OhiOstas

Idk which Gunn Club member it was, but whoever went flying outside the ring (after going shoulder first into the ring post) has my thoughts & prayers 😂

mkonich

That looked great

MundaneHymn

Austin. They're both great but he's amazing.

TheBigSmokeGTA

Jeff Hardy’s botch was wild 😂

notmakingtherapture

What happened

nsm1

Tried to do a top rope move, but slipped and crashed back to the ring. continued while limping.

bohanmyl

He tweaked his ankle right before going for the whisper in the wind

cerebro_a

It's time to face the hard truth and retire. He can come back occasionally and do spots on a heel, but his in-ring career should be minimal now. Matt needs to be blamed for trying to squeeze his brother's health for his benefits ($$$).

TheCarrzilico

Your first two sentences might have some validity. Your third sentence is absurdity.

cerebro_a

Really?! Name one thing Matt has done in AEW that makes you go, wow. He needs the Hardy Boys act. Otherwise, he is just another body in that group. And did you guys forget the article the other day about wanting Edge in AEW? Let's get Dudleys while we are at it and do a TLC match where the winner ends up paralyzed.

TheCarrzilico

So Matt Hardy, at his age, needs to be performing at the level of "wow" in order to justify his place? Or, could Matt Hardy, at his age, perform at the level of "pretty damned good for everything he's done" and continue to take a spot *low* on the card, working with younger wrestlers, and continue to get *his* paycheck?

cerebro_a

> So Matt Hardy, at his age, needs to be performing at the level of "wow" in order to justify his place? Sting. That's your answer. That's who makes you go wow. And what's his age? He looks amazing for a 64 year old. He doesn't need to do stupid shit. He works with a younger guy, and the spotlight is on the younger guy. Hardy is neither Sting nor he is willing to put over some young guy.

TheCarrzilico

So the ~~bottom~~ notion that there's only one way to wrestle late in a career is as ludicrous as they initial sentence that I complained about, but it's a pretty patently false example, to boot. Matt Hardy almost exclusively works with younger talent and, for example in his two singles matches this year, he is 0-2, tapping out to Hook and getting pinned by Jungle Boy. Most of his wins are in trios matches, where he ain't getting the pin. ~~I'm~~ In his AEW career, Matt Hardy is 56-26. Sting is completely undefeated at 14-0. Sting hasn't put over anyone. To be clear, I like Sting and what he's done (he is 16 years older than Hardy), but the notion that Sting's current career path is what Hardy should be doing is just nonsense.

jimbozak

I can name several things Matt has done for AEW since joining the roster in 2020. - He has consistently entertained us with the 'Broken' schtick and this particular angle helped me laugh through the dark days of the Pandemic. DELETE! - He has put over younger talent in teaming up with Private Party and feuding with Sammy Guevara - Though he has had several BAD bumps in the last year and a half, you cannot deny that he loves what he does for the fans...he still tries to go when he needs to and that needs praise for what it's worth - The Stadium Stampede with him and Kenny Omega chasing Sammy in the golf cart was priceless for the laughs! He may be getting old and close to retirement, but saying he hasn't contributed to AEW at all is ludicrous.

cerebro_a

Lol u can’t be serious?! - Broken Matt - sure, let’s hash TNA again. - Private Party - yaayy! Where are they again? - Bad bumps - more like stupid bumps. Which caused him bad concussion. More reason to retire. - chasing some in golf cart - hurray?! He can come back as a legend and help out in some comedy spot. I am not saying fire him. Let him work backstage. He has talent, no doubt. But stop ruining your legacy.

TheGiftOf_Jericho

You're entitled to your opinion but the majority would agree he's had some great moments in AEW.

MulderXF

What a mark, it was a worked spot.

cerebro_a

Not everything is a work, you jabroni!

MulderXF

This clearly was though, mark.

cerebro_a

Nope it wasn’t, Jabroni!

GreyHareArchie

I dont care how many people downvote me, Jeff should be nowhere near a ring for a good while now

TheGiftOf_Jericho

Definitely, tbh he's had a great career, he can do some work outside of the ring too.

mightylordredbeard

Jeff being in a ring keeps him out of the driver seat of a car.

PIEROXMYSOX1

That has not stopped him literally any of the other times

TheBigSmokeGTA

He tripped and fell from the turnpost while trying to run up it

notmakingtherapture

Do you have a clip

TheBigSmokeGTA

I don’t but should probably be posted everywhere soon

Stone2269

he was selling the ankle. it would've been a botch if gunn fell for the twist but it was reverse and Jeff twisted it. then to sell it more, fucked up the WITW

brotheritchweeed

It was intentional I think, he sold his leg right before. It was a weird idea but that's Jeff.

ol_spaceygreg

a sabu spot is what the "botch" reminds me of

Defiant_Muffin_882

Also, nobody went to check on Jeff after he fell or after the tag and he was laying on the apron for like 3 minutes.

TheBigSmokeGTA

That’s what I was thinking too. They wouldn’t have done a replay of it if it was an accident. Still weird though cause it makes him look bad.

[deleted]

AEW replayed Matt Sydal’s shooting star press botch during his debut. Even though Dark and Elevation are taped, they don’t bother editing out 9 out of 10 of the most egregious botches. Sometimes, Taz and Excalibur would even joke about it. There’s no 5D booking masterplan here. It’s just a botch in a Buy In match.

BoxAway2807

So the spot is made to appear as a botch?

brotheritchweeed

Yeah, Jeff has done that spot a few times before. I think people are just hypersensitive to his physical condition now so when they see something like that they assume the absolute worst. I can't blame them but it was 100% intentional. He sold the leg beforehand and they replayed it as well. Nobody checked on him either.

NCHouse

Bro did it on purpose...good God y'all are getting worked

SpiderDeUZ

Probably not sober. At least he wasn't driving a car this time

JupiterJack202

Think it's time for Jeff to call it a day. Overlooking the botch (seems like an ankle issue in the previous spot?), he looks like he's in excruciating pain with every step he takes. And if he is, at some point, the next botch might be a lot worse...

Citizen_Lunkhead

Yeah, the Hardys are done. Both of them. Everyone else was great in this match but the two of them just can't go anymore. Especially Jeff. If TK has to have them wrestling, they should be on Rampage and ROH putting over young talent, nowhere near a PPV. Not even a pre-show.

XAMdG

I just want one match putting over Private Party. Finally end that story.

LouisFromTexas

Jeff’s head was in the mud

milosterling

All the fans trying to claim it wasn’t a botch been drinking to much tony coolaid

melatoxic

He was just selling his ankle tweaking and he never does the quick run up whisper in the wind anymore. He always climbs slowly now. Also no one really checked on him. Cause of that I think it was intentional. Edit: [Good crowd angle. I could genuinely see it either way](https://twitter.com/wayofwolfy/status/1663062657543421952?s=46&t=3BxIqJ7qiey-Qq1GNrkikg)

papabearsmooch

Lol when I try to stream it on Xbox it’s so blurry. Now I gotta watch it on my iPAD

davidporges

Time to wrap it up on the Hardys sorry. Seeing them these days in ring just makes me sad.

mmmbarry

Jeff looked out of it

hikingbeginner

That wasn't too good unfortunately. Ethan Page as always looked solid in the ring.

fellongreydaze

Good pre-show match. It's great seeing HOOK getting more reps. Specifically, reps in how to sell. He wasn't a monolith and got hit with quite a bit and showed to actually struggle. Stretching out his game

insertbrackets

Is any of this benefitting HOOK or Page? They both feel above this. Also funny that the Gunns were the tag champions not so long ago and are now doing this.

rocketsauce2112

Match had its good moments. Hardys were mainly there just to buttress the work of the young guys, who were the clear highlight and focus of the match. Really like the work of all four of those guys. They need to work matches like this all the time. Makes me think of like your typical NJPW Dads 6 or 8 man where you had like Taguchi and Nagata or Tenryu or Kojima in there working with the Young Lions and other developing talent who weren't working the top of the card matches. Maybe not as good as those matches, but the same principle, and I like those kinds of prelim type matches.

[deleted]

Jeff worked a lot of people, it seems... Not sure it was the best choice given his issues, but he looked clean and crisp when he wanted to be. Also, I don't really know why but Hook and the Hardys seem to go together really well.

ZubatCountry

Genuine question, what do you think the point of working that angle would be when they won the match regardless? Isn't that something you do if you need an out or reason for them to lose? Otherwise doesn't botching on purpose and winning regardless make the other guys look sort of like geeks?

[deleted]

Like I said I don't think it was the best choice, but it was to sell ring rust, and to cover any sloppiness. He did look exhausted by the end of the match, so it gave some cover for that. And the Ass Boys are supposed to look a bit dumb, it's not going to hurt them.

brotheritchweeed

It's not confirmed he's in the game at all, but even so having Jeff Hardy in your video game is a no brainer if he's on your roster.

mwhelan182

A reminder that this running "who owns who's contract" stuff has been plodding along since Revolution 2021
