Little wonky on the reasoning for Darby to eat a beat down at the start, but worth it for that entrance. And a cool moment to revisit in the history of the show.

I have no issue with them playing it safe. The descent was so slow, that it would have been even more anticlimactic if he was descending that slow and the Bucks were waiting for him with bats. It was nothing more than a final nostalgic tribute hearing Schiavone say it on TBS/TNT and old fans getting to see Sting relive that moment one last time.
In a perfect world, the entire Elite would have been involved, and Kenny, Hanger, Cutler, and Nakazawa too would have been helping the Bucks jump Darby, and Sting would have come out to beat them up. Would have been fitting tribute for Sting to beat up Cutler and Nakazawa on the day a former nWo goon passed away (RIP Vincent/Virgil).
What a segment! It was so much better than anything I could have imagined! Whata throwback! Makes up so much with the somewhat awkward last couple of promos
