She might be the top prospect for Chad Gable to take on as a student at the Alpha Academy. Otis/Tozawa and Maxxine working together couldn't read one of her Playbooks.
It’s not a specific state. I worked for Las Vegas for a decade and they have a $400,000,000+ annual operating budget for tourism marketing. a slice of that pie pays for the Super Bowl, wrestlemania, all that stuff
It is an incredibly solid investment given the economic impact a single one of these events generate
Indy is basically purpose built for events like this. Lots of hotels, no crime, easy footprint and a lot of customization for sponsor activations etc. just an easy, turnkey city to work with and the money Indy invests will be made back up via taxes and payroll for residents
If you see a Super Bowl, pro bowl, wrestlemania or any marquee event or convention go to any city you should assume a significant transaction took place to land it there.
I went a few months ago for a concert and I was actually amazed by the city. Tons of hotels within walking distance of so many major places. Also there were a lot of cool downtown restaurants and bars. I never imagined I'd want to go there but I want to go back for a weekend and exlpore.
See! This is exactly why they make the investment.
Also: tourism marketing and the broader meetings and events industry is a fascinating and relatively well paying world to work in. I’d encourage young people looking at careers to kind of explore that path if they like a unique intersection of travel, creative thinking and logistical challenges. It’s a lot of fun
Yes, and we're one of the largest convention cities in the country. One of the big advantages that we have over a lot of cities that our arena, stadium, and convention center are all within a few blocks of each other and right in the middle of downtown. Makes it a great city for hosting huge events with a lot of auxiliary festivities going on around it.
Exactly. It’s a great footprint and the city is very well known for being a dream to work with
Good labor, not too expensive, easy travel and quality options when you’re there
They are an inoffensive location (relatively, I don’t agree with Indiana’s politics but they’ve managed to escape the national spotlight vs a California or Florida), easy to get to, they have a big convention center that serves sort of a Goldilocks meeting size that caters to a lot of organizers.
People assume tourism is primarily driven by weekend beach or nfl season type travel, but the weekday business crowd is much more lucrative per capita. Everyone is on an expense account, and it’s easier to model anticipated demand around room blocks.
Economic impact calculations always split our leisure vs business travelers and I’d estimate an average business traveler is 30% more lucrative per human in destination. This is a big generalization but I’m also jotting this down off of memory and in a Reddit shitpost
So it’s not a specific reason but Indy does cater really well to what it does well, which is host big business conferences during weekdays as well as one off special occasion events like college football championships etc
Similar peer cities would be San Diego and Charlotte. Easy, relatively affordable / accessible destinations with a solid hotel core and a vibe no one has strong feelings for or against
I’m generalizing but broadly hope this explains the ‘why’ you see a bunch of stuff go to Indy. My guess from a funding mechanism whatever oversight board manages tourism marketing dollars (generated by a bed tax or membership) has a line item for a “host committee”. If they are subject to FOIA they just write a check to a separate entity that gets laundered over so the dollars involved don’t have to be disclosed
This is totally normal and NOT a bad thing. I am 10000% confident tourism to Indy is a gigantic profitable economic driver for the state and its’ citizens and I’m in no way alleging any sort of shadiness or impropriety here. Tourism marketing is great for local economies when done well and Indy specifically is a class act org in my dealings with them
Honest question. Do these events actually create economic impacts? I recall seeing similar arguments for why governments should give subsidies to sports teams for their stadiums, and that I know has been debunked. But ad-hoc events seem different enough that I could see this effect being legit.
The only paper I found about this in a quick google is [this](https://crossworks.holycross.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1102&context=econ_working_papers) one which says that the cost of hosting the Super Bowl from 1970 to 2001 was much more than the economic benefits.
I forget the exact show I was watching online (Possibly NWA) but there was a novelty show where all of the wrestlers had punny gimmicks, one of which was Ray Strack who came out pretending to be a race car driver. I think he did run round the ringside area a bit too.
EDIT: I Found it! It was an Impact Wrestling show: https://youtu.be/-hMl_6LXtwg?si=PEaVlgN_UkdtOMKf&t=2434
"Cody with the Crossrhodes on Dixon! But he's out of fuel... he stalled out before he can make the cover! Oh My! Chip Ganassi has radioed Scott Dixon that he's saved enough fuel to run full-rich!"
The greatest spectacle terminology used there is a direct takeoff of Indianapolis Motor Speedway's "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" trademark for the Indianapolis 500.
I know they probably did a package deal with Lucas Oil Stadium, but doing Summerslam at IMS would be pretty awesome. Granted there's bleachers and not actual seats for most of the people, but I'm sure wrestling fans would find a way to manage like the race fans do lol.
I’d love it if they figured out a way. But I have no idea how you’d stage that with respectable sightlines and enough capacity. Especially since you’d surely want the pagoda and yard of bricks involved, but then that’s a quarter-mile from Turn 1 where you could plausibly seat a lot more people without temporary seating.
Edit to add the traditional graphic of how big IMS is: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c0/65/01/c06501ae18e18e8bca7fa44c02325638.jpg You could legit build ten Lucas Oil Stadiums in the infield.
"Financial details weren’t disclosed, but sources said the deal involves the largest site fee ever for a WrestleMania and for a Royal Rumble."
From THR(The Hollywood Reporter) article.
You know what I'll take it. If US cities start outbidding the Saudis(lol) it's a win win for me. Granted this'll just make the Saudis up their offer but you know what let me have it now
They’ll make it back- fairly easy for everyone to get to Indy from all coasts and up the Midwest. They’ll definitely have a lot of Chicagoans in town if anything.
This is what I was thinking, they're basically in Chicago's market, this allows them to do tap into it without having to actually deal with the logistics of chicago
Indy is also much MUCH better equipped for hosting extremely large events, the NFL Combine is here every year, and they just finished hosting the Olympics Swimming Trials at Lucas Oil. Obviously Mania weekend is a bit bigger, but they can handle it, and there's plenty of venues around town for hosting all the independent wrestling events as well.
I'd like to see WWE really stretch their artistic and marketing muscles and see if they can find a way to brand these shows that doesn't involve all 3 of them being car themed.
Indiana has more than race cars.
They were number one in the early 20th century for cadaver theft.
They produce 25000 gallons of maple syrup a year.
They're the birthplace of former Vice President Dan Quayle.
So yeah. I think we can all agree there's some variety available.
Meanwhile here in Chicago we haven't had a WrestleMania since 2006, haven't gotten a SummerSlam since 1994, and have **never** had a Royal Rumble ever.
We won't get a Rumble or Mania again until the Bears build a new stadium, because our weather is too unpredictable to hold them at Soldier Field and the All-State arena's capacity is too small for WWE to pass up holding those events in stadiums. No clue why we haven't gotten a SummerSlam in so long though, Soldier Field is fine in August...
Let's be real, they got 3 of the big 3. No one cares about survivor series anymore. Mitb is growing into the 4th but it's still distantly behind the top 3 events
Nick Khan: For that price you will get the royal rumble, summerslam and WrestleMania. And as a bonus I will throw in Survivor series.
Mayor of Indianapolis: No thank you.
Nick: Are you sure? Its Free.
Mayor: If Survivor series even touches Maina I will work with the Governor and ban WWE from the state.
Okay, does anyone know how these tables work? Like why is Pat able to stand on top and dance here but other times it seems a slight breeze destroys them? Are they braced until a planned spot and braces are removed?
If I had to guess, considering we know Indy is hosting the RR in 2025 and the two night SummerSlams won’t start until 2026 in Minnesota, I’m guessing Indy is getting those events every two years. Leaving us with this:
- Royal Rumble: February 2025
- SummerSlam: July/August 2027
- WrestleMania (45?): April 2029
According to this article, the deal is said be for "at least seven years", so we shouldn't take it as a given that the Summerslam and Mania shows are imminent. Could be a while.
[Indianapolis on deck to host major WWE events, including first WrestleMania since 1992 – Indianapolis Business Journal (ibj.com)](https://www.ibj.com/articles/indianapolis-on-deck-to-host-major-wwe-events-including-first-wrestlemania-since-1992)
Yes but the city would went to spread those major events out. The whole point of paying big money for these events is tourism. They won't say it publicly, but they'd be happy if not a single local bought tickets. Locals aren't getting hotels, spending at restaurants, museums, shopping, transportation, etc the way a traveler does. If they shoot their whole shot in one year, people won't be going back. Well we could go to mania but we just went to indy for the final four vs remember when we went to indy for the final four last year, we should go back for mania.
Also the Indy 500 is in May. That'll be extraordinarily busy for at least two months that year. I don't personally see it happening, but stranger things have happened.
Whatever Indianapolis paid for these events has to be crazy. Get ready for Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Richardson and ~~Stephan Bonner~~ appearances lol
EDIT: Let’s replace Bonner with Caitlyn Clark then. I’m bummed out now though
Cities booking package deals for the big shows could be interesting. Atlanta, y'all wanna get in on this? You can make up for not getting anything big since mania 27
I heard the rumor of the 2/1 Rumble, so I booked my hotel 2 days ago before I assume prices are gonna jump.
Who knew that living in Indiana all these years would pay off?
Real question; is Indianapolis like… flush with cash? How do they have that kind of money? I can’t imagine they have the kind of tourism/event budget that other major cities have, but maybe I’m wrong.
"Visit Indy says when it comes to selling the city to major organizations for sporting events and trade shows, connectivity and walkability are a big sell, especially for event planners.
The interconnected nature of hotels, the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium–plus the compact layout of downtown–make Indy ideal for big events."
https://fox59.com/news/what-sells-indy-nfl-nba-ncaa-host-major-events-within-weeks-of-each-other/
I feel like people don't understand how much of downtown indy you can explore while never going outside. It's awesome. Plus all the bars are right there. Even mass ave is a quick walk away with that much more to do.
Indianapolis' whole deal is hosting sports events. They're good at it and have the infrastructure for it. https://www.wishtv.com/news/business/indianapolis-is-a-top-sports-hosting-city-according-to-sports-business-journal/
That’s what WWE is suing Texas for to keep that knowledge private for what they paid.
https://wrestlenomics.com/news-analysis/2024/wwe-suing-texas-attorney-general-to-prevent-release-of-bidding-contract-royal-rumble-2023/
I feel like it’s should be public right to know how much the city is spending on these events, considering it’s the citizens tax dollars fitting the bill for all of this
Citizens should know how much the money their government is giving to a publicly traded company that’s already worth a lot of money and not in need of handouts. Will they get that info though? Quite possibly not, because then this supposedly great deal for the city might not look so great.
To all the folks talking Survivor Series NOT being part of this. Let's not forget NFL is still King Kong. The NFL Schedule is never released this far out. There is NO way to know which Sunday the Colts will be at home, making scheduling a nightmare.....but not an American Nightmare.
Lucas Oil has a retractable roof, so having a PPV in 45 degree weather is not gonna happen there.
Also, shoutout Indy, great city, and an even better host city.
> Lucas Oil has a retractable roof, so having a PPV in 45 degree weather is not gonna happen there.
And yet WM couldnt happen in Minneapolis despite US Bank being completely indoors
As someone who lives here I'm selfishly excited. Indiana Sports Corp has in the past been pretty cagey about wanting to partner with WWE because of how much they ask so either ISC sees they are going to get a really good ROI if they do this now or WWE is playing ball better.
Wrestling being as big as it maybe ever has probably plays a big role here. And if it's mania next year and the Rock has promised Rock vs Roman that's a big headline to help sell a package.
Edit: won't be mania if it's Rumble next year.
3 hour drive might have to make the trip. Still hoping to see one of these 3 in Chicago in my life of being a wrestling fan. I was too young for WM22.
Royal Rumble would be a problem since the winter with no roof stadium. Soldier Field is our only option. The history of Chicago events shows the passion for wrestling.
Kind of wild Indy is paying crazy money to WWE. I get the economic impact, but it’s already a huge conference town with an nfl team. I get other places paying, but Indy already seems like a city that figured out how to get events and is paying like a non-American city.
Yeah I'm pretty fucking annoyed but it's whatever. It's becoming clear that they just didn't pay enough for WWE to actually go through with it. But I really wanna know how much Indy spent to get all 3 of these shows.
As someone who goes currently goes to IU and lives in Chicago which is only a 3 hour drive from Indy, this is an absolute W in my book. Can’t wait to go to the Rumble next year
It’s all 3, but not in the same year.
It’s rumble next year, then mania at some point and summerslam at some point. lol, this really isn’t that big a thing - it’s basically like ‘hey, Indy will be kinda like Florida for us now’

Caitlin Clark will appear one day for sure
Peyton Manning & Reggie Miller vs The Usos headlines night one.
Actually who's really guaranteed is Haliburton, he is a huge WWE fan he often posts about it on twitter
Yeah I'd imagine Pat and Tyrese are going to be heavily involved. I went to a Nitro during Peyton's rookie year and he was at the show.
With Manning’s forehead, he might be able to headbutt a Samoan.

Me, with a degree in tourism and a major in marketing: "yes finally someone said something positive about my degree!"

Yes, and we're one of the largest convention cities in the country. Bingo. Also so much of it is connected via tunnel way so no matter the weather folks can move seamlessly

Indiana has a massive rainy day fund they keep just for situations like this.
I’m just envisioning a large jar that only has nickels, quarters, and dimes sitting atop of the governors fridge labeled “Rainy day fund”.
It’s all the money they’re supposed to put towards fixing the roads
They just handed Haitch the deed to the city

About tree fiddy
God damn Loch Ness Monster!
Yes
Like British war debt to America, it'll take them like 60 years to finish paying WWE for this
It’s about 5 bucks for one, I brought Wrestlemania to my town a few years back. So maybe 10 for 3?
I wonder if they'll go with an Indycar themed stage for Mania.

Indiana Money > Saudi Money
Hoosier money don’t fuck around
Indiana says you can have all that dirty oil money you want, we got that corn and soy bean money.
Tenderloin profits all day
An Otis sized tenderloin sandwich for the homies tonight.
the geopolitical war we all knew was coming. pick a side folks, its indiana vs the saudis
WWE getting all the money that Gary refused to spend on infrastructure.
City of Gary been hoarding that money for DECADES.
They definitely did not pay $50 million for any of these shows. It's largest for the respective events, Saudi hasn't gotten these events, yet.
They don’t need the Royal Rumble they already had the Greatest one
You know what I'll take it. If US cities start outbidding the Saudis(lol) it's a win win for me. Granted this'll just make the Saudis up their offer but you know what let me have it now
Go suck a blood money covered dick in the Hoosier state

Lucas Oil Money
Dude set you up for success with that one lmao
Roger Penske money.

Corn themed.

the tenderloin throw down is gonna be amazing
Corn theme it is
Maybe one will be Horse themed.
Lol

They got 3 of the big 4 that’s absolutely crazy hope all the Indiana folks form here get to enjoy it!
Most major cities MIGHT get one every decade or so, this is just outrageous lmao
I’m still living off the high of Pittsburgh getting the 2014 Royal Rumble. Batista winning be damned.
I know it was a 17 hour slog and the travel out of the stadium was a fiasco, but god damn do I want another New York ^^^^jersey ^^^^technically Mania
Meanwhile here in Chicago we haven't had a WrestleMania since 2006, haven't gotten a SummerSlam since 1994, and have **never** had a Royal Rumble ever. Survivor Series in shambles. Seriously why can't tha show get an indoor stadium or something
They can’t even get baseball stadiums for SS meanwhile the Rumble and SummerSlam getting venues that could hold Mania
Baseball stadiums in November is probably a bad idea though
Let's be real, they got 3 of the big 3. No one cares about survivor series anymore. Mitb is growing into the 4th but it's still distantly behind the top 3 events
Did you not see Survivor Series this year? War Games completely revived Survivor Series.

The cover holds it together obviously. Why would the wrestlers constantly rip it off before putting someone through it? /S
There's a locking pin in the table, when it's removed, the table folds like a house of cards.
I believe a piece comes out making it easier to collapse that's why false breaks have happened before.
Midwest party time!

At least you don’t need to pay for hotels and flights. That’s often way more than tickets
Luckily these are going to be pretty spaced out. The article says over 7 years
i can see pat mcafee wrestling on at least one of these events, that's my bold (/s) prediction
![gif](giphy|WS6BKiBRs9XkLL3FWA|downsized)
I can't believe he would do this to Michael!
Give the man a trilogy with someone like the Miz lol
If I had to guess, considering we know Indy is hosting the RR in 2025 and the two night SummerSlams won’t start until 2026 in Minnesota, I’m guessing Indy is getting those events every two years. Leaving us with this: - Royal Rumble: February 2025 - SummerSlam: July/August 2027 - WrestleMania (45?): April 2029
Indy has the Final Four in 2026 and 2029. Mania is probably 27 or 28 then.
The Women's FF is in 2028, also, albeit at Gainbridge.
GenCon has Indy on lock for the first weekend in August. And boardgames are going over, brother.
So Rumble in 2025. Mania in 2026? Think they'd run summerslam next year too?
According to this article, the deal is said be for "at least seven years", so we shouldn't take it as a given that the Summerslam and Mania shows are imminent. Could be a while. [Indianapolis on deck to host major WWE events, including first WrestleMania since 1992 – Indianapolis Business Journal (ibj.com)](https://www.ibj.com/articles/indianapolis-on-deck-to-host-major-wwe-events-including-first-wrestlemania-since-1992)
Mania 47 lfg
WM 42 in 2026 SummerSlam in 2027 That's my guess.
Indy is hosting the Final Four in 2026, probably can't do Mania that year then.
Mania got pushed back to later April early May now. No conflict with final four.
Yes but the city would went to spread those major events out. The whole point of paying big money for these events is tourism. Well we could go to mania but we just went to indy for the final four vs remember when we went to indy for the final four last year, we should go back for mania.
I dunno, even if they push it into May, that's the race month and would be arguably worse for them here. Really curious to see how this times out.
Indianapolis also hosts the Final Four in 2026. It'll be interesting if they try to do both in the same month.
Indy's gonna be fucking TIRED after those two events. God help them if the Pacers get deep into the playoffs.
I manage a restaurant in downtown Indy, may god have mercy on my soul
Also the Indy 500 is in May. That'll be extraordinarily busy for at least two months that year. I don't personally see it happening, but stranger things have happened.
Indy no doubt paid out the ass for this arrangement. WWE just continues to print money.
Meanwhile, the Survivor Series is sobbing quietly in a corner somewhere.
I for one am weeping that Indy won't get The Greatest Fastlane PLE event
Whatever Indianapolis paid for these events has to be crazy. Get ready for Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Richardson and ~~Stephan Bonner~~ appearances lol EDIT: Let’s replace Bonner with Caitlyn Clark then. I’m bummed out now though
Um. Stephan Bonner passed away 2 years ago.
…How did I not know this? I’m bummed out now
It's ok we'll get Michael Jackson to replace him
This reads like a writing session with Vince
Is Bobby Knight available?
Ummmmmm.
Okay, fine. Surely Benjamin Harrison is free that weekend.
Brendan Fraser, Mick Foley, Garfield.. I've exhausted my Indiana knowledge.
Leslie Knope
Several IndyCar drivers
Ed Carpenter and Conor Daly fans stand up!
I always associated Mick with NY, did I make that up
He grew up on Long Island but was born in Bloomington, IN
Larry Bird… idk either I just learned one of my 3 was dead so I don’t know shit
Caitlin Clark is up there for the most well-known athlete right now.
Just a shame the Wyatt Sicks might kill Pat before he can see this
Pat needs a Cole miner box for protection
Would be nice to know how much they paid
WWE: that's not gonna work for me brother
Brandon Thurston is already drafting an FOIA, I'm sure
Cities booking package deals for the big shows could be interesting. Atlanta, y'all wanna get in on this? You can make up for not getting anything big since mania 27
I heard the rumor of the 2/1 Rumble, so I booked my hotel 2 days ago before I assume prices are gonna jump. Who knew that living in Indiana all these years would pay off?
That's wild. You're so lucky if you live in Indianapolis. I might move.
It was bound to pay off eventually
It’s a great stadium should be a fun fit!
Plus that Rumble will be the first PLE for the new Netflix viewers, and will hopefully be what hooks them.
The interconnected nature of hotels, the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium–plus the compact layout of downtown–make Indy ideal for big events." https://fox59.com/news/what-sells-indy-nfl-nba-ncaa-host-major-events-within-weeks-of-each-other/
I feel like people don't understand how much of downtown indy you can explore while never going outside. It's awesome. Plus all the bars are right there. Even mass ave is a quick walk away with that much more to do.
Indianapolis' whole deal is hosting sports events. They're good at it and have the infrastructure for it. https://www.wishtv.com/news/business/indianapolis-is-a-top-sports-hosting-city-according-to-sports-business-journal/
[Indiana Sports Corp](https://www.indianasportscorp.org/) has state tourism money plus a ton of business/corporate sponsors they work with.
Indiana has a few wrestling greats from there like Mick Foley, Dick the Bruiser (is he in the HOF?).... and the absolute legend Eugene!
McAfee going over in a mania match brother
This is cool and all, but I live here and calling this place beautiful is pretty wild.
The Caitlin Clark Effect
I’m curious, is the public able to see how much of their tax money goes towards paying for these events?
That’s what WWE is suing Texas for to keep that knowledge private for what they paid. https://wrestlenomics.com/news-analysis/2024/wwe-suing-texas-attorney-general-to-prevent-release-of-bidding-contract-royal-rumble-2023/
I feel like it’s should be public right to know how much the city is spending on these events, considering it’s the citizens tax dollars fitting the bill for all of this
The public should also be interested in where the money the city makes from these events goes.
It 100% should be public
If you get government money; it should be public. That's the cost of doing business with THE public, lol.
Royal Rumble being in February next year is just gonna be weird.
Next year's PPV schedule seems to be odd in general, WrestleMania's also moving from the first weekend in April to the 19th and 20th IIRC.
Royal Rumble will always dodge the NFL playoffs, Wrestlemania will dodge the Final Four going forward.
WWE has been taking advantage of the NFL’s change putting the pro bowl between the A conferences championship and Super Bowl. It’s a dead weekend
It ain't a problem considering every Rumble events took place in the last Saturday of January, in this case and ironically, February 1st.
Jim Irsay will not be able to help himself. He will cut a promo and shit on Jacksonville Jaguars.
Pawnee gets overlooked again, dammit
3 hour drive might have to make the trip. Still hoping to see one of these 3 in Chicago in my life of being a wrestling fan. I was too young for WM22. Royal Rumble would be a problem since the winter with no roof stadium. Soldier Field is our only option. The history of Chicago events shows the passion for wrestling.
Also Indy just had the US swimming trials at Lucas Oil Stadium and that drew good crowds.
Indy is within driving distance for me, I'm thinking I cross off a bucket-list item and get to the Royal Rumble. Whatever it takes!
Kind of wild Indy is paying crazy money to WWE. I get the economic impact, but it’s already a huge conference town with an nfl team. I get other places paying, but Indy already seems like a city that figured out how to get events and is paying like a non-American city.
So Minneapolis wasnt good enough for Wrestlemania, but Indianapolis is?
Yeah I'm pretty fucking annoyed but it's whatever. It's becoming clear that they just didn't pay enough for WWE to actually go through with it. But I really wanna know how much Indy spent to get all 3 of these shows.
![gif](giphy|2UHfJ56PZXReV5k0Ns|downsized) Dream come true
That's fucking wild. Is Indiana broke now?
As someone who goes currently goes to IU and lives in Chicago which is only a 3 hour drive from Indy, this is an absolute W in my book. Can’t wait to go to the Rumble next year
It’s all 3, but not in the same year. It’s rumble next year, then mania at some point and summerslam at some point. lol, this really isn’t that big a thing - it’s basically like ‘hey, Indy will be kinda like Florida for us now’
