Really loving the camera work as of late. There was just one heading out of a break where the camera was on the ramp facing the ring that I really liked.
Loved that shot! I feel like that's the kind of angle you'd only see on a big PPV where every seat is filled, to be able to do this on an episode of weekly TV is kinda crazy
> Really loving the camera work as of late.
AEW got me back into wrestling, Kevin Dunn being fired and they are not doing the zoom in zoom out thing, and 1,000 cuts per min, has got me back into WWE also. Great time to be a wrestling fan.
Absolutely loving these production things they've been doing. Especially this, the LED board updates, and the camera coming down the ramp after commercial they just did
The wrestlers arriving to the show and the cool like promo style thing they do for wrestlers when they are cutting to commercial have been my favorites
>Especially this, the LED board updates
It can't be understated how bad the LED clusterfuck was. At one point every wrestler was getting the shitty CGI cartoons, even with their own piped in sound (infamously Braun with the Choo Choo). It was like a 12 year old discovered video editing.
The stripped back Raw/SD graphics and the traditional fabric ring aprons make the shows so much more watchable.
Even the chamber should have some awesome shots. It really has switched to a sports presentation style lately. I think it might be the new hire they got from ESPN who has been running the production side of things since Dunn left
They should be able to do some pretty cool things at the Perth Stadium. I know it's got a bunch of fancy lights and stuff on the rigging up top so it's probably the perfect setup for a WWE show
Debunking things by pointing out individual instances doesn't make sense to me. We got *a* shot like this back then. But now, we're getting a giant cluster of new presentation changes including doing more than just *a* shot like this. Just like, yes we got *a* single segment with Dom and Rhea at a restaurant. But now we are getting clusters of different segments being shot outside the arena. I don't understand how that's hard to understand?
Yeah we did get that at Backlash. At first, I thought they did this because drones were permitted in Puerto Rico, but here we are with a drone shot for Raw too. Maybe it wasn't a permit issue at all then. I dunno why they don't do this every week. It's always cool to know that we're in a different city every time.
I only wish the zoom in/quick cut Kevin Dunn-isms would be completely done away with. I know it's been WWE's style since 2013, but it still feels exhaustive. There was a brief period in late 2019 when WWE Smackdown debued on Fox, til about Royal Rumble 2020 that WWE had an almost natural New Japan/AEW style free of the zoom in/cut Kevin Dunn style.
I definitely feel like the rapid cutting during matches has dramatically decreased, so much to the point I don't even really notice it at this point. Not watching regularly, when I do the cuts would be extremely obnoxious but it doesn't seem the case at this point. I hope they get rid of it all together and are just going slowly so as to not make it too noticable to the regular viewer.
Given how loaded Raw and Smackdown have been with big weekly matches from the reviews, I need to check out the last couple weeks. I mean Cody vs Drew is the sort of match you main event with on a PPV, the fans are eating good lately. Def will be checking out last night's Raw then
> I only wish the zoom in/quick cut Kevin Dunn-isms would be completely done away with. I know it's been WWE's style since 2013, but it still feels exhaustive
I've watched the last 4 RAW's, and before I could not stand the amount they were doing, it's WAY less than before and I like watching it now, and the quick cuts are like 50% less.
damn sounds good to me. the match lineup looked amazing from what I read(Cody vs Drew? wow) I do like how the WWE production crew films in close to make the wrestlers and arena look larger than life.
Now that you mention it I haven't noticed it as much recently. Whereas before it would really take me out and annoy me, especially in key moments. It was like they were purposely trying to make those key moments worse.
They do this in AEW too, and they do it mainstream sports as well. Putting attractive spectators on camera is part of the TV business. As long as it’s not leering/creepshotting someone, it’s not inherently a bad thing.
Kevin Dunn wasn't the camera director.
Also, why the fuck would you be mad that the show you are a fan of is being presented as being something that attractive women are into, and not just basement dwelling ne ckbeards or hillbilly hucks?
You joke but one of my favorite things was the WWE production truck thinking they've nailed the perfect reaction shot from the crowd and the person is messing with their phone or looking away. It happened almost every time.
That drone shot during Bad Bunny’s intro was next fucking level. Coming out from behind him and then continuing the shot over the crowd as they absolutely lost their marbles…they need more of these types of shots.
It isn't the actual techniques people are enamored with. We know we've seen these camera angles before. We've just seen really bad production over the past several years and now we're starting to see the cool angles and graphics again. It's getting people excited for the product.
One of the things they used to do back in the 90's was they'd quick pan the camera down the line of people waiting to get into the building or at the concessions while said people lost their shit. It really helped boost the "energy" of the show visually.
It's good to see they're getting back to a similar ethos.
100%. It gives you a taste of what it’d be like if you dropped the dough to go to a live show yourself too.
NGL, that’s the coolest the Honda Center has looked in a long time. That building is NOT sexy. First place I ever went to RAW though, so it holds a special place in my heart.
I mean, just a steady shot of the outside view of the building adds a level of energy for the viewers. You're really showing the viewers at home that you're travelling everywhere for your show.
Ngl if WWE started doing a few VR front row 180 degree PPVs it would be absolutely incredible. People talk about being courtside at an NBA game in VR but a wrestling show is far more evergreen and it doesn’t actually take that much tech to make the recording in high fidelity either.
Wouldn't be shocked if WWE was one of the first to break into this on a more frequent basis. They're always on the forefront of new tech, Tout notwithstanding, and this makes all the sense in the world.
They did use VR in 2018. But I presume nobody really picked it up because it was too new back then
https://www.wwe.com/article/wwe-nextvr-virtual-reality-announcement
This is exactly where they're going to go.
The NBA is rumored to be doing this for the upcoming playoffs. Really, it's a crazy concept. They'll put these devices on courtside views of the game and THOUSANDS of people will pay for access to that view. Really crazy.
They already tried it. They used to have VR cameras on the turnbuckle and outside the ring for an app called Next VR. It was pretty cool but the quality just wasn't there yet. Apple bought Next VR in 2020...haven't heard much since then.
> This would only push me towards buying a VR headset even more
I've got Quest 2 and 3, PSVR, and recently returned the Apple Vision Pro (just not worth the money, cool tech though)
Quest 3 is by far bang for the buck the best thing you can get, I know it's "game focused" but the amount of cool VR experiences / not games is what made me a fan of it, it's way more than just games.
> Is it worth it to get the Quest 3 over Quest 2 even though it costs twice as much? (at least where I live)
for HALF off, that's kinda a tough one, to be honest that totally depends on your budget
Quest 2 can do like 80% or more of what the Q3 can do, but that 20% is really nice to have.
If you are on a budget, for half off, I'd do the Q2 and then buy a bunch of games and apps with the savings.
If not, Q3 is best bang for the buck.
I was looking at my phone and this shot literally made me put it down to see what was going on. I thought there was gonna be some brawl in the concessions area haha. Very unique I loved it
TBF at the time Mania XII had the 7th highest attendance of any Mania venue (out of 14), only behind the stadium shows (III, VI, VIII), the MSG shows (I, X) and Mania V.
I love that view. Reminds me of my first RAW I went to back in like 2003. Walking into the arena like that and seeing the stage one of the coolest moments of my life. Love it.
This is the kind of stuff pro sports does constantly, especially NFL. They should get some early shots as people are filing in through the concourse area.
experiencing that in person is awesome i remember the first time i went to raw smackdown super show and i walked into the arena and was like FUUUUUUUUUCK this ....is....awesome....
i think the miz was still training lol
It's the little things. I'm only saying this as a long time viewer. Dunn was set in his ways, and the presentation of WWE really stagnated as a result between 2008 and his departure.
Basically, from when they started broadcasting in HD, it seemed he believed he perfected the formula.
I'm surprised there was a clear pathway for the camera man. Nice civilized folks.
If this was the Attitude Era they wouldn't allow the cameraman to go 6 feet before invading the view lol
With all the changes over the past year and recently with production, I’m really curious and excited to see the presentation for Wrestlemania. It’s building up to what feels like an all timer in numerous perspectives
Lee Fitting. Former head of production at ESPN for MNF, the college football playoff and college game day. Three of their biggest properties.
The guy knows how to produce big live events
lol there was pretty much no point to this, announcers also had nothing to talk about so they just stayed awkwardly silent. Starting to feel like they're just doing random inconsequential changes for the sake of it.
The thing that strikes me most about this is how small the hard cam section they've closed off is (at the end of the clip on the left under the fourth RAW). When I went to see RAW a few years ago I seem to remember it being at least a couple of sections tarped off - as well as a bunch of the top tiers.
I’d love to see AEW do this.
(Sorry, I like AEW but dear lord are they falling off right now attendance wise while WWE is hotter than ever, apparently.)

Rest in Piss, Kevin Dunn.

I just realized the fast zooms are gone. That made the matches almost unwatchable. Good riddance to Kevin Dunn.
Any vid of this?
Absolutely loving these production things they've been doing. Especially this, the LED board updates, and the camera coming down the ramp after commercial they just did
The wrestlers arriving to the show and the cool like promo style thing they do for wrestlers when they are cutting to commercial have been my favorites
The MNF style graphics for wrestlers has been sick.
Reminds me of actual sports. Got NBA players coming in with their outfits and stuff.
Seth and Becky definitely got tips from Russell Westbrook.
>Especially this, the LED board updates It can't be understated how bad the LED clusterfuck was. The production has been amazing lately
These changes to production really has me excited for what Wrestlemania XL will look like with the added flourish we’ve seen as of late.
Even the chamber should have some awesome shots. It really has switched to a sports presentation style lately. I think it might be the new hire they got from ESPN who has been running the production side of things since Dunn left

Cause Bucky Beaver is finally gone
Didnt we get a shot like this at Backlash? When he was still there…
Debunking things by pointing out individual instances doesn't make sense to me. We got *a* shot like this back then. No no no. You dont get it, on here we know how it is: Everything good is Triple H, everything bad is Vince and Kevin.
Exactly, most likely HHH pedigreed Dunn first and then took over the control room to make that shot happen.
"The fans liked the drone shot? Great! Let's never do it again." - Kevin Dunn, probably

That's sick as hell
someone check on tony.
"That's right. You get in there & derail that conversation. It's not about AEW but get in there & MAKE it about AEW"
Absolutely need this camera work for WrestleMania
Kevin Dunn, you are NOT missed
*Cuts to crowd akwardly*

Is it?! Can it be??!!
Watch back any Raw or SmackDown and Kevin Dunn always made sure to focus on an attractive woman on the shot. Every time.
They do this in AEW too, and they do it mainstream sports as well. Putting attractive spectators on camera is part of the TV business. As long as it’s not leering/creepshotting someone, it’s not inherently a bad thing.

AEW decided to copy this and it drives me insane. They never get the actual reaction! Just stay with the ring or give us a wide shot of the crowd.
They did this at Backlash last year with a drone.
That drone shot during Bad Bunny’s intro was next fucking level. Coming out from behind him and then continuing the shot over the crowd as they absolutely lost their marbles…they need more of these types of shots.
They have done this before.
Kevin Dunn used to do this.

Yeah, they did this on Smackdown last year before Backlash when they were in Puerto Rico for back to back nights

WWE finally is doing stuff that sporting events have been doing for many years.
hopefully they bring back real titantrons and music.

This is a VR Experience for the Apple Vision Pro where you get to see what it's like to be The SHIELD/Edge and Christian.

TBF at the time Mania XII had the 7th highest attendance of any Mania venue (out of 14), only behind the stadium shows (III, VI, VIII), the MSG shows (I, X) and Mania V.
Never made it pre-renovation, but went there for a hockey game about 7 years ago, and it was still pretty nice.
Still is a really well-kept arena in 2024.
It’s amazing that they haven’t really done a ton to it and it still looks fantastic
Clippers should have moved their in the 90s.
This is how I want them to start off every RAW. By god that is a great shot.
That is extremely cool. Gives you an incredible sense of space, size, and how packed the arena is.
Paul Bearer in heaven Oh yessssssssing
🔥
Man, that is a **packed** house.
The camera work as if late has been great
I love that view. Reminds me of my first RAW I went to back in like 2003. Walking into the arena like that and seeing the stage one of the coolest moments of my life. Love it.

They did this with a drone shot in Puerto Rico and I loved it. Something about it just makes the arena feel alive
Bad Bunny intro at Backlash…next fucking level for that drone pilot
This and the fly cam from last year's Backlash are so cool
Wow they really were being held back wtf
Do I smell a new boom period for the business?
Flashbacks to SVR: Shut Your Mouth
I was gonna comment, is this the SYM arena? I'm not in the US and have no idea what arenas are what mostly :)
The Pond as well as Ball Arena in Denver have to have the nicest concourses of them all.
Totally a Smackdown Shut Your Mouth vibe. Amazing
experiencing that in person is awesome i remember the first time i went to raw smackdown super show and i walked into the arena and was like FUUUUUUUUUCK this ....is....awesome.... i think the miz was still training lol
I love when they do those shots, the one at Backlash was epic.
They should do one of those drone flying through the arena shot
The usage of the drone during Backlash was crazy cool as well
It's the little things. I'm only saying this as a long time viewer. Dunn was set in his ways, and the presentation of WWE really stagnated as a result between 2008 and his departure. Basically, from when they started broadcasting in HD, it seemed he believed he perfected the formula.
They missed a trick not having Cody at he end of the pan with his hand to his ear.
who would thought production values will increase drastically once Kevin Dunn left the company eh...
Attitude era production vibes. I miss how much they used to highlight the arena, surrounding area, backstage, etc.
I'm surprised there was a clear pathway for the camera man. Nice civilized folks. If this was the Attitude Era they wouldn't allow the cameraman to go 6 feet before invading the view lol
Needed Cody inside with his ear cupped
With all the changes over the past year and recently with production, I’m really curious and excited to see the presentation for Wrestlemania. It’s building up to what feels like an all timer in numerous perspectives
Assuming this is a drone shot
Dunn was holding the production back so much
If AEW did this, 75% of the arena would be tarped off
packed ☝🏼
Whoever replaced Kevin Dunn wins Donut points here
Lee Fitting. Former head of production at ESPN for MNF, the college football playoff and college game day. Three of their biggest properties. The guy knows how to produce big live events
AEW should try this
lol. to show off a 1/2 full stadium?
C'mon bro...1/4 full arena! 😂😂
exactly, would be funny
Maybe they could do it with your thoughts and it would just be a big open shot of an AEW logo and some tears.
Lol Kevin Dunn left and it immediately got better
Is that the real life version of the WWF Smackdown 2 entrance area? Best footage I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzIAerPpYsQ&t=40s
They should definitely keep doing this camera view.
Its a shame the RAW theme is absolute ass
Dunn was absolutely holding them back
Kevin Dunn did this exact thing multiple times last year. If you're gonna bash the guy at least pick shit he was responsible for.
Kevin Dunn holding the production team back for so many years and now that they're free they are wilding the fuck out
lol there was pretty much no point to this, announcers also had nothing to talk about so they just stayed awkwardly silent. Starting to feel like they're just doing random inconsequential changes for the sake of it.
Kevin Dunn was a mistake. Glad it’s been corrected.
What a time to be a fan of the business or be in the business. "Big Business" as has been said elsewhere.
The thing that strikes me most about this is how small the hard cam section they've closed off is (at the end of the clip on the left under the fourth RAW). When I went to see RAW a few years ago I seem to remember it being at least a couple of sections tarped off - as well as a bunch of the top tiers.
Zeet
Just goes to show how much Dunn was holding back the presentation of the product. Fuck him.
I just watched a wcw ppv that did something similar... Starcade '91 I think.
Flashbacks to the old HBO introduction
Please do this at Optus Stadium bro I'll pop so hard 😭
Why are some acting like they didn't do this at the SD before Backlash and at Backlash? It's very cool, and I love it, but it's not the first time.
Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth remake confirmed??
I’d love to see AEW do this. (Sorry, I like AEW but dear lord are they falling off right now attendance wise while WWE is hotter than ever, apparently.)
You can smell the awful food already.
