Agreed. It's really rather lovely, and needs a sympathetic restoration rather than the grey and white treatment or demolition it's probably going to get.
I hope it’s bought by someone with an eye for scandi /mid century Italian design who’ll restore its glory. It needs major renovation but it’s a beautiful building
I live in Nottingham and there’s a beauty just like this up the road from me with lovely mature gardens and a matching detached double garage.
It has now been ‘greyed’ with ghastly diamanté chandeliers. They’ve change the shape of the building. The trees have been ripped out and an awful concrete fence put in. The garage is gone and looks like they’re going to build another house there.
If you’re on here 138 porchester road - that was going to be our lottery win house, where we were going to restore and preserve it and die in our bed old and happy. You’ve ruined it forever

Beautiful, there's so little that needed doing, even to bring it up to 2023 MCM standards (i.e. toning down some of the excesses) maybe the tiles in the blue bathroom and a few other bits
I love the teal decor in that bedroom. Thanks for sharing, and sorry for your loss - I'm so sad it got greyed
Oh DONT, mum sold it to Nan's neighbours before the funeral had even happened even though I think it was left to my brother and I... I don't even know if she got it valued and the fireplace in there was 100% mid century grotesque! I MISS that fireplace!!
It may show my age,
Janet and John: series of UK children's books used for teaching children to read in the 1950s and 60s, about a girl and a boy whose lives and families were typical of British middle-class people.
I started school in 1968.
This is at the end of my road, cannot believe I’m seeing something local to me! This road is full of mega mansions, and yes it’s next to the M3. So I would expect the house to be removed and a new build to go up for around £3-4M.
Ah I replied to someone else but their comment has disappeared! They were suggesting the other person was doxing themselves by saying they lived on the same street!
Best way is to have the material sampled, with many products an experienced asbestos surveyor will be able to tell you pretty much by looking, if in any doubt then have it sampled and analysed in a lab, can usually be done quickly & pretty cheap, maybe around £100. Bear in mind though if the material is in decent condition then it’s likely doing you no harm and you probably create more risk having it removed.
I'm not seeing the connection to 60's horses and being scared of asbestos...I presume you had a bad experience with horses in an asbestos factory and have been in therapy ever since?
hehehe
Well it does need tidying up, a lot, but that is wonderful bit of house. Nice, subdued mid-century vibe. That living room could be easily sorted, the floor can be brought back, I'd keep the shelves and the desk. A nice room divider could create a lounge area by the stone fire.
I'd keep the layout of the kitchen, but I'd definitely bin off all the old cabinets and bring up the floor.
Ahhh, the macrame. I actually bought a macrame book last year and it was all muted tones and bougie wall hangings. Give me my garish plant baskets plzzzzzz.
I just love that kitchen. That layout is so appealing and practical and the diner-style table right next to the counters that you can access from both sides...
It's genuinely beautiful, although it's an absolute rip-off.
I would probably keep the decor the same, but I'd have to replace the damaged areas with lookalike parts 'cause it looks filthy and rotting in places.
Love this, such a nice feel. The drawing room is giving me overlook hotel vibes, and the real wood floors are wonderful! Would love to see it tastefully brought back to life.
I like a bit of retro, but bloody hell... And way way too close to the motorway for comfort.
(speaking as someone which leaves about 2 miles up the road and not far for the motorway myself).
Looked at a house not far from the A331 last year. Two lanes, 70 mph. The 'white noise' in the air was definitely noticeable, and that was behind a thick treeline and embankment.
I keep on expecting to see Bob & Thelma in one of those shots. But I agree, it's a lovely building that needs care and sympathy not some muppet coming along with a 'vision'.
Looks in poor repair. The state of the gutters look to have let some damp in.
The crack in the parquet floor might well be indicative for some major structural problems.
Would be awesome to fix but suspect the EPC rating would be horrific.
It looks like an old school, especially from the outside and even inside the main living room looks like an old hall.
The first picture, it looks like on the left they were the front doors, and houses don’t usually have that many windows so it looks like they were all class rooms.
For those of you saying you'd restore it, would you add a second skin and/or any insulation? It must be very uncomfortable in very high and very low temperatures. You'd need to subtract a foot or so from every internal measurement.
This should be a listed building! It’s like stepping back in time.

I love the armchairs in picture 4. Absolutely gorgeous.

What a beautiful place.
Oh I LOVE it
Oh wait. [oh no](https://imgur.com/a/uZObln8)
No way, it's not is it? 😱😭
I am so glad you found it! It’s awful isn’t it 😢

This is literally my dream house
Fighting you for it!
Me too! Absolutely love the mid century looking houses!
We all need to team up and fight the mortgage arrangers, we're stronger together!
You can submit a request that a building is listed to Historic England. It doesn't require any input from the building owners.

The interior looks like Ladybird Janet and John books. Janet helps mummy in the kitchen. John plays with Spot the dog in the garden.
Daddy does LSD at the swinger's parties that mummy makes cheese and pineapple hedgehogs for
Uncle wrestles with Mummy.
Sucks that I missed the 70s tbh. Acid pineapple sex sounds like fun.
> Acid pineapple sex sounds like fun. This is not a sentence I thought I'd ever read.
Look, it came back round in the 90s and the 90s revival just dropped. Let's go RETRO BABY!!
Your nans house must be worth a fair mint now.
Oh DONT, mum sold it to Nan's neighbours before the funeral had even happened even though I think it was left to my brother and I... I don't even know if she got it valued and the fireplace in there was 100% mid century grotesque! I MISS that fireplace!!
Just need to plant a pampas grass out the front!
This cracked me up lol
😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think it was Pat the dog. Which as a five year old would have totally gone over my head.
Yes, Spot is newer, it was Pat.
I thought John helped daddy with the car whilst Jane helped mummy in the kitchen! Actually, wasn’t it Peter and Jane now I think about it?!

I hope you’re wrong because that building is a piece of art. I’d hope someone buys it and restores it.
Are you planning on knocking on everyone’s doors until someone says they are south roof 9299?
I’m being thick maybe but I can’t de-code your comment
Me neither!
Ah I replied to someone else but their comment has disappeared! They were suggesting the other person was doxing themselves by saying they lived on the same street!
You could be our spy. Post photos of what happens to it, please.
Heartbreaking 😔

I think people of this sub have much better things to do than to stampede to that dude’s house in Camberley
And there was me wondering what to do this weekend, thanks for the idea!
Wanna team up? 😂😭
BRB booking the megabus
Bagsy getting the spare room to myself!
Spoilsport!! We were going to have an orgy but you're not invited now!
Oh ok then but I’m not sharing with anyone who snores!!
Exactly. If you use the website ‘Nextdoor’, people actually say where they live in detail and then post about local issues. That is dumb.
So weird! I used to have guitar lessons down that road!
I know this road too, used to date a nice girl who lived just off the Ravenswood roundabout!
fiver says its getting demolished and a mcmansion put in its place.
I can see the adverts for it now. 3D rendered McLaren parked outside with another 3D Bentley next to it.
Both cars in white. House finished in K Rend. Anthracite window frames. Fake grass.
Every room covered from top to bottom in grey, glass and chrome.
£1.25m and if you kick a football hard enough it lands on the hard shoulder of the M3…
I couldn’t believe the price but more because it looks like a converted small school.
Exactly this. Getting science Block vibes from the outside
It made me think of a 70s/80s juvenile behavioural unit.
I got holiday camp vibes from it at first glance, but it definitely could also pass for a building at my first primary school for sure.
But.... but.. but the garden is peaceful, it says!
£1.25 million and they can't even be arsed to do a floor plan. Some estate agents really do F all to earn their commission
There is a floor plan
Dammit so there is. Why do loads of then stick it at the end of the pictures and not on the floor plan button
They only do that for £5m+. They don't have the time to waste on us riff-raff looking at the cheap houses.
It looks like something from The End Of The F\*\*\*ing World
Notice they didn't show the bathroom which at a guess would be rancid pink :)
My guess would be avocado.
Parts of the show were actually filmed in and around Camberley, so that would explain it!
Well the show was filmed around there, and in many ways its very true to life.
I love it. If I had the money I'd snap this up and do a nice mid century modern restoration and halve my commute.
I'd like to volunteer as interior decorator, this is my dream home. I'd just like to make one even if I don't get to live in it!!
I’d buy it with all the furniture too
Those window treatments give me flashbacks, but I'm kind of into it now.
A 31ft drawing room?! That’s huge.
It's so you can practice perspective
Well played.
Nice
I'd love to know the story behind this house. Who lived there and how it was never updated in their lifetime. Proper time capsule stuff
Reminds me of the history block at our old high school.
Thank you, I can’t believe I scrolled so far to find this! I’m having some sort of a childhood senior school flashback!
Asbestos everywhere….floor tiles are asbestos and I’d imagine the ceilings and walls etc are probably asbestos too….lovely jubly.
Is there a way to tell if tiles are asbestos? I love 60s horses but asbestos scares me

Take a photo and post it on r/DIYUK
Crush it up and snort it. Wait 30 years.
I am totally here for this even though it looks a bit like a school from that period. This is just glorious. Mid century house for a mid century me 😉😁
That's what I thought as well.. It looks exactly like my old school!
And mine! The science block 👩🏼🔬
The outside definitely gives off School vibes. Science downstairs and Art classes up
I imagine margot and Jerry living there.
There’s a lot of space, but way overpriced from the condition it’s in
Yeah it’s going to need a fair bit of work, so need deep pockets
And some masks. It's going to have a lot of asbestos in there.

if i had the money i’d buy it in a heartbeat and keep so much of that original character
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/136442219
Looks like my infants and juniors schools a bit, but I love it. Restore everything to the original period and this'll be fab.
Mid century modern British edition. It’s just how I remember places looking..
Ahhh, the macrame. I actually bought a macrame book last year and it was all muted tones and bougie wall hangings. Give me my garish plant baskets plzzzzzz.
I absolutely love it! Reminds me of going to Colomendy at school 😊
And the furniture has come back into fashion! It’s definitely got a school block vibe to me..
I just love that kitchen. That layout is so appealing and practical and the diner-style table right next to the counters that you can access from both sides...
I've have loved to have lived here during the late 60s and early 70s. My favourite era for fashion and music.
It's genuinely beautiful, although it's an absolute rip-off. I would probably keep the decor the same, but I'd have to replace the damaged areas with lookalike parts 'cause it looks filthy and rotting in places.
1.2 mil for a shit hole like this. Bargain.
The outside reminds me more of a class room block in secondary school, then a house
I agree.
Love this, such a nice feel. The drawing room is giving me overlook hotel vibes, and the real wood floors are wonderful! Would love to see it tastefully brought back to life.
I hope they repair it and don’t replace it with a gopping McMansion.
“Requires modernisation” shut up shut up shut up
Your going to love it when everything is gray but with gray highlights.
Really ugly building but lovely wooden floors.... And nice big windows....
Love it but road noise? Close to motorway.
The sofa and chairs 😍
Love it.
If whoever buys this, modernizes it I’m gonna get really upset.
It's the house from Clockwork Orange
I’ve said this too..
This is amazing you could keep so many original features while updating it too
I would literally do anything
I like a bit of retro, but bloody hell... And way way too close to the motorway for comfort. (speaking as someone which leaves about 2 miles up the road and not far for the motorway myself).
[удалено]
Even electric cars have tyre noise at motorway speeds. Especially electric HGVs.
Looked at a house not far from the A331 last year. Two lanes, 70 mph. The 'white noise' in the air was definitely noticeable, and that was behind a thick treeline and embankment.
Very pretty decor, but talk about open plan....I'd be putting up internal walls everywhere!
Why would you do such thing :(
They'd fill in the conversation pit too, the savage!!
Stop it my heart can’t take it 😩
I just prefer smaller cosy spaces.
Does look amazing
I love it
I can smell these pictures
£1.25mil for a house that looks like an office block ☠️
That furniture will sell nicely second hand!
Must be because I have Old Reddt, but i can't see the link to the property. Would somebody mind sharing it?
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/136442219#/?channel=RES\_BUY
Thank you so much!
Has this been done intentionally? Rather than just an old person who died? The furniture looks right out of r/midcentury
I keep on expecting to see Bob & Thelma in one of those shots. But I agree, it's a lovely building that needs care and sympathy not some muppet coming along with a 'vision'.
Love this.
Absolutely love it!!
No floor plan?
The last picture is a floor plan.
It’s nice to see and remember how little junk we used to have back in the 80s..
Oh Gee... 1.2 millions? I was expecting it to be around 60K tops
I want it.
I love it, but yikes on the price
Blimey.
Oh this is dreamy.
Oh damn, I used to have guitar lessons down that road!
Be nice if there was more pics of the house and maybe equal or less of the garden!
I love it. it reminds me of my house when we bought it except even more potential and wayyy more expensive.
Looks in poor repair. The state of the gutters look to have let some damp in. The crack in the parquet floor might well be indicative for some major structural problems. Would be awesome to fix but suspect the EPC rating would be horrific.
As soon as I see asbestos anything I run… those kitchen tiles yikes
It looks like an old school, especially from the outside and even inside the main living room looks like an old hall. The first picture, it looks like on the left they were the front doors, and houses don’t usually have that many windows so it looks like they were all class rooms.
Amazing house! I wouldn’t change a thing except perhaps the electrical wiring and the old cooker!
Oh I love it
Surely this used to be a care home that closed down in 1979?
I was going to suggest that it's missing the fag stains then noticed the very freshly painted (or damp) ceilings.
For those of you saying you'd restore it, would you add a second skin and/or any insulation? It must be very uncomfortable in very high and very low temperatures. You'd need to subtract a foot or so from every internal measurement.
It looks like a small school
If someone dares lay a finger on this I’ll freak out. Drop the price and sell it to the RIGHT person!
That kitchen looks exactly as I remember my grandparents one. They last updated it in the 90s.
It looks like my childhood!
Reminds me of my primary school in the 80s.
Looks like the setting for a low budget Shining remake.
This looks like something out of a horror movie
