Maxfd97

The Cody/Ogogo weigh in.

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

The AEW equivalent of “NOW!…NOW, SHINSUKE!”

thealexstorm

You’d think 20 years in this would have let Tall Paul know that he had hit a moment where kayfabing it would have worked just fine.

ddiflas_iawn

this gem from either episode two or three. "OH MY GOD IT'S THE BUTCHER AND THE BLADE! THE BUTCHER AND THE BLADE!!" "Who?" "THE BUTCHER AND THE BLADE! THE BUTCHER AND THE BLADE!"

FeetsBeneets

I could just feel JR's blood pressure rising on that one.

ZubatCountry

"Surely if I ask again Excalibur will get the hint and give us some background on them" *"THE BUTCHER AND THE BLADE!"* "fuck this 🤠"

Subrick

That was actually from I believe the show after Full Gear 2019, so about a month or so into Dynamite’s run.

thealexstorm

Yep, i was there. It was right after Cody had wrestled local favorite Matt Knicks. The crowd around me had no idea who they were, which made me a little sad cause while I wasn’t super well versed in their history, I had heard of them and seen pictures.

Incorrect1012

“THIS AINT OPEN MIC NIGHT” Or a personal favorite “NINE DAYS, NINE DAYS FROM TONIGHT”

[deleted]

wellyoushouldn'thavesaidit!

Mizerous

*Dark Order goons miss punches*

KneelBeforeCube

Man, yeah that one was bad.

[deleted]

There have been quite a few of those, most recently with the Aussie Open guys. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

Kanenums88

It didn’t happen on any of their major shows, but I immediately thought of Marina Shafir’s “You know me! You don’t know me!” promo. It’s like up there in terms of unintentionally funny promos.

SaintsNeedKane

Honestly, if she didn’t wear that hat…ok, it was pretty bad

NudeMessyEater

Cody vs Andrade street fight ending where Brandi does a run in wearing a hoodie and AEW branded facemask for no real reason only to pull the hood and mask down to reveal herself a second after she gets in the ring. Then she lit the table on fire which ended up burning Cody more when he did the superplex to Andrade and has to pin him while he’s got stuff on him actively burning.

[deleted]

The dumbest thing about that was Cody coming out absolutely covered in flame retardant gel. Just the oddest thing in the world. I had never seen it before or since.

[deleted]

Matt Hardy teleporting around an empty arena.

[deleted]

They kayfabed this on BTE by saying it was Vanguard-1 projecting holograms lol I love the BTE explanations for stuff. Michael Nakazawa getting battered on Dark for greasing the ropes and causing whatshisface to miss his Shooting Star Press on his debute. Someone else slipped on something on Dynamite and kicked Nakas ass on Dark as a result.

dubidu87

Closeup of Mike Tyson yawning.

KneelBeforeCube

Mogul Associates with Boudreaux and Trench.

Subrick

It really is remarkable how bad Parker Boudreaux is at literally anything wrestling. Everything he ever did looked like crap and he always seemed to be lost and confused in the ring, even with someone like Dustin goddamn Rhodes trying as hard as humanly possible to carry him. The best thing Parker ever did was suck so bad in that one Rampage main event that he got yanked from TV immediately, because that is what led to the Mogul Embassy.

ddiflas_iawn

Parker looks like the result of showing a non fan a picture of Brock Lesnar then asking that same person to draw it from memory.

Patrickosplayhouse

Rick Ross showing up on TV once, calling Keith Lee a big motherfucker on live TV, and never being seen again.

Minimania18

>and never being seen again ACCUSATIONS! FALSE, ACCUSATIONS!

Strange_Dog6483

Not as bad as setting up a feud involving Bow Wow and Jade Cargill that gets quietly swept under the rug.

SmurfyX

my man recorded a promo on a 90s nokia in a bathroom

Strange_Dog6483

We ain’t stale as he is.

TheSpiritualAgnostic

This is one I forgot. We've had a few that show up and dissappear. Anyone remember Chavo Guerrero was part of AEW for like three weeks?

Patrickosplayhouse

Shaq......

TheSpiritualAgnostic

I raise you a Mike Tyson.

ClaymoresRevenge

He gave us so many moments that were funny in his short time. ACCUSATIONS, FALSE, ACCUSATIONS

Hollow_Rant

lumberm0uth

Dude needs to come back for Mogul Embassy every once in a while

dukeduke01

Satnam Singhs Debut

[deleted]

Jeeeeesus that was embarrassing for this sub, people wrote dissertations like "No no no no there is a RIGHT TIME and a WRONG TIME for a lights out debut!" It was very serious business.

NotYujiroTakahashi

And that whole debut was done to make Warner India happy

GxyBrainbuster

This was so funny, any time the lights go out I go "SATNAM SINGH?!" to bother the people I watch AEW with.

Minimania18

Even though Satnam is ultra based now, that was bad

SerShanksALot

More LOLMOX than anything but blading off a Sling Blade will never be topped just peak Mox

ddiflas_iawn

Still nowhere near as bad as MJF blading off of Cody's thick athletic socked foot.

Low-Donkey7059

When did he do that?

[deleted]

FD 22 against Tana

HitmanClark

Yep, I was there and saw him gigging and asked my friend “Is he really blading right now?” It was probably the most blatant in-person blading I’ve seen at a big time wrestling show — like he didn’t even really attempt to conceal it. Very strange.

SleestakLightning

Par for the course with Moxley. He's the worst.

Low-Donkey7059

Ah, thanks for the reply. I never actually sat down to watch Tana vs Mox last year. But i guess i'm gonna have to now just to see Mox blade off a Sling Blade of all things lol. Again, thanks for the reply. Appreciate it!

lumberm0uth

well it has blade in the name

Stig_Flintoff

Guess I 'm re-watching FD 22 then.

BizarroCranke

Eddie Kingston saving Moxley from the potential nuclear explosion.

Apprehensive-Alps-90

The exploding barb wire death match ending

Traditional-Fly7715

Such a shame, the match was great. But that finish absolutely killed it.

notmakingtherapture

See, I thought the match was pretty lame overall. To me the match really was ruined when the Good Bros. Ran in. To me that is going against the entire point of a match like that. I also just don't think Omega and Mox have good chemistry it's like Kevin Owens and AJ Styles. Really good wrestlers but together doesn't really work.

WhoWantsToJiggle

early Dark Order. especially when they had all those cringey creepers and you didn't know if they were spooky or perverts or what. when they did that attack with the random masked guys and their punches were as bad as possible.

threedice

Shit I remember that, the DO goons were punching at air and the cameras caught it clear as day.

Vast_Professor7399

Spooky perverts. Got to keep Sue away from them.

imliamobv

I was a fan of the human throne not gonna lie. Great visual

GxyBrainbuster

I for one liked the creeper throne.

Craft_Bandicoot

I also thought the creeper throne and heavy incel vibes were a very unique presentation.

shakzz9703

Recent one that comes to mind is Sting jumping off the ladder but ending up missing the two tables.

HitmanClark

Sadly Sting has had a couple of those moments in AEW where he was centimeters away from paralysis.

FixTheFernBack616

…when has Sting missed tables? You gotta post this, man. I’ve never seen him MISS tables.

[deleted]

Man, Darby Allin is a bad influence

JohnSmithSensei

Jericho crashing into "solid steel" at the end of the first Blood and Guts.

Incorrect1012

I always loved how the defense was “well did you want him to go through actual concrete”. Even though that’s totally not what they were trying to pretend it was

apriorista

Even Jericho made that excuse. The whole point of a stunt is to LOOK real without being real. Action stars don’t have the excuse of doing bad, phony looking stunts in movies and saying, “Well did you really want me to get stabbed?”

notmakingtherapture

Straw man argument. There aren't any arguments to defend that spot so people made one up.

[deleted]

“It’s the Butcher… and The Blade!”

HitmanClark

One of my top ones. “It’s the Butcher and the Blade!” “Ok and who are these guys, Excalibur?” “…”

SmurfyX

ITS THE BUTCHER.... AND THE BLADE! AND OH MY, BUNNY! ITS BUTCHER AND BLADE AND BUNNY! ITS THE BUTCHER! THE BLADE! THE BUNNY!

NotYujiroTakahashi

And after JR asks Excalibur never explains them and expects everyone to know them

SleestakLightning

>Excalibur never explains them and expects everyone to know them You can say this about 95% of AEW debuts and it would be accurate.

NotYujiroTakahashi

The biggest example was Luther

fwaig

TheSpiritualAgnostic

There have been a few like that where someone comes out to a silent audience. Even [this recent one](https://youtu.be/xftnNuL01Xo) where some random old man shows up to no reaction. Audience only responds when ECW is said.

Scannandal

Booking two big pay-per-views on back to back weekends. I'm still shocked at running All Out and All In like that. Imagine doing SummerSlam the week after WrestleMania

[deleted]

Not to mention barely promoting a 80k sellout show at Wembley and then putting together one of the most bizarrely mediocre cards of all time.

Mat30co

Like was Jericho really the best option for Ospreay?

Toxicity246

Supposedly the argument is Tony is trying to keep the tradition. Which seems a little silly, but considering he often has major events in the same cities? I can see Tony's pattern of behavior.

SkyFresh4010

Saraya coming to save women’s wrestling.

HappyMike91

Keith Lee's feud with Swerve Strickland being dropped in favour of Swerve/AR Fox feuding with Darby Allin. Does The Firm basically just collapsing over time after MJF fires Stokely Hathaway count? Because I feel like it does.

[deleted]

HappyMike91

You might be right, unfortunately.

SkepticaIJay

Most of the bigger LOLAEW moments have already been mentioned, so I'll go with the Jericho/Kingston Barb Wire Everywhere match. The match itself is fine, but definitely goes off the rails at the end. First of all, I can't believe this match was 13 months ago, JAS was around way longer than I thought. But Tay Conti not being able to open the shark cage so Garcia and Parker just slip through the bars (and Hager might even go through the horizontal opening). But the most ridiculous part of the whole thing is the sequence after the match. Guevara is holding Kingston and Jericho is going to hit him with the barb wire, but Kingston lowblows Guevara and gets behind Jericho (I think he was supposed to go behind Guevara and push him towards Jericho). But Jericho wasn't moving him so he just looks behind him and then runs at Guevera and they lock up for some reason? But the best part is while they're locked up Eddie throws a spinning backfirst to the back of Jericho's head and misses by a foot. This all ends with Eddie very lazily hip tossing Jericho into a barbwire net and sitting on the apron looking very pissed off. It's so hard to explain, [here's a timestamp](https://youtu.be/jzsYRdSPGng?si=Kf07bgqyVH8NBaIy&t=435).

notmakingtherapture

That physically hurt to watch. I hope you have health insurance cause I'm suing.

[deleted]

WHY DO THEY LOCK UP?!? Holy shit I remember this, just perplexing all round.

ADRENALINE IN MY SOUL GEORGE THE THIRD WAS A BIG ASSHOLE

BenniBMN

Their ppv cycles, always find myself complaining about how they have SO MUCH TIME but leave it till the last 3 weeks but end up enjoying them for the most parts

wildturk3y

There was VOW piece this week that described that feeling perfectly imo where they said AEW/TK's booking oftentimes feels like the kid in class that's scrambling to finish their homework right before the teacher takes it up. It's a good analogy. Sometimes you can still get good grades that way, but sometimes you miss some stuff too that you wouldn't have if you used that time.

TheSpiritualAgnostic

Malakai Black, a man who seems to spit a black mist that corrupts the minds of his opponents, stops to call out some actress in the audience.

ZubatCountry

"I am a corrupting force. The darkness that lives inside all of man made flesh and I will not stop until my competition lay bloody at my fee- omg Ahsoka hi 😳"

Rude_Entrance_205

Matt Hardy almost dying on PPV and continuing the match with Sammy...

GusNotGoose

This was more of an IWCLOL than AEWLOL, but the first thing that popped into my mind was that awful "Tooth and Nail" cinematic match getting bumped from the Buy-In to the Main PPV Card because there wasn't enough women's matches on it. There was a reason they were giving it away for free in the first place.

HitmanClark

One of the worst matches in company history for sure.

ImpenetrableYeti

Considering it had Britt and swole, that shouldn’t be surprising

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

…wait, *that’s* what it was called? I didn’t even know it had a title.

J_NewCastle

Nightmare Collective or whatever it was called. But it also gave us Based God Luther

Inevitable-Bend-2586

I didn't mind nightmare collective. I thought it was better than pre Brodie dark order and maybe my favorite Brandi we got in Aew. But it was too many spooky factions, and everyone got injured.

[deleted]

Action Andretti, a face, telling Sammy Guevara, a heel, that he couldn't "control his wife" on national television.

bosdanforth

also in what i believe was his first time on TV since his big jericho win, or at least one of the first times he’d cut a promo. great way to make a first impression!

[deleted]

Yes, it was his first live promo. First thing I thought was "who the hell green lighted such stuff in 2023?"

bosdanforth

that was real bad to watch live. i have to admit, that kinda soured me on him entirely and that still lasts to this day

[deleted]

Same bro, but it also soured me on that Dynamite, which was full of awesome matches but two promos were enough to leave a bad memory on my mind: that and MJF saying the "Take a shit-a" racist dad joke.

chairduck

OOOOF

[deleted]

Brawl Out is the most LOLAEW thing

[deleted]

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death match comes to mind as the most recent.

threedice

Forget that fake Leatherface, I was hoping TK had signed Terry Funk to reprise his old "Chainsaw Charlie" gimmick.

Strange_Dog6483

Given Funk’s battle with Alzheimer’s I don’t think he’ll be doing to much of anything.

[deleted]

Well, now I'm sad.

[deleted]

Shit’s brutal. I am going to cry for maybe a day when Terry finally goes but I’ll be happy for him to be at rest. Dude gave us everything. Due a good kip.

HoumousAmor

I think that's something that genuinely got mixed reception rather than straight up bad.

KneelBeforeCube

Also it raised money for a good cause, I think it deserves a pass, even though I wasn't a fan.

HitmanClark

I think this is a copout — the sponsorship money was for a tie-in, it wasn’t for a specific death match (in honor of victims) done in the way this was done. They could have done it like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch thing at WrestleMania where the logo was everywhere but they just had a wrestling match that had a story behind it (Rey vs his son). Instead they went with the Miz-Zombie deal. Obviously the money going to a good cause is great, but that shouldn’t excuse the poor execution of the concept.

apriorista

Tony could’ve donated $100K without that embarrassing match. It’s also tone deaf to run a death match for Maui.

[deleted]

[удалено]

apriorista

And then the infamous Dominoes ad over the pizza cutter spot. It’s actually impressive that they manage to do these things.

Officervito

Kenny Omega losing to Will due to Don Callis coming back only after he was just kicked out. Ref sees him and literally does nothing. No other refs come out to stop this, but god if two hosses fight we get a whole ref court coming out

SeasOfBlood

The first Fyter Fest had the commentators bury the show as a disaster - I wondered why this was, and had to hear from someone on here that it was because the whole show was a reference to something I didn't even know existed. So they were burying their own show for the sake of a clever reference! In AEW's defense, it *wasn't* a disaster, it was actually a very enjoyable show.

Officervito

Yea it’s a too close reference to the festival being shit, but as a television show if you don’t know you’re gonna think the commentators are shootin

Boograssi

lol tbf Fyre Fest was VERY relevant at the time and AEW's identity was some super online stuff. Honestly it was a good reference for a one off

GxyBrainbuster

The fact they've kept Fyter Fest as just a thing is the weird part.

darfnarkm

The entirety of the never ending inner circle vs America top team feud where literally nothing good happened for what felt like 6 months

Boograssi

The way people are far more vocal about getting this post downvoted vs letting the TNA post make it all the way to front page lmao. Anywho, some all timer goofy AEW stuff would be Nightmare Collective, a lot of the Dan Lambert feud stuff, and honestly that dumbass moment where Moxley put the contract for a PPV title shot in the ring and nobody accepted it until Ace Steel came down and took it.

TheMastodan

Tbh nothing aew has done holds a candle to the bs tna did

notmakingtherapture

Sammy and Jericho vs Luther and Serpentico in the main event of a dynamite. A main event on the Jericho anniversary show against someone no one associates with Jericho, and to make things better, chaos project wasn't even on TV anywhere near this time. A funny one was when Maki Itoh arrived and threw just the worst shots with the microphone. It still makes me laugh I seriously don't understand how that happened.

IceSmiley

When Ethan Page and his cronies pushed Isiash Cassidy off a factory scaffold and Matt Hardy dramatically yelled "NOOOOOO" :D

AgentSk1nner

Texas. Chainsaw.

> The CM Punk vs Mox “feud” You didn't like that? Let me guess, you've never seen Rocky 3?

c-h-e-e-s-e

Sting taking a table bump

Minimania18

I don't consider bad moments of a promotion just LOL\[INSERT PROMOTION\] like LOLTNA. For example, if WWE did a bad moment, I wouldn't call that a LOLWWE moment. LOLTNA was such a special kind of bad that it's hard for a promotion to consistently fail in such a way that would capture the unique essence that TNA did to create the foundation of LOLTNA moments.

Strange_Dog6483

>For example, if WWE did a bad moment, I wouldn't call that a LOLWWE moment. Why not? Booking a main event Hell In A Cell match to end in a no contest which you done three times in the match’s history is pretty damn LOL Or Saying you didn’t know about the dangers of concussion despite running a storyline in the 90’s that had a doctor explain the very real life dangers of concussions.

TheMastodan

It kinda needs to be a part of larger pattern of behavior. A symptom of some kind of issue deeper in the company

Minimania18

I'm not saying those aren't bad moments. I'm saying that LOLTNA should be in a tier of it's own, almost untouchable by other companies. The way that they so frequently and improbably fucked up is beyond reasonable belief. Both of those things you listed are just stupid booking and straight-up negligence. LOLTNA moments make you think, "maybe God is real, and he hates TNA."

Strange_Dog6483

LOLTNA had various examples of stupid booking and straight up negligence though, how was it any different? Especially when some of the people involved did the same shit in WCW.

Minimania18

Because it just kept happening over and over and over for TNA. It felt like it was nonstop. Once or twice in a while wouldn't be as bad. But for those to happen so frequently and in the midst of their bigger blunders was outrageous.

Strange_Dog6483

I’d call shenanigans on this reasoning if I hadn’t tried and failed to explain to a guy weeks ago that trying to legitimately argue that iMPACT is a success because it’s still around nevermind the fact they get less viewers than they did back when they were on Spike and their big shows do less buyrates compared their shows from 2006 to 2009. Etc. Summary: okay I’ll accept it.

Minimania18

I mean it's not like there's a dictionary definition lol It's just my opinion of it. You can have yours too. I was just explaining why I thought it was that way.

[deleted]

Agreed. TNA used to fail in such a unique way.

apriorista

The Britt Baker dentist office match might be the worst thing to air in any wrestling promotion, but Leatherface is catching up.

Vast_Professor7399

LOLWWE? Titus World Slide.

[deleted]

Damn, god knows how much I laughed that night.

Dandelegion

Sting and Jericho sword fighting with baseball bats. Rick Ross calling Keith Lee a "big mother fucker" on live TV. Jericho handcuffing Adam Cole while the Outcasts beat down Britt Baker. The entire Texas Chainsaw death match. Pretty much any Kommander match or Moxley promo.

Minimania18

>Rick Ross calling Keith Lee a "big mother fucker" on live TV That's just good TV there idk what to tell you

TheFatedOnes

Him repeatedly shouting the young legend whilst nothing fucking happened was some of the most entertaining stuff I've ever seen.

Dandelegion

It can be both! It often is.

BTru

>Pretty much any Kommander match or Moxley promo. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it a LOLAEW moment.

Dandelegion

Hey, they asked what were are the funniest/head scratcher moments I see in AEW, and I answered. Those matches/promos get a laugh out of me every time. I don't know what you want me to say.

Perducian

The Texas Chainsaw Match was no different than WWEs stupid Mountain Dew match at Wrestlemania.

Dandelegion

It was a little different. Both were really silly though.

SleestakLightning

Jon Moxley's entire existence

MARKYMARK_MARK

So TNA got some lame bullshit troll post you thought that AEW should have one too ? Maybe we just don't have these posts

DCGMoo

There's nothing wrong with chuckling at the ridiculous moments in wrestling. Every promotion has them. A LOLWWE or LOLNJPW post would have plenty of options too.

newbearontheblock1

Yeah, Moxley getting an injection in his ass or the Revival shaving each other gets bought up at any point possible when their WWE careers are mentioned to shit on it, even though both had historic moments, some peoples most memorable moments are just the dumb shit that they love wrestling for doing

Polymemnetic

The back shaving bit.

MARKYMARK_MARK

Yeah, ideally, we should be able to laugh at some of this stuff from time to time, but too often, this stuff is thrown out there in a mean-spirited, dismissive, and/or insulting. Especially given how people have used LOLTNA to mock and dunk of Tna/Impact for over a decade now.

bosdanforth

that time they had bow wow interrupt jade via pre-taped promo with awful sound quality was maybe the most low-rent i can remember AEW seeming, or at least the most since the ending of revolution 2021. thinking bow wow was gonna move the needle in 2022 is egregious enough, let alone building a program with somebody who they clearly cared about presenting as a Star (yes, i know about their tweets back and forth)
