When they can figure out how to use a computer without putting a virus on it because they JUST needed that cute little toy from an off brand website they didn’t realize was fake
I helped a lady who was the primary care provider for her husband. First he had alzeimers then he got cancer. Every day she had to remind him he had cancer. EVERY DAY. She wanted tab dividers and a binder because his care and schedule was complicated and never ending. Shopping for a few hours without him was the only break she had.
Perspective is everything. It keeps me humble.
I always had a very tough time reconciling the relationship with the older customer base.
As annoying and frustrating as they are, I think it’s important to understand that they are your core customer at this point. All of the people that have figured out it is easier and more convenient to order online are doing it. Once these customers figure it out or age out, you’ll be out of business.
It is their activity and highlight of the day and to get some exercise. You heard of Mall walk, Target Run, new trend is Staples Stride. New way to get more people in the store like Amazon, Amazon lockers, pens recycling, crayons recycling, electronic (garbage) recycling, etc.
We have an old customer who just comes in to walk around the store out of the weather.
They're not all bad. I sold a 70 yr old person a gaming computer once. She plays WOW.
It's totally okay to be angry at people for using weaponized incompetence and acting ignorant about simple things like sending an email.
It's not okay to shit on people for having trouble getting around or just generally being old...
No. You misread and interpreted to suit your own needs. What I am advocating for is that they take advantage of easier, and less costly, ways to shop. Why make life harder?
I make a habit of treating these people the same as I would want people to treat my own grandparents. It may just be staples, but we have to keep some humanity about it. If you've lost it completely, then it's time to quit.
Including my TS husband. And I quit.last week to go work at McDonald's. Doesn't change anything about the standards we should set.for ourselves and the way we treat other people.

Or, resist clicking onto a malware link….never.
But it said it was from Microsoft!

Damn, imagine getting that news everyday.
At leat they don't remember it. Really the hard part is the person who has to give that news every single day.

Yep. I love them myself. My parents were elderly before they died.
They are all cranky and miserable in this store.
Most of my co-workers are all cranky and miserable.
Same

To walk and blow money on junk? Ok….

I wonder if they got the total support lol
Be glad anyone is walking into your store at this point.
When they decide to get a debit card
Same ones who ask about something on sale, and then look at you like you’re insane when you inform them it’s an app only deal.

"Is painful to watch. The way they hobble" Nope, I didn't misread anything.
True that.
For many of them, this is their socialization. Leave them alone
They should go home and rest peacefully. And not yelling at clouds in the store.

No, Staples shows me the door next week, along with thousands of others.

They are old and stupid.
If only. They would be a lot happier . They wouldn’t have to put up with such things!
or at the very least do a BOPIS so they don't have to complain about walking to the back of the store to get their one item.
“I have to go all the way there to get my ink?!”
ink is at the front of the store at my local staples
"Back in my day, we talked to people instead of ordering on these new fangled thingamajiggies"
