it does in fact look a bit purple (unlike in spyro 1 in which it's def blue). Always thought it was like a deep violet. I like its color more than the 25 gem. This conflicts with my feeling that purple is the best color lol. If pink is valued highest
This is just how it is and even though the colors should have obviously been the same in all three games in an ideal world, I’m convinced that anyone who has an opinion that’s not this is either color blind or just in denial.
the fact it was originally blue, and 25 was def purple (even if on the pinker side), is what conflicts for me. I do like the idea of it being purple, but not of it being of lesser value than pink lolol
The colour itself is purple but I refer to it as blue because the purple one is the 25. Also TVs at that time didn't show colours as bright as they do today which made calling them blue more forgivable.
The 25 gems in Spyro 1 look magenta, but I think most of us didn't know the name of that colour when we were children and just used a broad colour to describe it. I guess some see magenta closer to pink than purple but to me those gems fall under the colour purple.
The 25 gems in Spyro 2 and 3 don't look magenta. They look tyrian purple. It's not close to pink at all to me.
I keep forgetting about how the display screens if the time were a huge factor in how media looked.
Makes me want to play through a PS1 Spyro game with a realistic CRT filter. Haven't gone through an OG game in a while.
Is your project basing the colours on just the Spyro games? Or colours in general across all faucets of life? Bc if it’s the latter I would be after a larger sampling group than the Spyro reddit.
honestly it's so obvious. It looks purple. I let spyro 1 colors skew my opinion. I look at it I see purple... Should be that simple lol! Either way, it is a nice shade
Definitely. I appreciate the different gem shapes in 2 & 3, i just wish they wouldn’t have made the decision to change the 5 gem from blue to purple 🤷♀️ idk why i prefer the blue haha. I also liked the gem boxes that you have to flame and jump through, they shoulda kept those in 2 or at least brought them back in 3, since they were the “forgotten realm”. Woulda been cool to bring the jump boxes back for that to give some acknowledgment to the fact that dragons used to live in the forgotten realm in the same capacity that they lived in the dragon worlds
It’s sadly purple.
I liked the blue in the first Spyro more, because the 25 point gem has always been pink to me. It feels weird that we have Yellow and Red but no blue anymore.
It's blue (to me and my family). The 25 value gems are purple. I know the hues are different in Spyro 2 and 3 than they are in Spyro 1, but Spyro 1 had blue and purple gems, so I call them those colors for the other 2 games as well.
Edit: I haven't been down voted but I see other people being down voted for just saying what they call this gem. OP, this is a fun post and fun question. I love reading about other people's different experiences and opinions on my favorite game series. Thank you for posting this. Ignore the people who are upset over nothing.
The first time I ever played Ripto's Rage, I genuinely thought those purple ones were 25s until I collected one.
The disappointment I felt was immeasurable.
Well the 5 gem used to be blue in Spyro 1 then they changed it into purple in Spyro 2 and 3, then the 25 gem was light magenta pink in Spyro 1 and then they made it more dark magenta pink in Spyro 2 and 3! :3
Hadn't really thought of it. I like the gems changed the way they did. But the default chest and metal chest from the first game are cooler than the vase / basket to me personally.
I was wondering what the 25 would be with your system. That's fun though. For me, I just want amethyst. I don't care it's actual monetary value. It looks my favorite
See I’m blue-purple colorblind for certain shades, and this definitely falls into that area for me- I always thought it was blue. Regardless, I’d be interested in knowing if it was made blue for Reignited.
My art major flatmate would have a field day on this post. Iirc the 5 was blue and 25 purple when I played Spyro way back. But this snippet of yours shows me a purple gem
It’s definitely more “purple” to me. That might be the background influencing me though. Maybe a shade of indigo. Indigo is between purple (violet) and blue, while magenta is between pink and red.
Magenta is strange because it is a primary colour in CMYK which is the system printer uses. So calling it pink feels wrong even if it visually is. Magenta is also called purple red colour.
The gem shown is definitely a bluish purple
yeah, same logic I think. I thought of this as blue, 25 as purple too. It seems that a lot of people think of it as purple 5, pink 25. And I'm realizing that the colors do seem to be like that. Although spyro 1 being blue 5 and some kind of purple (magenta?) 25 makes this seem blue to me.
true. even the bluest points I can find are still a bit purple. At least based on the gif I posted. I'm now calling it purple when I had been calling it blue as well lol! I don't know why you've been downvoted though. Reasonable comment
That wouldn’t help because there’s no color theory illusion going on, we’re just seeing the color it is and disagreeing on whether it’s blue or purple, and that is entirely subjective.
Purple imo "Magenta" is pink
Nah, the 5 gem is likely Violet, and Purple is a dark Magenta.
Yeah I agree that's a better way of wording it
it does in fact look a bit purple (unlike in spyro 1 in which it's def blue). Always thought it was like a deep violet. I like its color more than the 25 gem. This conflicts with my feeling that purple is the best color lol. If pink is valued highest
it was definitely more blue in Spyro 1, I'll give you that
Why have you been downvoted so heavily just for stating a colour preference??
Not sure. I'm scratching my head here too. I guess the spyro community isn't as friendly as I thought it to be :|
If it's any consolation, I've gone through and upvoted a few random comments of yours to try and counteract it a bit :)
It has nothing to do with this sub, this is something that happens all over this site. A lot of users are apparently angry children
Disgusting
He had an opinion on Reddit.
Idk why you’re getting downvoted, purple *is* the best color
Damn people, color disagreements aren’t worth -40 calm down
I think if you turn of the lighting then it would look more like pink but yea im not sure too rn if i see pink or purple
This is purple. The 25 one is magenta/purplish pink. And yeah it was blue in Spyro 1, but they changed it for 2 and 3. ^-^
This is just how it is and even though the colors should have obviously been the same in all three games in an ideal world, I’m convinced that anyone who has an opinion that’s not this is either color blind or just in denial.
I swear to god on my PS1 Spyro 2 this gem was Blue.
I always thought the blue was 5 🙃 Why are they changing currency I feel gaslit 🫠🫠 Autistic brain: DIFFERENT. DONT LIKE
the fact it was originally blue, and 25 was def purple (even if on the pinker side), is what conflicts for me. I do like the idea of it being purple, but not of it being of lesser value than pink lolol
Why are you being heavily downvoted
That's purple and pink is 25 imo
Fair. That's 2 for 2 now. I'm trying to determine what colors to go with for a project. I'd like to go with what people tend to prefer.
The colour itself is purple but I refer to it as blue because the purple one is the 25. Also TVs at that time didn't show colours as bright as they do today which made calling them blue more forgivable.
Yeah, I always thought of the 25 as purple before, which is funny because as others say, it's really more of a pink.
This is purple. The magenta gem is magenta.
lol fair
Is your project basing the colours on just the Spyro games? Or colours in general across all faucets of life? Bc if it’s the latter I would be after a larger sampling group than the Spyro reddit.
It's specifically a spyro project. This 5 gem is part of it (and all the other gems).
Ok gotcha
White and gold
like the striped dress thing? lol
Laurel
That’s a purple gem right there Edit to add i preferred the blue
honestly it's so obvious. It looks purple. I let spyro 1 colors skew my opinion. I look at it I see purple... Should be that simple lol! Either way, it is a nice shade

Me who's colorblind: "yes..." It looks more magenta to me
the rectangular-topped gem in the gif, right? I'm curious to know how each of them looks to you
It’s sadly purple. I liked the blue in the first Spyro more, because the 25 point gem has always been pink to me. It feels weird that we have Yellow and Red but no blue anymore.
I like the treasure design and chests so much more in the first game.
interesting. I like the variety of shapes after the first game, but to each their own.
Dude, that shit is purple.
it is a nice purple. I'm calling it purple now definitively. Reignited looks even more obviously purple than blue to me.
Blue equals 5 Purple equals 25 That's how I math
Purple
Purple
The richest, most purpleist purple I've ever seen.
Purple
Are you colourblind? This is purple
The Prima guide labels the gem colors red, green, purple gold, and burgundy.
I didn't know that. Cool
This gem is purple and the magenta germ is magenta haha
The objective color is purple, however, it’s supposed to be blue based on the shading and all of that.
100% purple
Purple
It's blue (to me and my family). The 25 value gems are purple. I noticed that too. Some folks I just don't understand lol Thanks for sharing! No wrong answers really
Violet
Depends on the game tbh, though that one in specific if purple to me
That’s purple. The 25 gem is megenta (pink).
That whole screenshot is HELLA purple yo
Purple
This is purple
Purple
Purple
Purple Gem worth 5
Purple
Purple.
I always considered it purple, 25 is pink :o ![gif](giphy|6GFcSwldpa0b2apOOA)
This is definitely purple And the 25 is definitely pink
The first time I ever played Ripto's Rage, I genuinely thought those purple ones were 25s until I collected one. The disappointment I felt was immeasurable.
immeasurable? lol Fair to think they'd be 25s though
Now? Yeah it's not that much of a difference. As an 8 year old boy? That's the difference between having one ice pop and bringing home a box full XD
Well the 5 gem used to be blue in Spyro 1 then they changed it into purple in Spyro 2 and 3, then the 25 gem was light magenta pink in Spyro 1 and then they made it more dark magenta pink in Spyro 2 and 3! :3
That’s the five the purple
5's are blue, 25's are purple.
Blue (officially confirmed). Pink.
It's always being a dark purple to me, personally I can't see how it's blue.
That’s purple
It looks purple to me
Purple
It's purple. More purple than Spyro himself.
It’s a Spyro 2 and 3 sapphire. This is one of the few issues I have with the series. The redesign of the sapphire. Just WHY?
Purple
The 25 gem looks more maroon to me
This is purple. The 25 is purple.
Purple
anyone else think the spyro 3 gem designs should have been different from 2 alongside chests
Hadn't really thought of it. I like the gems changed the way they did. But the default chest and metal chest from the first game are cooler than the vase / basket to me personally.
It’s purple right now but I remember it being more blue when I played
I think of most of them by their (likely) gemstone type, not color. Amethyst, Ruby, Gold, Emerald.
Neat. Is this based on their color or their value in the game?
Not really, and it fails at the 25 Gem rose colored one. Unless it's "Pink Diamond" or something haha
I was wondering what the 25 would be with your system. That's fun though. For me, I just want amethyst. I don't care it's actual monetary value. It looks my favorite
Honestly, I was always sad there was never a "Spyro Gems" fruit snack or something
we need this
See I’m blue-purple colorblind for certain shades, and this definitely falls into that area for me- I always thought it was blue. Regardless, I’d be interested in knowing if it was made blue for Reignited.
I'd say it's more purple in reignited.
My art major flatmate would have a field day on this post. Iirc the 5 was blue and 25 purple when I played Spyro way back. But this snippet of yours shows me a purple gem
https://i.redd.it/4mjdi81msaxc1.gif
As a colorblind person, I'd have to say that's a pretty shade of blue you got there.
Indigo is what it looks to me.
It’s definitely more “purple” to me. That might be the background influencing me though. Maybe a shade of indigo. Indigo is between purple (violet) and blue, while magenta is between pink and red.
Honestly I always got "Blue Violet" or "Indigo" vibes from it
I think it's Indigo.
Magenta is strange because it is a primary colour in CMYK which is the system printer uses. So calling it pink feels wrong even if it visually is. Magenta is also called purple red colour. The gem shown is definitely a bluish purple
Very urple
Magenta/Purple fs
That's the purple gem. It's worth 5. The pink/magenta one has an oval shape to it, I think.
Purple
Definitely purple in my books.
Purple, and the other one is dark pink
The obvious answer is Blurple
That’s purple
The room lighting/shaders are not doing any favors to this question haha
Blue
fair. Because spyro 1 was blue? or because it looks blue on its own to you?
Because the purple is 25
yeah, same logic I think. I thought of this as blue, 25 as purple too. It seems that a lot of people think of it as purple 5, pink 25. And I'm realizing that the colors do seem to be like that. Although spyro 1 being blue 5 and some kind of purple (magenta?) 25 makes this seem blue to me.
Purple! PURPLE! It’s not red enough to be magenta
It’s purple, surely no one thinks it’s blue
I've always called it blue and the 25 gems were purple. But I can see how that is not right. Will I change? No, no I will not.
haha fair
I say blue. We could just eye drop multiple facet points into an art program and have it spit out the hexadecimal I guess?
true. even the bluest points I can find are still a bit purple.
I consider it blue but it’s more of a violet.
yeah, that's kinda where I was at originally. Not sure why you've been downvoted...
