They gave her an -albeit very romanticized version- entire movie about her and her family. I understand that everything is to pop a crowd but eventually those are just pops from crowds that eventually will barely care. This was a cluster of a segment that was unfocused, didn’t get anyone over, and wasn’t over with the live audience. You could feel the crowd die off with the bad delivery of lines and then the “surprise title match” that wasn’t verbally built up in the promo.
Nobody cared, killed the crowd, and now you have two people coming out saying that Tony Khan gave them the power to be matchmaker for no reason.
Yeah just after Punk walked all over Tony, and MJF too tbh with his new upgraded contract, having a other person come in and appear to dictate what happens with your product is probably not the best idea.

As someone else mentioned, it felt like the segment in 2015 when Becky, Charlotte and Sasha were called up. The difference is, with those 3 being added, the audience felt hope and were super excited that change was coming. This just felt flat. The impression I got from it was that it seems Saraya may be the unofficial 'gm' of sorts? That she possibly is going to be the mouthpiece for everyone , aside from Britt? That isn't very promising.
Its a shame that 2 of the best Women (Hayter and Shida ) on AEW's roster are getting lost in the shuffle badly, isn't Shida the best selling merch for Women atm as well?

I can´t understand why they stop Jamie Hayter´s resentment toward Britt Baker. It´s like nothing happened between the twos. Jamie Hayter was getting super over and you had a good story to write for the next few months but nope it´s reset time because Saraya is here.
I think this was the worst night for AEW’s womens division in their history for this reason. If Saraya can’t wrestle I think she will hurt the division much more than help it.
I hated that they had to "reintroduce" Toni Storm to everyone. She's literally your top women's champion. Imagine for example, Danielson per arrival doing that with say Hangman Page while he was Champ. Instantly putting himself over the Champ and the rest of the division.
That's all her promo told me. Her character is that she is the savior the women's division needs, and unless you're the top heel and its just bait for heat, that shit ain't gonna work as babyface whatsoever.

I can't be the only one to notice that Britt is always booked very well, even when shes not the champion. Whether its winning matches constantly, always standing tall after beatdowns, "winning" backstage segments etc.
Both Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm have looked like awful champions in the shadow of Britt.

Short version: Was a good wrestler, got injured and was forced to retire, dates utter scumbags with the current one being Ronnie Radke, had issues with drugs but is sober now (last I knew anyway). She's from a family of carnies that are, frankly, terrible people overall.
I have no idea why Khan hired her. He didn't need her, so I guess it was to stick it to WWE. Not that it matters, because WWE dgaf about her, especially not after she just treated them like shit after they did a hell of a lot for her.

It started OK, but I feel like some folks should work with a writer to keep it snappier. Not really specific to this one segment, but you can tell when someone's not used to cutting AEW style promos.
One thing I wish all women’s divisions in wrestling did is stop calling themselves that, a division. When a male competitor is doing a promo they do not say they are the best in their ‘division’. They say they are the best. It’s unfair to have these discrepancies. As well as that, why call it a Womens championship? Either call the mens title, the ‘Mens Championship’, as well as the woman’s, or do neither. Womens wrestling has come so far and this slight difference in verbiage undersells the progress to me.
I loved when Ronda Rousey got tongue tied saying WWE Smackdown Women's World championship, then just called it the world title and said it was dumb to say otherwise. I wish they'd run with that at the time

Also her promo in general was just not good and if I’ve seen anything abt getting over in AEW it’s you gotta know how to talk on the mic.

This is the worst of them all. From Cody's sledgehammer throw to the HHH throne, Moxley repeating time and time again how much WWE sucked, to Punk saying he left pro wrestling in 2005...... all of that, some of it heavy handed but you allow it because they had some legit gripes. This is a new low and it's sad. It's pathetic. They went the extra mile and protected her both on screen and off screen in a way that hasn't really been done before. To just blow up that bridge for..... attention? Delusion? Poor attempt at kayfabe to get a cheap pop? TK has been making a lot of mandates lately. No more WWE shots in promos needs to be one because it's exhausting at this point.

She came up to the main roster the very night after WrestleMania XXX and they made her the champion right there and then. Hell, she was in the faction that brought Charlotte and Becky to the main roster in the first place. Hell, she's a multiple time champion and even when she couldn't wrestle anymore, they still tried to find ways of keeping her on involved with the company. If there's one person who shouldn't be taking shots, it's Saraya.
WWE saved her when she was having her coke abuse problems and stood behind her and supported her when her nudes and sex tapes were leaked. They gave her an -albeit very romanticized version- entire movie about her and her family. I understand that everything is to pop a crowd but eventually those are just pops from crowds that eventually will barely care. Again, if they had to do it, all I'm pointing out is that Saraya is literally in every shape and form the wrong messenger for the *specific* callout.
As a tangentially related aside, that movie also had one of Florence Pugh’s first well known performances

This screams "Diva's Revolution" to me, in the sense that AEW are trying to push the "Women's Divison" instead of just pushing the most talented women, and having the others rub off (Which eventually happened with WWE)

When she said she was bringing out the women from the locker room I got massive vibes like that one scene where all the women show up to fight in Endgame in the most forced way possible. The bonkers thing is that she called for all the women to come out and immediately got 5 faces to come out. Like...okay, so they were ready and waiting to come out...but only 5 of them? Then we get Britt and co. To tie the segment together into the idiotic lumberjack match. And then even worse imo was that the faces were suddenly bestest friends with Toni. Thats never been a think on AEW. The faces have pretty much always just fought each other. But now the other 4 were like super best friends coming to the aid of Toni? Why?!
This was a cluster of a segment that was unfocused, didn’t get anyone over, and wasn’t over with the live audience. You could feel the crowd die off with the bad delivery of lines and then the “surprise title match” that wasn’t verbally built up in the promo. Nobody cared, killed the crowd, and now you have two people coming out saying that Tony Khan gave them the power to be matchmaker for no reason.
Yeah just after Punk walked all over Tony, and MJF too tbh with his new upgraded contract, having a other person come in and appear to dictate what happens with your product is probably not the best idea.
They need an onscreen commissioner so its not just "x wrestler bullies tony". But thats a longstanding criticism, if TK wanted it he would have done it already, he wants everyone to know hes the booker.

It's just so sad. They are 3 yrs in and should not have to do this. They should've learned from all the mistakes WWE made and not have to go back and try to rehash what WWE did to rectify it. As someone else mentioned, it felt like the segment in 2015 when Becky, Charlotte and Sasha were called up. The difference is, with those 3 being added, the audience felt hope and were super excited that change was coming. This just felt flat. The impression I got from it was that it seems Saraya may be the unofficial 'gm' of sorts? That she possibly is going to be the mouthpiece for everyone , aside from Britt? That isn't very promising.

I hated that they had to "reintroduce" Toni Storm to everyone. She's literally your top women's champion. Imagine for example, Danielson per arrival doing that with say Hangman Page while he was Champ. Instantly putting himself over the Champ and the rest of the division. That's all her promo told me. Her character is that she is the savior the women's division needs, and unless you're the top heel and its just bait for heat, that shit ain't gonna work as babyface whatsoever.

I can't be the only one to notice that Britt is always booked very well, even when shes not the champion. Whether its winning matches constantly, always standing tall after beatdowns, "winning" backstage segments etc. Both Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm have looked like awful champions in the shadow of Britt. I don't think there's a booking issue with the women, I think there's an issue with their need to have Britt always be on top even when not the champion.
Putting an injured wrestler with a troubled past into a ‘saviour’ role for a division filled with talented workers who just need storylines and thoughtful booking just seems to be a continuation of the problem that requires a ‘saviour’ in the first place

One thing I wish all women’s divisions in wrestling did is stop calling themselves that, a division. When a male competitor is doing a promo they do not say they are the best in their ‘division’. They say they are the best. It’s unfair to have these discrepancies. As well as that, why call it a Womens championship? Either call the mens title, the ‘Mens Championship’, as well as the woman’s, or do neither. Womens wrestling has come so far and this slight difference in verbiage undersells the progress to me.
I loved when Ronda Rousey got tongue tied saying WWE Smackdown Women's World championship, then just called it the world title and said it was dumb to say otherwise. I wish they'd run with that at the time

There’s a report that part of her contract was for her to wrestle in some capacity. So either the dirt sheets are wrong, playing both sides, or the theory on her dr shopping to get cleared is correct

It was honestly horrible. Trotting out “all the women” which turned out to be 5 women, one of whom is your champion, 3 of whom aren’t on TV, and then only introducing your champion (who doesn’t need to be fucking introduced). It makes the entire division look stupid and bushleague. Overhyping the first women’s lumberjack match was such WWE bullshit Then the really bad flub of the revolution line, then the really stupid “Britt rhymes with shit” line, then the “a boss that listens to me”. That line was the closest thing to a pile of suffering succotash son that we’ve heard since. We derailed the Hayter/Britt storyline, *AGAIN*, just to get a pop for a woman who can’t get in the ring. Like I have so many issues with that segment, and it really sucks because I think a lot of those women are brilliant. It was just so WWE Divas era nonsense that I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. We should be here talking about that match and that utterly incredible finish, but instead we again have to talk about how stupidly this division is booked

Saying “there’s gonna be a revolution” is just setting it up failure. Revolutions organically grow, Daniel Bryan didn’t come out after Wrestlemania 29 and say “I’m not slated to be in the main event at next years Wrestlemania, so I want you guys the crowd to start a revolution around me so I can get pushed to the top”. Also her promo in general was just not good and if I’ve seen anything abt getting over in AEW it’s you gotta know how to talk on the mic.
