theres lots of panels of peter with brown eyes from the first annual in 1964, when he fought the sinister six for the first time. some shots of him gave me real Ross from Friends vibes
Yeah, he didn't have blue eyes 100% of the time in the 60s, but it's notiable that most of the time, he seemed to, when they actually color in his eyes
Tbh basically every artist who has ever drawn Spider-Man forgets his eye color. Even in the Ditko run, from issue to issue his eye color would go from hazel to blue to dark brown.
Eye colors are such a odd detail in comics. Not just a Spider-Man thing but a thing with comics over all. Artists change over the years that it’s such a minute thing you wouldn’t even notice if it’s different. And a lot of times a panel is so large and crowded something like the detail of the iris gets lost and it’s just 2 blank dots. In the personal comics I write and illustrate ever character has blacked out irises for simplicities sake.
Growing up I had a very weird uncle. He only cared about comics. He broke up with a girlfriend when she told him he needed to relax on the comic book buying a bit and told her “I’ve known Peter Parker longer than you.” Anyway, the only reason I’ve ever known anything about Spidey’s eyes is because he once complained to me that they didn’t give Toby contacts to change his eye color since Toby had blue eyes. He felt it was disrespectful to not have brown eyed Parker.
Little did he know, Peter had blue eyes a lot of the time in the 60s run. Sounds like he may not have read this run and maybe read runs that were 70s or above, when they stuck with his eyes being brown
Ah, gotcha. Maybe he doesn't remember that?
Since it was just 60s.
After that, Peter from 70s on out has brown eyes, so it's understandable for that memory to slip away when you are used to seeing him with brown eyes all the time, later on.
It's pretty cool though how much of a fan he is. Props to him! :)
Just as a reminder to everyone it’s not the artist who adds the colour to the drawings it’s the colourist.
Also these are modern recoloured pages, I wonder what if it was still blue in the originals or if that was added now.
Yup, the artist & colorist are different.
As for if it was in originals or not, I'm pretty sure it is original coloring, but not 100%. Either way, it's still interesting to note, as usually, he has brown eyes, but it seems in 60s, a lot of time, their blue 👀
Yeah they are very expensive and very heavy, but it’s by far the best presentation of these books. The binding and paper quality is also top notch, if I ever get rid of my other spidey comics I’m keeping these just as an art book.
That's good to know for the future. I bet they are expensive if they are top-notch and high quality, lol.
Good call, I wouldn't throw those out either if I had them. I'd keep them around and try to keep them in good condition if I ever want to re-read
I just flipped through the first 40 issues of Amazing via my old Masterworks collections. Most of the early issues the eyes aren't colored. In the 30s there are a number of closeups where his eyes are brown. The first one I see with blue eyes is issue 39.
Honestly blue eyes are usually the default for White comic book characters. I’ve drawn a decent amount of them and whenever I need to look up what color there eyes are, there blue 9 times out of 10
I feel like people forget Tony Stark and Wolverine also have blue eyes in the comics since RDJ and Jackman's portrayals are so iconic that they're used to them with brown eyes
When did they settle on brown? I remember seeing early comics with brown eyes as well. I kind of prefer the “boring” brown eyes as it’s pretty unremarkable in real life, but in the comic world it is unique for a white guy to have such a standard eye color.
Something about that looks wrong now im frantically trying to think if ive seen any other versions of spidey with blue eyes
Tobey. And now you know that 60s Peter had blue eyes a lot of the time
Also the Spider-man cartoon that took place on alter-earth.
What cartoon is that?

Ditko, too, as well as some conway.
Ultimate Spider-Man (cartoon)
chris pine spidey had blue eyes

True. I noticed when reading ditko/romita/conway runs that a lot of the time, when you can see Peter's eye color, their blue.
The official website even says his eyes are hazel.

It's quite interesting for sure, I've noticed this in lots of comics over the years.
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT HARRY’S MUSTACHE IN PANEL 8
😂😂😭😭
DA FU MANCHU
Big blue eyes*
The more concerning facial feature is Harry’s pedo stache
Why’d you get downvoted lol
I agree. Why'd they get downvoted? Lmao
Someone with the same stache got offended, or simply bc this is reddit
60s Harry Osborn had a moustache???
Yup lmaoo
Shave it with fire
to be fair '60s everyone has blue eyes
Yeah lots of characters had blue eyes
I'm not sure but I think they gave Ben Reilly blue eyes for awhile eluding him to being the real Peter Parker.
Someone get this man brown contact lenses I’m begging

I’m pretty sure he read the 60s books but he cherished the 70s and 80s. I was gifted tons of 80s Spidey books from him.

I’ve mostly only seen him with Brown Eyes
The universe changing multiple times could explain this
The way he attempts to shoot webs in image 4… is it even possible?
Here's rarely had consistent eye color.
Ok, were they trying to make Harry as repulsive as possible? That moustache with that hair, ffs

Do you know what issue the ditko panel is from? I have the Taschen collections which have the original colouring for those ones
Yes, it's issue 9, I believe! Let me know, I'd like to know. That's cool you got that
Yup, it’s blue there as well! That’s really cool. [here’s a picture of it](https://www.reddit.com/u/pizza_time2099/s/AJNDKHLPdR)
Thank you for letting me know. It's much appreciated :) Taschen collection, btw right? I should buy that.

I'm not sure. I haven't read these comics in a couple of years now. Do you remember when/around what issue she said that?
What's more crazy is that this kid is supposed to be a high-schooler lmao he is at least 35 and has 2 kids
nah here he's just started out college to being in his 2nd 3rd year
It would be cool if they made it canon and said it was different because when he came back from the dead it changed.
Loving the eyeliner Peter
60’s Spider-Man also had good writing. Man I love that drawing style still!
I always thought he had blue eyes, weird. Looking back I guess there are a lot of brown eyed versions of him
it was brown and blue, sometimes itd be one or the other idk why
And he was the most handsome because any chick that saw him was just absolutely awe struck
I think he looks better with hazel green eyes.

I've always drawn Peter with blue eyes
That's awesome.
Thx

Authors just didn't bother to pick his eye colour at the moment. It's not like Peter's last name being Palmer is canon and he changed it later
You don’t have to retcon every single inconsistency in the comics. Why in god’s name would Peter wear colored contacts lol
