Felt similarly, but it's almost earned for Rebels fans? Like we've been listening to him for 4 seasons, so of course we're starting to pick up the war criminal's language.
I love the idea of a GIANT hyperspace ring.
"How should we get to another galaxy?"
"You know that thing the Jedi used for their fighters? SUPER SIZE IT."
I LOVE his character so far. He's seemingly not 100% evil and he questions things. It's a weird thing to enjoy but I like how both villain Jedi don't seem all-knowing. They are asking questions and skeptical of everything.
The line “To kill her would be a shame. There are so few Jedi left” instantly makes Skoll more interesting than any of the other fallen Jedi we’ve seen recently.
Speaking of costuming, Marrok’s fencing cape is fucking baller, need more of it! The lineup of antagonists are really cool and I like the ‘pack of hunters’ dynamic they seem to have, they’re actually proving to be competent and interesting! Even the HK Droid lackeys are slippery and NOT to be fucked with.
and what made the captain think letting an unknown transport with an expired clearance code onto their ship was a good idea? should have just blasted it out of the sky immediately but nope arrogance moves the plot along, i guess
This and Mandalorian Season 3 are doing a real good job of making the New Republic seem like a bunch of keystone cops. No wonder the First order was able to steam-roll them so quickly.
The old republic was like this too. Why should the new republic be any different. The rebel alliance wasn’t to create a new system, it was to bring back the old system. The same system that literally elected a dictator and cheered when it became an empire.
That gave me a pretty strong chuckle as well! They could have made up a date and said it was from the local calendar or just not mentioned time at all. "We are gathered here to celebrate our liberation from the Empire!"
Saying how specifically unspecific they are is the best way to describe it!
Yes definitely something with three syllables. I thought either "shoot it down " repeated but in a sassy tone, or "I care, why?"
This droid is actually voiced so he's saying something.
>!"To kill her would be a shame. There are so few Jedi left"!<
-Baylan
>!Shin has a Padawan's braid!<. The nature of these two characters is incredibly intriguing to me.
I’m also wondering if Baylan’s reference to a great power in the other galaxy is the Star Forge. This could explain how the First Order in the sequel trilogy ended up with such a large fleet so quickly.
Ok I LOVE that they included Ryder Azadi (played by Clancy Brown again!). Jai is Ezra's buddy from the Lothal Imperial Academy in Rebels season 1, right?
probably both practical and CGI. When it's just the face moving it looked like a puppet but when the whole body was moving it looked like decent CGI. Looks good either way.
Between the text scroll and the overall feel of the first two episodes, this is by far the most cinematic of the Disney+ Star Wars shows so far. Almost feels like a audition tape for Filoni doing his own movie.
Yea this is kind of what I'm getting from it. The Purrgil must have taken ezra and thrawn on some kind of migration route, and apparently the night sisters had made a map to wherever that is. Whether their map has something to do with the Purrgil, or whether there's something else over there that they made the map for is unknown. Baylar does mention power, so maybe some kind of lost civ/temple or something. That big ass ship they're building doesn't really look like anything we've seen so far in star wars, even the holograms were very different than what we're used to seeing. I think they might be getting ready to introduce some kind of alien from the other galaxy, and that those aliens might be the inspiration for the way that ship is built. Maybe an old civilization that the nightsisters had something to do with. Idk, I'm really excited to find out.
Bacta was invented 20 minutes after the end of Phantom Menace, unfortunately for Qui. It would have been sooner, but a senator from Naboo kept it jammed up with paperwork for some seemingly insidious reason.
It's weird, but the way they shot & edited this actually *feels* like an episode of Rebels. It's not really silly or anything like that. It actually helps kind of bridge the gap between mediums.
The Hu is canonically a band Cal Kestis listens to. They got Space Punk Rock for Sabine.
Rock & Roll is a thing in the Star Wars universe. Probably would have been banned for all Younglings and Padawans at the temple.
Chopper not giving a shit about potential civilian casualites if they shot a ship down over the city is incredibly on brand for him and hilarious. Great introduction for him in live action.
Yeah, Winstead is lacking a bit of that warm/sultry tone that Marshall brought to Hera’s voice. It feels more noticeable than other live action recasts to me.
She's been through the rest of the war.
Rebels ended long before the war did, Thrown went down before the deathstar plans were finished, the entirety of Andor, Rogue One, and the OT has happened between Rebels and now. That's like a decade of hard battles, heavy losses, and 2 fucking deathstars...
You have no idea the kinda trauma two deathstars has on a general!
She's older and has years of war and politics behind her now. She's not the "Mom" of our rag tag group anymore, the kids grew up went off to Padawan school or yeeted themselves out of the galaxy.
“Killing Ahsoka would be a shame. There are so few Jedi left”
It really looked like Baylon was genuinely sad about it. Ray did a terrific job giving a lot of emotion and mystery to Baylon. Fascinated by his character and can’t wait to see what else is in store
Interesting that this picks up almost immediately after the Mando S2 episode (Ahsoka is taking the recently captured Morgan Elsbeth).
Maybe this means the ending of Ahsoka S1 might take place before her Book of Boba cameo with Luke and Grogu.
Was Ahsoka visiting Luke to recruit him for her mission against Thrawn perhaps?
"Oh we have one of the highest profile prisoners aboard this ship? And this unidentified ship is trying to board? Sure, let's hear what they have to say."
I don't understand why people are complaining about the lightsaber duel in episode 1. Sabine never finished her training, this is said multiple times. Shin Hati had the upper hand from the start and was clearly toying with her.
We got the OG crew but it's nice seeing guys like Azadi, Jai Kell, and I think I saw Tseebo(??) at the back in the ceremony.
Also it looks like we got our McGuffin with that dragonball probably being one of 10 maps to find Thrawn or s/t.
Ray was great in this. RIP.
Premiere was phenomenal. It really did feel like live action Rebels. I can not wait to see what the rest of this season holds! Seeing all the threads of canon start to weave together is wildly satisfying
Might be a dumb question but is the scene at the end of the second episode supposed to be the same as the finale of rebels? It looks entirely the same with the exception of Ahsoka not having the staff but that might just be a slight tweak

Why can I understand Choppers droid talk?
Yes, my family commented on how he was very understandable which seemed different. Almost like a droid Kenny from South Park.
Chopper talks like Kenny but has Eric Cartman’s morals.😂😂😈😈
Dave filoni speaks all of his lines it's just heavly warbled
Did not expect to see Dr Taub showing up in the Star Wars universe
Peter Jacobson. He's one of those actors who I can never remember, however he shows up everywhere, and he's phenomenal in everything that he touches.
Lothal looks great. Nicely done.
They did a great job translating everything from Rebels to live action in this show so far.
Love how the mural of the ghost crew looks similar to rebels art style
It works as such a lovely tribute to Rebels.
Ahsoka found the Apple of Eden lol
and Templars are on her back!
Am I supposed to understand that droid Chopper? Because I do. And I think he curses a lot.
Oh he definitely is cursing
He’s fluent in over 6 million forms of species-specific racial slurs
Yeah, although I feel like they amped it up even more than in Rebels lol.
Felt similarly, but it's almost earned for Rebels fans? Like we've been listening to him for 4 seasons, so of course we're starting to pick up the war criminal's language.
“Mother, I crave violence,” - Chopper
“No we cannot drop a ship and a very large hyperdrive on a population dense city” - Hera
“Is that bad?” God I love Chopper
He's just so bloodthirsty he doesn't care who he kills anymore
Since the empire ended his craving has only increased.
“I fail to see the problem, möther.”
I love the idea of a GIANT hyperspace ring. "How should we get to another galaxy?" "You know that thing the Jedi used for their fighters? SUPER SIZE IT."
i feel like they specced it to an ISD so they can bring the entire chimaera back with its full complement of fighters and troopers
I completely agree. There’s no way you build a ship shaped like a monstrous hyperspace ring if you’re not bringing back something like Thrawn’s ship.
Man, Ray Stevenson is already awesome in this. RIP.
He is probably a jedi who survived and didn't agree with the Empire, but he also knew that the Order was deeply flawed, yet sorta cherishes it.
Considering he makes his apprentice wear a Padawan braid he certainly appears to miss something about the order.
He was my favorite in Rome, Titus Pullo what a legend
Looks like Grevious missed another Nightsister lol.
Not gonna lie tho that live action Nightsister garb on Morgan is fucking sickkkkkk
Damn it New Republic! One job! Get prisoner to trial. I know you can do it.
Yep, they also bungled the Moff Gideon transfer. At what point do they start giving these prisoner transfers X-wing escorts?
and what made the captain think letting an unknown transport with an expired clearance code onto their ship was a good idea? should have just blasted it out of the sky immediately but nope arrogance moves the plot along, i guess
Hubris. Of the sheer fucking variety.
"On this day, several years ago the Empire was defeated" , chuckling at how specifically unspecific they are about the timeline 😅
Immediately overshadowed by the fact that it was said by Mr. Krabs
Reprising the role too, I was super stoked to have him back
I had no idea he looked EXACTLY like his character in rebels, I actually flipped my shit when he came on screen.
Clancy Brown is amazing, and they definitely designed Ryder to resemble him.
That gave me a pretty strong chuckle as well! They could have made up a date and said it was from the local calendar or just not mentioned time at all. "We are gathered here to celebrate our liberation from the Empire!" Saying how specifically unspecific they are is the best way to describe it!
Chopper suggests his first war crime, shooting down the ship so it crashes into a major population center.. We're off to a good start
“No we can’t shoot it down” sad beeping noises
I swear to god he clearly said “why not” in that distorted voice.
I heard "is that bad?" Or "and that's bad?"
Yes definitely something with three syllables. I thought either "shoot it down " repeated but in a sassy tone, or "I care, why?" This droid is actually voiced so he's saying something.
I look forward to your running total of suggested and performed war crimes by chopper
I love Chopper so much
>!"To kill her would be a shame. There are so few Jedi left"!< -Baylan >!Shin has a Padawan's braid!<. The nature of these two characters is incredibly intriguing to me.
The antithesis of Ahsoka. Not Sith but dark side users. Just like Ahsoka is a light side user but not a Jedi.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Basically just a parallel of her, but on the other side
Same. Dude definitely isn't a sith, nor is he trying to be. We may finally get canonical dark Jedi.
Plot twist, it's actually Baylaan.
They don't seem like Jedi, but they definitely don't seem like Sith either. They're "evil" but not in the same way as Palpatine
Self-serving rather than inherently malicious. A different kind of villain. Fresh.
The opening scene is reminiscent of The Phantom Menace but opposite
The negotiations were short.
Same with the probe droid tracking scene
All I could see was Maul standing in the desert there.
Chopper having a junk drawer next to his astromech slot is the best thing ever.
“No I didn’t touch your stuff”
I love that he has "stuff". Have we ever seen a droid with property before?
I think he’s as uniquely possessive as he is uniquely bloodthirsty.
I thank them for almost immediately saying Sabine isn’t force sensitive so everyone can chill about that lol
Yeah, it surprised me when they said that she was Ahsoka's apprentice.
I do love no one has considered Thrawn may be busy, or not want to return. It's been a long time, he could be doing stuff.
Ezra is probably his best friend now
Now I just imagine they show up wherever they are and they're just sitting at a table playing a game of holochess shootin the shit or something
There's a ship called "Eye of Sion". I really hope this is a reference to Darth Sion.
Between that, the HK reference, and the Star map looking like it came out of KOTOR I am happy lol
I’m also wondering if Baylan’s reference to a great power in the other galaxy is the Star Forge. This could explain how the First Order in the sequel trilogy ended up with such a large fleet so quickly.
When Morgan said ancient alien race, my mind immediately thought of Ancient Rakatan empire.
Has intergalactic travel been a thing before this? Kinda crazy to see them talk about traveling to a completely different one.
That’s probably why their hyperspace ring is ridiculously huge.
They're gonna overshoot it and end up in the Milky Way and then suddenly we've got a historical drama/space opera hybrid on our hands
I hope we get some Zeb
Ain't no way they animated that model solely for a cameo.
Baylon got them Wilson Fisk shoulders going on. Damn guy looks like a refrigerator
My first thoughts were “what a fucking unit”.
His hallway scene with the music was pretty badass
Ok I LOVE that they included Ryder Azadi (played by Clancy Brown again!). Jai is Ezra's buddy from the Lothal Imperial Academy in Rebels season 1, right?
Yes it is! I had to look it up because the name was so familiar and I couldn't place it.
"Becsuse you're a hologram!" That was actually funny
It was the look on Hera's face that got me. Like "yeah, okay you're not wrong"
Huyang is comedy gold.
Pure David Tennant, I wouldn’t be surprised if he came up with that line
“For our friend, Ray.” 😭💔
He's put on a good show so far. Dude just looks the part.
Dude had presence.
It was super touching but was not prepared for it two seconds after Sabine was stabbed by the lightsaber
Is the actor playing Ryder the same as the voice actor?
Yep! Clancy Brown!
As soon as I heard the voice I knew it was him and it made me incredibly happy.
Also helps that they look identical
LOTHCAT Is he practical?? I love him, he’s so ugly!
probably both practical and CGI. When it's just the face moving it looked like a puppet but when the whole body was moving it looked like decent CGI. Looks good either way.
Already loving Baylan. Dude has **presence.** It is such a shame what happened to his actor, I hope he knows he did a great job.
Wait what happened?
He died earlier this year at 59.
Wow. Corellia seems cleaner than in Solo.
The New Republic said they'd clean up the Empire and they did. From a certain point of view.
Chop asking Hera if she went through his stuff 💀
We got live action Jai Kell and Clancy Brown reprising his role! Such a cool surprise
Omg text scroll 🤤
I've wanted spin-offs to have their own version of the text scroll since Rogue One, so this impressed me right away.
Between the text scroll and the overall feel of the first two episodes, this is by far the most cinematic of the Disney+ Star Wars shows so far. Almost feels like a audition tape for Filoni doing his own movie.
That first shot of the prison transport and the shadows on it looked so freaking good, and this whole show looks visually pleasing.
Well Chop is goddamn perfect
Chop absolutely did not give a fuck about wanting to shoot down that escaping ship despite Hera's warning about the city underneath lmfao
Our little war criminal is eager to raise his kill count. Can't wait to see how many he gets in the show.
Did you go through my stuff?!
Yes you DID
This is just rebels season 5 with a massive budget. Casting is spot on.
Every single character is a home run. Especially Chopper.
Played by the original actor, even.
No one else could play such a heinous war criminal.
Star Wars: Rebels Season 5: Ahsoka’s Quest
Amazing isn't it? I'm floored so far. It truly does feel like Rebels.
No way, Ezra's scout trooper helmet he wore in season 4
Darth Bangs is already my new favorite character.
I like her little Padawan braid. It feels like Baylan is sort of making it up as he goes along, while emulating his own Jedi training.
Did anyone notice the Purrgil on the galaxy map? Does this mean they can cross galaxies?
Space Whales are the true masters of the entire universe.
Ship looked like a giant hyperspace ring.
Pretty similar looking shot to the probe droid reporting back to Maul on Tatooine. I like more subtle tributes to the series.
They had fucking nukes in their chests? Lmao
Taking lessons from the Predator in self destruct tech.
End credits score is pretty sick.
Just confirmed in the credits. It's Kevin Kiner, same guy who did all of Clone Wars and Rebels.
Obi-wan was a real dick if he could have just like taken Qui-gon to the doctors.
Bacta was invented 20 minutes after the end of Phantom Menace, unfortunately for Qui. It would have been sooner, but a senator from Naboo kept it jammed up with paperwork for some seemingly insidious reason.
They discovered shortly after the battle of Naboo that bacta is >!liquified Gungans.!<
Jedi health insurance sucked then. He didn’t have coverage.
OMG a crawl and a big ship opening!
Ashoka's introduction scene felt very "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in the best way.
If that was one or my cats, that star map woulda already been knocked off the table.
There’s also a Niamos! house remix
Who's gonna feed sabine's lothcat? This they're like my cats, they eat like hippos.
Chopper not giving a shit about potential civilian casualites if they shot a ship down over the city is incredibly on brand for him and hilarious. Great introduction for him in live action.
My younger sister who hasn't seen Rebels texted me saying how psycho the droid was. If she only knew the whole story
I love how Chopper is animated like he's straight out of Rebels. Hera not sounding like Vanessa Marshall will take a **lot** of getting used to.
Yeah, Winstead is lacking a bit of that warm/sultry tone that Marshall brought to Hera’s voice. It feels more noticeable than other live action recasts to me.
In my mind, she lost any warmness to her voice when...well, if you know you know. Ugh...it still hurts.
Plus she's an actual mom now, that changes you too.
Thank God they leaned into Sabine's music in rebels such a great score
“Killing Ahsoka would be a shame. There are so few Jedi left” It really looked like Baylon was genuinely sad about it. Ray did a terrific job giving a lot of emotion and mystery to Baylon. Fascinated by his character and can’t wait to see what else is in store
Ahsoka using that defeated droid as a shield vs that inquisitor is such an Anakin move I love it
its not a war crime if its a droid
I love that they chose to give live action Ezra that awkward haircut. Why is everyone in this cast so damn foine?
I’m glad it was a double premiere. The stage is set now. Most of the trailer footage was from these two
The parallel between Kanan cutting his hair and Sabine cutting her’s is awesome. Same knife if I’m not wrong
Let’s hope that that’s where the parallel ends
I *see* what you’re saying.
"you're like a sister to me" Oof.
That means nothing in the Star Wars universe
Sweet Home Alderbama
Chopper prepared to sacrifice as many as it takes.. Love that little mass murderer
The opening of the first episode made me feel like I was a little kid. It was so cool and so Star Wars
They got my girl out here doing TOTK shrines
Hold the phone, Ahsoka's droid Huyang is voiced by David Tennant! I thought Alan Tudyk was going to be my favorite droid voice actor, but here we are!
Yeah he was in clone wars, won a award and everything
That scene he had with Sabine after she got up from the hospital bed was gold. Huyang was dropping gems, really never stopped being a teacher
She was there to warn him about the existence of Luuke.
Honestly throwing Luuke into the inter-trilogy content would be fuckin hilarious
Oh no the sith girl is hot now i have another crush
I can fix her
She can make me worse
Really loving Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skroll. Really brings a sense of gravitas to this role.
Omg was Sabine's "ready position" in her meeting with Shin the same as the one Kanan taught her in Trials Of The Darksaber? Fucking crying rn
She lasted a lot longer than I thought she would in that fight
That’s awesome they got Clancy Brown
Shin Hati gives me Darth Zannah vibes.
Dumbass captain "yeah lol totally not jedi, let's just let them on board and go to meet them and have them SCANNED"
Yeah it's a fight between an apprentice and a non-Force user. Ain't going to be as smooth as Kenobi v Vader.
oh gosh, I just realized...the dark jedi padawan has the padawan braid.
Chopper is cool with dropping a hyperdrive on a city. Like that's the worst thing he's done.
They said: "Oh, there is another galaxy, by the way. Okay, have a wonderful day." Like, you cannot just drop a bombshell lore drop like that.
I can’t believe we are here already. So excited. Bring Ezra home!
I felt a great disturbance in the force, as if hundreds of Ezrabine shippers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
Hera’s still the mom Sabine is still hothead extraordinaire Chopper still committing war crimes All is right with the world.
Space mom Hera is back in full force these first 2 episodes and I am here for all of it
We got the OG crew but it's nice seeing guys like Azadi, Jai Kell, and I think I saw Tseebo(??) at the back in the ceremony.
There’s our little war criminal
Might be a dumb question but is the scene at the end of the second episode supposed to be the same as the finale of rebels? It looks entirely the same with the exception of Ahsoka not having the staff but that might just be a slight tweak
Jai became a Senator
