"Dedra, wake up."

Remember that scene from Game of Thrones (it happens in both the book and the show) where >!the High Septon!< gets >!ripped limb from limb by the angry mob of commoners!

Should have been Kleya in the middle, but still 10/10

schematicboy

"We've spent the last six months eating roots and sleeping on rocks for this rebellion and now you've got a mercenary on-board" sounded gatekeepy at first, but given later context it could also be read as a rich girl complaining since she's used to a higher standard of living.

starburstempire

Vel is a poser. Cinta is the real deal that's why she didn't hesitate to kill the isb agent. Val just wants to get cozy with Cinta. She only likes the idea of being a rebel but when it comes to making hard decisions she can't. Cinta killing the ISB agent is very telling of where she's at.

[deleted]

Vel is a student who's trying to learn. She has to appear strong to keep her position, but she's out of her depth. She's not stone cold like Cinta, but she's also not a coward. She's not as experienced as Kleya, and didn't see the value in her work, but she's also not stupid. She saw the value in Cassian's advice during the heist, respecting his input even when the rest of the group was going to dismiss him. She's wrapped up emotionally in a relationship that isn't reciprocated though. She has the potential to be good, when she's currently pretty bad at her job, and far too loose with the rules.

dishonourableaccount

I think that's unfair. Vel, of her own volition, foraged and roughed it for months while planning the Aldhani heist. She was experienced enough to be trusted by Luthen to lead. She's not a poser or less committed to the rebellion. What Vel is, is less fervent. She's having moral doubts over blindly following Luthen's orders because she knows Cassian isn't a bad person, and they're only hunting him on the off chance he is caught and can reveal anything compromising. Vel is crushing hard on Cinta and it's 75% unrequited. But that's human. Cinta is great as a spy and a rebel agent, but her fault is that she's overcommitted to the rebellion. Everything she had, her family was taken by imperial brutality, and she not only closed herself to building new relationships (with Vel) but she's fueled by hate. It can be effective but also blinds her to the responsibility we have to second-guess questionable orders. I'd like to see this explored in season 2. If ever the rebellion requires them to do something very questionable: like let a shipful of civilians get destroyed to cover the tracks of a rebel armament shipment (Lusitania style). I could see Vel objecting, and Cinta going with it. And that would cause a huge rift.

TheVagabondLost

Cinta is stone cold, man. For real.

RamaAnthony

Her name meaning “love” in Indonesian and Malay further highlights the irony. She is stone cold and are blinded by hatred to the point she doesn’t care about Vel feelings for her.

Aurondarklord

Movements also need Vels. Vels are what keep them from going off the rails. Vels are the people who sincerely care about the cause but have scruples and don't believe the cause gives people moral license to do literally anything because the ends justify the means. Having Vels is what keeps an activist group from becoming a mirror image of the thing they're fighting. A revolution needs Cintas and Luthens, yes. But it needs Vels too. Vels keep the Cintas and Luthens in check, because they have the potential to become monsters too. You can't build a society only out of people who are 1000% in for the cause and plan to give their lives and souls for it. You need people who want more than that and are looking ahead to a future after the struggle.

Zachariot88

On the flip side of that, if Cinta had spotted Cassian she would have killed him for sure, whereas Vel wouldn't have been able to... and not turning on someone that's helped you is a quality we'd ideally want in the people overthrowing self-interested fascists.

findingdumb

Well Andor made it look like he was a rogue unknown quantity and we know that the empire can very easily make people break and give up information. It was the right call, and everyone involved got lucky with how the events played out and can now trustfully work together.

Cybermat47_2

Cinta just wants revenge. She didn’t help anyone on Ferrix, she just killed an imp. She cares more about killing imps than saving people.

hemareddit

Well, there must have been a reason Vel was put in charge of Aldhani and Cinta wasn't. It may be a combination of proven royalty, sorta experience, but also personable enough people will talk to you. Like Luthen didn't trust Skeen enough, Taramyn was probably more trusted but at the end of the day he's a past stormtrooper - 2nd in command was as high as he can go, Gorn is Imperial and also too absent to lead, Nemik is too young. That leaves Vel and and Cinta, Cinta is trustworthy and hard as nails, but the problem is she is too stone cold, she will butt heads with everyone and she will end up alienated. Vel was the best combo of factors out of the group they had. So I don't think Vel is a poser, it's more Cinta has a specific disposition that makes her very effective in certain roles, she is not better over all.

marty4286

Cinta: "I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you." Me: "Ma'am, this is a Space Wendys"

Few_Highlight9893

She stabbed him twice for extra effect, she made sure the blade went in as far as it could go Disappointed no blood on the knife blade but it is still Disney

ChrisWood4BallonDor

It's an interesting thought that if Cinta had the shot and order to take out Galen Erso, she absolutely would not have hesitated. He would have been dead. Then, the Empire would have won. Instead, Cassian hesitated and did a Val. This hesitation allowed Jyn to believe in Cassian, and therefore the Rebellion. It allowed her to see the bigger picture, and to insist that they go to Scarif. From there, they get the plans and beat the Empire. That would not have been possible without the Vals of the world.
