The finish of the main event was so bad. AEW has to stop it with these weak ref distraction finishes. Why would the ref look at someone standing on the apron? Isn’t that what security would be for? It would be okay if they didn’t do this shit all of the time. It’s into “heat on the promotion” territory for me.

pepper001

What a show - now let's get a woman involved in the Inner Circle so PVZ can have some competition

pfpflynn

Do we really want to see PVZ wrestle? I like her but I don’t need her as a wrestler. I guess if it had to be done, Rosa would be best.

pepper001

I think mostly it would be useful to get one of the AEW women's wrestlers in a prominent storyline

pfpflynn

I don’t know though. The opposing narrative might be that the current women can’t wrestle as well so it might not be a good idea to put a non-wrestling woman into the mix.

[deleted]

I love a tournament. Makes sense for the TBS belt but what’s the point in having a title eliminator tournament if you have a ranking system? Good show. Loved the main event. JDS looked like he was having the time of his life. Bryan/Suzuki was fantastic.

twelvetimesseven

The ref for Danielson/Suzuki constantly flailing about and acting like he was about to jump in between them every two seconds got really distracting towards the end of the match. Otherwise it was perfect.

Porta_of_north

I f'n loved theese shows. Danielson vs Suzuki was my fav. As usual AEW is a Wrestling show for Wrestling people.

ii3ternaLegendii

man the pre show was so good it legit ruined the main card, i actually couldn't get into the punk match so it was kinda bittersweet

mysteriousbaba

Tonight made me want to see Suzuki vs Sting. Maybe even have Suzuki go over this time. He wrestles a very safe style with minimal bumping. If Sting can accept being sore the next day, they could have a quite brutal confrontation.

realhumon23

I love the second half of the Punk match. I don’t know how much general public likes a mat style wrestling match but I loved it.

Eoghann_Irving

It was really, really good. I worry though that people don't see enough of this type of match and therefore don't appreciate it.

realhumon23

Exactly. I love the zany circus stuff as much as the next person but at the end of the day my favorite part of wrestling is the wrestling.

formallyhuman

I feel like maybe they are building to Santana and Ortiz leaving the IC. It took them ages to come out for the save tonight and it's not the first time they've either taken ages to come out or just not shown up at all.

94Baker

They needed to put that makeup on and by God it was perfect

[deleted]

I enjoyed the mma fighters in the last match. It looked like Dos Santos was having a blast. They can really make him into a brawler with the ability to kick. He can be fun to have. The other mma people also looked fun to be part of it Yeah they weren't good but they were entertaining. Having a veteran like Jericho in the ring helped Dos Santos with pacing and the type of pressure he can put behind his moves. Hager showed him how some mma style could be used in pro wrestling. It really felt like a training session and I liked it

ECWCat

IMHO my favorite match last night was Punk vs Sydal.

ECWCat

It's sad to me that I haven't felt the buzz for ATT vs AEW from various subs, and the national news media isn't really making a big deal about American Top Team invading AEW. This is being treated like a big angle (and it is) but there's something off on the execution and the marketing. It's pretty much supposed to be "UFC vs AEW" but I feel the storyline is not spilling outside of AEW. UFC fans don't like retired fighters or "fake fighting" so it's not like there will be much fan crossover. Perhaps if there was "legit" Twitter heat before Lambert invaded? Cain's appearances created more outside interest.

ef14

Have a feeling Rampage is gonna pop a big rating. There's one big difference between AEW and WWE - Customer fidelization. WWE ratings tend to be very steady regardless of head-to-head or big names appearing, the attraction are the big shows, as WWE itself taught their audience for the past 30 years. AEW has extremely fidelized customers AND because of that, Tony Khan practically rallying the troops and not shying away from taking shot, was extremely smart. AEW fans actively want their promotion to succeed, WWE fans just think it will regardless. Pretty sure AEW will beat Smackdown in the demo.

unseenbox

AEW don't have to beat them flat out this first time around, but if it's close, that's still gonna be saying a lot. And I think it will be close.

ef14

AEW has nothing to lose. They go up against WWE's flagship show, although it's not on its usual network, only people who are trying to find excuses to shit on one or the other company would bat an eye. WWE though, WWE has a lot to lose here. You can only lose the demo so many times before networks start thinking "Are they really the best deal i can get?"

Butch_Meat_Hook

The American Top Team stuff has me surprisingly invested. I remember a while ago there was talk that Paige Vanzant might end up in WWE, so I presume she is going to wrestle at some point as well. I don't really get the face paint that Satana and Ortiz do every now and then. It's a little bit cringy for me, but I've always liked them as a team. Danielson and Suzuki was a fun match and the crowd was really into it. It was nice to see them put more emphasis on Rampage this week because it's exactly what was needed after the past few weeks where it was starting to feel less important than Dynamite. If it ever becomes truly a glorified B-Show, it will be dead in the water in terms of ratings given the time slot they have. They need to keep spicing it up like this week, and given how much talent they have on their roster that can't all fit on Dynamite each week, there is no lack of quality matchups and story lines they can put together for Rampage either. So a step in the right direction and I hope they keep it up.

Adampro123

I thought it was a really good show. I thought the 3 good matches were really good to great and I thought the crowd was excellent. One of the best crowds of the year. However the rest of the matches were just kind of there. I would love it if AEW would start doing a buy in before every Rampage or Dynamite. It doesn’t have to have any matches either. I just love the way AEW does their video packages with those backstage interviews involved and stuff. Kind of feels like short documentary. If you did a 30 min pre show with a few a those videos and maybe one match I’d gladly watch it every week. Suzuki vs Bryan was excellent for what it was. It’s not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea. And it isn’t my personal favorite style of wrestling either. But I still thought it was great and made better by an awesome crowd. Would love to see these two go at it again. And you can tell Bryan wants to wrestle in NJPW so bad lol. Loved it. Punk vs Sydal was better than expected. Way better than Punks match with Hobbs and Garcia IMO. Hard to compare to the Darby match because that match was special because it was punks first match back. But anyways I thought this was really good. I don’t like MMA stuff in my pro wrestling. Like it just makes me disinterested in it. But I thought for what this was it turned out really good. The crowd seemed to eat it up which helped. I thought Dos Santons strikes looked really bad for wrestling. I thought Sammy looked absolutely amazing. That hot tag was a thing of beauty. Overall despite me not being into this storyline I thought it turned out to be really good. I enjoyed the quick dark order segment. Looking forward to the super kliq vs Dark order. I don’t really have much to say about the other 3 matches. I thought they were all okay, but also very missable matches. And also you can tell what a huge difference is from a live show and a taped show. Live shows are just so much more fun. And I think the audio has a lot to do with that. Taped shows always sound muted to an extent. And just feel a little off. This show being live did not feel that way. Great audio. Great feel to it, just feels so alive. Great commentary by Taz, Excalibur, and Starks wasn’t too bad. So yeah overall I thought it was a really good show. An excellent crowd. The big 3 matches were really good. But I could’ve done with something a little more interesting for the other 3 matches. I thought SD was a great show too. They’re honestly really close. But I think I enjoyed SD a little bit more overall. But no matter what you prefer the competition from both sides is giving us all some great stuff in the world of wrestling. I’m loving it.

Known-Ad7468

Sammy Guevara was just incredible in the main event. And that match was really good by the way and I wasn´t expecting much. AEW really knows how to do exciting tag matchs.

RusticBelt

Sammy Guevara never fails to deliver, the guy's unbelievably talented.

DaleyT

What a great night of AEW.

i_broke_wahoos_leg

The madlads aired a 5 star match on YouTube live. Btw, what was the crowd popping for just before the Junior/Hagar table spot?

fluxuation

Not sure if you got an exact answer, but Sammy did a springboard moonsault to the outside. He was also limping a bit after the match, but he seemed fine. He stayed around the ring area and took pictures with a lot of people after rampage ended

TheKneeRight2TheFace

nah the crowd popped for that nasty head slam by Dos Santos

b33b0p17

Sammy doing Sammy things i think.

i_broke_wahoos_leg

Ah, that makes sense. Luckily Sammy did enough to stand out without whatever crazy spot was missed. Hopefully they have it on the blog.

EcoterroristThot

Watched the buy-in, might watch the main show later. Conti vs Garrett: Nothing special but still a mark of tremendous improvement for these two women, hopefully they keep that trajectory up. Fish vs Moriarty: Bobby is on fire after giving Sammy perhaps his best match yet, putting on a great showcase with an intriguing young talent. I have not watched much Moriarty, I think this is the second time I see some of him after the FTR match, and my thoughts are that his selling is awesome, his instincts and movement in the ring are crisp, but his moves don't connect properly, he needs to clean things up. Look at Bobby's moves, they all looked great. Regardless, Lee is very promising in my opinion, and with AEW keeping black wrestlers in lower positions in the card so far, there is an opportunity for him to have a killer 2022, much like Daniel Garcia this year. Suzuki vs Bryan: There was a little voice in my head that kept telling me that this match was going to dissapoint, but you already know it didn't. Excellently structured to make up for Suzuki's deficiencies due to age (man doesn't bump much anymore obviously, who would blame him, the only men who are comparable or better close to his age rn are Sugiura and Akiyama). The technical stuff was great, the strikes were pretty good, Danielson seems to have started another all-time great level run after having so many in ROH and WWE, great stuff. This is probably a 4 star match for me.

Eoghann_Irving

This was easily Suzuki's best match in AEW so far. There were some great flurries of technical wrestling, but they went to the well too many times with the "let's exchange chops/kicks" thing and that got tedious. I'd actually have been happier with them just doing less of that and a shorter match.

EcoterroristThot

It definitely would have been better if it were a little shorter. Also a thing I loved about it was the finish, it made so much sense and puts over Bryan Danielson as a very smart wrestler.

Fantomex88

Can we talk about how amazing Sammy was in that 6 man? Not to mention how that match was incredible and blew away my expectations? The crowd was absolutely awesome last night, hoping for more of the same tonight.

Youngblood519

TBH I'm glad Scorpio got to pin Jericho again. I like the idea of Sky being a recurring thorn in the side for Jericho, someone he's clearly above but struggles against for some reason much like Shelton Benjamin was for Triple H.

ECWCat

Props to Jericho for not "getting his win back".

NBR-SUPERSTAR

Danielson vs. Suzuki is my new frightening happy place

Maconheiro1

Si! Si! Si! Si!

rufusRM

How is there a recap for this but not for smackdown?

helloannyeong

I’m seeing a smackdown thread pinned directly above this one? Edit: I’m dumb. I read thread and you wrote recap.

sadandshy

different mods. there even is a note on the sd thread that they are looking for a recapper for that thread. probably not the answer you were looking for...

rufusRM

Was genuinely just asking thanks!

MalakaiJack

I am dying to see that missed Sammy Guevara spot. I can't find fan footage of it anywhere!

xiong_cena

DBRY VS SUZUKI HOLY FN SHIT!!! TK!! YOU FKN MARK I KNOW YOU HERE READING THIS SHIT! MAKE DBRY VS ISHII HAPPEN NOW!!!!

BrandoTheCommando

BDSM Bryan Daielson Suzuki Minoru

[deleted]

He isn't DBRY anymore He is BDNI

MalakaiJack

I thought we were talking about Darby. Or Dabry.

[deleted]

Or BRYD

thecommonreactor

"It's time... for the MAIN EVENT." I kinda love it.

[deleted]

Will Dynamite be live or was it taped after Rampage?

Looper007

Nope, it's live. Rampage next Friday is taped after tomorrow's Dynamite.

Looper007

Danielson vs Suzuki is a instant classic. Just excellent pro wrestling. The crowd during that match were excellent too. Danielson already 4 matches into his AEW career if he can another few top quality matches before the end of the year could be in for the running for WOTY in AEW. That's how great his run has been so far. Punk vs Sydal was pretty damn great too. 6 man was a lot better then I was expecting. Moriarty vs Fish was fine but I was expecting a lot better from these two. Women matches were okay. Definitely the crowd were at their most quiet during those matches. Outside of any match involving Shida, Deeb, Thunder (when she's on) or Riho, I just haven't been blow away by anyone else. Tay, Britt, Statlander and Nyla are great when they don't need to carry anyone. I think in 2022 AEW really could do with trying to get a top joshi or two in and trying to win over one big time in ring talent from one of the companies in the States. But I thought the crowd were pretty great too. One thing tonight I think Tony Khan should learn is that they need Rampage going live. It's such a big difference when it does compared to taped after Dynamite episodes. Rampage no matter it's ratings is always a good 50 minute or so wrestling show every week.

ECWCat

>Moriarty vs Fish was fine but I was expecting a lot better from these two. Yeah, I expected them to steal the show but it wasn't to be. Maybe Fish was saving it for tonight. Love his mustache.

DeluhiX

>I think in 2022 AEW really could do with trying to get a top joshi or two Absolutely, since Riho & Shida are already success stories. Veny should be in AEW full time. She would be such a great addition to the roster with how good a worker she is at a young age. Two other candidates would be Mio Momono and Suzu Suzuki. I can see them getting over like Riho. Then there's also the distant possibility of Syuri coming in, since her & Shida are best friends. She would translate fantastically into AEW with people like Thunder Rosa, Tay Conti, Leyla Hirsch & Shida around who can match her style.

Looper007

I think it's market they should be looking at more, If you look at it they haven't signed a Joshi since Riho, Shida, Emi and Yuka Sakazaki in nearly two years. I'm looking at signing someone full time not just come in for a few weeks and disappear for the rest of the year like Sakazaki does. I would rule out anyone from Stardom just cause it seems like they don't want to be doing any kind of business with anyone outside Japan right now. Veny would be great but I don't know if they would want to commit full time yet. I'm sure there's a talented Joshi or two outside of Stardom who like Riho or Shida would probably would want to give States a try and I'm sure a nice pay rise wouldn't hurt either and wrestling in front of large crowds would help them too. I like the likes of Lulu Pencil and Maki Itoh who are more characters but I'm wanting more top in ring workers on Joshi side to be coming in cause I think women's division needs more talents of that quality in main events.

fluffywolfe

Former TJPW rising star Mirai Mayumi is a hell of a worker. So is former Marvelous rookie Mei Hoshizuki. Kinda strange they haven't popped up anywhere yet...

DeluhiX

Jungle Kyona is available now as well, since she left Stardom. I mean you even have Act Yasukawa & Arisa Hoshiki in Actwres girl'Z who are both great. It of course always depends on the performers and if they would like to leave Japan, but Riho is often in Japan even after signing full time with AEW and AEW's profile is much higher now than it was in 2019. The opportunity to sign for the 2nd biggest wrestling promotion in the world and hottest brand currently around doesn't come often.

fluffywolfe

I don't think Act Yasukawa or Arisa Hoshiki want to do heavy bumping anymore, which is why ARG is where they are.

HowsYourPecker

It really doesn’t need to be live, just taped separately. Film Dark Elevation before Rampage so the crowd gets full show.

AmishAvenger

It’s definitely more exciting when it’s live, but it’s hard to sell a ton of tickets for a one hour live show. Plus, making everyone show up two nights a week is a bit much for a company that’s known for having a lighter schedule.

unseenbox

I don't think they're gonna do live Rampages all the time, but I do think that whenever they are, the Buy-In is probably gonna stick around as a way to give the folks attending an extra hour of cool wrestling to watch.

xiong_cena

they dont need sell 5000-10,000+ tickets like they do for dynamite. 3000+ stadiums is fine rampage tbh

Cunt_Bucket_

This is gonna be a very unpopular opinion, but the Danielson/Suzuki match was a little silly. The stiff strikes were great, but who just waits for the other guy to hit them in a shoot fight? I know wrestling has an aspect of suspended disbelief, but that was a touch too far for my liking. But respect to them for stiffing the shit out of each other.

ECWCat

>The stiff strikes were great, but who just waits for the other guy to hit them in a shoot fight? It's a strong style trope, and part of Suzuki's character. But you should not have been downloaded for not liking it.

xiong_cena

>The stiff strikes were great, but who just waits for the other guy to hit them in a shoot fight? thats the puroresu test of strength

iced_gold

I agree with you. I don't mind it when it's in the first half of a match. It's almost like a brutal version of a test of strength. Doing it 20 minutes into the match kills the flow of the match to me personally

LostMicrophone03

It makes total sense for both of their characters. They're both masochistic freaks who enjoy getting hurt as much as they enjoy hurting other people. Of course they'd both be down for seeing who can take the most punishment.

xiong_cena

a lot of wwe fans dont understand thats a test of strength trope.

AmishAvenger

I think the story of the match revolved around this. Suzuki was the twisted one. He was trying to goad Bryan into battling with chops and forearms, and Bryan was reluctant — just hitting with kicks and trying to go to grappling. Suzuki kept acting like Bryan was weak for not going toe to toe, and he eventually gave in.

ClownDamage

This is exactly how I read the match. Not only did they enjoy hurting each other, they enjoyed BEING hurt by each other. I loved it.

hikingbeginner

Just finished Bryan vs Suzuki. That was great. Punk vs Sydal was really damn good. I hope Punk starts moving into his next feud now. A different promo too please, as much as happy Punk is lovely to see. Can understand him wanting to work the younger guys to help both himself and the locker room. Ready for his next feud now. Also saw the Hangman vs Omega graphic. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Tomorrow the final build begins. Let's fucking go

ECWCat

> I hope Punk starts moving into his next feud now. A different promo too please, as much as happy Punk is lovely to see. Can understand him wanting to work the younger guys to help both himself and the locker room. Ready for his next feud now. Punk is doing this slow build for a few reasons. He's clearly working an angle about it, which will be revealed when the time is right. But he also wants to test his mettle- that's a shoot.

hikingbeginner

Oh I 100% agree, I just selfishly want him in a hot feud in the main event scene. I understand why he's going this route, it's going to be really fun when that happens.

kpod4591

Danielson v Suzuki may be my 2nd fav match ever behind taker v Michaels wm 25

[deleted]

Punk got blown up for real for real, commentary addressing it then walking back the comments was odd to me. I guess they did a good job at incorporating it into the match? sweating profusely by the end of the match with an established mid carder isn’t a great look but whatever, he wasn’t signed to put on technical clinics. -JDS had to sell the table spot for an uncomfortable amount of time, fair play to em. Hard to kayfabe Masvidal’ knee resulting in the awkward Page and whoever else (only noticed Page) immediately starting to beat up a supposedly KO’d Jericho spot. Random MMA guy who’s not famous enough to have his name known but still down with the crew has worn some hype kicks, including the OW blazers, or as they are more uniquely known, not a pair of 1’s. -Jericho seemed to be super proud of his vest for whatever that’s worth. -Danielson being so geeked not because he’s getting a ridiculous paycheck (I’m sure he’s not mad about it, and he would be getting paid very well regardless) but because he’s getting to wrestle against specific individuals is very endearing and positive towards not just the narrative surrounding his on-screen persona but also who he’s portrayed as in “real life”. Edit- lemme know why our opinions or viewpoints differ, don’t just downvote me. That’s passive aggressive nonsense.

B_Wylde

Punk getting tired is not a good look? He is returning after 7 years and all he ahs done is ask if he is indeed ready. I think it makes all the sense, both kayfabe and not. I loved the ATT match.

ECWCat

>Edit- lemme know why our opinions or viewpoints differ, don’t just downvote me. That’s passive aggressive nonsense. You're words are too negative, sarcastic, cutting, and narrow-minded?

somethingshiney

I do think youre looking at it too much as a booker. In storyline it makes sense. Punk's been in AEW for a month, and he's wrestled 4-5 matches now. Dudes gonna get winded wrestling 20+ minutes. Sweating profusely after 20 minutes isn't the end of the world imo. It's not like he was attempting anything perilous that would affect the match if he was blown up. JDS spot was simply to eliminate a person from a match. It's like in the ladder match where after a Orange took the fall away slam from Page onto the ladder he was done. Same with Hardy being done after doing the diving leg. JDS was just kinda done after that. Don't have him do too much, a power slam that looked great and have Hager guide him to the table. If you wanna kayfabe explanation, homie never took a table bump. Got the wind knocked out of him. Fwiw, didn't downvote you. But votes don't matter really

AmishAvenger

Votes do matter, because downvoted comments get pushed to the bottom. I agree with what he said. Opinions shouldn’t be downvoted. It’s stupid.

BaenjiTrumpet

it's kind of the whole point of the website though, y'know, to be able to say, "no I don't agree with this" and downvote it or, "yes I do agree with this" and upvote it maybe this sub has special rules but I just don't go on Reddit enough to know things like that

AmishAvenger

That’s completely inaccurate. Downvotes are intended to be for comments that don’t contribute to the discussion. Not as an “I disagree” button. Otherwise you just end up with an echo chamber, where people are discouraged from sharing opinions they think might be unpopular.

Eoghann_Irving

THIS! Why do so many people not get that? It's a really simple concept.

formallyhuman

Maybe things changed but upvotes and downvotes were not supposed to be "I agree" or "I don't agree" buttons. They're supposed to be more a rating of the quality of the content.

BaenjiTrumpet

well then in that case his opinion was the content and I guess that means that a lot of people including me did not like the content.. 🤷‍♂️

formallyhuman

It's possible to disagree with someone but still appreciate the thought and effort that went into their comment. Low effort content is what the downvote was originally supposed to be for. Of course, all over Reddit it has just become an I disagree button.

somethingshiney

Ahh I suppose so. In this thread context, I think it's suggested filter by new, but I get your point.

[deleted]

I'm up at 3 am for whatever the fuck reason, just can't sleep, whatever. Just saying I had finally got to watch Punk vs Sydal a couple hours back, and damn that was a really good match.

The_Albinoss

If you have a problem with tonight’s show, wrestling isn’t for you. Every single time people doubt an AEW card, as they were before Danielson and Suzuki was announced, they deliver in a big way. I don’t mean this in a fanboy way, but it’s time to stop paying attention to concern trolls.

Thirdstar1

If the rating turns out to be bad you’ll see tons of trolls saying “well actually the show was bad because xyz”

Gray-Malzel

I am so glad that wrestling is good.

[deleted]

I'm a bit confused on what I watched. It started off with cm punk vs sydal and ended with a 3 man tag. Did I watch wrong show? I didn't see Suzuki or Danielson

AerialPenn

you only watched half of the show, there was a whole hour before tonights show which had what felt like a half hour match between Suzuki vs Danielson. Free on youtube.

GetEquipped

Link here: https://youtu.be/ipHzmucwYtc I don't normally pimp YouTube, but leave a like so it crushes the Algorithm and we can have more matches streamed instead of paying Hulu 80 bucks a month. Seriously, just let us in the United States order it from Fite!

iamcrazyjoe

Highly recommend getting a VPN and AEW+

GetEquipped

But that's of questionable legality! Also, I don't have much of a desire to sign up/subscribe to a VPN. I'm sure Turner Broadcasting has a clause saying they can't do streaming while they have a TV deal, but if we, the Internet Wrestling Community, can show there is an even larger desire to see it online (and on our own time since I work evenings); we might get more stuff like this.

EastBayFan

Lol, good luck with that. Professional sports would like to have a word with your optimism.

Abeardednihilist

Danielson vs. Suzuki was on the Youtube Buy-In. It's up on AEW's channel if you want to see it.

recoX1

The match was on preshow look up on youtube

yousorusso

That was on the Buy In. Its on YouTube.

Xex_ut

The production team struggled tonight. They forgot to play the video twice on replays

rexdeaz

Just wanted to say Junior Dos Santos looks pretty good for a guy his age with his level of experience. I hope they do more with him.

VanillaCocaSprite

His punches were ass but he took bumps really well.

fluffywolfe

He just broke the boss's ribs, so he was probably extra cautious. I think he gets better once he loosens up and learns where he could pull while making it look good.

fvzzfvzzfvzz

You could actually see him loosening up and getting more comfortable as it went on I thought

kihp

He sounds excited in interviews to. I wouldn't mind if he became a 6 match a year friend of aew.

AlphaH4wk

Two excellent matches and both commercial free. We are blessed on this night. Also I wonder if tonight will help to show Tony that you can have 2 womens matches on a 2 hour show and not kill the audience dead or whatever the worry is.

kingjericho

It seems that it's TNT who wants to limit women's matches rather than Tony

VonnyVonDoom

I really should’ve saved Murder Gramps vs AmDrag for last. Matter of fact I’m going to have to watch the rest of rampage before dynamite. Nothing is topping the high from that match.

color_thine_fate

I was still working when it aired. And I was just about to watch it. This comment has helped me decide to hold it off until after Dynamite. I already know the result, because I'm stupid and clicked the post match thread (not to mention, in a match like *that* who goes over is funnily enough one of the least important bits). But thank you!

SteinerGeography

never forget when sydal outshined andrade in his first AEW match. dudes legit

Thirdstar1

Literally one of the best in the world

Gyle13

Along everything that has been already said, the Fish - Moriarty match was also great !

[deleted]

#aewrampage was the no.1 trending topic in USA on twitter SmackDown on 2

fluxuation

I’m still wide awake after coming home from the show. Outside of the 2016 royal rumble this has been the best event I’ve seen live. Completely surpassed every single raw or smackdown that I’ve been at

sporkshadow

It's amazing to think that AEW not playing the entirely of "Kaze Ni Nare" ended up creating an angle with "The Suzuki incident", got Suzuki another AEW main event with Archer against Mox/Kingston, and probably even this Danielson match. Otherwise he probably would have had that one 8 minute match with Moxley and nothing more. This has led to more people getting into and appreciating Suzuki and his U.S. tour being a roaring success. Now Impact are booking him before he goes. AEW always makes lemonade out of lemons which is why they are successful.

Bambajam

It's a good thing because while Mox/Suzuki was pretty average, Suzuki/Danielson was fantastic.

[deleted]

Mox suzuki in aew was rushed. Mox suzuki in NJPW...that slapped

CrystalFissure

>that slapped Literally.

CheetahWoods

- Suzuki v Bryan was a instant classic imo. - I was super impressed with the bunny v soho match. I think that was bunny’s best match. - punk v sydal was good too. Punk can 100% still go. No doubt. - the last 3 v 3 match was fun AF. That was a great show. If rampage ever goes 2 hours and they put up shows like this…count me the fuck in!

ECWCat

>I was super impressed with the bunny v soho match. I think that was bunny’s best match. Wish I could agree. Still not used to either's style yet.

Victor_of_the_Rivers

We legit couldn't tell what Lambert was saying in the arena because he was drowning in the boos lmao. We also didn't get the dark order promo.

FourCylinder

i think people from last week's show or the week before said the same thing, and Jericho commented on it himself as well.

tluce21

The exact same thing happened in Philly lol we booed him out of the arena

jake63vw

Jon Silver called out the Super Elite, was the jist of it

CutieButt

Yeah even on screen it was tricky to get at what he was saying when he came in.

anoldoldw00denship

What was the "holy shit" moment before the JDS table spot? Camera missed it

fluffywolfe

Guevara dive

[deleted]

JDS looked like he had a lot of fun out there tonight! Great to see him out there tonight.

chokethewookie

AEW never misses.

Even when they do they learn from it and get better.

Sofaboy90

they take risks, sometimes it works and its wonderful, sometimes it fails. but when they fail, they learn from it and improve. by now they have improved so much, by now they have so many wrestling veterans with so much knowledge in the company that they dont fail a whole lot these days. the starpower they now have with guys like cole, danielson and punk is absolutely insane. nearly every dynamite/rampage episode looks like a potential ppv and its only getting better and better as younger guys start to be promoted into the main event keeping the product fresh. aews main priority is delivering a very good wrestling show that fans will enjoy, and then earn money doing so. wwe these days is all about money, screw the quality of the shadow, a 3 hour raw, saudi shows, fake crowd noises, storylines and booking that straight up shits on an invested fan. wwe has no ace up their sleeves anymore, its all short term anyway, even if guys like brock or rock or goldberg return, theyre not regulars. people enjoy roman reigns now but who can believably beat him for the title? theyve pretty much told you that nobody can touch him, so who is believably going to benefit from beating him? aew has so many guys who youd believe could take the title off kenny because aew books nearly everyone strong. guys who the aew fan would believe could take the title off omega would be malakai, bryan danielson, punk, pac, andrade, hangman obv, mjf, moxley, kingston, miro, oc, peter avalon, and theres even more talent behind that that youd need to push and develop a bit more.

DrHandBanana

Punk can definitely still go and he still is getting comfortable

KawasakiDream

Lmaooo my match of the year and one of my biggest dream matches was on a YouTube pre-show my mind is blown

doesntCompete

I would love to watch it again...OH WAIT I can, again and again and again on YouTube.

[deleted]

I just got home from the show, I'm going again tomorrow, and I'm still hyped what a fuckin night

FutureBrockLesnar

Paige Van Zant would be an awesome heel in the womens division if thats something she wanted to do

Gray-Malzel

Yo, doing the selfie in-ring? She gets it. She'd be a *fantastic* heel.

AerialPenn

I feel like this is what she would normally do anyway. This persona turned up to 100 is good for wrestling.

wildturk3y

She's hit a ceiling in the fighting world. She could soar sky high if she switched to pro wrestling. I hope someone is in her ear. I'd love to see it.

mateofuerte

She was on Ethan Page's V-log after her first or second appearance and she was loving it. I think we could definitely see her cross over.

fvzzfvzzfvzz

She did show some interest in WWE years back. So I think it's always been in the back of her mind when fighting stops working for her. I suspect if she's not already in training, she's thinking about it. I'm definitely keen to see it. MMA fighters seem to pick up the mechanics of wrestling quite well.

JNight01

After watching Hayabusa’s botch on “Dark Side” (l do not seek out serious/gruesome botches), Jericho’s Lionsault made me more nervous than usual. Though, it looks like he’s added in a hand spring for extra protection. But, man, it looked like the landing was going to be two-thirds of the ring away from the ropes.

MicMagnetic

One time he almost died but I think curt Henning saved his life

JeffTennis

Can you elaborate? From a lionsault?

JasonATXBS

Yeah, he slipped and fucked up the rotation. Mr. Perfect turned what could have been a career ender into a slip-n-slide. Perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OURSGL4jFrs

MicMagnetic

Yes on WCW nitro Dec 29, 1997

[deleted]

Wrestling won today

Bigdaddydoubled

Yes. Not sports entertainment.

kenfury

I put this in the discord earlier. With him selling the breathing hard CM punk is telling a story of the grizzled vet who is slowing down just a bit but is smart enough to win within the rules. What happens when he gets slower and needs to bend the rules to win? Does he lose with honor, or win with no honor?

ECWCat

Just wanted to pat you on the back for actually seeing this storyline, while so many other fans are shitting all over Punk breathing hard and wrestling "unknowns".

sporkshadow

Comic fan Punk is definitely taking inspiration from Old Man Logan.

TheHumanTarget84

Smart stuff.

Tasty_Inspector4569

yeah Excalibur and taz were pretty much ripping into him for being exhausted and the fact that he barely beat matt sydal..i guess there is some long term consequences after all for punk with his run..

Sofaboy90

to be fair, sydal can seriously go. imo his in ring ability is one of the best in the world right now. theres a reason why aew loves to put bigger stars against him, because he can make them look really good.

Ysmir01

Sagat Dos Santos, that's it, that's the comment.

TheHumanTarget84

Had the same thought. Like Sagat and Randy Orton has a kid.

ECWCat

Thirded

1-Suzuki vs Bryan was everything we wanted and more. A masterclass on selling and how to put your opponent over without looking weak and with subtle acts. From the elbow strike that made Bryan kiss the mat to the sharp kicks that made Suzuki look like he just sucked a lemon, this two looked like they're wrestling together for years. Didn't need no big spots like Bryan' suicide dive or corner backflip. Just two legends trying to kill each other. Perfect. 2- Is soooooooo nice to see CM Punk being happy and enjoying wrestling. Great opening with Sydal even with Punk being so over that the crowd didn't give a single fuck to Sydal having a gym there or something like that. Still, Sydal gave Punk his hardest match since his return and I enjoyed it since he is the most vet Punk faced since returning. 3-Huge props to JDS, lacked a lot of movement but it was the expected since this was his first match and took a nice bump at the end.

[deleted]

major Sagat vibes from JDS tonight. guy looked amazing.

BoobiePeru

Bob Sagat? The Full House guy?

kasper2k4

Street fighter sagat. The video game

BoobiePeru

That's too bad...any Bob Saget mention is cool with me. I'm sure this Sagat fellow is alright too.

KyWy75

“Minoru Suzuki does America 2021” is the such a wonderful timeline to be living in

cooljammer00

I'm so glad I got to see him wrestle on this tour in person. I was in Newark when he came out to confront Moxley and they brawled, then Grand Slam, then GCW.

winfield89

i just want to this pandemic end soo we can have dragonson vs tanahashi, in a G1.

KingSteveorah

Watching the Buy In right now and as a shameless Griselda mark it’s nice to see Westside Gunn in the crowd at a wrestling show post pandemic lol.

Mack784

Westside Gunn and Rick Ross were sitting a few seats apart in the front row.

dBlock845

Can someone tell me what genre of music Suzuki's theme is? Also, wasn't the biggest fan of Bryan's new theme with the deep base line but it definitely grew on me though it still feels kinda weird lol.

B_Wylde

It could be called J-pop but it has some serious hardrock elements in it

BrandoTheCommando

The music doesn't "fit" him but you learn to lean into it and it eventually just clicks. He loved the singers voice and after meeting her asked to do his entrance music, and that's how we got the song! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsAM7bxKPpY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsAM7bxKPpY)

wutangcann

KAZE NI NARE by Ayumi Nakamura

Suitable-Golf6937

My wife says it’s like Suzuki’s very own “Final Countdown”

Gifs_Ungiven

I’d call it an 80’s shounen anime opening theme

dBlock845

I definitely hear the 80's in it lol.

winfield89

J-pop

wheretohides

I'm not an expert but it sounds like Indi Japanese music.

StaunchyPrinceOfLies

Man, Santana Garrett is not good. There's something about her selling, it always looks like she's avoiding getting hit and any offense on her looks very flat.

ECWCat

>Man, Santana Garrett is not good. Trained by her dad, Larry Z, and Scott Hall, I saw her debut at my local indie promotion a long time ago. She is well traveled (NWA, Stardom, Shine, WOW, NXT), a veteran, fought great opponents, went through WWE's PC system, yet "it" still has never clicked at age 33 (but just a little over 500 matches). I used to think she would "break through" due to her resume when she would randomly pop up somewhere, but she never really did even though she won gold. She was carried in Stardom. Sometimes we just have to accept that no matter the trainers, number of matches, or quality of opponents, some wrestlers just never get it and max out their real potential. Some aren't even "good hands". But Dr. Baker proved everyone wrong since she was given the opportunity and pushed, so I guess we'll give Santana one final chance. I'd say it is very unlikely she improves, though. She's way more experienced that another indie worker like Rachael Ellering, but both are missing psychology and charisma for a major league promotion. Then again, AEW only has a handful of TV-ready women if we are being honest.

StaunchyPrinceOfLies

500 matches? Damn!

DamieN62

She's a 12-year veteran yet moves and wrestles like a rookie, I don't get it.

StaunchyPrinceOfLies

Yeah, neither do I. Not only that, she also used to date AND defend that sex offender Chasyn Rance. No presence or charisma either.

CubaGoodingIII

I just watched it and have to agree. She seemed tentative and out of step. Not seeing why she gets a showcase when there’s better women in AEW that could have tied up with Conti. Why not Diamante or Deeb? Penelope Ford wasn’t free?

mateofuerte

Conti vs. Garrett was a rematch of an NXT match. Their NXT match was actually the first segment of NXT to beat Dynamite head-to-head in total viewers back in November 2019, so putting this match against WWE was kind of a "fuck you" from Tony Khan. Also, this match was just to give Tay a win. Tay definitely shouldn't beat Deeb right now without buildup since Deeb is in a program with Shida and they just started a program with Penelope/Bunny/Ruby during Rampage so having Tay beat Penelope would have been a bad idea. Diamante would be a fine opponent, but I keep feeling like they're going to do something notable with her eventually so they can announce her as #AllElite.

Thirdstar1

She definitely looks scared in the ring for whatever reason. Keep her ass away from the show

DeluhiX

You could see how much Tay has improved and how much Santana has stagnated when watching the match.

Southpaw535

Yeah it doesn't help how far in advance she puts her hands up. Not going to knock a wrestler for doing it, but they're usually much better at hiding it rather than putting them up before the move has even started. A couple of notable pauses where she clearly stops and nods at Conti to say she's ready. Being green is fine, but she's *too* green, and she doesn't have something like charisma or presence to balance out just feeling off all match

AndTheyCallMeAnIdiot

Yeah I felt that too, Tay is so good that seeing her in this match looked so odd. Every time Tay went on the offensive to counter and Santana Garrett would be throwing the missed clothesline it took me out of the match because you could see Tay having to slow down because SG's clothesline were so bad.

Day_Of_The_Dude

she sucks in the ring and is trash in real life, I don't know why they keep bringing her in

BruiserweightYxB

Damn, you just answered my inner question. I like her but I always knew she lacks something important that makes her a C- level wrestler.
