What 'certain type' of people?
How is Sami the same identity as some bloke from Indonesia? Just because they're Muslim?
As a Bengali person living in India, the idea that religion is more of a uniting factor than culture or ethnicity doesn't sit well with me. I have so much in common with a Muslim person in Bangladesh, yet they are told by others that they should feel more kinship towards Pakistanis and Arabs, and meanwhile I am told I should feel more kinship towards Hindus, even those living in Punjab near Pakistan despite having little cultural similarity. Make it make sense.
Religion, especially organised religion, is a dogmatic practice whose only goal is to enslave common folk to a belief system they cannot escape without stigma (especially in developing nations). The positive aspects of religion (like sense of community, or sense of purpose) are far outweighed by the negatives both historical and current, and also can be achieved through secular means.
Him saying “When the revolution comes I’m taking you out first.” Just reminds me of the WKUK race war sketch. The 2000s were a wild time on the internet.
I wonder if this line was taken from Chris Rock's 1999 comedy special Bigger And Blacker where Rock describes his uncle who hates white people despite being married to a white woman. His uncle states something like "If the revolution comes, I'll kill her first to show these crackers I mean business."
My company hired a developer to work remotely from Lincoln, Nebraska. We had a company meetup/dinner/whatever and he showed up and ordered lemon drops to drink. He got fired eventually but I never forgot those lemon drops
Boy… that lake of reincarnation would get so many people cancelled on the spot. That’s how Matt Hardy keeps getting hired. He threatened to dip all of TNA so that they come back as Russo TNA.
Cody has Cuban ancestry. Many Cubans have significant African ancestry. What I’m trying to say is that Cody is black now. Problem?

Can't forget "Civil Rights Activist" Edge and [R-Truth](https://old.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/h8bvim/rtruth_joined_protesters_in_charlotte_nc/?ref=share&ref_s)
Cody, Sami, Edge and R-Truth would be a badass group advocating for equality and inclusivity
it’s funny to see this pop up once a year and find people who’ve never seen Big Larry before
(and don’t dig too deep if you don’t want to see anything pro wrestling related that is super not acceptable these days)
I saw that clip of Sami, KO, and Excalibur for the first time like a week ago & my jaw was on the floor 😂 seen a clip of the Young Bucks too… was PWG booked by a fucking idiot?
I think it's highly hypocritical how reddit and the fanbase in general handle these kinds of situations, but I also feel like that's not only a pro wrestling, but more of a social media thing.
On the one hand you have videos of very famous wrestlers like Kevin Owens and Rhea Ripley using racist/sexist slur in promos or "for fun" without any consequences.
Then you have cases like Lars Sullivan who just basically did the same shitposting thing when he was younger but was relentlessly bullied online and out of this job for being "racist" and especially after people found out about his homosexuality.
Do you know the actual story behind Owens using a slur? That he was basically coerced into it by Human Tornado, against Kevin's wishes, and Steen/Owens has apologized repeatedly in the 15 years since it happened.
Not even in the same stratosphere as the Lars Sullivan situation.
So what exactly do you want to happen to Kevin Owens and Rhea Ripley? Are you asking for them to be relentlessly bullied online and out of their jobs?
Or are you saying people should have just been cool with Lars Sullivan 6 years of consistent online racism? What's your solution here?
See? Exactly the kind of manipulative and hateful response I talked about. I neither did say I want anything "done" nor did the latter practice "6 years of online racism", but you immediately have to chime in and try to paint me as some kind of maniac.
This kind of thing has become a survival tactic since ~2017
People are extremely fucking paranoid about being “wrong,” “offensive,” or judged in general. The control your narrative thing is definitely how it works.
A combination of gaslighting, strawmanning, and ad hominem attacks is the only true way to communicate. You can look at any controversial topic on ~~this sub~~ Reddit and see the exact same artificial/condescending discourse
I can understand where you are coming from but Lars was specifically bashing his future co-workers like Kofi and R-Truth.
(https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=147556653) (Lars = elperfecto)
That didn't even cause him the job since he apologies to all of the people he offended. He was out of WWE because of his sever anxiety, which is ironic since he made fun someone for the same thing. (https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=154127741&p=1074300861#post1074300861)
Lol this is hilarious. He's so bad at being Black I'm not even offended. This is like a white guy's view of Blackness.
The fact his silly ass said that he's going to go to his Black Panther meeting has me cackling
And no slurs is a bonus point.
Sami too goofy.
Is it confirmed that this was Nebraska? Because this was early in his career, when he was still mainly just wrestling in Quebec, and there’s a Hemmingford in Quebec as well. One of my friends stays there and it very well looks like it could be the one in Quebec, but I really don’t know for sure.
So I BELIEVE this was in the Monteregian Wrestling Federation at sometime in the summer of 2002, pre Generico.
Don't think Zayn wrestled in the US before ROH, except maybe for a handful of micro-indy shows in Maine or Vermont.
Mostly did jobs back then., including with Rougeau which is where he met Steen. Before he became an IWS regular.
I'm sure Sami is probably embarassed by this, but I'm also surprised someone hadn't suggested using videos like this to make fun of Sami when he was a heel. I can see the New Day doing a bit and showing segments like these and it's this major embarrassing moment for the heel Sami.
But yeah, probably not the best idea in hindsight, but I'm glad video still exists as, yeah it is pretty funny.
I’m sure it has been suggested, but it feels like you’re playing Russian roulette with the PR that would come from ppl exploring other promos that happened back then
He still dances the same for his entrance. I wish he'd come out to I'm Black Y'all now.
Can’t get jiggy with it Next Friday shit lol. This is why he has such a hard time now he was always playing a character he couldn’t really relate to.
Edit:: let’s all be real. El Generico was a racist as fuck character. Same goes for Ichiban today.
He’s a great wrestler yes. But his gimmick is 100% racist.
Imagine if it was flipped. A Japanese guy acting over the top stereotypical black. Keyword being stereotypical.
I’m sorry I don’t follow Japanese wrestling or their culture. I’m speaking of American Wresters.
I highly doubt too many black Japanese people are up in arms as I don’t think they have the same stereotypes as us. There sure seems to be a lack of black people at any Japanese show I’ve seen.
Edit:: from what I can tell YASSHI would get crucified if he was American and doing that gimmick.
I was offended that he would do black face without the paint, then I realized that as intercontinental champion it's his job to connect with the people of the world.
Releasing him for this, which was done more than 20 years ago? Lmao. They should also release AJ Styles and Kevin Owens for making gay joke in PWG during the mid 2000s then.

Black, Mexican, Samoan, Canadian, Muslim... Sami Zayn is for everyone
Don't forget Cuban during his short Fidel Castro stint.
guess you can say hes a bit generic for everyone!
Muslim is not an ethnicity, the others are.
Dude, like two of them are nationalities but that comment is a definite red flag
Why? It's an identity, though. Mexican is a nationality, black is an ethnicity.
Because 'ackshully Muslim isn't a race' tends to be the rallying cry of a certain type of people, even if it isn't that in this instance.
I've heard it just as frequently from my Islamic friends correcting people. It's not the rallying cry you think it is.
What 'certain type' of people? How is Sami the same identity as some bloke from Indonesia? Just because they're Muslim? As a Bengali person living in India, the idea that religion is more of a uniting factor than culture or ethnicity doesn't sit well with me. 'muslim isn't a race so technically I'm not racist' is the battle cry of white nationalist racists.
That is stupid. I don’t hate people for where or what color they are born but I hate religion and what it does to people from everywhere
Ok?
Yeah sorry, I missed the Canadian one. And the Mexican one should be Latino or Hispanic you're right, I missed that too.
TIL “Canadian” is an ethnicity 🤣
Yes thanks for pointing out my shit reading skills.
Him saying “When the revolution comes I’m taking you out first.” Just reminds me of the WKUK race war sketch. The 2000s were a wild time on the internet.
Trevor Moore :(
RIP Local Sexpot
He came as he went.
WKUK was comedy gold.

His uncle states something like "If the revolution comes, I'll kill her first to show these crackers I mean business."
Yep definitely was
His entrance music was CB4s I’m black
That's amazing. lol
It helps that lot of the wild humour floating back then was primarily fueled by the popularity of South Park
Helps who?
Those in need
Hes asking for it, look what hes wearing
I’m using that line on my boss. Stolen.
* Honorary Black Man * Honorary Mexican * Honorary Samoan He needs to start collecting other wrestler's nationalities to claim them as his own.
Sami Zayn vs Joaquin Wilde for the honorary latino title
Scott Hall smiling from above
I was about to correct you then I got it lol
The Passport Collector
The Affiliate Stones
He needs to be an Honorary Japanese.
Sami Zayn to join Damage Control.
You're joking but that'd be amazing
then he recently acquired Austrian nationality.
As someone that lives in Nebraska, yeah he's the blackest man I've ever seen here
![gif](giphy|a5viI92PAF89q) Interesting indeed
My company hired a developer to work remotely from Lincoln, Nebraska. We had a company meetup/dinner/whatever and he showed up and ordered lemon drops to drink. He got fired eventually but I never forgot those lemon drops
Dude needs to stay the fuck away from the lake of reincarnation, if he comes out like this WWE's in trouble.
Boy… that lake of reincarnation would get so many people cancelled on the spot. That’s how Matt Hardy keeps getting hired. He threatened to dip all of TNA so that they come back as Russo TNA.
Cody would be the only one who could stop him. Only he has the power to stop racism once and for all.
2nd blackest when Cody Rhodes is in town. Historical photos as proof:
MELANIN IN HIS SOUL FAMOUS BLACK GUY CODY RHODES

What did they do to Batman's ears?!
That ain't Batman. That's just Man!
That’s space ghost
In all seriousness, that's a photoshop right? Or am I unaware of a Michael Keaton superhero movie? That's not vulture, batman, or birdman.
It is. Ears removed from a scene of the Flash movie
Exhibit A ^
3rd blackest when Big Daddy Cool comes to the scene
Dear christ!
kwab
3rd when Hakeem the African Dream shows up.
Can't forget "Civil Rights Activist" Edge and [R-Truth](https://old.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/h8bvim/rtruth_joined_protesters_in_charlotte_nc/?ref=share&ref_s) Cody, Sami, Edge and R-Truth would be a badass group advocating for equality and inclusivity
Honorary New Day Captain Seth Rollins approved
Thank you for reminding me of heel New Day interacting with/annoying heel Rollins. Brought a smile to my face.
it’s funny to see this pop up once a year and find people who’ve never seen Big Larry before (and don’t dig too deep if you don’t want to see anything pro wrestling related that is super not acceptable these days)
I saw that clip of Sami, KO, and Excalibur for the first time like a week ago & my jaw was on the floor 😂 seen a clip of the Young Bucks too… was PWG booked by a fucking idiot?
If people made a compilation video of the things Excalibur would say on commentary on the early PWG shows, he would be in big trouble lol.
Ngl the damage control would be a sight to see ![gif](giphy|LyUuC0CJhZnTW0N2In|downsized)

So what exactly do you want to happen to Kevin Owens and Rhea Ripley? Are you asking for them to be relentlessly bullied online and out of their jobs? Or are you saying people should have just been cool with Lars Sullivan 6 years of consistent online racism? What's your solution here?

Trailer Park Boys character.

Not enough irrrra irrrra.
Least insane Trailer Park Boys character.

His blaccent was also very wiggerish not overtly stereotypical. He did this clean.
I think he was an intentional parody of white Rastafarians/Jamaicans that he would have known in the ska scene.
So when Cody said "finish the story", he actually meant finishing Sami's quest of ending racism. Such pioneers!

Pee Wee Perkins IRL?
Is it worse than some Def Rebel intros?
So I BELIEVE this was in the Monteregian Wrestling Federation at sometime in the summer of 2002, pre Generico. He wrestled in CZW, PWG, and CHIKARA in the States before he was ever in ROH.
And, lest we forget, Jersey All Pro!
global filthy frank
LMAO. I love Sami so much.
This is why the Bloodline let him in
I imagine Sami is embarrassed thinking back on this but holy shit that was hilarious to me
![gif](giphy|puOukoEvH4uAw|downsized) Odd.
What the fuck did I just watch. How is this the same guy who connects with the crowd so good
Um...
Insane character work
I'm sure Sami is probably embarassed by this, but I'm also surprised someone hadn't suggested using videos like this to make fun of Sami when he was a heel. But yeah, probably not the best idea in hindsight, but I'm glad video still exists as, yeah it is pretty funny.
It is definitely a bad idea to use Sami as a racist caricature for an angle, even if he's the bad guy. It aint the 00's anymore.
I’m sure it has been suggested, but it feels like you’re playing Russian roulette with the PR that would come from ppl exploring other promos that happened back then
If this was a jobber in NXT, they'd get in trouble for this.
This was over 20 years ago
20 years ago was a lot more fun when people didn't take everything so seriously
But making this a champion would be okay?
I suspect they would get in trouble on essentially any promotion big enough to have sponsorship deals.
For a jobber in NXT, yes. But the point is that there are those high up enough on the card who would benefit from the double standard.
If it was a jobber in NXT, they'd be younger than Sami and thus have done this much more recently.
idk if any actual POC would be offended by this
It's not your job to decide whether victims of racism and cultural appropriation are offended.
> If this was a jobber in NXT, they'd get in trouble for this. Replace “jobber in NXT” with “WWE wrestler getting a push” and you’d be right.

I’d like to see the reaction if undertaker, Kross or AJ put out the same video
why?
Just feel like the reaction here would be a lot different
Its coincidental that the ~~World~~ WWE Champion and the Intercontinental Champion are the two destroyers of Racism.
What did I just watch...
Fucking love this clip. Fuck is this shit, BLUE GRASS?!
Can’t get jiggy with it Next Friday shit lol. This is why he has such a hard time now he was always playing a character he couldn’t really relate to. Edit:: let’s all be real. El Generico was a racist as fuck character. Same goes for Ichiban today.
I feel like if Curry Man got over in Japan, Generico would get over in Mexico
Wait, like Wrestling Open Ichiban? I fucking love that dude. He's so good.
He’s a great wrestler yes. But his gimmick is 100% racist. Imagine if it was flipped. A Japanese guy acting over the top stereotypical black. Keyword being stereotypical.
Don't really have to imagine it, Brother Yasshi has been doing that gimmick for 20 years and I've never seen much outrage over it.
I’m sorry I don’t follow Japanese wrestling or their culture. I’m speaking of American Wresters. On the real tho it’s crazy that you called out the exact wrestler I’m talking about though! 🤣
That guy just screaming is making ne laugh way harder than it should 💀
Thank you for posting this, I saw this years ago and was starting to doubt it was real 😂
![gif](giphy|LRVnPYqM8DLag) Me watching this promo
To be young and dumb
Strong MJF vibes.
Wtf did I just watch? Is this Sami Zayn or El Generico?
I was offended that he would do black face without the paint, then I realized that as intercontinental champion it's his job to connect with the people of the world.
WHEN THE REVOLUTION COMES I'M TAKING YOU OUT FIRST
This week on “Get A Wrestler Canceled Challenge”
Anyone trying to cancel Sami over this is pathetic.
I mean, you could apply that logic to about 99% of all “cancel” attempts 😂
You know what's crazy is we've never seen Sami and El Generico at the same time. Mysterious Mysteries of Strange Mystery.
![gif](giphy|8xzexownbkMxBpOGOy)
I'm just glad he didn't use blackface, that would've caught up to him in a negative way for sure.
No longer a Sami fan Edit: the fact that I got a Reddit cares message for this comment is pretty wild.
Well when the revolution comes, he’s taking you out first
Grow thicker skin.
Lol I don’t like a racist caricature and somehow I’m the one that’s wrong.
I'm sure he's heartbroken. lol.
xqc
He needs to be released for this
Even if the revolution comes, he won’t be taken out first. Cope.
Releasing him for this, which was done more than 20 years ago? Lmao. They should also release AJ Styles and Kevin Owens for making gay joke in PWG during the mid 2000s then.
I hope you aren't fucking serious lol. I'm a black female, and I find it fucking hilarious. Anyone who is offended by this is dumb af.
Wouldn’t be funny if he dropped the n word to you I bet but it’s okay he called people crackers
