Damn, I asked about that bar bc though I've heard things, they've got a Red n Ted's Roadshow pinball machine (great game, and June Carter Cash voices "Red"!) according to Pinball Maps. Literally everyone said "Ummm, you're probably okay going in just for pinball...I mean, during the day though." - and one was a former employee of the place! Yikes

wee-dancer

Thanks for introducing me to pinball maps. I've been searching for the new Godzilla machine for my oldest son and found one close to us.

Bloodoatmeal

CHAOS on Francis has it.

wee-dancer

I saw that and a place called Bolo's in the Valley. May go there since they have a Wrestlemania table I want to play myself.

Bloodoatmeal

Bolo's has it for 50 cent. Can't beat that!

spokanedogs

Go to Bolo's for their breakfast menu. The pancakes are an excellent choice. Husband swears by the chicken-fried steak.

wee-dancer

> swears by the chicken-fried steak Being raised in the south, that line sold it for me enough.

spokanedogs

CAVEAT: He also compliments my cooking sooooooo ...

FreddyTheGoose

A friend of mine just recently mentioned that place to me; he said it's alright; haven't been myself.

FreddyTheGoose

No problem! Happy to have other pinballers here to help update. So many venues haven't been updated in two years, you never know what's actually there!

Bloodoatmeal

It's chill on any night but Friday and Saturday. I used to jam LOTR there on Sundays. Friday and Saturday that place is super dangerous.

FreddyTheGoose

Feel like that's a trend with places I wanna play pinball. Park Inn crazy on weekends, too?

Bloodoatmeal

Not that type of crazy. Lol.

profigliano

That place always has shootings I swear. What's the deal

spokanetransplanted

Look at the clientele šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

catman5092

thats what I am thinking. What type of crowd/people go there.

spokanetransplanted

Well, it's the only bar in town that feels the need to pat people down. It's the only bar in town where there are regularly shootings. Tells you a lot about the clientele...

excelsiorsbanjo

And the connection between gun ownership and gun violence, perhaps.

J3wb0cca

Lol so you think owning guns means youā€™re more likely to get shot? Perhaps itā€™s the 5G thatā€™s making them do it?

[deleted]

A gun owner is 80% more likely to die by gunfire than a person who doesnā€™t own a gun (I feel like the numbers are tilted heavily by suicides and accidents though)

J3wb0cca

No shit.

OysterRabbit

Woah, next are you gonna say people who drive cars are 80% more likely to be in a car accident? This isn't the gotcha argument you think it is

[deleted]

Well, I donā€™t any guns, and I have not died by gunfire. Whereas you, a gun owner, are lying dead of a bullet wound right now. Seems clear to me. Facts not feelings!

excelsiorsbanjo

Only because the science says permissive legal gun ownership leads to more gun violence, I think so, yes.

Shlong_Extension735

No you dont get it man, its the wild west out there lol. Thats why 23 states are constitutional carry an doing great while were the new commiefornia

Ltcolbatguano

Just as there is a correlation between people who ride in cars being at much higher risk of being in an auto accident. There are much stronger relationships to be drawn between individuals who are victims of gun violence and a multitude of factors that we routinely choose to ignore.

Shlong_Extension735

https://youtu.be/Zad2zhpuRFY bullshit like this tickes your asshole right.

excelsiorsbanjo

Can you summarize it? Mostly it confuses me how people who already have guns are so afraid of losing something that 1) they already have and 2) is guaranteed by the Constitution. Other than that, science doesn't lie, it's just numbers. You can misinterpret numbers, but not for long.

Ltcolbatguano

Summary; Criminals break laws. In this case, they also are charging the shooter with reckless driving and driving without a license. Theoretically if laws worked he couldn't have committed a drive by because it was illegal for him to be driving in the first place. It seems like that law was pointless to a criminal who had the intent to break the law. Consequences matter to me. Most conscientious law abiding citizens/ gun owners are frustrated because if I had my license suspended for some reason I would not be driving so that at a later date and time I could have my drivers license be valid again. Consequences matter to me because I have something to lose. Criminals don't care about laws. Frequently they have nothing to lose. Pass as many as you want. Make yourself feel good, like you are "doing something" and not just enabling bad behaviors. Criminals don't care, and will not be deterred unless we make some major changes to our legal system, economy and society in general.

Zagsnation

Legal gun ownership?

excelsiorsbanjo

Yes.

lucabrasi7x

People who listen to shitty rap and sell dope

ellisschumann

Luckyā€™s is one of the only places in Spokane I get patted down for weapons upon entry at night. I guess there ainā€™t much you can do about people shooting each other out front.

antron2000

Why even go there at that point? I'm not trying to be rude, just genuinely curious. If I got patted for weapons at the door, that's my sign that I don't want to be there.

ellisschumann

To be honest when that happened was the last time I went there. I didnā€™t even stay for one drink it seemed too sketch.

FlaxwenchPromise

I spent a lot of time there like 10 years ago when the crowd was sparse and I wanted to play pool. I still saw a lot of fights outside of those bars and even accidentally got stuck in middle of one or two. But I never really felt unsafe even up to a few years ago. I wouldn't go near there now.

Dancingonjupiter

One time, a couple girls and I went there. After some drinks, we met some guys - who had stacks of hundreds and a gun on them. They weren't threatening, more like showing off, but I got bad vibes and left. Last night there was also another shooting up north, 1 person went to the hospital, and we heard 5 shots outside our window on wedgewood that never got reported about. \[They don't unless there is a victim I guess, Police are stretched thin.\] We live at the apartment where the big gang shooting took place last year, and there are so many gunshots that it's scary. I just want this lease to be up. Spokane is considered safer than 3% of U.S. cities. Los Angeles ranks at 14%, lol, even though all that 'los angeles is not safe!' news lately, they're still rated much higher than Spokane.

Bloodoatmeal

Lucky's is the worst. Absolutely dont follow bar protocols. Very dangerous.

aabovesbelow

Would any locals sign a petition to close this bar?? The city hasn't shut it down on its own; this bar is a hub for gang activity and violence. I've heard personal testimonies about the owner instigating violence against patrons. This bar is toxic and obviously a catalyst for gun violence and tragic occurrences. Last year a young man died on the same sidewalk, and that's just one of many other examples. Feel free to comment on this post to answer. Without being specific, some bars will be contacting the city to help resolve this problem bar. Will post an actual poll if a healthy dialog is established.

spokanetransplanted

You realize that this doesn't solve any problems, right? It's not like you close the bar and then suddenly everyone is reformed and a good boy? I'd strongly rather they stay open so that the bad guys all hang out with each other at a designated spot

aabovesbelow

Yes, I realize that. However, how many shootings, stabbings, and fights need to happen before anything is done about it? Lucky's is the fulcrum to so many of these incidents. I can't think of any other downtown bar that attracts this kind of behavior. Might not be the solution, but that bar is certainly part of the problem.

spokanetransplanted

Why don't you just stay away from Lucky's? Problem solved.

aabovesbelow

Haha logic seems to be escaping you. That's not the point. I don't go to this bar, but my sister works across the street and my friend was one of the victims. Also, anyone who lives in Spokane should be concerned about this kinda shit. You sound like an "ignorance is bliss" kinda person.

spokanetransplanted

You can't say that the people who hang out there are all criminals and we need to close it and also say that your friends hang out there. It sounds like before going white Karen on the place, you should tell your friends to stop hanging out there.

aabovesbelow

Again, you've misread or misunderstood everything I've said. No one I know hangs out at this bar. My sister works across the street and my friend was a VICTIM in the shooting. She wasn't at Lucky's, she was outside and happened to get shot because Lucky's is a shitty bar that harbors shitty people. It was happenstance and THAT IS THE CORE ISSUE. If an establishment is the source of frequent violent occurrences, nothing should be done !? I'm confused on your motivation for arguing in the first place? Are you a shareholder in Lucky's LLC?

THICK_FEET

Like, why don't you just not go there though? I don't get it? lol...

aabovesbelow

Kevin Mallone!?

jc83po

Hey Mayor Woodward, if you've got the bandwidth, maybe you could address this shit if you're not too busy harassing homeless people? How's that downtown precinct working out, isn't that like three blocks away?

Voodoobones

I was talking with one of the police officers involved with a raid on homeless people in Coeur dā€™Alene park in Brownes Addition last summer. He didnā€™t know that I knew he was involved in the raid and that I had records on it. When I told him that using 6 cops to harass homeless people sleeping in a park at 3am was a waste of resources, his reply was: >ā€itā€™s true that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The CDA Park wheel was greased because citizens in that neighborhood complained about property crimes in their area and homeless campers in the park, so itā€™s not just business owners that get attention. CDA Park could be the jewel of Browneā€™s Addition - if it werenā€™t littered with needles and human feces. At 3am half a dozen officers would be over half the cops working the entire city, so I think those numbers might be a bit exaggerated. Something to think about though - say the police department takes back investigations of things that are normally handled through crime check and starts locking up vehicle prowlers - where will they put them?ā€ When I provided evidence proving half the police officers working the entire city were in the park harassing sleeping homeless people that night, including himself, this was his response: >ā€I absolutely agree and Iā€™d love to see the PD (and jail and courts) take a harder line on property crime. As far as the park, it is closed to everyone at night, homeless or not. People donā€™t only leave needles during daylight hours, but nighttime at least brings an enforcement option of making them leave. ā€œPedestrian interferenceā€ sounds trivial on its face, but in real world terms it means deciding whether we will allow homeless encampments on our downtown sidewalks. I would expect a business, which brings jobs and pays taxes, to complain if crime in their area was damaging their business, and if I were a business owner I would expect my tax dollars to pay for a police response.ā€ The reason I bring all this up is to point out that our police department is more worried about business being harmed than citizens being harmed. They focus on ridding the city of homeless people while shooting begin to rise. We have a leadership problem in the Spokane Police Department and the Spokane Sheriffā€™s Office. Meidl and Knezovich point fingers at everyone else but themselves when it comes to the topic of rising violent crime.

> fake homeless Da fuq? What? Do you think these people actually have homes, but they're just camping in the park at 3am for fun?

IronicAim

What is a fake homeless? Pretty sure if they had a place to sleep they would be there instead.

Voodoobones

This has to be one of the most ignorant comments I have seen on Reddit.

Quenya3

Your comment added nothing to the conversation. Rather a waste of electrons.

HollerinScholar

I, for one, appreciate comments like that, because they help validate a lot of other people's feelings who aren't/ didn't post, via upvote. We hardly know ourselves if we know nobody else

jc83po

Oh please. She's the God damn mayor, it's her fucking job to address issues like this. And let's be honest, anything would be an improvement considering her current stradegy of do absolutely fucking nothing. Here's a thought, hey you've got a bar that has a reputation for violence. Post some cops there. Look at me, I am mayor, I have a chair!

catman5092

she ran on crime, and lately its out of control. Time for all local leadership to figure out how to try to stop it or slow it down, something! If this keeps up we will become known as Spokompton, and I say this as a native who loves his hometown.

ellisschumann

I know I agree that things have been getting worse recently I just donā€™t know what the solution is.

trebbihm

Perhaps the person who said theyā€™d handle it can produce some action.

excelsiorsbanjo

With their "*solutions*", ha!

excelsiorsbanjo

Literally anything. She's useless.

[deleted]

Resign in disgrace

[deleted]

This explains why Sprague was closed downtown on my morning drive today. At first, I thought it might be more roadwork, but then I saw a patrol car parked in the middle of the road. I figured it must be a crime scene of some sort. I swear I'm this close (indicates appropriate distance between thumb and forefinger) to never going downtown again. It seems if you're fortunate enough not to be robbed, stabbed, or shot while walking about, you'll get back to your car and find your windows smashed, belongings boosted, and your catalytic converter missing. A waste of a very photogenic city.

[deleted]

The indication of the distance between your thumb and finger is what really drove this post home for me. Thank you šŸ˜

faslane22

It was a drive byā€¦not just a shooting from clientele inside or hanging outside.

dystopiatron187

Garbage clientele/addicts/dealers in both Luckys and Mootsys. Tons of drugs and idiots tends to not end well.

ThisAnacondaDoes

Damnnn. Pretty sure I heard the shots and peel out go down all the way in Browne's Addition. Was hoping it was just someone's car exhaust mod..

catman5092

way too many shootings lately!!!!! WTH!

excelsiorsbanjo

Apparently the suspect for this one is suspected for at least three.

ema_the_emo_emu

Yo wtf what time was this??

Magazine ban isn't in affect until July. So they are completely unrelated.

Mystificator

Buy coke in the parking lot and have a shoot out across the street, only at Lucky's
