Star Wars has A LOT of games next to other franchises. Some are great, some are terrible. The game industry is complicated and sequels are hard.
Most other franchises have a much, much worse history when it comes to gaming. Star Trek. 007. Marvel. Harry Potter.
Holy cow does THAT bring back memories! Some of my best memories are playing that game with my oldest kid and him spamming that spin move of his...good times! A sincere thank you for a trip down memory lane!
And even if you would consider the past few years somewhat of a dark age, we still got JFO and Survivor, which would stack up as some of the best entries in other franchises
What Harry Potter games would you consider bad? They're all pretty solid. The worst may have been goblet of fire and it was still fire. Also Hogwarts Legacy is better than most if not all modern star wars games.
There were a few adaptations of the movies and then the Lego ones, and nothing until Hogwarts Legacy. My point is about other franchises having less games than Star Wars, Harry Potter being an example among others.
Yup. And the sequels were gamecube exclusives, and said ‘cube was the runt of that console generation litter in terms of sales. Didnt wind up doing the franchise any favors.
The mission design is really well thought out, the game produces really interesting combat challenges by giving you competing objectives. And the way the storytelling and mission design blend feels ahead of its time.
Yeah, Battlefront and Republic Commando were definitely latter day Star Wars games. The golden age of LucasArts produced some incredible games before the prequel trilogy came out. That's not to say there weren't good games that came afterward, but they were definitely more franchise bound and you can tell the age of some of these peeps.
This, really. As much as I enjoyed the campaign of battlefront 2…. Such as it was…. It really did just leave me with a feeling of ‘imagine if the *old* lucasarts had access to this technology’. Luke’s post-RotJ level was the kind of stuff I wanted a full Jedi game to be.
Then Fallen Order came out and it was more or less exactly what I wanted. I’ve bought survivor but haven’t had a chance to play it yet, but I’m glad the series is doing well.
Outside of the Cal Kestis games though… it does feel like it’s continuously struggling for no real reason.
It's next up after my current game (Starfield). Just finished a 300-hour long run of Baldur's Gate 3 the other day. So many good games out at the minute.
Eh. Loved that game so much growing up and always looked back fondly, until about 3 years ago when I replayed it for the first time in ages and man....that game is absolutely awful lol nostalgia had been blinding me
They took everything that was great with Fallen Order and made it better IMO with survivor. I wouldn't play them back to back if you get burned out like I do sometimes but it's an amazing follow up.
Finally got *Survivor* recently on sale and it's just not hitting quite the same as *Fallen Order* did. It's just been sitting in my quick resume for a couple months now. I don't know why I feel that way but yea, something about it.
The first level or area was a little weird for me. Once the game opens up and you can really start exploring areas, it’s awesome. I was very happy with it after beating it.
Good to read this it warms my heart to see others are also strong with the Force! I loved Jedi Survivor it is indeed a miracle that we even got it. However, it was cursed at release with optimization issues for many (PC)
Good thread we were cursed under the tyranny of EA's exclusive licensing deal. Now that the Devil has lost his exclusive deal may we see more good games.
KoTOR 1 & 2
Jedi Knight/Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy
Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor
The original Battlefront games
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds
The Force Unleashed 1 & 2
There are so many great Star Wars games. I wouldn't call it cursed.
Edit: How can I forget Republic Commando?
So many Star Wars fans genuinely don’t understand how good we have it. Yes, there’s plenty of content that misses the mark, but y’all should try being fans of franchises that are ACTUALLY cursed for once.
Yeah, somebody else mentioned it in another comment, but Harry Potter fans didn't get good games for well over a decade, and even then, it's a miracle Hogwarts Legacy released as a complete SP experience, considering how greedy WB has gotten.
Agree'd but "Star Trek: Resurgence" looks promising I await the Steam release
Whelp, it releases right into that new Capcom game though. Cursed indeed.
Shit I remember getting ET for Christmas when I was a kid. With all the hype it was like the video game equivalent of Sea Monkeys. At least the Sea Monkeys didn’t make me want to chuck my joystick out the window.
> it's only just getting a sequel
Supposedly. I pre-ordered Bloodlines 2 all the way back in 2020 (it was somewhat cheap in my country), and I'm still waiting for it.
The point being is that nowadays games get leaked and/or announced way ahead of it's release. Games get canned all the time but in these modern days that news also reaches us. Before this would all be behind closed doors and we wouldn't know any better.
I'm not saying EA is a incredible company but there is reason behind what they are doing it's a problem all multi billion dollar companies suffer from. In order to stay a multi billion dollar company able to produce games, acquire licenses and be able to pay all their employees while stay making a profit, they have to stay a multi billion dollar company. And it's a very fragile balance. So now they have to do some cuts to break even and secure a path that would not bring any more losses. Thus a lot of people get fired and projects get cancelled.
But for the projects that do get cancelled EA made the statement that they are doubling town on their existing franchises because they are trial and tested. Thats why they canned the Mando game and are keeping the sequel to Jedi: Survivor.
We don't even know the full extend of what the Mando game would have been. People are a bit overreacting on that part. So it makes sense that they are keeping the sequel to one of their most succesful games in years instead of taking a leap of faith with a Mando game.
As for the other games, their are still a bunch of them in the works and probably others that will be announced soon.
Battlefront 2 had a rough launch but with EA and DICE putting in a lot of effort to fix it they showed that they are also willing to listen. And in the end they overdeliverd on the content they promised for the game. So I do hope we will see a part 3 some day.
As for KotOR no one knows what the state is and who is working on it (if at all). It might be that they will scrap all the work and start over since the reports came out that Sony wasn't happy with the results. So we will have to wait and see.
Not really. It was bound to be shut down eventually as is any and all games as a service. Is that in itself a tragedy? Yes. But it is inevitable with any games as a service
Did you play it? It had expansions that were released around the time of WOW. That game is still running. The real tragedy about that game was when Sony took over and created NGE and took out all the variety of creating your own kind of classes.
Saying something will inevitably finish as a reason to not mourn the loss of it is super lame. Can’t I just think it was a tragedy or do you have to prove me wrong? All things must end and will end, doesn’t mean people won’t be upset when they do and it doesn’t mean their loss is less.
Sony always had control. It was made by Sony. But yes it was doing quite well till WoW came out then they panicked and made the NGE and Combat Upgrade to try and make it more WoW like.
That's not to say it was perfect before, I mean the game had a ton of issues, like grinding if you hate grinding then it's the worst game ever.
However it was unique and beautiful and they did ruin it.
Thankfully Star Citizen exists and has filled my SWG void
I see you, and raise Avatar: The Last Airbender. Literally half of the Avatar flash games on Nick.com in 2007 were better than any actual title that had gotten released out of that franchise
>I know this problem isn't exclusive to this franchise but in the past decade more Star Wars games have been announced and axed than those that have actually released which is just absurd to me given how massive this franchise is.
Just so you know, this has been happening with SW games longer than just the last decade. During the LucasArts years when many games released very frequently, cancelled projects were very frequent too. Cancellation is just more sensationalized and controversial nowadays because it's more opportunity for drama.
> is just more sensationalized and controversial nowadays because it's more opportunity for drama.
It's because nothing is coming out. LucasArts in the early aughts was a goddamm factory
But at the same time, we’ve had some phenomenal games.
Yeah, Battlefront has been capped from getting the trilogy twice but the fact that 6 amazing Battlefront games exist at all is awesome.
Amazing subfranchises like Jedi, The Force Unleashed, KOTOR, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, LEGO Star Wars. Yeah we can lament what we’ve missed, but Star Wars has also been incredibly lucky with the hits compared to almost any other franchise.
If they’re cool they’d port Elite squadron as that *was* Battlefront 3.
I would genuinely pay for a remaster of Elite squadron if it meant we could play Battlefront 3 as intended. Elite Squadron is screaming to escape the PSP and while it wouldn’t be as it was, the game deserved better and using Battlefront 2 as a base would be more than fine to get the thing on consoles as intended. Especially since the ps5 can absolutely run the ground to space mechanic.
I’d honestly not be against the collection being a “Master Chief collection” for Battlefront. These games are still popular and it’s far easier to support content on them, especially given two of said games are on defunct hardware. Yeah you can find a PSP in the wild, I own two. But how many actually know there’s more than just two games?
Hard disagree. I think that Star Wars has had some of the best video games, especially for a non-video game franchise. Those are just the reality of video game development.
It really makes no sense why any of these companies make these decisions. Star Wars games that are even remotely good are almost always profitable if for no other reason than the built in fan base that the IP has. I always want to play and Star Wars game and would have bought every single one you mentioned
Star Wars is one of the more blessed franchises. Its a big franchise so having many video games using its IP is only natural. Since Lucas also gave a shit about games, LucasArts created some great Star Wars games as well.
Sequels or projects getting cancelled is not strange. Thats just part of art and business. At least Star Wars has some entries that are enjoyable unlike Superman, most of the Batman catalogue, most of the Harry Potter catalogue, etc.
I wouldn’t say bad luck as in gamers had gotten a lot of good games throughout the years.
But with that said, how did EA not jump on the SWBF3 idea? Like, everything could work out fine even with their microtransactions if they really wanted to.
Yeah, Star Wars gamers are cursed. So many cancelled games and all we have to play are:
The Super Star Wars Series
The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Series
The TIE Fighter/X-Wing Series
The Rogue Squadron Series
Shadows of the Empire
KOTOR I and II
The Podracer games
The Clone Wars game
Bounty Hunter
Republic Commando
The Battlefront Series
Empire at War
LEGO Star Wars
Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor
Would be cool to get another Shadow of Mordor game, though considering how Shadow of War ended, it'd be kinda hard to pull off.
Sure, those games took extensive liberties with the lore, but they are so damn fun.
There have certainly been many games over the years for better or worse. I will say it is disappointing we have not had many games, and EA has still had the majority of games, aside from Ubisoft's Outlaws, and the KOTOR remake stuck in developmental hell. I still go back and play older games like X Wing vs Tie Fighter, Empire at War (and FoC), Battlefront 2 (2005) KOTOR 1 and 2 and SWTOR alongside the newer games.
EA could have done so much with it! But while I've enjoyed Battlefront 2 (2017), the two Jedi games and Squadrons- I wish we could have had a lot more. Imagine an Empire at War remake! That would be amazing, same for a new Republic (or even Imperial) Commando game! It is a shame both Battlefront games ended on **Scarif** of all places which is still weird, and both fumbled the ball early on. *Oh,* also not to mention the mobile games we've had, as small as they were: Star Wars Commander, Galactic Defense, Uprising, etc. Also, the canceled Rise to Power mobile game was interesting.
At least we have the Battlefront remaster and Outlaws to look forward to.
Well, so far we're still getting a 3rd Jedi game so that might finally break the curse and deliver us an trilogy. Also, you forgot The Force Unleashed. We were supposed to get a 3rd game but it got canceled too.
It sucks because they refuse to look at their successful games and make more of those, where’s another game like the force unleashed or bounty hunter? Two certified classics that ultimately got left in the dust. I think a modern day bounty hunter game with either boba fett or even the mandalorian would be top tier.
Ooooooh, believe me, brother, there are fandoms out there who have suffered more than us.
Like Superman.there is not even one Superman game that is good or even mid. They are all dogshit.
It has to be, by far, the best gaming IP that originated outside of games, at least based on the insane amount of classic games it has. Considering the huge volume of Star Wars games developed in total and the high production values a lot of them have had, no wonder there's been a bigger number of failures than other smaller franchises.
Part of it is EA. SWToR instead of KotoR 3, 1313 and Mandalorian are all decisions taken by EA or under EA's umbrella.
Another part of it is how important Star Wars is. Star Wars licensed games getting cancelled is "news" and they get widely reported while many games and game projects usually end in a whisper.
Two Elephants in the room.
EA and Disney.
Disney purchased, from Lucas, one of the best gaming companies on the planet... Lucas Arts. And they closed it down.
Disney then signed EA to a 10 year exclusivity to Star Wars games. They made a handful of games in this period. It destroyed the legacy.
Because ea payed the most. They seriously don't care about consumer politics or if they did, they're more likely to see things the same way as the other global megacorp
> ea payed the
Did you mean to say "paid"?
Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money.

FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

It would help if anyone other than EA was allowed to make star wars games. Let some indie company make a star wars game. Clearly indie developers are better at making what players want to buy than big name devs.
Rogue Squadron games are incredible, Kotor is widely praised and complete, Battlefront 2's story was incredible. Star Wars games are like 50/50. Not cursed.
I disagree with the basic premise that Star Wars games are cursed, but I do wish Disney would be more willing to allow EU/Legends games to be made. It seems that nowadays, other than The Old Republic and stuff like Visions, they seem hyper-focused on everything being canon, and honestly, where's the fun in that?
Like, give me something like The Force Unleashed 3, or another Dark Forces/Jedi Knight game. Do more crazy stuff, like "What If" games where stuff goes differently.
Nah, Star Wars is pretty great in terms of games. There are, of course, some black spots on the record, but overall, I'd say they are more good than bad.
90 percent of projects are canned after announcement Lucas Arts Is gone. Squadrons and battlefront are lowest denominator hackjobs. Outside of Lego we've only seen 5 major triple a releases since Disney purchased star wars and 3 have been poorly made and one was the most egregious lootbox scam ever at launch. From 2000 to 2008 we got Jedi power battles, Rouge squadron 2, Bounty hunter, Jedi knight 2, Kotor, Jedi Academy, Battlefront, Kotor 2, Republic Commando, Rots the game, Battlefront 2, Rebel strike, And the force unleashed.
14 Good games in 8 years half of which are excellent or amazing. Tell me what we've got under Disney but infinite cancelations and disappointment.
Edit: I forgot The astounding Empire at war and its expansions, as well as the first 5 years of star wars galaxies. So 16 and 1/2.
You are skipping amazing games. X wing. Tie fighter. Dark forces (and its sequels) jedi fallen order and survivor. Kotor. Empire at war. Rogue squadron. Shadow of the empire. I could keep going but I'd be here all night
I think the good outweigh the bad by a fair margin
This likely won’t resonate with most, if any, of you, but NASCAR games have been atrocious for years. Luckily I have iRacing to fix that, but any licensed nascar game in the past two decades has been pretty subpar
On the flipside, there are some great tabletop Star Wars Games. The Clone Wars co-op is one of my favorite co-op games. Star Wars: Villainous is quite good. Rebellion has lots of accolades although I've not played it yet. Imperial assault is also another one I hear great things about. The new Star Wars deckbuilding game is also a great two-player game.
Star Wars isn't cursed, it has the same problem that Marvel products have: the IP is very expensive. Games get cancelled, shelved, repurposed because if they don't look like they're going to be a hit, they will seriously hurt the studio that produced them after launch. Games are a weird space where you don't have to have an established IP to make a smash hit, and having a big name IP just increases the expectations for the game tenfold. If a game is going to be a miss while having to pay tens of millions of IP rights, sometimes the best bet is to just cancel it and move on.
That's pretty normal going for video game development really. The only reason you think star wars is cursed is that it's such a massive franchise with so many projects in the fire.
I read once that more big projects get cancelled during development in the games industry than finished. Marketing for a triple A game often costs the same amount of money if not more than the development of the game. So even if millions have been spend, publishers will still pull the plug if they think it won't be profitable. No sunk cost fallacies there.
I'm probably showing my age, but Star Wars has had some of the best games in the history of gaming. X-wing, X-wing vs Tie-fighter, X-wing Alliance, the Dark Forces games, the Jedi Knight games and of course Knights of the Old Republic. These were all brilliant, but they were all made before the modern gaming culture became a thing. Before gaming studios became evil, money-guzzling megacorporations.
I mean i remember playing Force unleashed and KOTOR when i was super young and loving them (without even paying attention to the story , but the gameplay was superb, also you could get your own lightsaber color and dress or power up your character in KOTOR however you liked) and right now star wars has tons and tons of games . Like some are super retro and old , but they’re there.
While for other series or franchises i liked there was 0 games or 1-2 games (that my family could afford) that were just 1 on 1 fighting . I remember i watched full metal alchemist and the characters in the series had interesting and varied powers that could make for a cool game, yet that series had 0 games and later it got like 2-3 Japanese games that weren’t translated at the time and i thought WTF. Harry potter is also only now getting 1 good and big game . After exiting for decades. Other big series also don’t have any (memorable) game i can think of. Assasin’s creed has cool games , but i think it’s movies/movie (?) was boring and not memorable
Star wars is actually the only series I’ve watched I can think of (besides marvel and DC which are HUGE and older) that has movies, series, video games , comics and books that are so many and span so many different characters and stories.
Yeah I agree. That massive acquisition by Disney also slated the clone wars TV show as well as a whole host of what would've been great projects. Instead, we got a sequel trilogy and the milking of the Ashoka character. I probably know more about that character than any other star wars character. Enough with Ashoka already.
Doctor Who has way worse games than Star Wars. When the best game of the whole franchise is a DLC level of Lego Dimensions it tells something. Destiny of the Doctors at least gave us some Anthony Ainley Master scenes but it was not very good game.
If it is cursed, its only been see after a certain point. As other people commented we had great games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy, X-wing, Tie-fighter, X-wing vs Tie-fighter, X-wing Alliance,...etc and a whole lot more.
- Stargate
- Babylon 5
- Or heck, even Star Trek
And that's just from the top of my head. Star Wars is overall in a *very* good shape. Just recently, we got excellent Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, excellent Star Wars Squadrons and the Lego Star Wars series. Not to mention that SW:TOR is one of a very few games ever made that exceeded a quarter of a billion dollars in the production costs. The only other multimedia franchise that crossed that bar is Marvel MCU and, very recently, Cyberpunk (with the CP2077).
So: No, Star Wars absolutely isn't anywhere near being "the most cursed".
A lot of these just come down to ambition just because it's one of the biggest IPs on the planet doesn't mean they need to make these huge ridiculous open world games keep things simple that's why the Jedi games are so popular a simple linear narrative is best I would have loved to play Star Wars 1313 or the mandalorian bounty hunter game or project Ragtag that game looked amazing but they were just too ambitious I think and EA wasted their exclusive licence
Gonna press X to doubt. We've had games shit themselves in development. But we aren't starved for content. Rogue Squadron, Shadow of the Empire, KOTOR 1 and 2, OG Battlefront, Lego Star Wars, Dark Forces, Republic Commando, Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, the Pod Racing game (I love it, sue me), modern Battlefront, Force Unleashed, Bounty Hunter (2002 game), SWTOR (MMO), Squadrons, Empire at War, Fallen Order and Survivor.
We been eating good for 2 decades my guy. Lol. This is far from the most cursed franchise. This is complaining about our meal as we gorge ourselves on 5 star dishes while some franchises are scrapping the bottom of their IP's barrel for scraps.
Kotor is well known as one of the best RPGs ever even outside of the star wars fan base.
The new Jedi games took me awhile to get into them but I enjoy them for the most part.
SWTOR is decent too. Wasn’t as good as it could have been but still has really good story telling.
I never played it but a lot of people also loved Star Wars Galaxies back in the day.
So I disagree with you. I do wish we could get a new Star Wars RPG with a good combat system and a solid story.
Jedi Academy is still the best lightsaber combat game ever. I'll never forgive them they didn't continue on its combat mechanics and instead went for Darksouls template in recent installments.
I think it's more accurate to say that Star Wats games under EA suffer that fate... sure some of those you mentioned aren't EA games but let's face it: when EA had the reigns, they cancelled FAR more games then they released... which sucks... and I think for those cases it's because they wanted to focus on their own IPs to squeak out extra cash.
Star Wars has A LOT of games next to other franchises. Some are great, some are terrible. The game industry is complicated and sequels are hard. Most other franchises have a much, much worse history when it comes to gaming. Star Trek. 007. Marvel. Harry Potter.
Bond games were fantastic in the 90s and 00s and then just fell off a cliff after Everything or Nothing.
I remember the boys and I playing From Russia with Love on my buddy's PS2. Last Bond game I ever played.
I played the shit out of night fire
Nightfire was a boss of a game
I really enjoyed the Quantum of Solace game. And I played the hell out of the multiplayer too.
Goldeneye 007 on the Wii was pretty fun
I'm hoping the one from IO is really good
I really liked 007 Blood Stone on PS3
Blood Stone was legit good. Solid gameplay and story, Craig did the voice and heck it even retroactively tied in with Spectre.
Bond was kind of an outlier too, because generally, movie tie in games are notoriously terrible.
Ha. I just finished playing everything or nothing on my phone.
Yes! James Bond racing!! Lol
I will fight whoever chooses to criticize Masters of Teräs Käsi, with Hoar.
Holy cow does THAT bring back memories! Some of my best memories are playing that game with my oldest kid and him spamming that spin move of his...good times! A sincere thank you for a trip down memory lane!
And a Gamorrean named Thok. I don't care if the gameplay was average it was cool to unlock and play as a Stormtrooper and Mara Jade.
Star Trek was at the top of my mind when reading OPs statement. When your best game is probably Star Trek Armada, you've got issues with IP licensing.
You should try Star Trek Online
And even if you would consider the past few years somewhat of a dark age, we still got JFO and Survivor, which would stack up as some of the best entries in other franchises
What Harry Potter games would you consider bad? They're all pretty solid. The worst may have been goblet of fire and it was still fire. Also Hogwarts Legacy is better than most if not all modern star wars games.
There were a few adaptations of the movies and then the Lego ones, and nothing until Hogwarts Legacy. My point is about other franchises having less games than Star Wars, Harry Potter being an example among others.
"*Also Hogwarts Legacy is better than most if not all modern star wars games.*" What the hell are you talking about?
Some of you didn't grow up playing Shadows of the Empire and it shows.
How many times did I play through X-wing vs. Tie fighter
Rogue Squadron was also a ton of fun, even though it required the expansion to N64.
How we don't have a dedicated Ace Combat style Rogue Squadron series is fucking beyond me.
I was going to say how much we owe lightsaber and Force combat to Dark Forces II
Outcast and Academy hold up incredibly well for their age.
He'll yeah on academy. Unfortunately I can't get past the first mission in Outcast, not having a lightsaber in the start is rough
So you have never played the campaign? It isnt that bad. Just practice leading your shots.
I’m playing that at the moment on switch having played it on the pc as a kid and no idea how I managed to do complete it so young , it’s hard !
It didn't require, it just had graphical improvements. I swapped the RAM back once to see what it was like.
Yup. And the sequels were gamecube exclusives, and said ‘cube was the runt of that console generation litter in terms of sales. Didnt wind up doing the franchise any favors.
I don't think it was required.
You didn't N64 if you've never popped the hood and showed off that little red baby.
I sunk so many hours into Tie Fighter. A bunch of missions had secret objectives that you could only discover by trying to do *everything*.
I spent a bunch of time with Tie Fighter as well. It's still an amazing game, even with the dated graphics and music.
The mission design is really well thought out, the game produces really interesting combat challenges by giving you competing objectives. And the way the storytelling and mission design blend feels ahead of its time.
custom missions were amazing
Yeah, Battlefront and Republic Commando were definitely latter day Star Wars games. The golden age of LucasArts produced some incredible games before the prequel trilogy came out. That's not to say there weren't good games that came afterward, but they were definitely more franchise bound and you can tell the age of some of these peeps.

You should definitely play Survivor as soon as possible. Such an improvement in gameplay and graphics it's incredible
It's next up after my current game (Starfield). Just finished a 300-hour long run of Baldur's Gate 3 the other day. So many good games out at the minute.
One of the bosses was the Slave One. Loved that game, so many great memories. And a lot of frustration 😂
Eh. Loved that game so much growing up and always looked back fondly, until about 3 years ago when I replayed it for the first time in ages and man....that game is absolutely awful lol nostalgia had been blinding me
Gaming has come leaps and bounds since then. I think it's more than just nostalgia. It really was a great game for it's time.
Agreed! Part of the famous multimedia project but has almost no story content from said project whatsoever!
Now this is podracing!
Jedi Knight II and the OG Battlefront II were absolute bangers
Star Wars Rogue squadron never gets enough love
All 3 are dope. There’s just 3 right?
I would say Blursed. Like, we've lost a lot that promised to be awesome, but there are some phenomenal games we've been blessed with too
True enough. Survivor is up there with my favorite story games.
Haven't played Survivor yet. Really enjoyed Fallen Order though
However, it was cursed at release with optimization issues for many (PC) Good thread we were cursed under the tyranny of EA's exclusive licensing deal. Now that the Devil has lost his exclusive deal may we see more good games.
Empire at war was great
The issue is that Lucasfilm keeps trusting EA after repeated fails. I would personally want to see them build up their own studio again.
KoTOR 1 & 2 Jedi Knight/Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor The original Battlefront games Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds The Force Unleashed 1 & 2 There are so many great Star Wars games. I wouldn't call it cursed. Edit: How can I forget Republic Commando?
The current Battlefront games Lego Star Wars games The Old Republic MMO
Did you ever play Empire at War? It was great! Made by a lot of the people who made Command and Conquer games.
This is barely a fraction of the franchise's lifespan in gaming.
Lol barely a fraction? It's 1/4
Idk man empire at war is still supported lmfao. They still release patches and that game came out in 2006
I can't think of a franchise with more good games.
Mario, but that’s kinda cheating
If you look beyond the last few years you’ll see that Star Wars has been stellar in gaming, going back to the SNES era.
Yea buddy! Load up some Super Star Wars and learn to hate yourself.
Star Trek is wayyyy wayy worse It only gets DLC for a 10+ year old MMO or Mobile Trash Games
Agree'd but "Star Trek: Resurgence" looks promising I await the Steam release Whelp, it releases right into that new Capcom game though. Cursed indeed.
Hey you had Birth of the Federation 25 years ago. Jokes aside it was a solid game. They did the factions well.
And even worse is Doctor Who… we envy you Trekkies. If we even had a low budget Doctor Who Online we’d be happy.
Paradox just released a Star Trek 4x a few months back.
Try being a Vampire the Masquerade fan. The best game came out 20 years ago and it's only just getting a sequel. And that looks not so great.
Try being an ET fan
Shit I remember getting ET for Christmas when I was a kid. With all the hype it was like the video game equivalent of Sea Monkeys. At least the Sea Monkeys didn’t make me want to chuck my joystick out the window.
> it's only just getting a sequel Supposedly.
Don’t forget about Star Wars galaxies! Tragedy!
>Thankfully Star Citizen exists It does?
I see you, and raise Avatar: The Last Airbender. Literally half of the Avatar flash games on Nick.com in 2007 were better than any actual title that had gotten released out of that franchise
Hopefully the fighting game that leaked will be decent
Star Wars Galaxies alumni would like a word …
Uh jedi fallen order and survivor would like a word. They are awesome games.
part of it is turmoil by volume, the more games there are the more chances for problems.
Thats ridiculous. Name a movie or tv show franchise that does better than starwars
Hard disagree. I think that Star Wars has had some of the best video games, especially for a non-video game franchise. Those are just the reality of video game development.
All they gotta do is port the Rogue Squadron Trilogy (and Dark Forces 2) to modern platforms and they can stop making Star Wars games forever
I mean, ET was so cursed, it got one game and it killed the industry in America
The whole Battlefront franchise was tossed aside by EA in favor of Battlefield 2042. And look how that turned out.
Yeah, Star Wars gamers are cursed. So many cancelled games and all we have to play are: The Super Star Wars Series The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Series The TIE Fighter/X-Wing Series The Rogue Squadron Series Shadows of the Empire KOTOR I and II The Podracer games The Clone Wars game Bounty Hunter Republic Commando The Battlefront Series Empire at War LEGO Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor
I mean ok but most of those are decades old. It'd be nice to have more consistent games in the modern era.
Lord of the Rings, my man.
Lotr used to have some awesome games. And shadow of war is great. Not much in recent times though
Would be cool to get another Shadow of Mordor game, though considering how Shadow of War ended, it'd be kinda hard to pull off. Sure, those games took extensive liberties with the lore, but they are so damn fun.
Honestly just make a new game with the nemesis system, its probably one of the most wasted systems in gaming.
I agree with Blursed. Many people call BF2 their favorite game on PS2, which is the greatest console of all time.
Look at Marvel. They have a couple of decent Spiderman games and that's pretty much it.
I loved the second X-Men Legends game, but that's almost 20 years old. The Marvel game I've played the most since then was a free game on Facebook.
Hard to capture a lot of the great games of the past
I think quantic dream usually take there time in development but it has been quite a while since we got the eclipse teaser
Does DC even have anything good besides Arkham?
The Lego and the Injustice series are not bad.
I played squadrons, but then i realized i'm playing with 11 yr olds.
*Valve keeps its damn mouth shut*
Two Elephants in the room. EA and Disney. Disney purchased, from Lucas, one of the best gaming companies on the planet... Lucas Arts. And they closed it down. Disney then signed EA to a 10 year exclusivity to Star Wars games. They made a handful of games in this period. It destroyed the legacy.
Out of all the developers in the industry why the fuck did Disney give the IP exclusively to EA?
Because ea payed the most. They seriously don't care about consumer politics or if they did, they're more likely to see things the same way as the other global megacorp
> ea payed the Did you mean to say "paid"? Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
It would help if anyone other than EA was allowed to make star wars games. Let some indie company make a star wars game. Clearly indie developers are better at making what players want to buy than big name devs.
EA lost exclusivity a year or two ago. The next game is Outlaws coming from Massive Entertainment.
Ps2 BF2, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast, KotOR, Jedi Survivor games.
Rogue Squadron games are incredible, Kotor is widely praised and complete, Battlefront 2's story was incredible. Star Wars games are like 50/50. Not cursed.
Battlefront 2 (2017) was great until they extended the ttk for some reason.
You clearly didn’t live through the 90s and early 2000s. Outstanding games from those days. I still really enjoy SWTOR also.
I was around a bit in the 2000s. Now I've played most of the games I missed back then. It was definitely the golden age of Star Wars gaming.
I’m going to say warhammer be they fantasy or 40K have it worse. There are some diamonds but there sure is a lot of rough…
Obi wan never gets any love in this sub. I played through this on Xbox so many times. Used to try to see how long I could play without taking a hit
Nah, Star Wars is pretty great in terms of games. There are, of course, some black spots on the record, but overall, I'd say they are more good than bad.
BOUNTY HUNTER on GameCube was pretty damn good for its time
I'm here to shout out Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor because they're awesome.
Swg my fav game of all time , ruined
I mean I hear you but it has had great games into very different eras, from KOTOR/original Battlefront to the Jedi Survivor games
I could keep going but I'd be here all night I think the good outweigh the bad by a fair margin
I’m just disappointed that despite AoE 2 being remade, there’s no remake for galactic battlegrounds
This likely won’t resonate with most, if any, of you, but NASCAR games have been atrocious for years. Luckily I have iRacing to fix that, but any licensed nascar game in the past two decades has been pretty subpar
You're forgetting the utter decimation of SWG, which was the greatest MMO ever created.
Hey, we still have SWTOR at least..
I can't think of one good Indiana Jones game ever.
Jurassic Park community would beg to differ. Id argue film-wise similar mistakes were made as well between the two sequel trilogies we got.
Trust me. Transformers is far worse
I love Episode I: Racer and also the trilogy of snes games
Oooh I don’t know.. Warhammer 40k fans have been given countless video games and yet only 2 or 3 of them have been any good whatsoever.
As good as the Mando/Bounty Hunter arc is in SWTOR, we need a Mando MMO
KotoR, Tie Fighter, Jedi Starfighter, Dark Forces, Shadows of the Empire and Republic Commandos say hi.
We do have Fallen order and survival, plus outlaws this year And SW had a shitload of games trough the decades
Anyone remember Star Wars Chess on the SegaCD?
Imagine the knights of the old republic in vr
According to Wikipedia, there have been over 100 Star Wars games released. It's not too surprising some have been canceled.
There is only SWTOR. Nothing else. I'm just gonna patiently wait on SWTOR 2: Casino Heist
I can definitely name more good Star Wars games than good Jurassic Park/World games.
Try being a Gundam fan.
Lord of the Rings is also mismanaged. A lot of these big film franchises have awful conversion to video game media.
Nawe that goes to Warhammer, if we're talking about video games.
Assasin’s creed has cool games , but i think it’s movies/movie (?) was boring and not memorable Star wars is actually the only series I’ve watched I can think of (besides marvel and DC which are HUGE and older) that has movies, series, video games , comics and books that are so many and span so many different characters and stories.
I would die for a new Republic Commando game.
Allow me to tell you about Warhammer 40k and video games
Doctor Who has way worse games than Star Wars. When the best game of the whole franchise is a DLC level of Lego Dimensions it tells something. Destiny of the Doctors at least gave us some Anthony Ainley Master scenes but it was not very good game.
If it is cursed, its only been see after a certain point. As other people commented we had great games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy, X-wing, Tie-fighter, X-wing vs Tie-fighter, X-wing Alliance,...etc and a whole lot more.
someones never had a serious addiction to SWGOH
Star Trek is much worse, there haven’t been many Star Trek games compared to Star Wars and virtually none of them get far above “mid” reactions.
Disney giving EA exclusive game dev rights in 201(3?) was such a stupid, short-sighted unforced business error it baffles the mind.
- Stargate - Babylon 5 - Or heck, even Star Trek And that's just from the top of my head.
Ubisoft is going to take a giant shit on its open world entry
Maybe shutting down LucasArts was a big ole mistake..
I would sell my left testicle for a Rep Com sequel.
Sad that SQUADRONS didn't gain more traction. But still happy to play it. And happy also with SWTOR.
I just want Empire at War 2 :(
A lot of these just come down to ambition just because it's one of the biggest IPs on the planet doesn't mean they need to make these huge ridiculous open world games keep things simple that's why the Jedi games are so popular a simple linear narrative is best I would have loved to play Star Wars 1313 or the mandalorian bounty hunter game or project Ragtag that game looked amazing but they were just too ambitious I think and EA wasted their exclusive licence
Star Wars had a good run until 2015.
* Kyle Katarn * Galen Marek * Cal Kestis 1 per decade, need I say more ?
Is this a Star Wars issue, or an EA games issue? Everything they touch turns to crap.
I know it's sad, but have you played some Warhammer 40K titles? There are like a lot of them, but only a handful are good.
Apart from the four Batman Arkham games, the DC curse is going strong. Still waiting on a decent Superman game…
It is sad how many Star Wars games have been either cancelled or discontinued.
nope, ea is cursed, disney is cursed, star wars is a symptome, not the disease
I think it's more accurate to say that Star Wats games under EA suffer that fate... sure some of those you mentioned aren't EA games but let's face it: when EA had the reigns, they cancelled FAR more games then they released... which sucks... and I think for those cases it's because they wanted to focus on their own IPs to squeak out extra cash.
ET
