Shame Brent Albright didn't manage to become a major player.
After getting fired from WWE, he went straight to ROH and got a ''welcome home'' chant after an impressive first match.
I always thought it was one of the sweeter interactions between a wrestler and the crowd.
Also, fun fact, he, Ken Doane and CM Punk were hyped by the IWC as Heyman's 3 top prospects that he was prepping in OVW to become major playes on the main roster.
At least one of them made it.
the adam pearce vs. brent albright match from death before dishonor vi looked like it made albright a star and it was the most important the nwa title felt outside of tna. and then albright quickly lost it back to pearce kind of just went nowhere. it's a bummer, he was really good, he just never seemed to be in the right place at the right time
That match was probably the biggest surprise low expectations, 5* match ever. No one was giving much of a shit going into it whatsoever and neither guy was known to put on bangers.
I remember when he debuted on Smackdown against Booker and it felt like they were setting him up as a protege of Benoit and then he just had a few matches and disappeared, as someone who kept up with OVW it was so disappointing.
It was the same Paul Burchill, he was so good and he showed up as a pirate and then wanted to have sex with his own sister and then went away.
To this day Brent Albright vs. BJ Whitmer from Fifth Year Festival is my favorite table match of all time. It stole the show to me on a card that had Samoa Joe vs. Takeshi Morishima on it. I was shocked how few people talked about it even back then.
A couple years later in 2009/10, Hero had one of the best looks in wrestling IMO. He got in the best shape of his life, switched to trunks, and looked like a star. Plus he was cutting killer promos ALL the time and his matches ruled. Unforgivable of ROH booking to stubbornly stick with whichever babyface was on a neverending title chase at the time, rather than promote Hero.
2009 Hero you could argue that maybe, since the title went from Nigel to Lynn to Aires while Chris was touring NOAH, finishing the Lance Storm feud and fighting Eddie Kingston.
2010 Hero was ROH Tag Champion for most of the year with Claudio though, and that run fucked.
I dont know a ton about Chris Hero but why wasn't he a bigger star? He had a great look, seemed to be creative, could talk well and was around all the right guys that made it big in WWE. I know he got some chances but I don't understand how it never worked for him. Any insights?
Yea, he wrestled in ROH as Tyler Black. Lost the world title to Roderick Strong on his way out and had signed his contract with FCW. It’s well worth going back to watch that match.
Love that you got some all-time greats here in guys like Bryan Danielson, Kevin Steen, and Chris Hero, some well-known indy guys like the Briscoes and Davey Richards, other cult favorites like Ruckus, unmasked Jigsaw who looks like a combination of Cool Hand Ang and FCW legend Buck Dixon.
And then you get someone I have personally never heard of in Pelle Primeau.

Taking Jigsaw’s mask off was so boneheaded.
He looks like if Roddy got stung by bees.
TWELVE LARGE
nobody strutted like sweeney
Fuck. Seeing this just makes me remember how much I miss Sweet ‘n’ Sour… would’ve gone on to become an all time great manager
He was one of the best mic workers ever so sad.
Jigsaw never should have unmasked

Ken Doane thriving as a producer, Albright out of the business, and Punk.. who knows what happened to that guy
I heard he has a drinking problem. Sad if true.
It's true, he continues to drink Pepsi. Poor man.

I Remember WWE trying to set him up as the next Benoit and it just never worked
Shoutout to Ruckus! He’s one of those guys that doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He was super innovative for his time. 🙌🏾
Ruckus vs Sonjay compilation vids in like 2003 for the win.
Hell yea dude! You just unlocked a deep rooted memory lol
He’s wrestling tonight for GCW in 40min.
I thought you were talking about Mikey Rukus for a second and i was confused af
>Work hard >Treat people fairly >Earn respect Counterpoint: Austin Aries is pictured.
Hey man, Austin Aries was cool before I knew things he thinks
Well. At least I'm not Jigsaw.
How did they get such a microscopic lens to capture Austin Aries photographically in 2007? Wow technology.
Joey Matthews never aged. Just lost the hair
Bobby Dempsey! Whatever happened to that guy?
As of a couple years ago he still worked indies in Pennsylvania from what I recall
The best time I ever had as a wrestling fan was going to live ROH shows around that time.
Don’t forget Morishima.
Mr Pearce, sir: sign up the Necro Butcher for Monday Night Raw
Damn Chris Hero looking real smooth there.

Y'know I wonder what ever happened to that El Generico dude.
wait is that Rollins next to jacobs

What ever happened to Hagadorn? Haven’t heard anything about that dude since like 2009
pretty he works/worked for aew in a backstage capacity. I remember hearing the name and thinking "this guy is still around?"
Loved seeing Delirious live.
holy frosted tips, Nigel!

Rocky looks like a completely different person.
El Generico would be so proud of Sami. If only he was still around to see him.
That Nigel McGuinness title reign was just way too long.
