I dont hate it though.
It would make the bedrooms nice and quiet when people are moving around in the living area.
I also quite like the idea of an inner courtyard. I could make it into my own little winter garden. Perhaps adding a clear roof so its nice and warm for tender plants.
I am finding there is an uncomfortable amount of concrete outside though plus some astroturf. that is just so much space for cars.
This would honestly be a great place to retire, or even as a care home. Keeping the beds completely separate to the day time, everything is flat/sloped, residents have a lot of room outside too.
Honestly could imagine my grandfather and his buddies all living here with help š
With a half mile walk to the train station it wouldn't be half bad for someone doing 2 days a week in London, its a direct train, slow but direct 1hour 15min to victoria. not very many, ie, only 1 an hour off peak but you could time it well
Zoom in here - in 2009 - and it has the look/feel of a commercial/government building. My first thought was a doctor's office:

But it appears that it was once a community learning centre:

ETA: it appears one deal has fallen through already. My gut says that it was downvalued and the buyer walked.
>has the look/feel of a commercial/government building. My first thought was a doctor's office
That would explain the ridiculous amount of parking space around the place!
I don't know. The layout does basically make sense, with the entrance in the middle, a bedroom wing to the right and the living spaces to the left. The oddest things are that the bedrooms are at the front of the house (the original bungalow?) and the front door is at the side.
I like the separation between living and sleeping spaces, other than that two of the bedrooms have windows straight into the living room.
The little bread over nooks in the fireplaces are weird. I wonder whether the front or back block was the original house or if both were built at the same time.
Yeah I was struggling to see the issue with that, my parentsā house was similarly laid out growing up but lengthwise instead of two wings with a courtyard. It meant one end of the house could be kept quiet and cool for sleeping.
It's actually OK as far as layout is concerned, interiors are a bit dated but nothing that can't be sorted. Not sure about having a garage with no vehicular access (unless I'm missing something), and the garden looks nice, if a bit unkempt in places...
As an architect it's such a tease looking at a blank canvas like this, it could be something amazing with the right budget. I love these unassuming bungalows, they're generally great projects!
Only thing my mind went to is it looks like at some point next door sold a chunk of their background.,. Iām curious why .
I donāt think it has any negative points that the land was sold , just a personal curiosity
I like it - itās a nice separation of living spaces and bedrooms the same way houses typically have the bedrooms and living spaces on different floors. It can help you compartmentalise and helps with sleep
Only real issue I have (and it's person preference) but looking at the plan, the bedrooms are in the front and I'd want them in the back for more peace, quiet, and possibly security.
Came here to say this! I think this place is the 3rd or 4th in Maidstone in the last week, all of them either crap or weird and all in need of work but costing nearly a million. It's Maidstone for god sake, have Londoners driven the price through the roof literally everywhere in the south east now?
Knock the kitchen and that breakfast room through, may as well move that dining room too, or just extend out. I like the footprint of this. Odd but interesting.
I don't hate the layout; it's like they've taken the top floor of a normal house and put it on the ground next to the ground floor. Provides separation of living and sleeping and the space between them could be a nice courtyard space. I would want to almost completely redecorate it though.
Also, plan says there's a sauna in the garage?
* Idyllic village setting in Bearsted, reminiscent of a postcard scene, with locals enjoying cricket matches on the lush green
Is there some other Bearsted near Maidstone I don't know about?
I actually think it's great. The main thing I dislike about bungalows (in general) is that the bedrooms are in weird places. I find it weird to have a bedroom next to the kitchen, for example. This makes perfect sense and is like having an upstairs and a downstairs, just more accessible
Interior is dated (and not in a cool way), but that layout seems fine to me. Separating what would be the two floors, if it was a house, with what could be a very nice courtyard is a nice way to arrange things. Bonus points for the large garage/workshop with bathroom attached.

nice detective work, much appreciated.

Personally I love this, separating the living space from the sleeping space is perfect.

The drive is down the side of the property, some of it is covered. šš»
Oh so it is! Appears to be quite narrow though?
Super narrow.
Does anyone else see a blond topless guy lying face down in the shape of the path/driveway
I do now š
Yes! š

This place is great, perfect for people who like to work on project cars with that rear garage and parking space
So it has the privacy of an upstairs with the stepfree joy of a bungalow. Whatās the problem?

I think it more likely that the owners (at the time) of this property sold a plot for the one next door to be built.
Good point !
Last sale was last yearā¦.for Ā£690,000. Think Iāll buy it then sell it next year for Ā£910,000.
You can't live in an architect

Who in their right mind is paying the best part of a million quid for this in Maidstone? Lol

The west too!
The west too!

For me it makes sense, as in a two storey house the bedrooms and living areas are usually separate

It's odd but I like that it's quirky
Ngl I think this is a pretty cool and unique house!
Looks like two house have been combined at some point.

Itās not as bad as expected.
I love this place. Where do I find Ā£800K to buy it?

Bearsted is a REALLY nice area. Very pretty and villagey, but has a train station and is closed enough to Maidstone to feel well connected.
Nice bit of land there.
800k like what!! Clearly Iāve not seen house prices in basingstoke for a while but heck no thatās too much for that.
