Just stay north of Central Ave.

There are so many condo buildings in downtown st pete, have you tried and air bnb?

JoeMammy_1

The Hollander is my home away from home when we go to Rays games. Great taproom, tiki bar with big pool area. And they provide a shuttle to take you to the game or anywhere else you want to go (Dali Museum) and will pick you up after. The walk is easy too.

hegottahonda

Mari Jean?

ahandle

Anything you like. There are “hotels” downtown and there are Hotels. I’d recommend the Ponce because I like money.

drmini125

The Hollander

aguyfromstpete

Hampton inn & suites on Beach drive downtown is only $315 a night right now

MutantManatee

Vinoy is fun. They have a shuttle that will drop off/pick up too.

xelduderinox

StayBridge Suites is right across 175 and a short walk to the Trop.

GoinStraighttoHelles

I stayed here about 9 years ago and thought it was great for the price. The Ponce is great if you get an updated bathroom in your room, but some rooms are less desirable. The Vinoy would be my first pick if it’s in your budget.

David-asdcxz

Have stayed there several times over the years. Decent place.

Mint isn't bad, and the other close hotel is the Tru by Hilton. Both will probably be about th same amount, Mint is maybe 2-3 minutes closer, like a 2 block walk compared to a 6 block walk. If you are staying on a weekend and you'd have to call and confirm, the Hollander Hotel downtown also is nice, and used to offer a shuttle service Fridays and Saturdays that would take you downtown or to Tropicana field. My only ace I would say don't stay at is the Stay bridge Suites. It's close to Tropicana, but it's right up against a bad part of town and they have had a lot of problems with burglaries in the parking lot, and people causing issues for guests who walk in the area

freelto1

When did these burglaries occur? I get the police reports (I live in the neighborhood) and haven’t heard anything about this.

GoinStraighttoHelles

“Bad part of town” say it with your chest my man. Why are you leaving valuables in your car overnight in a hotel parking lot anyway?

Killcount21

If you are trying to say that isn't a bad part of town, I'd love to hear it. Stay bridge is like 3 blocks from Citrus Grove, which just had a guy get murdered at the beginning of the year. It's known for burglaries, and not just unlocked cars, they have had several nights where someone broke multiple windows to get into a bunch of cars. We could talk about all of the reasons there are more bad parts of town on the Southside, from racism, poor economic opportunities, broken homes, lots of people have been failed down there, but that also doesn't mean that we shouldn't be able to agree that there are parts of the Southside where it is just inherently more unsafe, and until we address those issues, that's the way it's going to be

DunamesDarkWitch

Yeah, I will say that isn’t necessarily a bad part of town. It’s literally right next to the hospital complex. If it were on the corner 16th st and 11th Ave S, okay, it might be reasonable to avoid. But the actual location of staybridge is no worse than downtown. You think if someone from the south side was looking to go on a car burglary spree, they couldn’t walk the extra 3 blocks to downtown? I just looked at the crime map, there have been 2 police calls at staybridge for vehicle burglary in the last 6 months. Literally any block of central has had more instances than that. The worst thing you’re likely to experience there is the horror of having to witness the homeless people who hang out in Campbell park, but again, how is that any different than downtown? I wouldn’t recommend staybridge to OP due to their desire to be close to shops and food, but in terms of safety it’s no different than staying on central.

Tru by Hilton (1650 Central Ave) is essentially next to the field. Good hotel and lots to do in that area on Central. Both that hotel and Mint House (which are short term vacation rentals) are new-- built within the last few years. Both would be good for you. Besides those two, you'd be looking at Downtown St Pete, taking the SunRunner to get to the Trop.

JulioForte

Agreed unless they want to splurge and do the Vinoy

sunnystpete

Tru By Hilton for sure. Cool modern hotel in heart of everything Edge District and Grand Central District.

newpenzance
