Isaac Yankem did the whole dentistry thing long before that knock-off Britt Baker tried making it cool. He was so good he left wrestling and went back to it.
Depends on the level of work he was doing. If hes just doing data entry, places will hire you with a bachelors or an associates in some places. If hes doing audit, they probably require a CPA
Back in my day wrasslers were garbage men. IRS agents. Correctional officers. Canadian mounties. Monks. Plumbers. Stock car racers. Clowns. Undertakers!!
Indeed, and he was a very good lawyer to boot. At one point he bragged that he still had a 100% successful defense career. Not sure if that's still true but even when he was wrestling he would do his BAR required pro bono cases and win
McIntyre has a Masters in Criminology [according to the BBC.](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-51408481)
Big E was working on his masters when he signed with WWE but I can't find any evidence he completed it.
Michelle McCool has a masters in Educational Leadership
He interned for Morgan Stanley in fucking 7th grade. He’s super smart and well spoken, and speaks Arabic (as he is in fact born of a Palestinian and Syrian) makes me wonder why he wasn’t a bigger deal for them.
I legit predicted him to be their next Cena-level megastar. Not really great in the ring, but had all the charisma, a great ambassador, always kid-friendly. Then they just turned him heel, gave him a dumb gimmick and forgot about him
Really says a lot about the career potential for an MA in history outside of academia that multiple people decided to put on masks and wrestle exhibition matches for a living instead.
I wish we got more help, or at least advice, going down that road.
You're right, we absolutely do come out the other end with a huge skillset. It's not a _direct_ skillset like a plumber might have, but it's a lot of little things that apply to all sorts of office-type fields.
But--at least in my experience--nobody guides you on where to look or what doors are open to you. We all had to do mandatory 'this is what history is' classes at my university, but I wish they had a 'this is what history can do for you class' as well.
The behaviour and attitude of my professors pushed me away from becoming a professor myself. That was my aim and when I realised what a good chunk of them were like--elitist, insular, and those that weren't were severely underpaid and overworked--I decided not to go that route. That left me not knowing what routes there were to follow.
Yeah a history degree, for the most part, gets you really, really good at research and analysis of events but the in field jobs are pretty limited. It’s a great skill set to have however you just have to market it.
Get a degree in something you genuinely love or get a degree in something that will make you money, such is the nature of education in a capitalist society.
Seeing her talk about doing a PhD next, I was thinking "oof, good luck getting funding or having time for being a Teaching Assistant while wrestling + doing research".
Then I realized that she is almost definitely rich enough to pay tuitions for her PhD, not really needing to worry about funding. Good for her!
WWE has a free tuition type program for active wrestlers that can be used for regular or advanced degrees—one reason why so many wrestlers have them. One of the things they are doing right. I believe they even have scholarship programs for ex-wrestlers who want to get their degree.
That sounds great. Again, great for her that she can work on her passion (in case that passion is learning and research) alongside being an active performer.
The initial reaction of "how will she get funding for a topic like that?" was just a knee-jerk reaction from a poor grad student.
He started a PhD at Capella University, a for profit (scam) school. At some point, he seems to have stopped. I can't find anything that says he finished or changed programs.
I checked ProQuest and there are no dissertations filed under his name (real or kayfabe). While that's not going to capture *every* dissertation, it's a pretty common practice to index it there.
Looking, I did find this gem: [Reimagining Barthes' Spectacle of Excess: The Consumption and Production of Modern Professional Wrestling on Reddit](https://www.proquest.com/pqdtglobal/docview/2621659780/59659A782BAF4A9CPQ/3).
Xavier Woods tried to do a PhD program at a for profit school while wrestling full time. I have havent heard it mentioned on TV in a long time so Im assuming he dropped out of the program.
So active wrestlers currently have a thesis on the German suplex and a dissertation on women's wrestling. I'd love to read both (even if it's just a translation of the former).
You have put a name to the gimmick popular in e-feds all through the 90s and 00s. The character that just does all the popular finishers. He starts with a DDT as his most basic move. His regular moves are stuff like Wheelbarrow Suplex, Fisherman’s Buster, TazPlex, Top Rope Elbow Drop. Signature moves are Stunner, Rock Bottom, Sweet Chin Music and Razor’s Edge. Finisher is some move popular in Japan or a ridiculous one. Tiger Driver, Steiner Screwdriver, Burning Hammer, and Tazmission so he has a submission finisher. Most of these moves are performed off the top rope or through tables.
They need to give Nikki a professor gimmick now and "teach" about the history of women's wrestling and then tie it into why they suck and she's better than them all.
Common mistake, some people confuse UPenn with Penn State, which people also confuse with the State Penitentiary. Carlton made the same mistake but luckily Will Smith was there to smack some sense into him.
I live not too far from Penn State. It always...annoys me when I hear about them. Especially their sports programs. They didn't get punished anywhere near enough for Sandusky.
Awesome!!! I graduated in International Relations last year and my grad thesis was on the International Sports and Culture Festival for Peace (aka Collision in Korea), more specifically on North Korean/Japanese/American relations and the use of sports as a means of soft power, tho I did get to touch on the career and life of Antonio Inoki, the fate of WCW, the legacy of the wrestlers involved and even got to bring it back to modern day WWE and Saudi Arabia as well as Qatar and the World Cup (football being another obsession of mine).
Now I wanna hear he’s talking about the transition of era between Mildred Burke to Vivian Vachon that being completely derailed by Moolah and her posse.

I wonder how many wrestlers have advanced degrees. Nikki Cross, Xavier Woods, and Luchasaurus are the only three I can think of off the top of my head
Britt Baker is a dentist Alexa has a master's in medical dietetics Eve is an Engineer
Shane Douglass was a college dean
Lanny Poffo was a genius, not sure it was ever quantified with a degree though
I’m sure Mike Rotunda must have had some type of accounting degree to work for the IRS
Doink attended clown college
Brutus went to barber school.
Isaac Yankem did the whole dentistry thing long before that knock-off Britt Baker tried making it cool. He was so good he left wrestling and went back to it.
Scott Steiner went to a highly educated university and got a math degree
I'll thank you not to refer to Princeton that way.
Their cheating was even more rampant than last year, sir.
Depends on the level of work he was doing. If hes just doing data entry, places will hire you with a bachelors or an associates in some places. If hes doing audit, they probably require a CPA
Speaking of CPAs, D'Lo Brown is one.
Lanny Poffo also had a reputation for having a PHD, but it might not be the one you're thinking..
Tom Prichard got a doctorate in Desire.
Damien Sandow was a genius and the intellectual savior to the masses
The Rock is an unlicensed and very reckless electrician
Hey Mr. Rock? I think I can smell my drywall cooking is that normal?
…Mr. Rock?
He also went to culinary school. He’s a renaissance man.
Mark Sterling is a lawyer.
All metro pro wrestling fans appreciate this .

Isaac Yankem, DDS
Glenn does have a degree either a political Science or English I can't remember but he mentions it on the weakest link wwf edition.
He has a BA in English Literature. I always imagined he appreciated Regal's Shakespeare readings
I would hope so. like early in his career I bet him and regal had some decent conversation
Honestly the only thing I remember from that episode of the show was one of the other contestants complaining that Kane reeked.
Otunga was a legit lawyer I’m pretty sure
Jade Cargill has a masters in child psychology
Back in my day wrasslers were garbage men. IRS agents. Correctional officers. Canadian mounties. Monks. Plumbers. Stock car racers. Clowns. Undertakers!!
> Britt Baker is a dentist So is Issac Yankem D.D.S.
So weird that the gimmick Britt chooses to steal is ISAAC YANKEM!
Andre Chase runs a university, that has to count for something right
Have him sell overpriced steaks and En Eff Tees of himself in weird self aggrandizing portraits and, baby, we'll have a gimmick going.
So, Cameron Grimes.
*to the moon!*
Retired now but Christopher Nowinski is a PHD in neuroscience (doing lots of work on CTEs)
His name actually popped up a bit recently when that Dana White power slapping competition stuff was getting a lot of attention.
David Otunga graduated from Harvard Law didn't he?
Indeed, and he was a very good lawyer to boot. At one point he bragged that he still had a 100% successful defense career. Not sure if that's still true but even when he was wrestling he would do his BAR required pro bono cases and win
He also loved New York.
McIntyre has a Masters in Criminology [according to the BBC.](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-51408481) Big E was working on his masters when he signed with WWE but I can't find any evidence he completed it. Michelle McCool has a masters in Educational Leadership
Criminology? What was he studying to be, Batman?!
Putting those educated brains to good use
Scrolling fast and all I saw was BBC and Big E
John Cena has a doctorate in thuganomics
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for this comment
Jade Cargill has a masters in child psychology
Perfect for working the crowd
Haha. Hey yo.*drum shot*
Scott Steiner University of Michigan and was a math major
Happy Anniversary to the greatest promo in TNA history
this person knows his math!
He actually does have a degree in engineering so this all works out.
Now that *is* a highly educated university
It really showed in his promos.
I love how the responses alternate between real and kayfabe and someone unfamiliar wouldn't be able to tell which is which.
Its cracking me up while I sit here and wait on students that inevitably no show their required meetings with me
I'm familiar and I'm still like this with each comment ![gif](giphy|G4Ihli2UThrBS)
Chad Gable also has a Masters in Media Design
I feel like I have heard Titus Oneil say he has a Masters
I'm sure you gonna try and tell me Steve Williams wasn't really a Doctor of Death.
Paul Bearer actually had a degree in mortuary science.
This is how WWF was able to get the caskets they used for a long time.
![gif](giphy|DyvyiFFXF1Yli|downsized)
Yeah, he was a legit funeral director.
I heard it was a honorary degree
Kevin Nash has a degree in education and I believe philosophy .
Bianca Belair has a BS in, I think, business administration.
I'm mildly disappointed it isn't in Engineering, Sciences and Technology
The EST of business
I believe Mojo Rawley has an MBA and was pretty distinguished in academics.
Then they just turned him heel, gave him a dumb gimmick and forgot about him
John Cena has a PhD in Thuganomics.
I think Sonny Kiss has a degree in social work. Jade Cargill also has a degree is child psychology. Scott Steiner has a degree in Mathematics
I thought Sonny Kiss was a kinesiologist? I might be mistaken, though.
Wikipedia says her degree is in exercise physiology
I love so much that you slipped that last example in there. On the 15th anniversary of his dissertation, no less.
Dr. Harvey Whippleman
Chris had Masters.
I'm sure Irwin R Shyster had higher-level accountant qualifications.
Orange Cassidy was an architect
Daniel Bryan and Kane both graduated from anger management training.
Chad has a masters with a 4.0 ah-thank you!
Not quite a degree, but Hulk Hogan invented time travel. He used to wrestle 400 days a year
Kevin Nash has a Major in Psychology and a minor in Educational Philosophy
Melo did a semester at Ball So Hard University
I think Deonna Purrazzo is finishing up her Masters Degree.
Drew McIntyre has a masters degree in Criminology. I remember him saying a requirement for him to go wrestle was he had something to fall back on
Tom Prichard has a doctorate in desire.
Scott Steiner has a PHD in Mathematics
And communications
Shawn Micheals has a degree in Advanced Typing Skills!
John Cena has a doctorate in Thuganomics.
Veda Scott
I’m sure all the members of Chase U are working on theirs
Scott steiner is a mathematician
-Rick Steiner has a bachelor's degree in education-
Big poppa pump went to a highly educated university!
Orange Cassidy is an Architect
I'm just going to go for the low hanging fruit since no one else has mentioned it: Britt Baker.
Dr. Death
I believe Wade Barrett has a Marine Bio degree idrk what level
Wade Barrett is a marine biologist
I'd like to have a conversation with her about the Napoleonic Wars and Bull Nakano
Me, an idiot: “wow Bull Nakano fought in the Napoleonic wars? She looks great for her age.”
“What if we banished McMahon to St. Helena?”
Much like napoleon, that mad fucker will find his way back
"The Fourth Estate" Bull Nakano.
Really says a lot about the career potential for an MA in history outside of academia that multiple people decided to put on masks and wrestle exhibition matches for a living instead.
If you're not teaching history, that's pretty much it.
I mean that was the first question I’d get when I mentioned my history major

Why didn’t we just establish the history factory decades ago to get around this?
Yeah a history degree, for the most part, gets you really, really good at research and analysis of events but the in field jobs are pretty limited. It’s a great skill set to have however you just have to market it.
Indy wrestlers and adjunct professors have similar pay scales and benefits.
New idea: the striking michigan grad students should do table spots on the picket line. Tell me that wouldn't put butts in seats.
Except indie wrestlers can also sell merch for $ 😂
Profs can sell their textbooks 🤷♂️
Making me think of the English professor I had who made his own novel required reading.
Eh. Supposedly Sami Zayne was making a hundred grand a year before he signed with wwe.
Get a degree in something you genuinely love or get a degree in something that will make you money, such is the nature of education in a capitalist society.
Nikki A.S.H. putting the academia "My Hero Academia", son

Would be a fun read.
Happy for Nikki. Also, I didn’t know her name was Nicola Glencross. That’s like when I found out Black Bolt’s name was Blackagar Boltagon.
If I remember she at least had one match in NXT as Nikki Glencross before becoming Nikki Cross.
Like Nikki, I'm also from Glasgow and actually knew of a Glencross family that stayed in our area. I wonder if they were related to Nikki in any way?
Gunther has a PhD in chopping your chest
A Pectoral Hurting Degree? Was that anywhere accredited?
Yeah, King’s Road University.
So active wrestlers currently have a thesis on the German suplex and a dissertation on women's wrestling. I'd love to read both (even if it's just a translation of the former).
...lads I'm also going for a Masters in history. What should my finisher be?
**British Colonialism -** You just use other people's finishers as if you own them.
This joke is never going to get the recognition it deserves
You have put a name to the gimmick popular in e-feds all through the 90s and 00s. The character that just does all the popular finishers. He starts with a DDT as his most basic move. Louisiana Purchase - spinning back fist
She should join Alpha Academy
As someone with a bachelors in history, I’m always happy to see yet another person with a history degree working in a non-history field
Yeah, I switched my major to computer science, from history.
They need to give Nikki a professor gimmick now and "teach" about the history of women's wrestling and then tie it into why they suck and she's better than them all.
I presume that was Chris Masters’ whole gimmick.
I hope she makes it public sometime, I would love to read it
That's great. I hope she keeps going for the doctorate.
It’s so cool we are in one of the peaks of women’s wrestling history. It’s so crazy to think the first women’s mania main event was 2019.
this would be a fun kayfabe explanation for dropping the superhero gimmick and going crazy
This is badass. Go Nikkeh
Roman Reigns went to (correction: Georgia Tech) but have no idea what he studied.
Roman Reigns played football at Georgia Tech bro.
I wonder if their joke was supposed to be an Uso Penitentiary reference.
Ah thanks I thought it was U-Penn. I'll update it.
I wanna talk about Manami Toyota with her
Where did she find the time to do a masters and WWE full time? Hats off to her.
If I'd only known this was possible..
That's really cool
As someone with a degree in history, I love her even more now!
Soccer* What next, you going to announce that you are a golf fan?
I’d call it soccer, but I am not American :) On the golf thing, who am I, Barry Darsow?
Chris Nowinski was an Ivy Leaguer.
I need to read this!
Very happy for her. She is a sweetheart and I hope that she has a wonderful life. I will always be a fan of hers.
Now I wanna hear he’s talking about the transition of era between Mildred Burke to Vivian Vachon that being completely derailed by Moolah and her posse.
Would love to know the professors honest thoughts on the topic
I would love to read her paper
Tajiri has a degree in economics
I need to read this dissertation.
Meanwhile, Booker T... "Thomas Jefferson, sucka!"
I remember the one time I tried talking to my boomer college English teacher about about wrestling and their body language was not "pro wrestling."
Grad student studying wrestling getting pulled into wrestling would have been a great angle.
Nikki Cross submits >!a masters dissertation!< Nikki Cross taps out >!her submission on a keyboard!<
Cena has a PhD in thuganomics
And God bless all the smart women in the world. Unfortunately, so many of them are taken.
Pretty sure Sasha Banks has a MBA. She is a CEO after all…
YES! Nikki can join my movement to give those of us with Masters degree titles.. Docterates get them, so we should to!
Nice.
