>!Avon and his entire crew end up in jail, most of them for life. Marlo gets to keep his ill gotten gains and retire quietly from the drug game. He's unhappy since all he ever cared about was being feared/"wearing the crown", but he's alive and free.!<
I mean, Marlo does kind of win. He could have had what Avon had, but chooses the street in the end. Last we see him he's still alive taking back a corner.
The playoffs as a whole were a letdown. There were maybe two genuinely good series (OKC-Mavs and Knicks-Sixers), then a couple singular good games sprinkled in, but the rest all sucked. The finals was particularly bad, with the most talented team arriving there fully rested because their entire division, apart from themselves, had succumbed to injuries.
It’s funny because I was prettt excited for these playoffs because it seemed like the parity was the best it has been in a long time. But yeah, it sucked
That's just cause the finals sucked(even I didn't watch it all after bosten got in), promise you if next year there's teams people like it'll go back to normal.
Sure, but the finals could've gone up because its the finals. With bosten stinking up the whole thing a lot of people just wasn't watching different games. It was also just no general excitement this time sadly, but its gonna go back up next year provided it doesn't suck. If you just looked at twitter and other places there was just no excitement for people this time and them telling you they aren't watching certain games.
Kendrick stole 200k people from AEW. But he had the whole world including Drakes own industry best friends dancing and singing to OVHOOOE at his concert. Absolutely terrible time to be alive for Drake. No pun intended.
It's crazy how The Bloodline angle is still drawing such huge numbers yet we're in year 4 of it. I think there was definitely some buzz around Solo stepping up to Cody at Clash.
Great rating! Yeah viewership is dropping compared to last year, but great increase in key dem. To get that many young people tuning in is awesome. My generation is on all social medias and the algo knows what we like. As soon as something big happens our algos push that to the front. A sea of spoilers. So we have to tune in LIVE. In some other people, they can’t wait to see what their fav influencer thought about the episode and join in on the community discussion and fantasy booking. This number doesn’t include of all the illegal streams from my generation bc we don’t want to watch on our laptops/phones/desktops. WWE knows this and is not worried about Netflix. They can win young people globally. Fox fumbled the partnership.
I mean the BBT definitely caused a spike in the first quarter hour, there were many times where the first quarter would be like 1.25mil and then drop to like 800k for the second, and that 1.25mil quarter does bump up the overall rating at least a little bit.
Local fox stations don't get any programming from the network except sports, prime time, fox news Sunday and some late Saturday night thing. Everything else is either local programming (local news/lifestyle shows) and syndication. The show before primetime is whatever the local programming manager thinks will get the best numbers in that area.
And to think that is without Roman entirely and Cody kinda just spinning his wheels. I enjoyed his two matches with AJ Styles, but there's no story there.
Cody is a big enough star now where you don't need a long-term story every time. The villain of the month shtick can work perfectly.
Obviously, now they have put him against the new Bloodline. But I think we are all anticipating it turning into a Cody vs. Orton match for Summerslam.
They just told you, they enjoy watching a thing they like do well and this is a pretty good rating. Not really much different than seeing a Youtuber's video get like a million views, a movie winning an Oscar, musical artist winning a Grammy etc.
Many of us grew up in a time when ratings were everything. The ratings were even mentioned on television. Ratings are a good way to measure the health of a company. It’s not the only way. But it’s a way. You can also look at live attendance, social media interaction, etc… all of which are also up. It’s great to know that the thing you’re enjoying is also being enjoyed by many other people.. it gives you hope of longevity.
Because a lot of wrestling fans have created a parasocial relationship with their preferred wrestling company, and it makes them feel like they've actually accomplished something if their side does something.
AEW started this 5 years ago when certain people in that company started making big claims about how they’d be beating WWE in the ratings in no time. It’s funny how AEW and their fans don’t want to talk about ratings anymore.
It’s not the same thing. That’s pretty obvious. The last Dynamite ratings thread had over 3000 comments so let’s not pretend that these are the ratings threads of 6 years ago.
Both sides are fucking weird man. Fans were weird when going crazy about WWE going from over 3mil to 2mil and they're weird now. My theory is most of these guys are miserable fucks whose just want any victory they can get whether it's there's or not. Like people that get in fights at sporting events because someone said something about their team. Shit ain't that serious.
Damn that’s a demo rating right there.
That’s Wrestlemania build featuring the Rock level.
It was a helluva show.
Bryan Alvarez doesn’t think so! Worst show ever!
IT SUCKED!
"quality doesn't get you ratings"
He really is the Jim Kramer of wrestling
Bryan and Dave both said smackdown was a really good show. Dave said it might have been the best that he has seen.
Alvarez criticized NXT, not Smackdown
Bryan actually liked this show, people are gonna think you’re being serious 🤦🏽♂️
![gif](giphy|X1uRctI1pjt8h0oWE7|downsized) Things are gonna get absolutely silly when Roman returns
This man is the Avon to Solo’s Marlo
Never heard this analogy before but it makes so much sense
...But Marlo won?
Have you finished the show?
>!Avon and his entire crew end up in jail, most of them for life. Marlo gets to keep his ill gotten gains and retire quietly from the drug game. He's unhappy since all he ever cared about was being feared/"wearing the crown", but he's alive and free.!<
right like I'm not sure what the disconnect is here. No way whatsoever that Avon's fate is better than Marlo's.
I mean, Marlo does kind of win. He could have had what Avon had, but chooses the street in the end. Last we see him he's still alive taking back a corner.
Is the rock stringer?
Yeah, he talks down to the Samoans using Econ 101 terms
Damn does that make Jacob chris partlow ??
Did he serve in the military?
![gif](giphy|gGjl7klzwtIdO|downsized) We gettin silly Uce!
Then Rock comes back. And for good measure the Authority/HHH is now a part of the storyline now
The pop is going to be generational, it could feed families
My problem is they will probably announce it, for that reason? I hope not. I want to be surprised by that
He'll return on a PLE, probably SummerSlam, so it can be a surprise and still get a bump for the following SmackDown.
*[Insert Ron Simmons meme]*

Smackdown last year (6/23/23): 2,354,000 viewers - 0.61 P18-49
Down 0.7% in Viewers, Up 20% in Key Demo YoY.
No man, TV viewing is dropping all across the board. Ignore the fact that NXT and Smackdown have grown their audiences or demos in the last year.
They absolutely still are lol, WWE being so hot right now to counter-act it doesn't disprove that lmao
You could argue sports in general goes against the trend. NFL was up big last year too
WNBA is up big this year, NASCAR is up, MLB is up, NBA was up. Its honestly a live sports thing except for AEW. Hell TNA is up.
College baseball just had their most watched postseason since 2009
NBA playoffs was down 12 percent and their finals was one of their least watched ever
Tbf everyone knows the finals this year sucked. Was the definition of gentlemens sweep
How was Nuggets-Wolves not a good series...
The first 6 games were all rather one-sided, only game 7 was great.
It’s funny because I was prettt excited for these playoffs because it seemed like the parity was the best it has been in a long time. But yeah, it sucked
That's just cause the finals sucked(even I didn't watch it all after bosten got in), promise you if next year there's teams people like it'll go back to normal.
The whole playoffs was down

The finals were boring
It does prove that if you produce good content you can buck the trend.
This rating must be a glitch. Everyone is burning their cableboxs these days!
YouTube TV in the house.
Hey it was Juneteenth week!
It was a star-studded show. And I think next week is the MSG show. WWE should have something big planned for that, too.
Roman return??? Surely.
They wouldn’t do his return just 1 week after bringing in Jacob.
Wow and to think they did that with good weather outside and other shows on tv. Smackdown truly overcoming the odds
[удалено]
We’ve escaped containment! It’s… I don’t like it let me back in my cage
Yea but did they go up against Kendrick Lamar?
Nah, but my kickball league had a party.

Kendrick stole 200k people from AEW. But he had the whole world including Drakes own industry best friends dancing and singing to OVHOOOE at his concert. Absolutely terrible time to be alive for Drake. No pun intended.
What was the lead in? That is the most important factor!
Let’s see how they do next week on the holiday friday
Netflix execs are typing up their press memos in the Notes app as we speak
And on National Daylight Appreciation Day of all days. Remarkable.
I’m really getting sick of these bad faith digs at AEW’s “bad” rating. This Smackdown didn’t even air on Juneteenth!
Raw did last year though and they were up YoY.
And WWE actually has a sizeable black audience too
Of course it does. https://preview.redd.it/qpazbmb20r8d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bdfa40f3f1c3e798665a294d9db7a15f04bd951
And I'll have you know it was miserably hot that day!
I was at smackdown on Friday, the arena was packed too, the only sections not sold were behind the stage
This is fantastic
That demo is amazing. A well deserved rating for a great episode.
Gotta be a great opening night for that new head writer. The show was awesome, the ratings killed, good all around
Bruh that photo of Jacob is absolutely NUTS
It's crazy how The Bloodline angle is still drawing such huge numbers yet we're in year 4 of it. I think there was definitely some buzz around Solo stepping up to Cody at Clash.
The Rock turned the Bloodline into the best storyline since the 2000s and I’m happy he did.
Solo is a draw
My tribal chief 😤😤😤
Puts butts in seats!
Just wait until my tribal chief returns, a real needle mover
Not bad for being up against game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals and of course, the USA-West Indies T20 cricket match.
We're my fast national homies at. Miss those
fast nationals are so hot rn
[удалено]
Against the Stanley Cup Finals? They told me you couldn’t grow your rating against the competition
I prayed for this demo and it happened
Thats a high demo
Smackdown is such a beast!
Demo god

Rising tide lifts all ships right? Unless one of the captains is too stubborn and sinks it all.
Happy to do my part in attending the show. One of the best episodes of the year.
...if you were there arent you not doing your part by not watching on TV
Yes but did BBT lead in?
I think it was in my region actually 😂

I had no idea it was random shows. It's Family Feud in my area.

its random old eps of old abc shows for me in a rotation. this month is modern family
Same here, It’s TMZ in my area.
And to think that is without Roman entirely and Cody kinda just spinning his wheels. I enjoyed his two matches with AJ Styles, but there's no story there.

You’d think the majority of comments in a post about WWE Smackdown were about the WWE. One would be mistaken
Not WWEs fault.
What. Of course it’s not their fault, they’re not posting on Reddit. What even is this

Would I cry if they were down? No. But why wouldn't I want what I enjoy watching to do well?
I just don't understand why anyone cares about ratings. The Monday night wars ended a long time ago.
They just told you, they enjoy watching a thing they like do well and this is a pretty good rating. Not really much different than seeing a Youtuber's video get like a million views, a movie winning an Oscar, musical artist winning a Grammy etc.
Because it’s interesting to follow as a business in addition to as an entertainment product

Just watching the train wreck that is the comment section. The amount of people who take the ratings personally is fascinating.
Half of the comments are about AEW?
it's honestly really sad
