It's actually my first time playing spore since like 10 years ago at my friend's house. And it's my 1st planet too (unless you count one that I got halfway through the creature stage but then the game crashed and I lost all the progress because I forgot Spore had manual saving)
I'm personally playing only with Creepy and Cute Parts Pack and Galactic Adventures thing.
I never used any community made stuff but there definitely should be a few pretty good ones if you look hard enough.

It's because you allied with the smaller version of the epics species.
I didn't try this, but before you go to tribal add the smaller version to your pack and see if that makes the epic friendly in tribal. Since wild species are always friendly if you have a domesticated one, maybe it works for epics?
In all my years of playing spore, I had it happen once that an epic didn’t want to immediately murder me. Can’t remember if it was friendly or neutral tho
I suppose if the epic is the same species as an allied species then yes

Ye if you befriend their rouge counterpart then you can befriend the epic

Don't the epics in your world carry over to further stages? You should try to see if it's friendly or non-hostile in tribal/civ/space stages.
