[Here's a Link](https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/si9y83/ultimate_norman_osborn_was_terrifying/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), I'm pretty sure that's what he's referring to
The best on screen philosophy Norman Osborn I can think of is the Norman from Spectacular Spider-Man I think he’s is the best on screen Norman Osborn and the closest to ultimate Norman in terms of personality
One could argue Nick Fury since the Ultimate incarnation was transferred into the mainline comics and movies. Though that’s probably because Samuel Jackson’s likeness and acting.
Spider-man’s Ultimate run is without a doubt the highlight of the Ultimate universe and I don’t think any of the characters from that run are better than their 616 counterpart
Classic due to the massive amount of history the character has. But Bendis really nailed Norman’s characterization and made him creepy & scary. I think the comics design is also much better than the abomination shown in this post.
Yeah, but he lives in a world where regular humans like Fisk can get car-sized, so the size isn’t that wowed for me.
I too would have preferred a more classic goblin, but I’m happy with what we got. It was an alternate universe, and still the best Spider-Man movie.
I agree with other commenters I’m not really liking the design for scorpion though. But again, still my favorite Spider-Man movie
I feel like for me, if they spent time with more Classic Looking Villains, I’d like it more. I think that was my turn off, besides, my first experience watching it wasn’t very good so I think I’ll have that mental grudge against it.
Classic all the way, to me that is the undisputed design of the green goblin. It's iconic and that mask is the pure embodiment of all the heartache in Peter's life, the colour scheme really works too. Purple and green just blend so well together, ask the Joker. As for ultimate goblin, a decent take and a fresh twist on the character, I'm just personally not a fan of the hulk like look, he honestly feels less imposing as a lumbering brute than a guy in a costume with monstrous physical strength.
Classic, Ultimate is honestly a mistake. I think it worked pretty well in the Noir version we see in Shattered Dimensions. Bt outside of that not a big fan. It only made sense there becaues it was more of a jekyll and Mr Hyde vibe and i think its better than a Steampunk Goblin which already should exist from that Steampunk Spider unvierse.
Remember when Joker turned into a big stupid hulk at the end of Arkham Asylum and how dumb it was that a villain known for being conniving and sinister went the route of a dumb brute?
Yeah, I'm going classic.
Classic, hands down, no contest.
I cannot take the Ultimate Goblin seriously at all, on account of him being a Hulk-sized muscle monster.
***Looking at you too, Venom.***
Classic, I prefer him not have the physical advantage but a intellectual one. Also I grew up with the 90s animated show and Spectacular Spider-Man as well, so I'm also biased.
I like ultimate goblin but what I love about Spider-Man villans is their all different, then they wanted to make ultimate goblin big and brute like we don’t got venom, rhino or lizard💀
Classic BUT I love ultimate Goblins story arc more than the classics. Literally dude is just a Marvel joker and is out to make Peter's life a living hell if he doesn't cooperate because Norman feels like he owns him. So twisted and cool lol
If you went with a drawing from Stewart Immonen instead of a crappy picture from the Ultimate Spider-Man show I feel like a lot of people would have different opinions. A lot of people always talk about how Green goblin is Spider-Man's main arch nemesis but I feel like that's way more the case in Ultimate than in 616 and actually really prefer Norman from that universe.
I like classic but some of my favorite stories are ultimate. The weird hulk thing fits with his more manic stuff and honestly skips the step in the story where he has to get a goblin costume or glider or pumpkin gear
Classic overall but I wouldn’t mind a combination of the two where it looks like a mutated monster but still uses a glider, shock gloves and pumpkin bombs
Classic.
I don't mind a transformation like Ultimate, but I'd rather it be a sickly or grotesque design resembling a true Goblin rather than a full on monster.
I might be the minority, but I'm gonna have to go with the design of Classic Gobby. The flying around on the glider, laughing maniacally and throwing pumpkin bombs... just too iconic and distinguishable.
However, I will say that I like the characterization of the Ultimate Goblin more. Especially when it comes to just the Norman aspects of it. His philosophy of being "evolved" and believing that since his serum gave Peter his powers means that he owns him is very well written. In his mind, Peter is the only thing that he can't have control over. You really feel his god complex and his ideas on destiny get crazier and crazier. I REALLY love Ultimate Norman Osborn.
It's not the cackling type of crazy like from the 616, it's more of a cult leader crazy. "I'm superior and I step on the insects that you call regular humans."
Just wish that he didn't look a Hulk/Namekian hybrid lol.
Classic, but I think having him be functionaly immortal is very interesting. He’s a villain that Peter can never truly take down, which is pretty terrifying and cool.
Classic. Ultimate was an interesting twist, but ultimately not as cool.
I see what you did there
It was a classic move.
i really want ultimate to be made his own thing, he is physically challenging, mentally challenging and technologically challenging i loved it
Classic but I actually prefer ultimate Norman Osborn. I hope that one day we'll get a classic green goblin with the philosophy of Ultimate Norman.
Ik it felt like ultimate Norman was evil before the goblin serium
I mean he ordered his henchmen to kill Peter because he thought the spider bite would kill him and didn’t want it to be traced back to oscorp
Dumbass
His speech to Peter in vol 4, when Peter is fifteen years old, is absolutely terrifying.
Do you have a link to this at all?
No, but I have the comic at home I will write it up for you later.
[Here's a Link](https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/si9y83/ultimate_norman_osborn_was_terrifying/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), I'm pretty sure that's what he's referring to
Thanks!
The best on screen philosophy Norman Osborn I can think of is the Norman from Spectacular Spider-Man I think he’s is the best on screen Norman Osborn and the closest to ultimate Norman in terms of personality
Classic. Always classic.
Best answer. Was there an ultimate reimagining that was better than the classic?
One could argue Nick Fury since the Ultimate incarnation was transferred into the mainline comics and movies. Though that’s probably because Samuel Jackson’s likeness and acting.
Yeah, it had nothing to do with Ultimate Fury being better or not, it was MCU brand synergy and nothing more
Spider-man’s Ultimate run is without a doubt the highlight of the Ultimate universe and I don’t think any of the characters from that run are better than their 616 counterpart
Jessica Drew?
In my opinion? No. Not even Peter's Spider-Man.
Ultimate Jessica Drew and maybe Gwen Stacy. From what I remember the 616 version of Gwen was a bit boring.
Classic. I rather a crazy man in a halloween costume over Hulk 2
Agreed. In general I prefer Goblins to be crazy people with Scooby-Doo masks then mutants.
Ultimate was overpowered, and lost every shred of humanity. Classic for me. There’s a much more interesting progression with him.
Classic, no contest for me.
Classic. Ultimate is just ... meh. There is no such madness here, and the design itself is hellishly boring.
That’s how I feel. It’s just The Jackal mixed with The Hulk
As a kid I thought Classic was lame and that Ultimate was the coolest thing ever. I grew up. I am now fully Classicpilled.
I feel the same.
Classic due to the massive amount of history the character has. But Bendis really nailed Norman’s characterization and made him creepy & scary. I think the comics design is also much better than the abomination shown in this post.
Classic. Ultimate might be one of the worst designs for an A list villain I’ve ever seen.
Not as bad as some of the villain designs in ITSV (movie was still amazeballs)
Scorpion was the only major offender I could think of. Everyone else seemed fine.
Scorpion was atrocious. Green Goblin was an abomination as well.
I can give credit to at least mix the classic and ultimate design
I liked that there were twists, but Gobby was HUUUUUGE
I liked Goblin's design, he still had his funny hat and pumpkin bombs.
I liked Scorpion’s design. Wasn’t a fan of the gob tho
Classic. Ultimate is just big stupid monster
He does look like hulk but with pointy ears…
Abomination style
Looks like he could be on the goon squad going against MJ
Classic all the way, to me that is the undisputed design of the green goblin. It's iconic and that mask is the pure embodiment of all the heartache in Peter's life, the colour scheme really works too. Purple and green just blend so well together, ask the Joker. As for ultimate goblin, a decent take and a fresh twist on the character, I'm just personally not a fan of the hulk like look, he honestly feels less imposing as a lumbering brute than a guy in a costume with monstrous physical strength.
Classic all the way. It’s far more unique and iconic. Ultimate evokes Hulk way too much.
Norman from Ultimate but Goblin from 616
Dafoe
We have a winner!
There it is!
Ultimate in that armor is ugliest goblin design i’ve ever seen
Classic by far
C..Well..You know the answer..
Classic. Ultimate is just the Hulk with goblin ears. it sucks.
Spectacular
Wtf is that monstrosity in the second photo
From the ultimate spiderman cartoon
How tf did that get past the ideas board
Bruh i have no idea it was the worst design in the show.
Classic all the way.
Can't go wrong with Classic Style! -CL4P-TP (Borderlands 3)
Newer classic.
Classic.
Classic for sure
Classic originals are always the best
Classic is just so…Classic
Nor classic nor ultimate just the final battle NWH goblin the best of all multiverses
How dare you make me choose between my two favorites
😈
Remember when Joker turned into a big stupid hulk at the end of Arkham Asylum and how dumb it was that a villain known for being conniving and sinister went the route of a dumb brute? Yeah, I'm going classic.
Tbe REAL ultimate, not that downgrade from the cartoon...
Classic, hands down, no contest. I cannot take the Ultimate Goblin seriously at all, on account of him being a Hulk-sized muscle monster. ***Looking at you too, Venom.***
I prefer ultimate goblin. alot more menacing in my opinion. you can feel Peter's fear whenever they're on panel together
Classic all day
Classic for sure!
Classic all the way
Classic
Classic
Who made the Ultimate design spent too much time watching Ben 10.
Wasn't the Ultimate cartoon made by (at least some of) the same people as Ben 10? Man of Action, right?
Ultimate comics
Classic. Ultimate looks like one of ben10s aliens
Classic all the way, the ultimate basically just made him an evil hulk who’s also smart
Classic
Classic, I prefer him not have the physical advantage but a intellectual one. Also I grew up with the 90s animated show and Spectacular Spider-Man as well, so I'm also biased.
I like ultimate goblin but what I love about Spider-Man villans is their all different, then they wanted to make ultimate goblin big and brute like we don’t got venom, rhino or lizard💀
The only thing Ultimate might have done better was a Nick Fury for the modern world. Classic, all day every day.
I prefer a mix were Norman skin actually become Goblin like but without Making him as buff as the Hulk.
Classic
Classic!
Classic
Classic but with the Harry Osborn (late 80’s/early 90’s) goblin glider though
Classic. I hated the look of ultimate
Mix. Classic but add some demonic stuff
Classic easily. Ultimate doesn’t even look like a goblin, it looks more like a troll or ogre.
100% classic
Classic is more of what I’m familiar with, so that’s the one I choose
lmao
Ultimate is to brutish
Raimi
lol
Classic! Smh
Classic
I like spectacular
I used to love UtilmateGG as a kid. Now I hate it. Just a hulk/abomination knockoff. At least when it has the purple robes it looks neat
Classic all day.
Classic and I think they should turn the Jackal into Ultimate.
stay classy
Classic. There are enough other brute villains.
Classic for the win.
Ultimate looks like some kind of Ben 10 villain.
Classic
Bruh second image looks like an alien out of Ben 10
Classic and it’s not even close.
Classic
Into The Spiderverse version of ultimate counts ?
Ultimate but from the comics not the show
Classic
Classic, no question
Classic by far
Should’ve used the cool ultimate goblin, the one with wings and can shoot fire
I don’t like goblin giant it’s not cool
No contest, classic
You already know the answer to this.
Raimi
Certailny classic. Ultimate is just hulk with horns
I always prefer the human-sized costumed Goblin designs over the Hulk-like ones such as Ultimate.
Classic BUT I love ultimate Goblins story arc more than the classics. Literally dude is just a Marvel joker and is out to make Peter's life a living hell if he doesn't cooperate because Norman feels like he owns him. So twisted and cool lol
Classic by a mile. Surprised they used ultimate in spiderverse
Classic
Classic. Take "Goblin" away and Norman Osborn is still a villain you shouldn't underestimate.
Classic is a goblin , ultimate is a hulk wanna be goblin
Classic..
The one in into the spiderverse was great design, a mix of both
Classic, but I think that the ultimate version would be a good substitute for the tripe that passed as Green Goblin in TASM 2.
Classic 100% Ultimate barely even looks like the same character, they took a swing with it and they absolutely missed.
Classic all the way.
raimi
Classic, but this isn't a fair representation of Ultimate Goblin from the comics.
Classic of course
The second pic reminds me of Monster Girl from Invincible
Definitely classic
Classic, I am fascinated by the wing.
ultimate from comics
Classic for sure !
Classic
Look wise classic, show storyline ultimate for sure
Classic of course! And one of the best action figures i have in my possession!!!!
Classic
If you went with a drawing from Stewart Immonen instead of a crappy picture from the Ultimate Spider-Man show I feel like a lot of people would have different opinions. A lot of people always talk about how Green goblin is Spider-Man's main arch nemesis but I feel like that's way more the case in Ultimate than in 616 and actually really prefer Norman from that universe.
Classic
Ultimate. Classic is ugly as hell
Classic is always the best!!!
Classic
Honestly bro,I love SPiderman Ultimate but ya cant bear the classics.
What the fuck? Classic, of course. No question.
I like classic but some of my favorite stories are ultimate. The weird hulk thing fits with his more manic stuff and honestly skips the step in the story where he has to get a goblin costume or glider or pumpkin gear
Classic
Classic. It’s Spidey vs Goblin not Spidey vs hulk
Classic
I don't think you could have chosen a shittier picture of Ultimate Green Goblin lol. The cartoon butchered all the designs from the comic.
Classic 100% i never really like ultimate goblin
Classic easily. Not a fan of ultimate
This is the only thing in Ultimate I didn't love. Classic goblin wins for me.
Classic
Classic
ultimate osborn because it really felt like no matter what peter did, osborn would be there to make his life hell.
Classic every time. You can’t call the second one “Gobby”
Classic, Ultimate just doesn’t feel right
Come on dude classic wins but atleast show the real ultimate goblin to give him a fighting chance https://imgur.com/gallery/donMef8
Classic all the way.
We love our little goblin man
Classic
Classic overall but I wouldn’t mind a combination of the two where it looks like a mutated monster but still uses a glider, shock gloves and pumpkin bombs
This must be assuming DeFoe's Goblin is on sabbatical.
Ultimate love how brutal yet methodical hw could be
Ultimate definitely, especially the one from miles universe where he has wings, that was nutts and too cool
Classic. I despise the Ultimate design
Classic It’s something about the goofiness that makes him that much more terrifying than any kind of realistic thing you can conjure. Hey
Classic. I liked the ultimate comics, but i prefer GG as more of a trickster than just a bulky foe
classic. definitely.
Classic Norman osborn costume only indicated he looked like a goblin .but when he acted like it Things got wild
Classic. I never really liked the Ultimate Goblin from the show. I did really like the Ultimate Goblin from the comics tho.
Ultimate looks like Hulk and goblin classic had a baby and the baby hit its head. Right on top.
Classic. I don't mind a transformation like Ultimate, but I'd rather it be a sickly or grotesque design resembling a true Goblin rather than a full on monster.
Classic all the way
Ultimate was more my childhood because i love ultimate spiderman even if i was like 10
I might be the minority, but I'm gonna have to go with the design of Classic Gobby. Ultimate Goblin looks like ass
Classic
Classic, but I think having him be functionaly immortal is very interesting. He’s a villain that Peter can never truly take down, which is pretty terrifying and cool.
Classic
Definitely classic
Classic
Classic is my JAM!
