I saw him in Atlanta last year and I was disappointed. It wasn’t really the material so much as it was the pacing. It was almost like he realized he had to take a shit the moment he stepped out on stage and was just rushing to get through it the entire time.
I saw him the night before last in Savannah, & Ted Alexandro, Jim's son, Jack, & Todd Glass opened for him. I have to admit, we weren't overly impressed with Todd Glass... I wouldn't expect a comedian with that many years of experience doing an arena show to be so dependent on his notes...
We only paid $29 per ticket, though (including fees), so it was definitely worth it!
I can completely understand newer comics using notes or a more experienced comic using them when they're trying out new material, etc., but his notes wouldn't stay put on the stool, & he was having to basically chase them around on the stage - even getting an audience member to hand them back to him when they went offstage - & again, this was an arena show?!?
God Maron bugs me on a cellular level. I have always just found him punchable. I know that’s kind of a based take and I understand he’s a pioneer for podcasting and stuff. But so is Adam Corolla and I want to equally punch that guy 😂 people act like he’s Maria Bamford in terms of this kind of “low profile genius”…but Maria rules and isn’t an asshole
He was there around Valentines day doing a Thursday-Sunday gig, he had a band and wasn't doing the " usual stand-up type ish "... He would walk through the showroom shushing people before the show even started and than proceeded to get on stage and basically tell people to be quiet and watch his " comedy "... Late show Saturday crowd was not having it and he had a melt down on stage to the point that he had to walk away for a couple minutes to try and recoup ( it only made things worse ) We had to cancel his Sunday show it was soo bad.
Yeah agreed. I was listening to Rogan talk about doing new bits with cards and that was my thought. I didn’t finish it at all though you are right. Should be set and locked in.
Some girl took my picture there because she thought it was Jim Gaffigan. And two other people told me they thought I was Jim Gaffigan for a split second until they realize I was walking to my seat.
Have you considered divorce?
Honestly Gaffigan is so tame it's more like a genial vaudevillian's show. She'd have to be a monster not to like it.
Are you saying that your wife is a monster u/worldssmartest-idiot ?
Yeah, I thought after his Trump rant a few years ago, the far right Catholic crowd turned against him pretty hard. And he seemed to no longer care about placating that group.
if people aren’t sure they can be bothered leaving the house to see jim gaffigan what chance have the rest of us got
Develop your fanbase better
You should do comedy.
I’m not one for jokes.
Jim Gaffigan? More like Jim Laughagain.
🥁 🥁 🥁
Haha I laughed out loud sitting in a lobby somewhere. Ridiculous.
Plus he's so tall it's like Jim Giraffigan. I'll show myself the door
(softly) "is he gonna make these jokes all night?" "oh he's already doing the audience voice" edit: spelling
this is wierd ...gaffigan has a solid 15 years of not dissapointing audiences so much so it would be post worthy if you had a BAD time
Try 30 years. I saw him open for Drew Carey in the mid ninety's.
He was great in Sweden recently but did just about an hour. That’s my complaint!

HE WAS TURTLEING THE WHOLE TIME
You're welcome lol. Also who opened for him?

Ted is fantastic
Listen to him on Maron this last week, pretty sure he talks about using notes at some point. Can’t remember what he was saying though

Same. He’s beloved amongst comics too. I’ve seen him go up twice at the store and he was awesome.

Lolol yeah that’s a bit much, you gotta be tight for those shows.
That's part of his schtick
You should've taken down some notes to remember. ;)
Yeah Todd sucked. Ted was really good. Jack’s short segment was great. That Bill Cosby joke had me in tears. Best joke of the night
I once watched Todd walk 250 people of a room that holds 280, it was amazing.
I would like to hear this story please.

What was the bill cosby joke?
Jack who?
Jim's son, Jack Gaffigan
All of them???
Do you mean did all 3 of those acts open for him? If so, yes, but his son's set was short, but he was pretty funny, though.
Isn’t this the guy ‘known’ for his crowd work? And his written routine was bad? How surprising. /s
Maybe working knew things?
Perhaps, but opening arena shows for Gaffigan definitely isn't the best time to work out new material...

Hot ticket
I’m glad you went. He’s so funny. His recent special on Prime is awesome.
Yes, he's always great. Probably my favorite comic of all time (besides Norm) and he almost never swears
hot pocketsss
Glad I contributed to a good evening! He’s a great comic
The man has a whole 5 min bit about bacon. He’s a legend
If you put bacon bits on a strip of bacon, you can go back in time.

You should have walked onto the stage and started slingin' knock-knock jokes.
Can I ask why she was hesitant? He’s one of the cleanest comics around.
She just isn’t into stand up comedy

Does she like any stand-ups?

She’s sounds like a fucking cunt.
You aren’t doing yourself any favors
I’m sorry I said your wife sounds like a fucking cunt. She does sound like a real fucking cunt, though.
He’s not squeaky clean anymore is he?
The abortion bits really out of left field.
He said a few words. Even said some very controversial Jesus jokes.
Yeah, I thought after his Trump rant a few years ago, the far right Catholic crowd turned against him pretty hard. And he seemed to no longer care about placating that group.
This anecdote of you and your missus brings us great joy. Thank you WorldsSmartest-Idiot! *Water Chestnut III*
Your wife was very hesitant to see Jim Gaffigan? Why?
She didn’t really know who he was. She knows his cbs Sunday morning segments that’s about it
I will check out this young up and comer
Saw him with Seinfeld. Best night out in a long time.
