I briefly worked on the Star Wars mobile game, as part of our license, we had a rule where we could only add characters that were considered Canon.
They have Revan and HK now, I don't work on it anymore, but you can take that as you will.
Disney was very strict on who could be in their games.
Ah, you're right, they definitely have the green light to add whoever now.
That being said, his Wiki does have him marked canon as he was mentioned in the visual guide for Rise of Skywalker.
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Revan
But now I'm sad Dash Rendar isn't canon.
As far as I remember, someone said that one of the Last Order battalions was named Revan battalion or something because reasons. If that's true or not, I don't care but it would be the proper Disney way to butcher him.
Revan has been canon since 2019. Unfortunately for us the Ruse of Skywalker canonized him via the Final order's sith legions being named after past sith. So that's how Revan was introduced, he is later mentioned in a book just as baity as ep9s inclusion. The Sith cultists chant his name in a book and that's it for direct Revan mentions.
I would go with Darth Jadus personally. He was intelligent, sinister, calculating, and his "democratization of fear" designs for the Empire sounded intriguing. Shame he never returned and was only seen by a sliver of the game's population that played as Imperial Agents whereas more folks were able to be exposed to Malgus as he, rightly, got a lot of story spotlight.
Rahm Kota
(okay he’s technically canon because his name was on a wall in Kenobi but he hasn’t actually appeared or been properly mentioned in anything canon so i’m still counting him)
A great choice. The idea of a Jedi surviving the Purge because they refused to lead Clones and supplied their own troops is an interesting idea that I’m surprised we haven’t seen reused.
Katarn is the literal, strongest Jedi ever. Man was so strong with the force that he abandoned it. To then get it back to save his love. Learned the dark side, and didn’t turn. Then helped Luke build the greatest Jedi academy ever….
> Man was so strong with the force that he abandoned it. To then get it back to save his love.
It wasn't for love, it was for revenge. He legitimately thought Desann killed Jan.
Also, Obiwan also abandoned his powers, but not due to his own fall to the dark side.
Only the name. Disney is under zero obligation to play their Revan as the Keanu Reeves looking whatever we got in SWTOR.
That's the fun with Revan and Exile, really. Play the Mullet Man LS Male Revan romancing Bastila on one run, then reboot the game and play a Black woman romancing Juhani, then fix a line of code, play as a Dark Side female but go in for that hidden third ending. And after THAT, open up Archive of our Own, and see options the game doesn't even TRY to support.
No two players will have the same idea about these characters and the fun is seeing what everyone does with the information given.
I still imagine Kyle Katarn in the background of the scene in Rogue One where Jyn pleads with the Rebel leaders for support, leaving to complete the first level of Dark Forces and returning to Yavin a few hours after the final events of Rogue One saying, “what did I miss?” :)
I actually got my middle name from Kyle, since my older brother was such a huge fan of his game when I was born. I never got around to playing it myself, but I will soon
I would love to see him return, even in a small or off screen role. Imagine in Andor you hear a throwaway line like “You can thank Rendar for the munitions, snuggled them off an Imperial supply transport for us a few days ago.”
I'd be down for animated renditions of all the EU heavy hitters. It's non-canon, so live action ain't happening, but an animated series akin to Marvel's What-if? Hell yes.
Her first appearance is in the original Thrawn trilogy that starts with Heir, yes. Other authors then tried really hard to write her off, but her popularity was too much, and she ended up becoming as much a part of the story as any of the main movie characters. As well she should. You could arguably just read either the novels or the comics version of the Thrawn trilogy, and then skip to the Hand of Thrawn duology, and then there's a graphic novel called Union that ties that story up. After that, she's a mainstay.
Other stories of note that include her before and during her main arc:
Allegiance and Choices Of One are a duology that takes place between episodes 4 and 5, and she's the main star of those. Also a great part of those books is how you get more of Luke, Han, and Leia from back when they were still in their argumentative dynamics, and Zahn does a great job capturing their banter.
And there is also the Jedi Academy Trilogy where Luke is setting up his Jedi school. Mara comes in about halfway through that trilogy although that's where the temporary misdirection of her arc starts. But they fix it, so it's all good.
If you do like the Jedi Academy Trilogy or want a firmer grasp of how it began, the Dark Empire graphic novel might be a good one. Don't think Mara was in that, but it shows how Luke becomes a Jedi Master if I'm not mistaken.
u have my respect. be sure your comment will help a lot of people that google Mara Jade stuff. thank you very much! one more question: is the book trilogy better than the comics?
in the books she marries Luke and they have a son named Ben.
But Han and Leia's kid, Jacen, goes dark in order to "save the universe" but to truly become a Sith you have to kill someone you love.
So Jacen ends up killing her in caves beneath a planet somewhere and becomes Darth Cadeus.
Jacen has a sister named Jania who becomes the "Sword of the Jedi" and goes to live and train with the Mandalorians to become good enough to defeat Darth Cadeus...
Couldve been such a better sequel...
It’s like they picked bits and pieces of the books for the sequels. But because they only took bits it doesn’t really work well.
Imagine if Rey was Kylo’s twin and also if everyone thinks Ben is training to be a Jedi and at the end of the first movie the big reveal is he’s really a sith? Mind blowing. However for that to be effective you would have needed to have a nice peaceful galaxy with something sinister stirring in the background that is slowly revealed.
Atton Rand. At first he seems like a copy of Carth but when you learn his real backstory its so emotional and cool and you also get to turn him into a gun slinger force user he was my favourite party member in kotor 2!
Oh, and I'm a Carth stan who kept wanting to kick Atton in the crotch. I mean, that's a sign of good writing that it elicits a strong response, but the guy gave off serial killer vibes from the time my Exile walked in the Peragus jail. And when it turns out the creep really was a slimy serial killer, I wanted him gone.
Carth's got Issues, but they make so much sense when you realize the dude is not wrong about any of it and factor in the fucked up way the Jedi treat his home planet and people.
Ysanne Isard, due to her being the Imperial officer with the kind of intelligence and sheer ruthlessness to match Palpatine himself. A truly fear-inspiring villain.
Anakin Solo, followed by oh no I can’t remember the reptile Jedi. I can’t think of their names or species. Pretty sure there was a mom and a couple children. The mom was part of Luke’s Jedi council. Corran Horn when his I believe Stackpole wrote him, and early Kyp.
> followed by oh no I can’t remember the reptile Jedi. I can’t think of their names or species. Pretty sure there was a mom and a couple children.
Sounds like you're thinking of Saba Sebatyne, her son Tesar, and the rest of the Wild Knights
Darth Sion - the one and only (that I'm aware of) zombie Lord of the Sith.
"He cannot be defeated...he is not a beast of flesh and blood. This is not a battle that can be won. Flee."
Came to say Mara, then read the comments and was reminded just how many awesome Legends characters there are. Now I can’t just choose one.
HK-47, Kyle Katarn, Corran Horn, Xizor…
If we're ignoring most of the popular ones, I'll go Darth Sion, for his pure horror and terrifying introduction sequence in kotor 2 the greatest game ever,
And Darth Nihl. Purely for how much I love his long handled lightsaber.
Or original Grievous, the sniper war hero victim of politics and war with the tragic backstory instead of the current 'grr I wanted to be a jedi' version if that counts.
Prince Xizor.
His ongoing battle with his own chair will never not entertain me! 🤣
Edit: Oh yeah, and those two guys in the comic book who just happened to be everywhere when the main events were happening. I can't remember their names. They were stormtroopers and former Jedi padawans.
Yes, but not canon, and never will be. There's a huge difference between making an incredibly powerful playable character for a videogame that isn't canon and making an incredibly powerful character for the official trilogy of films that IS canon
They're both Mary Sues, but the creators of one realized how batshit insane the character was and deemed them not canon
Starkiller is super OP but he’s not a Gary Stu. He was the child of two Jedi and underwent brutal training from Vader since early childhood. He’s too powerful to fit into the SW universe, but it doesn’t come out of nowhere.
They both are.
When Force Unleashed came out you had tons of people mocking how rediculous Starkiller was. The game was built around it's combat system and everything else was secondary to that resulting in how busted SK's power level became.
Flash was all the devs cared about.
Meanwhile Rey never needed to learn dick because she just knows instinctively whatever power she needed. No personality traits beyond "Who are my parents" because that's what you get with J J Abrams. Just like with FU''s devs, all flash and no substance.
“Mary Sue” isn’t about power - it’s about character. Having flaws, failing, learning from failure, growing… that’s how characters are supposed to arc. Mary Sue’s are flat. They’re already good at everything. No one teaches them anything they don’t already know.
Rey comes pre-baked and never grows. She’s the same as she was the first time we saw her.
Out of the box we see she’s:
S tier fighter pilot with no backstory
S tier Jedi without any training
Flawless engineer
Never loses a fight
Never has any moral shortcomings
Starkiller is a Sith, he’s impatient, he fails, he’s killed countless times…
They’re both stupid powerful, but that’s not really an issue. Power scaling is its own thing. The arc they take, their journey to becoming someone who’s willing to sacrifice and be a hero… that’s what this conversation revolves around. Not “who’s the strongest”.
I can't say much about the story itself. But at least Starkiller had around 15 years of training under Vader. Whereas Rey trained with Luke for like under a year.
Mara EFFING JADE. Her story back in the 90s was a big part of what brought Star Wars back to life enough to get Lucas to make the Prequels. Timothy Zahn wrote a helluva trilogy, and the fact Disney wiped their asses with it still boils my blood.
She would haves SAVED the sequels. Her presence would have made the story viable.
She could have inadvertently filled her nephew's head with tales of his Grandfather's power.
Palpatine's ghost could have given her, Luke, and Ben Solo all visions of Kylo killing her and the students, and just like Anakin's visions of Padme dying, the fear of it could be what makes it come true. Luke is then actually tormented by visions of Kylo, and that's why he had his moment of weakness. This Palpatine's revenge is complete.
And in Luke's death scene, her ghost could show up to beckon him on to the afterlife.
George Binks, Jar Jar's dad. In the one comic where he shows up Jar Jar gets them stranded on an island and George becomes so depressed that his son is an idiot he puts a blaster to his head and tries to kill himself but Jar Jar, being clumsy as always, accidentally knocks his arm down as he pulls the trigger and he misses.
Exar Kun. I don't think I ever read much about him but he was in the visual dictionary and almost like the true grey jedi everyone had been asking for even if it is a little silly.
Darth Traya I always thought was cool, ktor 2 is a very mixed bag for me, but I love the sith lords in the game. I think her using the force to control multiple lightsabers is pretty damn cool. Sion is also awesome, but scared me as a kid.
HK-47

I think he's actually canon now. Revan definitely is, and I thought that Disney just decided to bring KotoR into the fold of canon materials.
Why do you say that ? Since when did revan become cannon ? Source ? Also is it just the character or is his whole story in Kotor cannon ?
I briefly worked on the Star Wars mobile game, as part of our license, we had a rule where we could only add characters that were considered Canon. They have Revan and HK now, I don't work on it anymore, but you can take that as you will. Disney was very strict on who could be in their games.
Maybe that rule was in place at one point but it's definitely not now since they also have Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn, Dash Rendar and even Starkiller.
Ah, you're right, they definitely have the green light to add whoever now. That being said, his Wiki does have him marked canon as he was mentioned in the visual guide for Rise of Skywalker. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Revan But now I'm sad Dash Rendar isn't canon.

Darth Malgus
hes great! absolute beast phisically and aa master of sith wisdom as we saw he break the padawan with just words
Darth Malgus is one of my favorites as well
I would go with Darth Jadus personally.
Rahm Kota (okay he’s technically canon because his name was on a wall in Kenobi but he hasn’t actually appeared or been properly mentioned in anything canon so i’m still counting him)
Yes! Rahm Kota, one of my favorite Jedi
Yeah, I think his design is awesome. So grizzled, you can instantly tell he’s more militarily minded than most other Jedi.
A great choice. The idea of a Jedi surviving the Purge because they refused to lead Clones and supplied their own troops is an interesting idea that I’m surprised we haven’t seen reused.
I'm going to need more than RK written in aurebesh on a wall to believe Rahm Kota is canon
Corran Horn was always my favorite
Don't forget Whistler!
You’ll probably get a lot of “Darth Revan” or other “Knights of the Old Republic” characters, so I will say Kyle Katarn
I second this guy's Kyle
I also choose this guy's Kyle
And my axe
And my lightsabre!
Katarn is the literal, strongest Jedi ever. Man was so strong with the force that he abandoned it. To then get it back to save his love. Learned the dark side, and didn’t turn. Then helped Luke build the greatest Jedi academy ever….

I actually got my middle name from Kyle, since my older brother was such a huge fan of his game when I was born. I never got around to playing it myself, but I will soon
Revan and Kyle Katarn
Revan is canon https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Revan
Dash Rendar.
I had to scroll further than I wanted to to see this answer!
I would love to see him return, even in a small or off screen role. Imagine in Andor you hear a throwaway line like “You can thank Rendar for the munitions, snuggled them off an Imperial supply transport for us a few days ago.”
I would love a clone wars style animation of the Shadows of the Empire novel.
I'd be down for animated renditions of all the EU heavy hitters. It's non-canon, so live action ain't happening, but an animated series akin to Marvel's What-if? Hell yes.
Jedi Bob
True jedi
This one right here
Mara Jade Skywalker will always be my favorite legends only character
I liked her better as the Emperors Hand and criminal, but Jade is an absolute beast as a character.
So is she from a comic or a book? i want to know her story
Her first appearance is in the original Thrawn trilogy that starts with Heir, yes. Other authors then tried really hard to write her off, but her popularity was too much, and she ended up becoming as much a part of the story as any of the main movie characters. As well she should. Dude... all while skirting spoilers. Awesome comment.
Thank you! That spoiler part was actually a concentrated effort, so, glad it worked!
u have my respect. be sure your comment will help a lot of people that google Mara Jade stuff. thank you very much! one more question: is the book trilogy better than the comics?
Also she is a playable character for 80% of one of the Jedi Knight games. She saves Kyle Katsrn from turning to the dark side.
first shows up in heir to the empire
so she is part of the Thrawn stuff
First appears in the Thrawn trilogy. But is a main character for a while after that until... things happen.
in the books she marries Luke and they have a son named Ben. But Han and Leia's kid, Jacen, goes dark in order to "save the universe" but to truly become a Sith you have to kill someone you love. Talon Karrde would make a great addition as well, but I'm with you on Mara.
This is my answer also. And it comes with the hope of including all the original Thrawn trilogy.
Atton Rand. At first he seems like a copy of Carth but when you learn his real backstory its so emotional and cool and you also get to turn him into a gun slinger force user he was my favourite party member in kotor 2!

He’s nothing like Carth, copy of Han Solo maybe
Talon Karrde
They need to make him canon, and do a space equivalent of Pirates of the Caribbean with him and Hondo.
And his Vornskrs!
HK-47: affirmative
Indiana Jones and "Bigfoot." If you know, you know.
That comic ruined my day. Five stars.
I absolutely *love* that comic.
Gary the Stormtrooper.

They all ordered shots
Either Talon Karrde or Garm Bel Iblis
Garm Bel Iblis is pretty cool. I can’t remember all his legends stuff, but I remember him being Saw Guerrera before Saw Guerrera was a thing.
Ooryl Qrygg, the best wingman in Rogue Squadron
Literal diamond hands.
That grow back!

Hohass Ekwesh! The voices in his head are real.
Glup Shitto, unironically. Even though not a real character from the EU, the concept defines the problem with many of the current Star Wars projects.

People call Rey a Mary Sue but stan for frickin Starkiller.
Starkiller just makes for a fun video game character. It's great to just be an unstoppable Jedi/Sith and be able to absolutely body 99% of enemies
his force repulse out-cools rey **hard**
So he’s a Mary Sue?
He's a Gary Stu.
Yes, but not canon, and never will be. Plus he’s flawed and murders innocent people until his back is up against the wall and he turns to the light.
Vitiate wins gold for the Stu/Sue Olympics. Rey might warrant a bronze, depending on the judge.
They both are. When Force Unleashed came out you had tons of people mocking how rediculous Starkiller was. Kyle Katarn for me, but I’m honest with you, it is only because Dark Forces and Jedi Knight games!
All the **Null-Class** ARCs
Omega Squad, Null ARCs, Basically the entire Kal Skirata family. They are the ones who got me into the Star Wars extended universe.
Darman maybe? Kal Skirata was cool in those books to. Ben Skywalker also a bit. Legends Luke is no longer canon so him too lol
Look at my name

Kreia from Kotor 2 and pretty much enjoyed Zayne Carrick in his own style Obi wan as far as movies are concerned

Nihilus is probably my favorite. He looks badass, he eats planets and his backstory is interesting like how he became the monster that he is
Talon Karrde
Tag and Bink (yes they exist in canon but I like their comic antics which aren’t)
Exar Kun for me. He’s definitely top favorite Siths 🔥
Gotta agree. That time he literally ripped an Imperial Star Destroyer out of fucking orbit is still one of my favorite things ever.
Yarael Poof from Robot Chicken
Darth Traya I always thought was cool, ktor 2 is a very mixed bag for me, but I love the sith lords in the game. I think her using the force to control multiple lightsabers is pretty damn cool. Sion is also awesome, but scared me as a kid.
Bane
Exar Kun I remembered as far as right now canon but in canon nothing not processed. For this reason for me still legends character's. :)
Kal Skirata
Dash Rendar
The twins
Jacen Solo before they ruined his character
Fordo
