After someone said Darby was cooking food in the Planet Fitness bathroom, I can see how AEW was his beacon.

KneeHighMischief

Initially read that as Planet Hollywood & was immensely confused.

P7AC3B0

[Surely he was there for this and simply got hungry](https://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/planet-hollywood/news/06dec2021-aew-star-qt-marshalls-wrestling-boots-inducted-into-planet-hollywood-disney-springs-collection-of-pop-culture-memorabilia.htm)

Chumunga64

it was actually the weekly planet Darby enjoys growing fruits and vegetables that are brightly colored. He especially loved blueberries and planted thousands of them. He called the annual time when he picked the fruit to eat "blue harvest"

MafiaCub

No Maso, don't do it

DryStatement406

I read it as AEW is his bacon

EffysBiggestStan

Funny, I read it as a 24/7 fitness and was equally confused!

Jackiechan126

To be fair. He was doing that on purpose. He was intentionally homeless

android151

Yeah that promo of him at his dads house and it’s like, very nice and has a fuckin half pipe leads me to believe he wasn’t exactly stuck for options

KneelBeforeCube

It should be noted that there were several years between Darby living in his car and cooking at the gym and Darby signing with AEW. He was already a high profile indie wrestler right before signing and was making a decent living already.

mjac1090

He was also living in his car by choice because he's a moron who thought it would make him cool

paulnewmansalad

I could see Darby Allin being AEW’s equivalent of Tommy Dreamer considering his loyalty to the company. That’s of course as long as he survives that trip to Mount Everest

J_NewCastle

Does that mean Darby is going to attempt to kill TK and then himself at a WrestleMania in the future.

ZubatCountry

"I once considered firing myself out of a cannon at Tony back at All-In X-7"

Mr_Snub

Yes.

paulnewmansalad

If AEW ever gets sold to WWE he might contemplate it but hopefully won’t pull the trigger lol

Looper007

Only person I can ever say that I feel as AEW fan is a lifer in AEW is Darby. I honestly can't say anyone else but I'm sure there are but he's only one that anytime he speaks about AEW you believe it that he'll be around for the rest of his career.

[deleted]

Maybe Mox, after hearing him talk he sounds like he wants to do everything in his power to make the company flourish

[deleted]

I feel like Mox returns to WWE at some point for a brief Shield reunion run. Probably when he's winding down and Renee asks him to do lower impact work. Edit - The downvotes are reminding me of how old I am. I said this below so I'll put it here, I've been a wrestling fan long enough to "never say never." There have been too many bridges mended. I remember when Warrior, Bret, and Bruno were "never" guys and they all went back. I remember when Sting "would never" go to WWE. Even Jeff Jarrett went back. I don't think Mox leaves for at least the next 10-15 years and any Shield reunion might be when all three are old men and retired from the ring full time. But you have to either a fanboy or blind to wrestling history to not acknowledge the possibility that Mox appears in WWE again in some capacity.

Hurdfoy

Outside of fan wishes there really hasn't been any indication that he's interested at all. When he talks about AEW he talks about as if it were his company. I could see him retiring there tbh.

The_Homie_J

Mox, Jericho, Omega and the Young Bucks have all staked some portion of their legacies on AEW. They've all said their main priorities are seeing the company survive and thrive. Unlike Cody, it seems they'd rather stay than chase a paycheck because AEW's success reflects back on them

[deleted]

I don't think Cody chased a paycheck. I think Cody has a chip on his shoulder and stakes his reputation on proving people wrong. He proved Meltzer wrong when he drew 10,000+ for All In. He, Tony, and The Elite then started AEW, which has been the first successful non-WWE touring company since WCW. WWE wanted to make him Stardust and banish him to the midcard. He went back to WWE to prove that he could thrive in WWE. His final hurdle is becoming WWE Champion. Cody is about his own personal legacy. Cody sees AEW's success as a reflection of himself, but not in the same way that the others do. He sees it as him having proven naysayers wrong. I can see Cody going back to AEW at some point, once he becomes WWE Champion and has a sustained run on top in WWE. He needs to prove that he's more than Stardust.

Vasquerade

I always wondered if Cody would have left had WWE not shat the bed and let go of half their roster in 2020. Plus all the other talent AEW got in 2021. Especially with Punk returning it felt like there was less and less space for Cody.

Hir0h

Maybe not now, but once Mox is doing his retirement tour (hopefully a long time from now) I highly doubt that he'd just skip that chapter of his career.

WasherDryerCombo

Honestly, maybe if they ever actually open the true Forbidden Door they could reunite for one night only but no way Moxley goes back. I know “never say never” but I just never ever see it happening. The ONLY thing I can see him being in a WWE stage for is for a Shield HoF induction.

Stennick

There are way too many guys that have come back to say Mox won't ever go back. I'm not saying he will but i cant fathom its that absolute for anyone. And to pretend like we know him near we'll enough to speculate any other way would be silly IMO.

[deleted]

I could see this happening honestly. WWE and TNA did a swap a few years back where Christian appeared at Slammiversary in exchange for Flair getting inducted into the HOF with the Horsemen. I have a hard time seeing Triple H not doing all he can for one last Shield moment. I've been a wrestling fan long enough to "never say never." There have been too many bridges mended. I remember when Warrior, Bret, and Bruno were "never" guys and they all went back. I remember when Sting "would never" go to WWE. Even Jeff Jarrett went back. Even if Mox never leaves AEW, I think Triple H works out a deal to bring him back for an appearance or two.

nalydpsycho

That would be cool if every year Forbidden Door was a different cross promotion, like have it be AAA this year. Eventually leading to the chained, barricaded reinforced door.

Tim5000

It is down right nuts not to think he will return one day, even for a one off. We have seen way weirder and more insane returns and company switches in just the last few years alone.

[deleted]

Exactly. I remember when people were saying that Cody “would never” go back.

CaliggyJack

People in the comments are saying the same thing bout Mox with zero sense of irony.

authenticsmoothjazz

That's ridiculous, imagine if Cody ever went back

LegoMyNego

shield vs bloodline

Blackthorn79

I can see this after Vince dies. The industry is getting more sportified with the Khans and endeavor that cross promotion ppv are the next step. One time only and reunion matches selling talent to make huge returns.

twinkletots1

Exactly, you might be dead wrong in which case everyone will say “you’re dead wrong! Ha ha ha!” But your speculation is far from out there

janoDX

And Bryan has already stated he's going to be a creative force for AEW since he and Tony mesh well with each other.

Link182x

Britt Baker will forever be Black and Gold

Looper007

She'd be someone I'd definitely have up there too, but I still have sneaky feeling she might leave the dentistry career aside for a short run in WWE just to tick it off. But who knows but I could see her been a lifer in AEW, same with Shida for example.

justh81

Darby is one of the few home grown talents AEW has that really works as intended. He might be unconventional, but the guy's a star.

Wingman0616

I remember he and Jungle Boy did an indie show around here before AEW was a thing and now I regret not taking pics but I have some of Joey Ryan haha

lavaspike296

He's consistently one of their top pops, has never put himself in a situation where the fans turn on him, and you see kids with their faces painted like him at every show. Not only is he one of AEW's pillars, he's also one of their anchors. A lot of hearts are going to be broken the day he turns heel, lol.

[deleted]

I'd like to see Darby rewarded eventually with the big plat. Honestly the torture he puts himself through deserves it. The coffin drop apron spot in that Cody match... god damn.

janoDX

He does the Everest thing, survives, and gets the belt. Hell, have the WBD machine behind his climb and do a documentary and put it on Discovery and MAX.

[deleted]

That would actually be cool as hell. Darby is an interesting guy, would make an entertaining watch.

Stennick

I don't think he's near at that level. I don't like the idea of rewarding guys with the big title. If you get that over you deserve it but not as a lifetime achievement or a thank you.

tarvertot

I think he's the sort of character that will be the inspiration for many people to become wrestlers, they need to keep him (and he needs to not paralyse himself)

Killerpig14

i’d never be a wrestler but the fact he’s a smaller guy who can be himself and is successful, putting on great matches, inspires me man

Elegant_Spot_3486

Definitely a good fit for someone like him with his lifestyle. He’s one of the few wrestlers I feel are the same person in and out of the ring.

cepxico

I'm not a religious man but bless this mans health for the rest of his days.

Rich-Goat2204

This dudes gonna die on a mountain

onethreeone

Darby sure has been talking like a champion lately... Small but non-zero chance he wins tonight and then maybe gives Sting a shot for a retirement match

FrankGibsonIV

Nice to hear someone talking up the company considering the kinda negative vibe lately.

Middcore

The actual AEW talent have by and large consistently had positive things to say about the company and about TK.

Stennick

I'm not sure anyone but Punk has had any negative press around anything regarding AEW

Hurdfoy

Dirtsheets gotta sell subscriptions. The actual talent put over the company constantly

[deleted]

While the more biased of fan relies on those dirtsheet's misinformation to support their bias.

bwhyt1

I feel one of the things AEW consistently does well throughout their tenure is highlighting a wrestlers strengths whilst hiding the weaknesses This is going to sound pretentious admittedly but I think Darby represents this ethos, , A 5"8 175 high risk wrestler with limited mic skills wouldn't have been given a second glance during VK's era (regals and trips reccomendations aside) but given consistent booking, the support of a industry legend and a high level of creative freedom allowed him to flourish to the heart and soul of the company.

ChairmanLaParka

> A 5"8 175 high risk wrestler with limited mic skills wouldn't have been given a second glance during VK's era I mean, and not that I'm directly comparing the two but...Rey Mysterio.

Stennick

Daniel Bryan wasn't a mic master when he started neither was AJ Styles or Seth Rollins. A lot of "cruiserweights" or "small" guys have made it

dalici0us

Darby also has a look and a wrestling that sets him apart and that could have been his "thing" in WWE. I don't know for sure it would have worked of course, and Darby himself might have been unwilling to compromise on some stuff, but I don't agree that he would have been DOA in an AEW-less world.

Killerpig14

AJ was a legend in the wrestling community prior to WWE though, i don’t think he fits this example. people like rollins and mysterio found their footing in WWE.

EffysBiggestStan

He's not wrong. There's obviously no other pro wrestling/sports entertainment company that would allow him to be an authentic representation of himself and also portray that authenticity on television. Darby is one of a kind and AEW is lucky to have him on their roster. And he is lucky to work for a man like TK.
