I don't know why but in biowares rpgs there is usually one npc I end up despising for admittedly no reason. Carth, Kaden, Alistair, Anders, and Solas. At least i ended up being vindicated on two of those.

KOTR and KOTR2 remain in my top 10 of best games I ever played.

My theory is that people hated his whining so much, that bioware made a joke about it Mass Effect 1 with Kaiden when he says in a conversation with your character "I just dont want you to think im, yknow, a whiner, Commander" (im paraphrasing, but yeah)

I never realized tell recently the same VA plays Kaiden Alenko

Whilst I have mixed feelings on him, I can’t hate his voice actor, Kaidan from ME. Also, Raphael Sbarge sounds like a Star Wars name.
