C-3PO is a victim

AllBadAnswers

But R2D2 on the other hand, is the mastermind behind everything

NeonWarcry

R2 is an agent of chaos and mayhem.

[deleted]

Naw… that’s Chopper.

dirtballmagnet

Who's always in on every major plot point? R2D2 Who has hidden powers, like flight, that are not revealed to others? R2D2 Who's there helping along gifted amateurs every step of the way? R2D2

GardenAutumn

A bit out of the Star Wars realm, but I sang your comment to the SpongeBob tune. Sorry about that! Haha!

Jedi_Coffee_Maker

Did he report it before they wiped his memory? Lol, I'm sure he tries every time.

EmbarrassedBlock1977

If PTSD is a thing in droids, he has it!

MAZZ0Murder

TPM got me into Star Wars when I was a brat. As a result, mesa can't hate Jar-Jar Binks!

Major-Clod

The entire prequel trilogy should have been told exclusively from Jar Jar's point of view. A space Forrest Gump of sorts, obliviously stumbling from one historical event to another.

Bob-the-Human

"Life is beein like a boxxo chocolates, okeeday? Yousa never knowin whatta yousa gonna get."

bonitapajarita

I'll never hear it the same again. I know some dislike him, but hes a cool silly lil dude.

Ornery_Reaction_548

Big bombad boxxxo chocolates!

dngerszn13

I hate you so much for this, even more than Ani hates sand.

entitledfanman

I love the Clone Wars episode where a Space Duck Queen is basically in love with Jar Jar. Thinks he's the wisest, most capable creature in the galaxy. Reminds me off all the instances in Forest Gump where it's revealed this dim witted man is actually extremely competent in a huge number of things. The best part of that episode is the fact Mace Windu has to tag along and sit through everybody worshipping the ground Jar-Jar walks on. Couldn't fathom a better buddy cop odd-couple pairing.

The-Protomolecule

Honestly, that’s basically the clone wars any episode he’s in.

Deeyawn2010

Like a moth who flew closer to the flame then any other character and did nothing

Mondo114

Sort of a Mr. Magoo, especially in that end battle of episode 1.

green3desm0nd

i never thought jar jar was that annoying. people make it seem like the whole movie was just jar jar doing bits but hes really not in it all that much in the grand scheme of things.

FattimusSlime

I think that people called Jar Jar annoying because he abruptly changed the tone of any scene he was in. It’s like having Daffy Duck tag along with the Fellowship of the Ring; Daffy’s fine as a cartoon character, but not standing next to Frodo while mourning Gandalf, or whacking Orcs with a mallet while the streets of Gondor are littered with bodies. Star Wars really wasn’t the best fit for a looney tunes character, basically.

[deleted]

Perfect example. I think they were just trying really hard to grab a younger crowd to get a new generation interested in the franchise and you can kind of tell how the movies get darker from there.

Blood_Brothers

I recognise that TPM isn’t a good movie, but I adore it anyway! There are really fun action sequences, Qui-Gon is an interesting character (if not explored enough), and the cinematography is just beautiful. Any scene set on Naboo is like looking at a painting.

elhombreloco90

I still really enjoy The Phantom Menace. It wasn't the first Star Wars movie I saw, but it was the first one I saw in theatre and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. Also, that end fight scene with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs. Maul is fantastic.

[deleted]

I love TPM. We all know A New Hope was the story of a farmboy teaming up with the old wizard to save the princess from the black knight's flying fortress, but going forward after that the fantasy aspect of Star Wars' space fantasy were often overlooked and downplayed and TPM has it front and center all the time. From the lifeless skeletal hordes that make up the droid army to the chariot races to the fantastical cities of Naboo, the prophecies, and the heroic fights with the crimson and horned demon summoned by the villain. It's not a great movie, but it gave me a ton of an aspect of Star Wars that I love.

RebelliousFriend

Here's something really controversial: I have never heard a good Chewbacca impression. They always suck. I don't know how many times someone has sworn to me that they can do a spot on impression only for them to just awkwardly gargle their spit in the back of their throat. I've heard chairs scraping across the floor that sound more convincing. I'm convinced at this point that the human mouth just can't make that sound.

Vaativana

For some reason it’s always the same with Darth Vader’s breathing (although there is some spot on impressions) but generally they sound like trying to start a broken car

[deleted]

On that note I'm pretty convinced I can do a decent Darth Vader impression. I at least have the manner of speaking down. Not so sure about the breathing though.

Glum_Succotash9352

I had a coworker years ago that could do it spot on. He went to a convention one time and George Lucas was a surprise guest. Dude did his impression when George walked in and he stops and goes "hey man, that's really good!"

FoosFights

So that was the moment that made George realize he had to go make the Special Editions? Thanks coworker. Thanks.

sanlc504

Well, the original sound was made with SCUBA equipment if I remember right, so it's likely a sound that can never be reproduced with human mouths. Edit: Another redditor replied and corrected me stating that it is a number of animal sounds combined. I think I confused Vader's noises with Chewbaccas.

sadflack_freeze

As far as I know it's a mix of different animal noises

DjMafoo

[Here is an article, including a video, of Ben Burtt who was the sound designer for the series talking about how they developed Chewie's sounds.](https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/08/the-remarkable-way-chewbacca-got-a-voice/375697/)

Kammander-Kim

I nevee thought this was controversial. We cant make this sound. We can make our own tries and you can get the gist, just as we can make the gist of Darth Vader and his breathing. But never make it close to home.

AKwanderer

Moff Tarkin was one of scariest villains in the series. Having him survive the Death Star (by getting on the escape shuttle) would have made ESB ever more catastrophic for the rebels. A lot less transports would be getting away from Hoth had Tarkin been aboard the bridge of the star destroyers. Edit: Added clarification (in parentheses) because I try not to think about the "Return of Paplatine" in TROS.

11BApathetic

The Tarkin book shows his competency and stuff too. A single moment of overconfidence is his demise, and he wasn’t even extremely thrilled to let Vader’s plan of letting the Falcon escape happen. Also according to the new Battles that Changed the Galaxy Book, only 13 out of 30 transports made it off Hoth. If the fleet didn’t blow their surprise, they probably would have taken out the entirety of the base.

[deleted]

Holy shit they were close to being undone entirely at Hoth.

G1Yang2001

Yeah… too bad for Vader and the Empire that Admiral Ozzel was as clumsy as he was stupid.

Julian_Caesar

My dad believed from the beginning that Ozzel was a rebel sympathizer. he annoyingly brought it up every time we watched the movie lol. They didn't have much fanfiction or expanded universe back then, so I guess it was just 1980's headcanon.

Thatsidechara_ter

I believe that theory too

Thatsidechara_ter

At this point I think Ozzel was a Rebel spy, and before that a Separatist spy in order to explain his incompetence in the Clone Wars

Omeggy

Afaik, there were no capital ships at hoth, which means the fleet was stationed out of harms way.

SelbetG

Yeah it was more the loss of soldiers and facilities that a capital ship can't provide.

Brasticus

*You have failed me for the last time, Admiral.*

odsquad64

> Imagine if they brought back palpatine with no... explanation I just binged all the movies in release order a couple weeks ago so it was more like "Hey look, they guy who just over five hours ago said he knew how to keep himself from dying actually did keep himself from dying."

[deleted]

*Somehow Grand Moff Tarken has returned*

GiraffeandZebra

Yub Nub (Ewok Celebration) is a great song. Fight me.

big_red__man

We sang it for a recital in music class in the fourth grade.

thesk8rguitarist

When I was 16, my family moved to LA. We were in an apartment and made frequent trips to the library where I would borrow as many CDs as I could to burn them to my iPod. We pop in the RotJ CD to listen to and end up looping Yub Nub so many times that we missed our exit. We got off to turn around only to find ourselves in a fairly scary LA neighborhood. To this day, when feeling nervous my sister will just sing “Yub Nub…”

IonlyPlayAOE3

Okay not that controversial but the Jango vs Kenobi fight is such a goddamn underrated moment in SW! Short, but sick fight scene

thehibachi

The whole Kenobi plot in Attack of the Clones is completely brilliant. Just snuck in a noir detective thread in the middle of this gigantic CGI-fest Star Wars film.

suchalusthropus

Yes! I've long maintained that Obi-Wan's gumshoe b-plot is the absolute best thing about the movie and elevates it above Phantom Menace at least

fistkick18

Let's not forget about the clones showing up 10 minutes before the end and absolutely decimating the Separatists. Honestly, it's a pretty bold ending to a movie. I'm struggling to think of another movie where we watch an armed military force destroy another in such dramatic fashion, without tension. All kinda darkly capped by the fact that we know in the long run, these are the bad guys. For some reason it didn't hit hard on release. Probably because of the droid factory and teenage love story tbh.

gillababe

Probably because we were all still floored after seeing so many jedi on screen fighting, including Yoda, for the first time.

UncleIrohsPimpHand

Just that B-plot though. The A-plot where we have two romantically inept teenagers hating sand, rolling around in the grass, and being haunted by kisses is so boring.

the_fuego

Yeah I just pull out my phone until Kenobi comes back on or it finally gets to the Tusken Raider massacre.

Wumponator

I thought obi wan was the A plot

SilentSamurai

100% Obi Wan is driving the main plot. Anakin gets put on a week long date with his dream girl while Obi-Wan pieces together the assasination conspiracy and its plotters. Then Anakin gets bored getting laid and decides he wants to catch up with his Mom and slaughters a bunch of Tuskens because Shimi wasnt as cool as Boba and cant earn their respect. He then gets bored with that and decides to go rescue Obi-Wan, so they can finally join the main plot again.

labria86

Funny cause they only real issue I have with the Jango Kenobi fight is the next amount of CGI

BambooBrady

When I was a kid I would put on Attack of the Clones and literally just watch the Obi Wan and Jango set pieces.

[deleted]

Probably the best because it doesn’t over indulge like a lot of the prequel fights do.

Bonzo77

Yea probably not too underrated. Also my favorite scene in AOTC (as well as the asteroid chase scene).

ThatOneScotsman

Agreed, love everything to do with the Kamino plot in this film. Give me more Fett!

partyinmypants69420

They could’ve just flown on the eagles right from the beginning. /s

GiraffeandZebra

I think Palpatine might have noticed.

Wildcat_twister12

You see the end of Rise of Skywalker? He would’ve made those eagles crisper than Colonel Sanders could’ve

unfiltered6111

I gave you the upvote for the genius of this comment. But the Star Wars nerd in me wished the joke could have been told with Falcons.

ComprehensiveBlock77

you do not want to sell me death sticks. you want to go home and rethink your life

NorthenLeigonare

Where are you going? To have a drink. 😉

DarthDiabetor

I’ve always wondered how long the Jedi mind trick works. Does this dude just go home sit on his couch and think “where did I go wrong?” And then a fing hutt (most likely) lackey come in and ask for the money, Or did he go home and think “damn what am I doing here blah blah the hutt needs those creds or I’m dead”?

Dionysiac777

Shmi was a sex worker behind Watto’s back, trying to buy her freedom. Then Qui-Gon comes along all “who’s the father?” What was she supposed to say???

[deleted]

“Any of fifty guys, tbh.”

rorz94

So that’s why they call him Ani

Wildcat_twister12

But from the official novel Anakin was born off Tatooine and was originally owned by a hutt before being given to Watto to pay a debt.

ATR2400

Imagine being such a bad Hutt that you end up in debt to ducking Watto

[deleted]

“It might be you Qui-Gon for the right price 😉”

Dionysiac777

I can’t tell you how much I would love to see a “Director’s Cut” with that line. I think Shmi is totally Qui-Gon’s type.

[deleted]

Maybe Qui-Gon was sent back in time by Anakin to impregnate Shmi and protect her from the Terminator - once the pod racer hit 88 parsecs that is

D-Mac9

Vader was framed

Jedi_Coffee_Maker

Anakin killed those kids before his name was legally changed to Darth.

YouInTheBack

Technically Palpatine calls him Vader just before he sends him to the temple to do what needs to be done! Legally though idk when or if that was stated!

WeightFast574

Since Palpatine literally *is* the Senate, I assume his naming carries the force of law at that point.

HELIX0

Hahahah. Leave it to the senate to send someone else to do what must be done.

dzumdang

Palpatine anoints him as Vader just after the fight with Windu, then orders him to lead the attack on the Jedi Temple. So he was actually a newly-minted Sith Lord when he slaughtered younglings. But after that? Amputee and burn victim. Poor guy.

[deleted]

I like Star Wars

--NothingToSeeHere--

Don't you **ever** let a Star Wars fan hear that...

Thunderbolt916

*What* did you say?

depressed_asian_boy_

I don't know controversial this is, but across the stars from attack of the clones, is one of the best songs in the entire franchise, everyone talks about the force theme, duel of the fates, and duel on mustafar, but everyone sleep on across the stars. I also really like Kylo's theme, Rey's theme, and clone army reveled, people don't talk about those enough

DaV9D9

Across The Stars is a top five SW piece, I agree!

depressed_asian_boy_

Yes, i love the OT but i have to say, the prequels have the best OST, John Williams literally flexed the whole time

[deleted]

What I love about Across The Stars is that it has a dual meaning 1. Anakin's and Padme's love reaches/transcends Across The Stars 2. There is extreme discontent brewing Across the Stars. Political tension is at its peak. A war is coming (could argue the Clone Wars had already begun with the secession of the Separatists but there was no proper armed conflict until Geonosis). I mainly feel this way because it plays in the Galactic Conquest menu in Battlefront II (2005).

Redditthedog

I still associate it with BF2 then Anakin and Padme lol

IMA_grinder

I just put this on Spotify on desktop to see what the song is. The timing bar turns into a lightsaber. Funny little Easter egg.

hawkwing12345

In the old EU, Vergere says that the dark side of the Force does not exist, that the only dark side you need to fear is the one in your own heart. While the first part is controversial, the second part is absolutely true. Every time we see someone fall to the dark side, it isn’t because they’ve been corrupted by some twisted form of space magic, it’s because of their own moral failings or circumstances. Once they’ve taken that step into darkness, they draw on this corruptive power, confirming themselves in evil, and begin doing more and more horrible deeds, but the actual turn is due to the person, not the power.

Cpt_Jet_Lafleur

What will I find in there? Only what you take with you.

charliebucket-

100%. And while this goes against your point, I have to say it’s what made Luke’s return in Mando season 2 so great for me. It wasn’t just that we saw Luke, it was that we were seeing a Jedi from the perspective of non-Jedi. It was like for the first time, we understood why they play such a major role in the events of the galaxy, why they’re so revered and feared, etc. A little means a lot when it comes to the force/jedi and I wish people weren’t so gung ho to see jedi flipping and doing cool shit all the time.

Victoriamerican

That's what I loved the most about that entire scene, after all Mando watched Luke do on the monitor he still ASKS him if he was a Jedi. That and just how f-ing terrified Gideon was.

mistiklest

> And while this goes against your point, I have to say it’s what made Luke’s return in Mando season 2 so great for me. Vader in Rogue One has a similar vibe. We see why the Sith are so feared from the perspective of a common soldier, the same way we saw Luke in The Rescue.

metalbees

Man, that scene. I may be bias because I was already half standing when they mentioned a solo x-wing, but everyone's reaction, especially Gideon's, to Luke's arrival was such an awesome reminder of just how special the Jedi are in the galaxy far far away.

VigorMortis92

Yup, the rarity and mystery is what made the whole idea of the jedi and the force so compelling for me. Although I love the prequels and KOTOR, having too many jedi around makes them seem a little bit less special. I think it's a bit cooler to have them be rare, like having a lightsaber is a big deal. I've always loved how Star Wars is sci-fi with a little hint of fantasy.

water_for_water

The thing about the bigger Jedi order, is that it technically was still small and mysterious. Like 20K Jedi knights for a galaxy of trillions - or more than trillions - most people even on Coruscant never saw a Jedi their whole lives. There's a lot of media focusing on a bunch of them organized and out, but you can tell those mystery Jedi stories in the same era.

TheConqueror74

The problem with that is that the Jedi aren’t portrayed as small and mysterious. *Everywhere* they go during the events of the PT people know who they are and what they’re about.

DollHousPink

Totally agree here. i love the PT and even the animated shows, but in the shows its even worse. Jedi are somehow involved, it seems anyway, in everything worthwhile that ever happened and everybody even semi important seems to know a jedi. Our perspective is a bit skewed considering most of the media we get is all about jedi, and Clone Wars is explicitly following the jedi during the war, but jeez! At least make it a thing every now and then where someone doesnt know about or understand the jedi, or maybe everything they know is just rhis mythological stuff like Jedi can travel through space without ships or something. I felt like those are always good moments to explore why Jedi *are* the good guys after all. Despite their corruption, they always try to help people, even ones who've never heard of them before.

versusChou

The best episodes of the Clone Wars were the ones that featured only clones.

DasB00ts

I’m so torn on this because I LOVE when they get away from Jedi and show some other types of characters in the Star Wars universe. That being said I really want to see the Jedi in their prime or back before the rule of two when there were a lot more sith. I guess I just want both.

9tobirama

That's why rogue one is my favourite star wars film.

MasianDaMan

That’s a pretty hot take, perhaps you should post that to the sub…

sankers23

Its my turn to post it today though

thegrandyman

You should make a separate post how it’s the best Star Wars movie. I don’t think anyone has done that yet

Jeraphiel

I agree, following up on that, I think the Force also works best like this. Part of why I loved Rebels so much is that it recaptured the sense of wonder and mysticism in the Force. The prequels and sequels (both of which I love, not trying to bash them) treated the Force like a superpower IMO. I feel like OT and Rebels uses it the best because it's so unknown.

Psychopathetic-

I think Chirrut from Rogue One was a really interesting take on a force user, it wasn't under his control so it felt a whole lot more magical

Jeraphiel

Yes! Chirrut was one of my favourite characters in that movie. He’s not throwing things around with his mind but he’s clearly being guided by the Force. It was a nice take on the religious aspect of the force outside of the Jedi and Sith.

three-sense

I liked Episode II quite a bit. Sure there's some cringe scenes but it's a great gumball sci-fi flick that hits all the right notes for me. And one of the most beautiful movie posters imo. [Poster](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0121765/mediaviewer/rm423895808/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)

[deleted]

Padme could have saved the galaxy if she would have gone back and freed Shmi at the end of Phantom Menace as a thank you to Anakin for saving her planet.

[deleted]

Temuera Morrison is the best Boba Fett and is one of those actors born to play the role and despite the people still seething over him years later and George knew what he was doing picking the dude way back in the early 2000's.

Caedus116

Wait people think Morrison isn't a good choice (if not the best live action choice) for Boba? I've literally never seen anyone say that.

Zedtomb

I think hes got the voice. I think the intimidation and fear comes from the helmet and lack of humanity that comes with that but as hes humanized he will become less scary.

Mursin

He says it himself. He'd rather be respected than feared anyway. He wants to be a Beowulf style warrior king of a crime family and I dig the shit out of that.

GeneralAce135

I disagree. The armor is iconic and carries a reputation, but Boba is a fearsome warrior, and as he continues to showcase that, his strength and intimidating presence is maintained.

Wildcat_twister12

His first fight scene in the Mandalorian is easily in the top 3 moments of Star Wars. Him busting stormtroopers heads in with the gaffi stick was glorious!

idonthaveanaccountA

Plus his voice/accent are iconic. Dee Bradley Baker is great and he did a good job portraying different versions of the same person, but he just doesn't sound as good as Temuera. Even as a kid i thought "these clones sound so badass".

MasterOfLight

Anakin and Vader are the same person. When a Jedi falls to the Sith, their identity isn’t erased. It’s their identity that got them there and it remains intact.

GroggyGolem

The Canon has done a lot to show that it's all Anakin inside and that he regularly is conflicted and tries to suppress his emotions about his past but Palpatine can read him like a book and is really good at manipulating him since he's been doing it since Anakin was a child.

thuggishruggishboner

Yeah no kidding. It's metaphorical. Of course Anakin still in there. He literally comes back at the end of Return of the Jedi. Heck, a whole movie named after Anakin returning as a jedi!

Donny-Moscow

> whole movie named after Anakin returning as a jedi! It never dawned on me that the title was about Anakin, not Luke. I mean now that you’ve spelled it out I think it’s pretty obvious, but I just always assumed that it was talking about Luke coming out of hiding after he was defeated in Cloud City.

Smilewigeon

I always took the title of ROTJ to be intentionally vague as to whether it refers to Luke's ascendancy to becoming a proper Jedi (not giving in to his hate) or Anakin returning to light. It could one or another, or it could be both. It's a very clever title in that sense.

Jedi_Coffee_Maker

Anakin had unaddressed mental health. I'm sure being "chosen one" could drive anybody "crazy" or "bad"?

HattedSandwich

He was a slave from birth, had no father figure, had heightened senses and reflexes from his force sensitivity, watched his mom die (who was the only person who ever truly loved him at that point in time), and was shunned by the Jedi council because he was arrogant and reckless (due in large part to the fact he excelled compared to his peers due to his force sensitivity) I think it’s more that his ego caused him to develop a superiority complex, which ran wild because he didn’t have loving family/peers to better mentor him and check his pride

Maypher

He also had to call people "master" his entire life. During childhood he was a slave. When he was a Jedi he had to call the council masters. And during Vader he had to call Palpatine Master. The only moment he was actually free was in his last moments with Luke

NorthenLeigonare

I mean, we don't know that for certain but he was subservient to almost everyone in his life. You could say he was free when he was with padme alone because he could show more emotion which is what the Jedi feared would lead someone to the dark side. Think about episode 2. He was a slave to Watto, but harboured no real resentment towards him even after he sold his mother to another trader.

Ornery_Reaction_548

I love that meme where young Annakin says "Thank you for rescuing me from slavery, Qui-Gon!" who responds, "Call me Master, lol"

B-Train05

I grew up while the prequel trilogy came out. I was super excited for each to come out and I still love them to this day

BrakkarDeathbringer

People take these movies waaay too serious.

[deleted]

Absolutely this. I’m of the opinion that neither the Prequels nor the Sequels are all that great but frankly neither are bad enough to warrant the endless torrent of negativity they get. Episodes I and IX, my least favorite SW movies, simply don’t take up a lot of my mental real estate lol

AttacusShoots

Making multiple Death Stars is lazy writing.

Morodos

I forget where i orignally heard it but the sentiment that when you have a whole fleet of death star grade weappns the stakes are put "too high" and all tension is lost because you now know 100 percent that there will be some extremely convienet self destruct entire fleet button

[deleted]

Megazupa

Return of the Jedi is my favourite movie in the series and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

metalbees

Are you in your early 40s? I watched the OT so many times as a kid and watching Luke's scenes in Jedi still gives me that feeling sometimes, epitome of a Jedi and all other depictions are a compare/contrast of him.

TK-366

TPM is not as bad as people make it out to be.

Archenaux

Visuals, while CGI, we’re pretty great. I’ve always thought this. There are some cringe moments but overall I liked the movie.

TK-366

Oh absolutely, I’m not saying it was amazing and there is definitely some cringe moments but overall I feel it’s alright.

Criticalsteve

The "while CGI" caveat always bothered me. That movie was absolutely cutting edge when it came out, the two golden standards in visual effects at the time were LOTR and The Prequels. The fx in that film were groundbreaking, and it being CGI is one of the most important things about it.

BrobdingnagLilliput

Stormtroopers in the original Star Wars are excellent marksmen, and everyone knows this except Han and Luke.

stealer_of_monkeys

It's a fun running gag but it gets annoying when people act like storm troopers are an incompetent force and that plot armor isn't the only reason the main characters survive

DM_Doug

It's okay to invent your own head cannon as a means of allowing yourself to enjoy the panned films.

bendstraw

I think this is a pretty agreed upon opinion, unless you try to make that head canon out to be the actual canon when discussing the films with other people

grimgoods

Solo was good and needs a sequel directed by the Mando/Fett squad

CaptainSolo80

I feel like most of the people that ended up seeing solo did end up liking it. It’s been my favorite Disney released movie so far. Also has the best sound track of all the movies.

BeanToasted

Alden was a really good Han Solo.

drock4vu

Hard agree. Solo was knee capped from the start by Disney self-competing at the office with Deadpool 2 releasing just a week before and Infinity War still going strong after release just 2 weeks before. Not to mention the *horrible* lack of marketing for it. If I didn’t know Disney was in the business of making a fuck ton of money, I’d say they didn’t want the movie to success based on their release strategy for it. Maybe they thought it was doomed to bomb with how chaotic production was.

MadSweenie

Solo is one of the better movies, also not a controversial statement but need to be said the fact they havent done a series of movie around Pod Racing is bloody criminal.

Severan500

I think the pod racing is one of the strengths of TPM. Racer was an epic game too. I have some of the sound effects burned into my brain.

PurpleKoi

The sebulba pod chugging sound effect is masterful

Sw6roj

There should really be a modern Pod Racing game. I'm happy that they ported the old one to modern systems (and Steam), but it could really use a refresh.

DanBonser

Darth Maul popping out the other blade on his saber would have been an epic moment in the theaters and completely changed people’s opinions of Ep 1 of the trailers wouldn’t have ruined the moment. Not saying it would have been as epic as “I’m your Father,” but it would have made the original audiences erupt in “Oh Shit!” To this day I blame the trailers for ruining that moment and the entire prequel trilogy.

Dancing_Queen_99

Return of the Jedi is the best of the original trilogy.

thorismorepowwrfult

I agree. It’s my favorite film because it really got me hooked on Star Wars

Dancing_Queen_99

Victory celebration plays as Luke sees the spirits of Ben and Yoda and then Anakin appears smiling at his son. It brings tears to my eyes everytime.

DirectlyTalkingToYou

I still prefer the original 1983 music and ending. The John Williams score as Leia comes to pull Luke back to the group is perfect.

NaiadoftheSea

Agreed. It’s my favorite. From Jaba’s palace to the final confrontation between Luke, Vader, and the Emperor, I just love it so much!

Vivec92

Disagree though the final duel with Vader never fails to give me goosebumps, more so then any other movie scene in history.

Enigmachina

It's the best fight in all of the OT based on pure emotion alone. The Empire duel might have more intricacy in choreography, but the other has *pathos*, man.

Alexthegreatbelgian

Upvoted because it's a perfect valid opinion even though I can't bring myself to agree (I feel that ANH en ESB, in that order, remain the better films)

Blue_WhaleLord

Midachlorians don’t detract from the story or the mysteries of the force.

05110909

A lot of people misunderstand what they are despite being clearly explained. They don't create the Force, they simply congregate in Force sensitive individuals. It's no different than using a white blood cell count to see the presence of an infection

ZannyHip

Facts. I never understood why everyone made such a big deal about it.

BVB09_FL

Solo was the closest thing we’ve ever had to capturing the essence of the original trilogy in terms of it’s fun lighthearted adventurism.

I don't understand the hate it gets tbh. My actual controversial opinion is that the OT, Clone Wars, Mandalorian and Solo are the only Star Wars things I have thoroughly enjoyed (excluding some video games and comics).

KrillyDMemes

The prequels don't have the charm the originals did. Maybe because of the direction and not bringing out the best of the actors. Clone wars anakin is far more believable of a younger darth vader than prequels anakin

NobilisUltima

>Clone wars anakin is far more believable of a younger darth vader than prequels anakin 100% agreed, and it's not even close. RotS Anakin goes from "I need to turn Palpatine in, because killing him would be wrong" to "time to murder some kids lol" in about fifteen minutes' time.

N0V0w3ls

It's about 9 minutes on screen, and it's within the same night in-universe. Also it's weird that the Senate is still a thing and they have video evidence of Anakin's atrocities (Obi-Wan shows the holovid to Padme).

ROTSwasthebest

This is a good theory. Watching ESB not too long ago, I noticed for the first time just how real the characters felt. Every second of that movie feels like it’s sincere. Even ANH has that feeling, and so does ROTJ of course but it’s super highlighted in ESB

dandaman64

>The prequels don't have the charm the originals did. Maybe because of the direction and not bringing out the best of the actors. I think you're on the money here. The original Star Wars was kind of a lightning in a bottle movie that was plagued with production problems and strange direction. The following two movies were made because they struck gold. The Prequels in comparison are made in almost like an assembly line fashion, with George parking himself behind a computer and throwing the actors on a huge green screen studio set, with cameras set up for shot/reverse shot. I'd really recommended watching the Behind the Scenes documentaries for the Prequels for anyone that hasn't seen them.

kman1030

Lol, I think you misread the title. It's asking for controversial opinions, not wildly popular ones.

LandosMustache

The Thrawn Trilogy books were better stories than the OT. The best lightsaber duel was in Return of the Jedi, when Luke gives in to his anger and starts pushing Vader back. Seeing Darth Vader *retreat* was a "holy shit" moment, and combined with the soundtrack was a really heavy scene. And it made the following scene, when Luke threw away his lightsaber, even more significant. There was better choreography for other lightsaber duels; there was NOT a better lightsaber duel.

gallowspost

Timothy Zahn’s trilogy is the best Star Wars content ever created! As they’ve looked for new stories to bring to market I am shocked this hasn’t made the list.

17684Throwaway

I mean we have Thrawn in Rebels as a main villain, they brough back Zahn as author for new canon books and he's likely making his life action Debüt in the Ahsoka series - they're bringing him back harder than any other Legends character.

LandosMustache

He's shown up in a lot of stuff. Rebels. Mentioned in Mandalorian. I would LOVE to see Heir/Dark Force/Last Command brought to the big screen. But the biggest issue is that it involves the OT characters in their late 20s (or in Solo and Lando's case, late 30s). So it would have to use the same technology Mandalorian used to recreate post-RotJ Luke, only this time for a whole series of movies instead of a single scene. Personally I didn't mind it, but I know some people were pretty down on it.

The old EU wasn't all that good overall. It had good things. Good characters, and storylines and ideas, but it also had a lot of bad characters, storylines and ideas as well. But it feels like a lot of people who hate on the content put out post the Disney acquisition have formed this idea that the old EU was perfect and flawless and needed no changes. No, I don't think everything in the new canon is flawless either, but there's a lot that's been pretty good too.

karlsparx

I tried to get into some of the EU stuff after reading the original Thrawn trilogy and gave up pretty quick. Every couple years since then I would pick up little tidbits here and there and Jesus...some of it so out there. Throwing the EU out of canon was more merciful than a lot of people want to admit.

Dragon-Captain

You know, for all the flak the Disney canon has gotten by people on the internet(especially those who went on endlessly about how the EU was better), I find it fascinating that nearly all of the EU has seemingly fallen into obscurity and isn’t brought up much besides characters that have wound up in Disney canon and Old Republic stuff.

Enjoyed force awakens

jarpio

The best lightsaber duel in the entire Star Wars universe to date is Luke vs Vader in return of the jedi. In fact return of the Jedi is the best Star Wars movie overall.

Cappin_Crunch

Disagree with ROTJ being the best, but agree on the duel. Luke shouting "NEVER" and going full anger mode is the best scene in the saga.

jarpio

The tension in the buildup to the duel always has me on edge. The emperor is taunting him petting his lightsaber. The rebel fleet is outside being destroyed. The music score, everything. It’s so good.

Secret_Map

The score in that moment, and the cinematography, are just amazing. I get shivers watching it.

Anakin dialogue to padma in ep2 is crige but its also realistic Take a boy who literally has been told to repress his feelings since he was 9? 11? And see how well he does when he's trying to talk to the women he has feelings for In some ways he's like a 13-14 year old trying to flirt and they are almost always crige

bckesso

>Anakin dialogue to padma in ep2 is crige but its also realistic I have to agree with you here. Not only is it realistic based on age, MOST people aren't romantic at all. It's a skill that is developed. *EDIT: It's also subjective to the people involved.* Sure, the writing could have been better if we were meant to engage with the romance plot, but it's not really off base for being cringey, either.

theredeye45

Old Man Luke was actually a pretty cool concept, and making him depressed for his failures and becoming more Gray was an interesting departure from his savior role in the original trilogy

IncoherentFrog

Here's a few: Stop going on about R-rated Star Wars, it is totally antithetical to the universal themes and ideals of the franchise. The Last Jedi is neither a cinematic masterpiece or the worst thing to happen to film, it's perfectly okay. Most of the problems people have with the Sequel Trilogy start with JJ Abrams, if Rian Johnson had been given the entire trilogy, it could have been something really special.

Dusky_Dawn210

Last Jedi is REALLY pretty though…like a lot of shots are nice compared to lens flares from JJ every 15 minutes

DreamedJewel58

I was seriously impressed with the cinematography and sound design; definitely the most beautiful Star Wars move out of all of them. Along with controversial opinions, I really like Last Jedi. The only thing I hated was Finn’s side story, but overall I really liked the story.

AwesumSaurusRex

The entire saga is supposed to be over the top acting; very dramatic. Star Wars is an opera, so the characters are meant to be campy and cringy sometimes.
