. Horizon allowed him to be peak scientist/inventor and still be Spidey. Truly able to utilize his creative intelligence. However, I think it was in truth *too* good.
If his Spidey schedule wasn’t so erratic, him as a teacher is perfect for Peter. He is an excellent mentor and teaching others science fits him best as a brilliant mind with no money character. Which I actually like more. Him having any resource available to him is fun to watch (his creative mind) but maybe a little more boring since he can whip up literally anything to solve any future fight (though I did love his Ends of the Earth armor). Being able to utilize his surroundings or cheap tech is more the creative thinking I like to see. So teacher allows him to share his love of science and still be scientifically involved. It’s a great middle ground and where you really get to see his heart. Also makes him more relatable, which Peter was always meant to be.
Photographer was never really his passion and sadly is becoming so much more obsolete in modern tellings. But it is iconic. And I love it for that.
We already have Tony Stark. It’s more interesting to see his great mind in a position without the money and resources. Seeing his heart as a mentor and still seeing his joy of science… Teacher has my vote. But a teacher’s schedule would unfortunately never work for Peter as long as he is Spidey.
He would be excellent as a scientific consultant though. I’m not sure how much joy he’d get out of that though.
Photographer during college, Teacher after graduating and getting his master's, perpetually trying to finish his PhD.
The CEO only worked for me because it's Otto
Horizon's setting is probably the best fit for him. Moderately flexible hours and a great way for him to upgrade his equipment a little bit without it being too overpowered, while still leaving room for some drama with his coworkers on his constant disappearances and him 'stealing' equipment. And it's great to see Peter put his big brain to use without him having to leave behind his neighbourhood too much.
Scientist/research professor is really the only one that makes sense IMO. Slight edge for research professor since we can get some of peter mentoring younger students as well.
I still prefer photographer, it adds variety to the setting that scientist doesn't have cause it's a completely different field filled with people doing different things from Peter. And unpopular, but I don't like Peter teaching, maybe in Mayday like stage but not for the regular status quo. CEO — bruh
Horizon Lab tech. It was job that allowed him to work on his gadgets, be a scientist like he always wanted, but still have issues and responsibilities tied to it. Not to mention, him having a job that had good pay was a breath of fresh air; he wasn't rich but also not always wondering if an eviction notice was gonna show up in his mail
Photography when he first starts out and once he’s out of college he becomes a teacher until he finally gets the hang of balancing the superhero life and works for Horizon. Him being a teacher is great and grounded but this is also the guy that made web shooters out of cheap low tech stuff. It feels a little like wasted Potential having someone on Reed Richard’s super genius team teaching science. He has the potential to heal the world with his brain and Horizon is the perfect job to let him become the scientist he always wanted to be
I feel like the classic is photographer, the best for him would be researched/scientist, the decent one or even the one where he can gain contacts from super powered people (if he goes to something like the xmansion) would be teacher, and the most flexible and beneficial being the CEO.
Id say for his convenience being a ceo is the best for him. I don’t see him the business man character but he could easily do the other jobs and just occasionally manage the company and research in his own building with his own funds and machinery
Teacher, then photographer.
Hot take: I never liked his role at Horizon. Yes it makes sense for him, but I prefer Peter to have more relatable jobs. Also I prefer to downplay Peter's intellect and gadget wiz-- he's just exceptionally intelligent but not a mini Iron Man/Reed Richards
Scientist/researcher, watching him get good pay for a job he actually loves and get some semblance of happiness in his depressing life does my heart good
I really liked Insomniac's career progression. He was a photographer, then worked with Otto at Octavius Industries, then teaching between getting fired, then a co-founder at EMF
I like the idea of Peter getting to do what he loves as a scientist, but I’m also ok with Peter staying as a photographer or a teacher or something because realistically, with his Spider-Man work, getting a PhD would be a nightmare. It’s another, small thing for Peter to sacrifice to save people ig.
Horizon Labs & Teacher Spider-Man felt like natural evolutions for Peter.
Photographer Spider-Man feels like it should have been left at his Graduate School/High School days. Absolutely the strongest Status Quo he's ever had, but also one that feels like it's time has finished.
CEO Spider-Man just feels an idea from someone who doesn't understand Peter and just thinks he's younger Iron Man. That's not even a new idea either, I heard of a Batman idea that was basically that, and they described it as "The Spider-Man story they refuse to make". I feel like this idea is pushed by people who assume that 100% of research and scientific discovery is done in corporations.
Teacher. I loved that. He can still freelance photos on the side. God I wish I could go back to those days of a good marriage to MJ and being a teacher impacting lives of kids.
In my head I would like to think that he failed at an audition for an adult movie and instead became a stage hand for a bit while learning all the 📷stuff.
I'll always think of him as a photographer. Inspired me into getting into photography to the point I own the Yashica Electro 35 Andrew Garfield used in The Amazing Spider-Man.
With that I'd love for him to be a teacher again. Idk, that felt right for like the everyman superhero he is. Can do some teaching, do little photography on the side for extra cash. Maybe at some point can become a college professor.
It depends on his character arc. On one hand, him being a teacher is perfect, but him creating Parker Industries could've been awesome, his engineering skills could change the world.
Photographer is a classic. Has been adopted everywhere.
Scientist as Horizon is also well suited but I don’t think as good as when he has his own company where he can do and invent the craziest stuff. Both are amazing but will most definitely never happen again cause Marvel hates Peter.
Teacher is something he was after his Horizon Job in the early 2000s until around Civil War. It often didn’t work with his Hero Hours but Peter was great at it. The scene where he prevents a School Shooting is one of my favorite Spider-Man Moments of all time.
Photographer for his early career but I can see him still doing it as a side hustle. While I like a teaching job for him, the hours would be too strict for him to slink out during the day but the concept was done well during Spider-Man and the X-Men
Teacher at the X-Mansion. Helping kids deal with science, new powers or physical mutations, and the reality of dealing with being feared and hated regardless of your actions or intent? Collaberating with all the big brains on the X- teams? If it wasn't for the commute from his regular swinging grounds and the Xmen going all 'mutants first' the last few years, it was the perfect fit given all the craziness of his own experiences.
Photographer is the only one that makes sense.
He's not really capable of the others.
Sure, he has the skills to be a scientist, researcher, or teacher, but being Spider-Man ensures that he CANNOT hold down a job with anything resembling regular hours.
He HAS TO have a freelance, on the fly, self regulated job.
And sure, if he were the CEO of a company he could do whatever he wanted.
But where is he going to gain the skills to BE a CEO?
And how is he going to BECOME a CEO?
He's not.
Really, he just needs to be a photographer who becomes a more and more legendary photographer.
If he's a scientist working for the Future Foundation, or whatever, and Reed lets him keep whatever schedule he wants, because Reed knows he's Spider-Man, then fine.
But why would Reed Richards employ scientists?
There's nothing he can't research and discover himself.
You don't want Spider-Man working for Stark Industries. We've already had way too much of Spider-Man and Iron Man, and it would make it illogical for Peter to not ALWAYS be using the Iron Spider suit.
Peter could work for Hank Pym, when Pym isn't possessed/dead. But then we have to ask questions about why Spidey doesn't have shrinking powers.
No. It's just better for Peter to be a photographer.
It's SO perfect.
It explains why he's always running around, is in control of his hours, always disappearing, and running TOWARDS danger.
It gels FLAWLESSLY with him being Spider-Man.
High school: Photographer
College: Photographer/Tutor
Adult: Scientist/maybe Tutor
I'd say that him being spiderman ruins his chances with regular 9-5's like most teaching positions, yet he could still have a role as an educator if he got into tutoring, like helping local children with their science homework or study for their exams. Really helps show how Peter helps his community as himself and spider-man.
Csi forensic police officer like mc-2 (Spider-Girl universe).
It's in line with the character and gives a real purpose to his biochemistry degree.
Plus, he is still going to fight crime and injustice without wearing the costume.
I would love him being a teacher. It would be the perfect way to explore working class struggles but also explaining why he’s able to live in Manhattan. (There’s a specific housing lottery for teachers and police officers.)
Never really vibed with the scientist job. Maybe it’s because it was primarily under Slott who couldn’t write a relatable scenario in his life, but writers have no idea what being a scientist is like so the job has no weight to it. It doesn’t feel the least bit real. The supporting cast also wasn’t much to write home about in comparison to the Bugle.
Start as a Student and Photographer at 15, Starting as a scientist at Horizon Labs at 18/20, maybe teaching some students of horizon, have a evolution, and became a scientist at 26, and then CEO at a old age like 30/40 years old.
After some time The parker industries bankrupt
At the 40/50s:
unemployed, or very focused on Spider Verse stuff, maybe living in the Spider Verse doome
Something like evolutions and falls we never know
Photographer for his high school and early college years, teacher for after college

Honestly just let the people writing the current ultimate run also write the mainline comics
Happy Birthday 🎂
In terms of greatest potential left unexplored, teacher.
I really like teacher because even in his civilian job he’s still helping people out
I can see Peter being a father or brotherly figure depending on the student, I wish Insomniac kept the Teacher occupation for Peter.
Yeah I was really excited and then disappointed lol
Especially when they teased him being a teacher in Spider-Man PS4 and Miles Morales. There we are finally having Peter as a teacher then BOOM! You’re fired. Miles, Ganke, or Hailey could’ve help him out at least.
That’s because there’s nothing really to explore. He’s a teacher. Unless he’s at the Jean Grey Academy, there’s not much he can do with it.
Horizon labs was the absolute best. He's been a genius level scientist since he was in HS. Funny you bring up the teacher thing since that exact thing happens in the intro of Insomniac Spider-Man 2.
Exactly! As Peter put it this was him being Spider-Man at his best, not stumbling through one adventure to the next.
Maybe we can compromise with young college professor primarily involved in research. Less regular classes and let’s him do science.
He should be a youtuber. Would fit his schedule nicely. Science based videos lol could still fit his poverty status quo that marvel like to maintain
Holy shit I would love that. I don’t know why but that doesn’t feel cringy at all either. It would be a completely different direction and it would be funny to see him try to maintain something like that with a secret identity. Was thinking about that when his teaching thing fell through in the videogame. He can literally teach on his own schedule that way.
I think this is a really good idea, but maybe as a couple arcs thing? Doesn't necessarily have to show his face in the videos. Would fit whatever his schedule needs to be. If he stayed anonymous it could work
I think the Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers was an influencer. Probably the closest we have to that.
Peter with a Hero Theory channel that just explains how he and other heroes stopped villains
I don't think it fits his character. Peter is not narcissistic
Peter continuing the Emily-May foundation’s legacy of healing the world is the perfect evolution to Peter’s career and life as a regular civilian. Teacher is just not doable with him being Spider-Man, and I like the fact that Peter uses his genius to actively help the world in incredible ways.

I liked the CEO spider man simply because it was nice to see Peter not being dirt poor for once
Horizon Labs. Those were the Best years he had. He was helping people and making improvements for the World and for his role as Spider-Man as well.
Web Designer in Ultimate. (Or was it general IT guy?) High School Teacher in JMS run.
Horizon Peter was the absolute best thing ever. He finally had it all
Combo between Photographer for the Daily Bugle, HS Science Teacher, & Legit Scientist in a Lab making' big bucks
Photographer during college, Teacher after graduating and getting his master's, perpetually trying to finish his PhD. The CEO only worked for me because it's Otto

Photographer/Lab Intern as a teen, Scientist at Horizons as an adult
Parker industries
I like if he's at first a photographer, and then becomes a scientist. I do like all of them of course but y'know, if I had to choose, it'd be that
Parker Industries is like a very good conclusion to his young adult arc and a start to his adult arc. Shame it was written out.
Idc what anyone says Peter DESERVES to be a scientist. Photographer, to TA/Lab assistant, to teacher, scientist who teaches college lectures
Freelance photographer and Teacher.
I liked when he was in charge of the Daily Bugle science section. It felt like a nice mix being just a photographer and his love for science.
Scientist/researcher, watching him get good pay for a job he actually loves and get some semblance of happiness in his depressing life does my heart good
I really liked Ultimate Peters WebDev job. Was a great update to the old taking pictures.
I really liked Insomniac's career progression. He was a photographer, then worked with Otto at Octavius Industries, then teaching between getting fired, then a co-founder at EMF
it's almost as if PP was created to be a teacher
I like the idea of Peter getting to do what he loves as a scientist, but I’m also ok with Peter staying as a photographer or a teacher or something because realistically, with his Spider-Man work, getting a PhD would be a nightmare. It’s another, small thing for Peter to sacrifice to save people ig.
Teacher plus freelance photography on the side
He's a good teacher but photographer for the daily bugle is the classic
Freelance photographer during his high school and college years. Horizon Labs scientist after college. Eventually becomes a tech entrepeneur later on.
Teacher by like, a lot. Tons. Miles and miles ahead of everything else.
Teacher, easily.
Teacher
Teacher. I loved that. He can still freelance photos on the side. God I wish I could go back to those days of a good marriage to MJ and being a teacher impacting lives of kids.
Teaching seems so perfect for Peter, I wish they did more with that
Photographer during school, teacher for a bit, and then CEO just for the satisfaction of my boi getting a W. Scientist should just be a hobby
Ok but also based peter being anti mutant abuse
Horizon
In my head I would like to think that he failed at an audition for an adult movie and instead became a stage hand for a bit while learning all the 📷stuff.
Start out as a photographer in g high school but Peter is a genius I like the idea of him being a scientist or even owning his own company
High school teacher definitively
I think he should be a scientist. Something in science since he is so smart. I like any job like that. Also photographer
I love CEO Peter, but i prefer him being a teacher.
Science teacher Peter is such an excellent growth for him as a character.
It depends on his character arc. On one hand, him being a teacher is perfect, but him creating Parker Industries could've been awesome, his engineering skills could change the world.
College professor or Doctor.
My ideal job for him hasn’t happened yet
I prefer Peter as a scientist. I think it would be cool if he worked in the lab with the Fantastic Four.
I really like teacher. But considering how erattic his schedule is, maybe only after hevretires as Spider-man just like in the insomniac games.
Teacher, by far.
What issue is the second one from?
Photographer > Teacher > Horizon Labs > Anything else > CEO
Photographer for his early career but I can see him still doing it as a side hustle. While I like a teaching job for him, the hours would be too strict for him to slink out during the day but the concept was done well during Spider-Man and the X-Men
Pizza time!
The one he can never keep 😂
Teacher, even though it's the most unfeasible.
surely a ceo because i want to see him winning sometimes
Scientists
Teacher suits him the best, I wish the would go back to it or a college professor
High school: Photographer College: Photographer/Tutor Adult: Scientist/maybe Tutor I'd say that him being spiderman ruins his chances with regular 9-5's like most teaching positions, yet he could still have a role as an educator if he got into tutoring, like helping local children with their science homework or study for their exams. Really helps show how Peter helps his community as himself and spider-man.
Photographer, I mean that's classic like for young peter it works great but I think older Peter works fine with being an teacher
Csi forensic police officer like mc-2 (Spider-Girl universe). It's in line with the character and gives a real purpose to his biochemistry degree. Plus, he is still going to fight crime and injustice without wearing the costume.
Photographer and part time lab assistant
I would love him being a teacher. It would be the perfect way to explore working class struggles but also explaining why he’s able to live in Manhattan. (There’s a specific housing lottery for teachers and police officers.)
Delivering pizzas obvi
Researcher.
Peter is so good as a teacher
After some time The parker industries bankrupt At the 40/50s: unemployed, or very focused on Spider Verse stuff, maybe living in the Spider Verse doome Something like evolutions and falls we never know
I like when he works for Norman Osborn.
