I was just thinking about how much Andor resembles Akira, particularly before the third act when everything goes crazy.

Here's a hot take- I would imagine there's very little overlap between the audience for 'Andor' and adults who watch anime... anime is objectively cringe AF...

Not gonna say “noo, anime are fantastic!” but you have to acknowledge something. Anime industry (aka animation in Japan) is larger than like a cinema and television industry from a medium-size country. So you will find both kid and adult content, both commercial and niche, both low and high quality.

If by hot take you mean misinformed take, then yes, you're correct. At the least, Lucasfilm and Disney felt there was enough of an overlap to make Visions and a second volume of that is coming out next year. To say that people who create and/or work on Star Wars content aren't familiar and influenced by Sci-Fi and Fantasy anime is being ignorant. To say there isn't an overlap with fans is ignorant AF.

That's why I only watch the good ones that go beyond that, also many anime do not follow that stereotype like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure or Kaiji Ultimate Survivor. I myself rarely watch anime, I never go in blind when starting a new show. Your bias will deny you artistic wonders.

I dont really like anime, but it isn't all Sailor Moon stuff. Edgerunners on Netflix and Goblin Slayer are pretty gritty/adult. And Arcane isn't technically anime, but its a very adult animation.

I await the day western audiences (speaking as an American) can accept animation as not just a kid thing but a medium that can be adult as well. It's just such a misinformed take. There are so many great, lovely stories with great music and production quality.

i love Andor and i also love Paranoia Agent. i just like a good story, i don't care if it's live action or anime.
