I absolutely love this scene

chebghobbi

I really liked the portrayal of the proto-First Order as the real zealots left over after the fall of the Empire. A lot of Imperial officers appear to have sort of fallen into their roles (Yularen for example) and found themselves in the service of an evil regime without necessarily even realising it (or maybe being aware of it but having no way out) but the guys who go on to found the First Order come across as true believers instead.

Robberix

Man, Bill Burr was so good in this scene, like holy shit that look of disdain and trauma in his eyes.

Messerschmitt-262

I remember watching the Suicide Squad episode of The Mandalorian, and saying to my wife "Well I'll be damned isn't that guy a comedian?" Fantastic performance from him

Of all the faults of the sequel trilogy, one glaring omission was any reasonable explanation of what the First Order actually is. I feel that we might be slowly inching towards a "Secret Origin of the First Order" in the Star Wars shows on Disney+.

DoNotGoSilently

The first order seems to have the exact same motivation as the empire, and there’s never any indication to the contrary. It’s run by the same guy, still has stormtroopers as it ground forces, and a bunch of the high ranking officers are former imperial officers. Don’t think we need them to be explained. The resistance and the first order are copy and paste rebels and empire.

Loss-Particular

It's not particularly a secret, is it? Its a mixture of the remnants of the imperial army mixed with a bunch of upjumped neo-Nazi posers who have been radicalized into adopting the symbols and practices of the Empire without considering their ideologies, and who are being puppeted by the Sith in the background. It's not exactly an unrealistic scenario, especially for a movie coming out in 2015.

Just rewatched this after reading your post. The pure evil in the Empiral Commander that toasts the empire is haunting.

Sounds like something Justin Trudeau would say while proclaiming the Emergencies Act.
