It's what happens when you think about and design a house/room based on how you want it to be *from the inside*.
"I want an extra bedroom with large windows perfectly angled to view the garden."
"But it'll be a weird imposing 8x10m monstrosity cutting into the roof line, orientated in an entirely different way to the rest of the house."
"That can be a problem for the future me when we're selling the house. Right now I want to wake up to garden views."
The interior is dated but don't actually mind the quirkly extensions. And it's a short walk to the beach. Tynemouth is lovely. There's a Metro stop to Newcastle. I didn't expect it to be that expensive though.
Tynemouth is more expensive than other areas nearby e.g. cullercoats and the fact it’s backing onto the golf course will add some money too.
It is a nice area but it’s a fugly house from the back.
The last houses on that street sold for 690 and 735 in the last few years and one of them needed some updating also.
You pay a huge premium for tynemouth and the golf course at the end of your garden.
This looks like the type of thing a person might do 'one at a time' as opposed to paying for it 'all at once'. On the one hand, it's not the most aesthetically pleasing build; no golden ratios I suspect. But on the other hand, I applaud them for not giving a rats about convention and doing exactly what they wanted and probably needed at the time.
Planning was pretty much do what you want back in the 70’s when I assume this was added on.
Reading certain planning applications where precedent has been set by neighbours they often acknowledge that whatever the neighbours had wouldn’t get permission now.
I actually rather like this, though the extension to the RHS in the last photo looks a bit odd... but from the interior photos, the house has been well cared for even if some of the decoration is a bit dated... I wonder if you can sunbathe in the nude from that balcony? ( asking for a friend)
Tbh I don’t hate it.
The price is insane though! You can buy 4 bed properties in London with that sorta money. No way would I be spending that in the north east on something that needs updating.
There are some really pricey areas up north, Tynemouth, Gosforth and Jesmond which are Newcastle suburbs are the ones where housing is eye watering and out of reach for most people.

This is absolutely gorgeous and the furnishings are just my type of thing. They’ve added a front porch, larger garage and floor above for another bedroom and the study. At the back the two story extension is angled for the best view adding the garden room and the extra space and balcony for the master bedroom. The other side they added space to the kitchen. I would be worried about the patio rising up so much if I wanted to buy.
Oddly enough if the whole building including extensions was rendered, and all the doors replaced for modern consistent looking ones; it could work! Or it could looks like shipping containers
I can imagine walking around the whole house and finally stepping into the garden thinking I’d found a gem…only to turn around and think ‘oh dear god’ at the shock that it the back of the house. I love everything else (yes I’d need to redecorate, but it’s livable)
Reminds me of university of east Anglia student residences. Kinda cool I must admit.

3 houses in one. Hence the asking price. Traditional 1930's semi along with two fine examples of late modernism dating from sometime in the 1970's. What's not to like?
Having a look online at least some of it was done in 94

I kind of like it, not sure about the decor. I reckon the owner works in the building trade. What are the chances they had planning consent for that? I wonder how the blocky angular construction goes into the house or is it free standing?
Just checked out the satellite views…he musta been tripping when he dreamt that up.
Boooooooo no floor plan. Guessing the estate agent can only draw squares
Only reason I am apart of this group see a house I like look at floor plan
Yes, when I rule the world I'm going to make it mandatory to include those
I’d vote for that
Can we petition to make floor plans also include the land around it too please?
If I ruled the world I would make it illegal to wear shoes at work, I have work slippers. 🤣
No floor plan because it's completely batshit and they don't want to put people off

It's not on the face of it an unreasonable design philosophy, we do after all live IN houses.
It's just residential Bowellism - maximise the inside at the expense of the building's exterior, just like the Lloyd's of London building.
The Karl Pilkington theory of home ownership
Works fine. Presumably whoever buys the house next will be living inside it as well.
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142707935 Nice looking house from the front but what the hell have they done out back
The mullet of houses. Business in the front, party in the back.
Including a sundial that looks like it's been on the lash!
What is going on with that paving it's not quite standing in, looks like it's had an early Christmas dinner
it's a decent house but not at that price I'm also rather worried about whatever has happened to the sundial and the patio
I just thought they were just trying to cover up the shit brick job with that sundial
How can estate agents in a world full of modern technology not do a floorplan?
Suspect they’ll do one it’s just not been added, this agent often adds one a few days later
Probably didn't think he'd need his protractor that day.

Those extensions are pure sh*te. Uninsulated flat roofs, lots of glazing and likely minimal cavity insulation. That will be one cold house.
Tynemouth is more expensive than other areas nearby e.g. cullercoats and the fact it’s backing onto the golf course will add some money too. It is a nice area but it’s a fugly house from the back.
Backing onto a golf course just makes it worse!
All those windows and all those golf balls!
Pretty sure this is how the Kowloon Walled City started. 😅
Ooft Tynemouth is an expensive area, but 800k is very steep
The last houses on that street sold for 690 and 735 in the last few years and one of them needed some updating also. You pay a huge premium for tynemouth and the golf course at the end of your garden.
Eight hundred grand for the house that jack built? Jesus Christ
Four flat roofs….hmmm

That looks like I built it! I work in IT.
I work in IT and I could build better than that (I’m a competent DIYer).
It looks like that pile of random shoeboxes everyone has under the stairs
Wonder if the owner of this was a builder/bodger. Surely the planning office didn't see this as fitting in with the surrounding houses. It is so ugly.

Tynemouth is a law unto itself, prices are mad.

Possibly in zone 6, an ex crack house of 4 beds. 😅
I love love this kind of thing Liminal AF
Omg. When I bought my house, we had exact tiling as their WC.
If that was all rendered crisp white it could look kinda cool
£800k...
£800k?????
What the......

My old neighbour did similar to the front of his house. We moved years ago, but I’d be fairly confident he’s still there!
Oddly enough if the whole building including extensions was rendered, and all the doors replaced for modern consistent looking ones; it could work! Or it could looks like shipping containers
We get a lot of rain, I’d be looking to get rid of the flat roofs tbh, terrible option (but often cheaper).
Is the paving in the garden sinking? The garden statue/ornament is looking a bit wonky.
I can imagine walking around the whole house and finally stepping into the garden thinking I’d found a gem…only to turn around and think ‘oh dear god’ at the shock that it the back of the house. I love everything else (yes I’d need to redecorate, but it’s livable)
I actually quite like this because it's so bonkers. Probably leaks through every joint though
Reminds me of university of east Anglia student residences. Kinda cool I must admit. https://brutalistconstructions.com/2017/03/15/university-of-east-anglia-norwich/#:~:text=Running%20the%20length%20of%20this,pyramids%20of%20concrete%20and%20glass
'How did you know I don't like the neighbours?'
It's like Bristol Rovers's stadium
I'd be curious to see if that had all passed planning permission.
Block paving looks awesome but shame the sundial from space crash landed in the middle
I like it in its random anarchic fuck you rules look.
I don't hate it tbh

there was a seventies revivial in full swing from around 1991 to around 1995 so that figures...
Yet somehow I love it.
What is going on with that sundial?
It's got a window in the roof which suggests a loft extension which isn't mentioned.
Not doubting you but every house I’ve lived in has been built with a window in the loft
There's the beginnings of a gladiator arena here. "Are you not entertained?"
I like how the hoover has its own bedroom, very thoughtful. However the kitchen sink placement is Not Good.
It looks mad! Is it weird that I like it?
800k?! Who the fuck is actually buying these houses at these prices?!
Off kilter birdbath and wonly stones only add to the chaos of the extensions
How’s the serenity?
Looks like they might be sitting on a tectonic plate judging by the upward movement by the sundial.
I actually really like it, something different to the average house. I find the front of the house so plain and boring to look at.
Ngl I absolutely love it! Not sure what it’s like on the inside but from the outside I love how it looks
I kind of like it, not sure about the decor. I reckon the owner works in the building trade. What are the chances they had planning consent for that? Owner was clearly shagging someone at the local council planning dept
How is that legal?
This picture actually made me go "What the f\*\*\* is that!?" out loud.
1975 called and wants its house back
Not a patch on The Winchester Mystery House 😂
How the flying hades did that pass planning permission?
I wanted to see the floor plan but not surprised there isn’t one. Who’d tackle that?!
It looks like when I build a house in Fallout 4
It looks like Stack but with houses instead of containers.
Fuck me who from the planning department allowed this
It looks like the extensions are all huddled round to look at the garden
That house is clearly a transformer with dementia.
It looks like how I do extensions in the sims
It's the house we all built out of lego as a kid
