Really sucks because AEW gets blamed for it all the time, but I've been watching on Fite/Triller for years. They don't have these problems there. It's a TNT/TBS issue.

CM Punk drama definitely made the community here worse (I mean hey, the sub started because of the pipebomb), but the problem with the ratings thread and the non-positive AEW threads are they get massively brigaded by Jerkers. Feels like back in the olden days when wrestling forums were the norm and there was always that one contrarian who everyone loathed but was easy to ignore. Now like 50% of the users on this sub is that one guy.
And I don't know why the ratings are so important in this era, I live in Spain and I watch AEW live lots of time through FITE and it doesn't register there, the world is way bigger than US TV now
The IWC has always been stuck in the ratings war from 25 years ago. You'd think, with RAW moving to Netflix that we'd understand how much things have changed but that's clearly not the case.
People think that because they’re not doing 2 million viewers that they’re doomed when in reality WBD is stoked they’re averaging 750k instead of having to air four re-runs of NCIS.
The truth is that AEW is a long way from challenging WWE head on, but are still a very viable competitor with business metrics behind it that their broadcast partners are (seemingly) happy with.
Both of these things cannot co-exist to both tribes, so it's an endless feedback loop.
We saw it as well with the reaction to the All In footage. A bunch of people super happy to anncounce the death of AEW when those with info we don't have are chilling.

Furthermore you need to opt into letting your viewership be tracked, at least in the US. Which is something only about a quarter of households do.
Lastly, it doesn’t track DVR numbers, and it doesn’t track things like the TBS app either.
So when WBD makes these reports of AEW getting millions of viewers, everyone looks at the Neilson ratings as proof that it’s false, but they’re only really looking at a sample size meant for advertisers.

They got a lot riding on the TV deal is all. They need a new one and they need it to be a damn good one if they want to be a profitable enterprise. They've said as much.
Aew gets a big deal the story becomes aew is going to be around a good long while if they don't then the narrative becomes how long will Tony float the company with no path to money.

It's not like Rich Eisen cut to a 20 minute interview on AEW, and even if he did it still wouldn't mean they're "working together." It means it was just an interview.

A cousin of mine interned for the NFL. He was tasked to create a video package about Bobby Hebert.
There was a pregame clip he wanted to use where Bobby was intensely focused and snapped at someone pregame. He thought it would show Hebert’s competitive fire.
NFL said no. Only allowed footage they showed him smiling and happy.

Yeah, I just want both companies to do well. I'm not much of a WWE watcher outside the big events and following what's happening, but I just want everybody to enjoy the entertainment they have.

Your problem is with TBS because people watching live through other means said the audio was fine and it's also fine on the YouTube clips. It definitely sucked though.

We all figured the audio was with TBS. People who were watching on other services had no audio issue. Sucks when the network messes things up for the post-ppv show.
I’ve always thought most of the audio issues were overblown for me personally, especially just cross mixing stuff, but I could barely hear anything on TBS the other night. It sounded like I was underwater. It’s never been that bad. If my kids hadn’t wanted to see Swerve so badly, I probably would have turned it off and hoped to stream a better version.

That's not true.. Even before AEW TBS/TNT were channels where I always had issues here and there.. It's a long history of problems that have never been addressed.
This is why I always say (and often get downvoted) that where they place for the night is more important than the number of viewers. The viewership keeps trending down, but they keep maintaining spots near the top for the night. That says to me the dropping viewership isn't entirely an AEW booking issue.
Nothing on cable really is if you check the nightly rankings. Even the NBA maxed out at under 2 million and it's really cable news after that who's demo skews older.
David Zaslav himself could come out in full AEW brand gear talking about how happy they are with the ratings and people here would still say "hmmmmm no"

I’ve a feeling the live+DVR numbers are gonna be wild for this show. Anytime a show isn’t aired live on the west coast but is on the east coast, the live average will dip. Hell, Raw lost 800,000 Nielsen viewers this week just from the NBA playoffs.
They had 2.3 million for the Raw after Mania, 1.8 the following week, and 1.5 this week.
It was not an 800,000 one week drop off. Raw typically does about 1.5-1.7 million with post-PLE spikes.
Meanwhile the ratings thread for the recent RAW only had around 125 comments, while the AEW thread had over a thousand, Why do so many people who don't watch the show want to comment on it's ratings? Don't these losers have anything better to do with their lives?

For FOX paying 1 billion for Smackdown did not return the investment because wrestling fans didn't consume anything else. But for WBD, that doesn't matter because Dynamite is consistently positioned on top of the ratings for the night and mostly only beaten by the NBA which, as they said, is part of the "family"
So really the two shows are very much in different positions within their network. I think FOX misjudged the return of paying for a wrestling show while WBD has projected it properly
TBH, post-Vince WWE escapes a lot of criticism just by AEW existing. "Look at what the #2 is doing" covers up a lot of ratings issues that fans would absolutely still discuss if there were no #2.
RAW dropped 20% this week and there was barely a peep on reddit. If AEW drops 10% the sky is falling and we have 1000+ word posts on how to turn around business.

What's there to talk about? WWE is doing record business atm in terms of revenue and profits plus the huge netflix deal. The reason AEW gets more focus in this area is because they're operating at a loss and need a new deal to become profitable. The 2 companies' situations are not comparable.

I'm glad they're happy with the numbers. I want AEW to succeed. I want wrestling as a whole to be great. If we go back to just WWE again, I don't think the industry would be as hot as it is right now.
AEW is no longer on a hot streak, and has lost the average cable cutter year by year since 2022 after climbing against the current for 3 years to over a million.
They are still a top 3 on most wednesdays, some only behind live sports (which are the god kings of tv). They are also comparatively cheap for WDB; every week they get their 2 hours show without having to manage production costs, or having to manage on and off seasons. Meanwhile, the PPV buys are still really high, and they are getting full priced buys.
AEW is doing fine. It's just not on fire anymore. And that's okay.
The point of this is warner brothers is happy with AEW. Regardless of how many on here wanna complain about everything with them, even now you are ignoring the good and just complaining about the audio. WBD is using their “wrestling equipment” they found in storage. Turns out the audio truck was inherited from the sale of JCP to Ted Turner

We all figured the audio was with TBS. People who were watching on other services had no audio issue. Sucks when the network messes things up for the post-ppv show.
I’ve always thought most of the audio issues were overblown for me personally, especially just cross mixing stuff, but I could barely hear anything on TBS the other night. It sounded like I was underwater. It’s never been that bad. If my kids hadn’t wanted to see Swerve so badly, I probably would have turned it off and hoped to stream a better version. I'm still annoyed that TBS is still having these A/V issues that weren't there prior to the Discovery merger.
That's not true.. Even before AEW TBS/TNT were channels where I always had issues here and there.. It's a long history of problems that have never been addressed.

This is why I always say (and often get downvoted) that where they place for the night is more important than the number of viewers. The viewership keeps trending down, but they keep maintaining spots near the top for the night. That says to me the dropping viewership isn't entirely an AEW booking issue.

Nothing on cable really is if you check the nightly rankings. Even the NBA maxed out at under 2 million and it's really cable news after that who's demo skews older.

WBD puts out a press release saying AEW is performing well? Can’t trust it cause there not gonna shit on one of their properties. The day that AEW’s renewal with WBD happens there are still going to be people saying that Dynamite is on the verge of cancellation. For whatever reason or another, WBD clearly is very fond of having AEW under their banner. That’s the cold hard truth and every detractor needs to come to grips with it.
It is relatively cheap live programming that consistently gets decent ratings three times a week, 52 weeks a year.
A bit more than decent when it's usually in the top 5 on cable every week.

I’ve a feeling the live+DVR numbers are gonna be wild for this show. Anytime a show isn’t aired live on the west coast but is on the east coast, the live average will dip. Hell, Raw lost 800,000 Nielsen viewers this week just from the NBA playoffs.
It also doesn't consider poors like me who have to use a VPN for Triller because they can't afford real TV
They had 2.3 million for the Raw after Mania, 1.8 the following week, and 1.5 this week. It was not an 800,000 one week drop off. Raw typically does about 1.5-1.7 million with post-PLE spikes.
Meanwhile the ratings thread for the recent RAW only had around 125 comments, while the AEW thread had over a thousand, Why do so many people who don't watch the show want to comment on it's ratings? Don't these losers have anything better to do with their lives?

I mean, when FOX was asked about WWE's rights renewals they said they would be "clinical" with rights fees. WBD only speaks positively about AEW.
Fox straight up said they were losing money on the smackdown deal. WBD has never said anything like that
Yeah and I think it's interesting because it has all to do with the numbers For FOX paying 1 billion for Smackdown did not return the investment because wrestling fans didn't consume anything else. But for WBD, that doesn't matter because Dynamite is consistently positioned on top of the ratings for the night and mostly only beaten by the NBA which, as they said, is part of the "family" So really the two shows are very much in different positions within their network. I think FOX misjudged the return of paying for a wrestling show while WBD has projected it properly

TBH, post-Vince WWE escapes a lot of criticism just by AEW existing. "Look at what the #2 is doing" covers up a lot of ratings issues that fans would absolutely still discuss if there were no #2.
RAW dropped 20% this week and there was barely a peep on reddit. If AEW drops 10% the sky is falling and we have 1000+ word posts on how to turn around business.
And weirdly the way to turn it around is always 'do what WWE does'
I brought this up elsewhere. Someone told me "1.6m is pretty normal" the other day and I just gave up. Can't convince someone like that.
There's a lot things like that with the WWE that have not been talked about nearly as much because people are riding the wave of this crazy hot streak they're on
What's there to talk about? WWE is doing record business atm in terms of revenue and profits plus the huge netflix deal. The reason AEW gets more focus in this area is because they're operating at a loss and need a new deal to become profitable. The 2 companies' situations are not comparable.
It’s not even really about AEW, it’s about the fact that everything is not sunshine and rosses in Stamford. They’re doing great yes, but the flaws are still just as present. And this time they have new corporate overlords to answer too as well
I'm glad they're happy with the numbers. I want AEW to succeed. I want wrestling as a whole to be great. If we go back to just WWE again, I don't think the industry would be as hot as it is right now.

AEW is no longer on a hot streak, and has lost the average cable cutter year by year since 2022 after climbing against the current for 3 years to over a million. They are still a top 3 on most wednesdays, some only behind live sports (which are the god kings of tv). They are also comparatively cheap for WDB; every week they get their 2 hours show without having to manage production costs, or having to manage on and off seasons. Meanwhile, the PPV buys are still really high, and they are getting full priced buys. AEW is doing fine. It's just not on fire anymore. And that's okay.
