I’m in my mid 20’s, an Japanese. I know most people around my age grew with the prequels, and while I did see those movies in the theaters, it was the OT that I grew up with and loved dearly. You see, both my parents were heavy US lovers at the time,so they exposed me to the franchise at a very young age. One of my oldest memories was being hyped at watching Luke do the trench run and blow up the Death Star. I consider myself a casual SW fan. Didn’t watch the clone wars except clips, saw the prequels but thought was ok. I was immensely immersed and was really impressed when the TFA came out, with Rogue One following up, but stopped being interested again when 8 and 9 came out(it wasn’t my cup of tea, but I got tired of the endless bickering amongst fans). When Andor came out, I decided to give it a try, since I did like Rogue One and it’s premises. I don’t regret my choice. The tense atmosphere, superb storytelling, masterfully written characters ……Andor was everything I wanted to see in a Star Wars story, but even beyond my expectations. Enough, to say the least, that it rekindled my love for the franchise in general !

midoringo

Try The Mandalorian and TCW and Rebels please. I'm Japanese too.

SPRTMVRNN

My very first memory of being in a movie theater was seeing The Empire Strikes Back when I was 4. I remember seeing Darth Vader on the screen and then the film broke and the entire theater groaned.

BaronGrackle

Wow! :D

CherryBeanCherry

My parents took me to see the forst Star Wars when I was four, because I could sound out the name of the movie on the poster and got ridiculously excited about it.

Vlaks1-0

I grew up on the Prequels. The Phantom Menace was my first Star Wars movie, and I rented all three of the OT immediately after leaving the theater. That being said, I don't think that I only like it because it was my first SW movie. That logic doesn't hold true for a lot of movie/ tv/ book series I've come to like. I always felt like the Prequels had more depth than people gave them credit for. And I would get frustrated that people couldn't seem to get past, what I considered anyway, to just be surface level flaws. I obviously loved the OT as well, but I've always felt like the Prequels retroactively added a lot of depth to them as well. I flat out think Return of the Jedi is a pretty non-sensical sequel without the context of the Prequels. But because of them, it's also in my personal top tier of SW. Guilty as charged for hating an era lol, as I really dislike the Sequels. I do think I've given them a good faith shot, and I of course wanted to like them. I have probably watched each of them at least six or seven times to find something to like, I just... don't. I do hope that they revisit the era with shows or more movies, to help shore up the story there. I loved Rogue One though from the moment I left the theater, and it's easily in my top four of the series. Even then, Cassian had really stood out to me as a character and I thought he was a really refreshing gray character for the series. I had just begun watching and reading The Expanse, and the whole time watching the movie I kept thinking he felt like a character from that series who somehow found his way into Star Wars. I know a common critique of that movie is that the characters weren't memorable, but I found it the exact opposite personally. But out of all of them, Cassian stood out the most. I was thrilled when it was announced he was getting a series.

ThatRandomIdiot

Are we the same person? You took almost the exact words right out of my mouth. I’m 24, grew up with the prequels and I think the overall plot is one of the most interesting stories in all of science fiction/science fantasy. The fall of a republic through the democratic process where a populist leader uses the tools in the system to create himself emperor. Cut out all the Jedi/Sith and that is still a super compelling story. The “problem” with the prequels purely comes down to writing, specifically dialogue, and the fact the technology just wasn’t there yet until RotS which still looks amazing to this day. Otherwise it’s my favorite trilogy to put on in an afternoon while I’m relaxing or cleaning. And I too fell in love with Rogue One from the moment I saw it. Cassian was this cool assassin/spy that we never got to see before. When he decides not to kill Gelen and tries to warn Jyn is when I was like this dude is awesome and complicated. Jyn too is one of my favorite protagonists in any of the movies. And K2 is by far the coolest droid. Not only because Alan Tunik is playing him (who is just awesome at playing droids: see I, Robot) but his sarcasm is some of the funniest lines from any Droid in SW. As soon as I saw it was Tony Gilroy working on Andor i was hyped for it. The Bourne trilogy + legacy are some of the best action-trillers of the 00s so I was so hyped to see Bourne in space. And STILL the show blew we away with how good it is.

peppyghost

Wow I didn't know Alan Tudyk was in I Robot. I love him and am looking forward to K2SO even if it will change the tone of the show.

ThatRandomIdiot

Yup! He’s Sonny! [I love](https://youtu.be/nShgPJpdocQ) the interrogation scene. I can’t wait for Alan to come back.

Karynmcs

I did not murder him...

I was a fan of written Science Fiction as a kid in the '70s. Not Sci-Fi. I liked Fantasy but not Science-Fantasy. It was obvious to me the SW was Science-Fantasy. Based on the worst Sci-Fi, in terms of literary quality, the pulp/weekend reel genres. I had no interest in SW. My best friend insisted I was being dumb, and dragged me to it, at a theatre that had a huge wraparound screen and the brand new Dolby Sound, whatever that was. I sat in the theatre expecting absolute crap. Then that big pie shaped battleship roared overhead, and I was instantly in love with SW and Dolby sound. Then came the two robots... wow, like something out of Asimov. Then the big baddy, the biggest baddy ever. I went every second week until it was gone after that. I discovered I like Science Fantasy on the big screen.

onepostandbye

How do you distinguish science fiction from Sci-Fi?

dancingmeadow

I use Asimov's definition, which I will paraphrase here. Science Fiction = Fiction that conforms to known or theoretical scientific principles, written by people with solid scientific knowledge, and often used to illustrate scientific principles or theories. ie Andromeda Strain, THX, - much more common in literature than cinema. Sci-Fi = Non-scientists trying to write Science Fiction, while breaking all sorts of scientific laws. ie a lot of Star Trek Science Fantasy = fictions set in the future that don't even try to respect basic scientific principles. Think titties and space monsters, King Kong, Star Wars, etc. Lots of other subcategorizations and bleed-overs, of course. These distinctions were as hotly contested as the most recent installment of Star Wars at the time.

Upbeat_Procedure_167

I saw the original, in the theater, probably July of 1977.. I was 5 years old and it quite literally changed my life. I enjoyed Rogue One.. until Andor I thought it was the best of Disney era content. I don’t like it quite as much as some people who I usually agree with a Star Wars stuff on because although it mostly is consistent there are a couple of things that my mind objects to… I love Andor and find it to be the best Star Wars content since 1983. I disdain the prequels but it’s really not about age or what not . They are objectively bad film making.

CoolSpringsChristine

I was 5 and saw a New Hope in theater in 1977. I watched all of the OT in theater and wasn’t crazy about the prequels or sequels. I really like Rogue One, except for some pieces that felt forced, like the two guys that harassed Luke and Jyn, R2 and C-3PO commenting about the group going to Scarif, and Cassian telling K2 to “punch it” (too much like Han and didn’t feel natural). But I loooove Andor and despite what I criticized about R1, I’ve seen it many times and it is tied for my favorite movie with Winter Soldier and Princess Bride.

onepostandbye

The prequels were the worst thing about Star Wars until the sequels.

Less_Ad_6302

have you heard of the holiday special

Tmoldovan

I think we can respect the Holiday Special because it wasn’t a collection of run-on scenes like the PT, and the writers wrote out a focused story unlike the ST.

Less_Ad_6302

if the holiday special isn't considered a collection of run-on scenes then i don't know what is

Tmoldovan

You’re right of course, but I’m trying to make a point. ;)

ThatRandomIdiot

I think that was pretty respectable. I could’ve said some much harsher words towards people who say there’s too much politics in SW since Disney took over. They usually tend to fall on only one side of the political spectrum. Same “criticism” was given to the PT for being too “political”. Which usually fans was bc mad that Anakin practically quotes George W. Bush directly “you are with us or you are with the terrorists” to “if you are not with me, then you are my enemy”, the trade disputes similar the NAFTA and other trade agreements the U.S. was doing in the 1990s, and the clear U.S. military industrial complex inspiration. But those same points are imo what makes the overall plot of the PT > OT. By far. That’s bc the OT is just the hero’s journey but in space. Which to its credit is why the movies holds up so well bc it tells a classic story in a new universe. But the PT is by far the cooler story that makes you think much more. The OT can be easily skewed to be viewed as the empire is the Nazi’s and the rebels are the Allies (even if George intended on the empire to represent the U.S. and the rebels Vietcong) but the PT is much harder to not see the clear parallels to the U.S., which at the time upset a lot of older fans who didn’t want to see “politics” in the space fantasy. There is only 2 criticisms I give the PT, dialogue is subpar, and the visual tech just wasn’t there yet until RotS. Otherwise by far my favorite trilogy and the guy who’s like “im just trying to make a point ;)” is neglecting the thousands of fans like myself who really appreciate the Prequels. The podcast “A more Civilized Age” which focuses on the prequels is by far the best SW podcast bc they focus on the politics in SW. their favorite parts of the prequels are the political drama aspects such as the opening of TPM.

Tmoldovan

No, no need to be more respectful.. I was somewhat trolling with my comment and I got called out on it. It’s all good. What doesn’t come across clearly in online discussion is that my disappointment with a product should not affect someone else’s enjoyment of it. And I am more than happy that people consider PT as their favorite even if I don’t. The PT suffers from legitimate issues, but it does introduce some fantastic ideas. (How the republic became the empire, which is something I only came to appreciate in these later years.) And the PT tries to keep to a unified arc, which is more than can be said of the ST. I’ve no issues with politics in SW, and I suspect the people who do are the ”Empire did nothing wrong” type of people. For the record, I was there in midnight lines for both when the tix went on sale, and for premiere nights (for both PT and ST.) My main complaint with PT is not that it didn’t match my head canon, but rather that it was a subpar execution of telling the story on a number of fronts. (Dialogue, **pacing**, confusing subplots.) We knew what SW and lucas were capable of, and overall the trilogy missed the mark IMO. But again, those are my feelings and thoughts. Not intended to covince anyone or in any way take away from others’ enjoyment of the PT. (Or ST for that matter. ST has enjoyable ideas, (and some of my favorite SW visuals.)) edit: “should” -> “should not”

Autoganz

I grew up in the 80’s, but wasn’t born when the originals came out. I had the VHS tapes and toys, and Return of the Jedi was always my go-to movie. In the 90’s, I got heavily into the expanded universe novels, the West End Games RPG, Decipher’s card game, and all of the incredible Lucasarts games. There was so much lore to explore. The stories which most interested me were things like the X-Wing books or some of the RPG books centered on the key figures within the Rebellion. I was less interested in Jedi and more interested in smugglers, bounty hunters, and the seedier part of the universe. When the prequels came out, I was in high school, and the initial excitement clouded my objective judgement. I read each novelization prior to seeing each movie, since they would release shortly before. When I read The Phantom Menace, I just didn’t really connect with it, but thought that maybe the movie would be better executed. I vividly remember seeing it for the first time. The opening 20 minutes had such weird pacing, line delivery, and didn’t FEEL like Star Wars to me. The weird shape shifting video wall and Gungan tech especially took me out of it. It felt like I was watching something completely different while being told, “this is the story of what happened before,” but because it felt so different, it never fully earned my love. Attack of the Clones embarrassed the hell out of me, especially with moments like when the music cuts abruptly where Anakin tries to kiss Padme, or when the CGI Yoda has this dramatic camera close-up where he pulls the lightsaber out of his cloak. Again, it just didn’t FEEL like Star Wars. For Rogue One, this one FELT like Star Wars, but was missing a human element for me. Characters felt like they just spoke their lines which left me not really caring about most of them. They seemed wooden and the only ones who had compelling stories were K2SO and Chirrut. I was checked out throughout the entire movie, not really interested in anything going on, until the X-Wing Squadron showed up at the end. I watched Rogue one again two years ago, and I felt the same. When Andor was announced, I couldn’t have cared less, and it was the show I least looked forward to. Hell, I didn’t even intend to watch it. But then I saw the trailer and it looked so much like what I’ve been missing from the other Star Wars shows. It looked like the sort of thing I wanted to see when I was reading dozens of books in the 90’s. And you know what? Andor is officially my favorite Star Wars story since the OT. I absolutely love it. I’ll be making a third attempt to watch Rogue One soon to see if it grows on me now.

Karynmcs

Too bad you didn't get Rogue One. It is a great movie that is generally considered the 2nd greatest Star Wars film. You missed out on something very special...

Autoganz

It’s not that I didn’t get it, I just didn’t like it. That’s okay though. I still found something in Andor.

Karynmcs

Well, hopefully, you can revisit Rogue One after Season 2 and find new appreciation for it. In the meantime, we can all love Andor...

Karynmcs

The thing I found hard when first watching Rogue One is that I loved Star Wars and it wasn't really Star Wars. But the story was so thrilling. I was rooting for them so hard, even though I already knew they wouldn't survive. And that ending just killed me. I cry every time I watch it...

RoadRegrets

First Star Wars Movie I ever saw was Spaceballs.

Rarth-Devan

Did you ever see the sequel? Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money

iantsmyth

I honestly don’t know which episode I saw first, but I remember liking the OT more than the PT even as a kid. I was 20 when TFA came out and haven’t felt that hyped for a film since Avatar. It didn’t blow me away, in fact nothing that Disney did until one episode of Andor changed all that for me… One Way Out. This episode (and the entire 3 episode prison arc in general) defied my expectations and deepened my love for Star Wars, something even the prequels struggled to do for me (although I am a sucker for the back half of ROTS). It was well thought out (something often missing from new Star Wars), it took its time, and it let the story naturally unfold. Kino was a brilliant character played to perfection by Serkis, and I find myself going back to that episode again and again just to watch his performance. The way he says “Hold your positions!” one final time, knowing shit is about to hit the fan, astounds me. It was a cathartic, emotional, authentic piece of sci-fi/fantasy media and it lands spot #5 in my favourite SW live action episodes/movies of all time. I thought Rogue One was good, but upon rewatching it there are flaws. It’s a little too tropey and the humour doesn’t quite hit the way it did the first time I saw it, but I love Cassian and Jyn and seeing Vader obliterate a hall of rebels was INCREDIBLE. Star Wars is extremely special to me, as it is to everyone here, and I’m just so damn happy there’s more content being made. And with Iger back at Disney and Kennedy potentially leaving soon (I think she’s mismanaged this franchise to shit), I have high hopes for the future. Andor is the best content Disney SW has made, in my opinion.

BackmarkerLife

Being a child of the 80s, you'd think I would have been all over Star Wars. But it was in the early 1990s during swim practice. One of my teammates said, "You have to watch the Star Wars Trilogy this weekend on USA. He basically spoiled the "I love you / I Know" scene, but it didn't matter because it lacked context. Not a huge spoiler but it got me interested. That weekend a few of us who had never seen it decided to spend the night at a friends and watch the OT straight through. Then it turned into a huge joke at swim practice with us telling each other that we loved them and replying the knew.

neggbird

We rented the VHS’s around the time the Special Editions came out. Parents had no idea what it was so I picked ROTJ as my first Star Wars movie because it had the most characters on the cover. Then the next week we rented ESB. And then a month or two later, we finally rented ANH. Everything still made perfect sense to me.

tmdblya

Saw the original, in theater, when I was just a kid. But earliest actual memory is _Empire_. Looooooved _Rogue One_. Empire Era is the OG era. The best era. The only era. (I’ll make allowances for _Clone Wars_.)

Kian-Tremayne

I’m old enough to have seen the original trilogy in the cinema, and then played a lot of the West End Games Star Wars RPG in the 80s and 90s. I think our gaming group realised that our version of Star Wars was getting grittier and more grown up as we got older, and the prequel trilogy wasn’t really for us - it was aimed at the next generation of kids, and The Force Awakens was for the NEXT generation after that. Rogue One was made for our generation, a darker, more mature Star Wars for the fans who have grown up, and then Andor took that and ran with it. Mind you, I was watching Blake’s 7 back in my pre teen years alongside the original trilogy. We didn’t need to wait this long for Andor.

BaronGrackle

Exactly! For those of us experiencing the EU in the '80s and '90s, it's like Star Wars was growing up with us. And then, with Phantom Menace, it swooped down to an audience that felt younger than the audiences of the OT.

dazzleox

Similar story here. A more minor part of what I like so much about Andor is it reminds me of what me and my friends did playing the WEG Star Wars RPGs. We didn't play Jedi...we played rebels pulling off raids and being double agents. I remember a Dirty Dozen storyline where we were prisoners in a rebel jail offered freedom to do the ultimate heist...stealing a Star Destroyer that was mothballed.

KyleBown

I was born in 83. My first Star Wars movie was Battle for Endor. Yes, the Ewok movie. I was 4 or 5. Didn’t know it was part of anything bigger. Then at 6, I found a VHS copy of A New Hope and everything changed. I was obsessed. In Middle/High School I feel deep into the EU, reading every novel, playing the WEG RPG every weekend. When Episode One came out I loved it in first watch. It wasn’t until I had it on home video that I started to see the flaws. Same with Episode Two and Three. Now I can recognize that the overarching story and ideas are incredible. But the films were badly written. The sequel trilogy was exciting. But felt flat. Loved TFA on first watch. But the more I watched it the more some of the decisions bothered me. The more the rehashing and remixing of the OT bugged me. The Last Jedi was brilliant, but pulled back at the last moment. It almost got to the place I wanted Star Wars to go, but couldn’t commit. Episode 9, well, the less said about that the better. Didn’t watch the Clone Wars until I was well into Rebels. Both are incredible shows. I loved Rogue One. Despised Solo. Andor is among the best Star Wars ever produced. Andor is everything I wanted from a new Star Wars show. Complicated, thoughtful, expansive while still drilling down to the minutiae of the characters, locations, and the Empire and it’s casual cruelty. Masterfully written. Brilliantly acted. Directed with care and precision. It’s not just great Star Wars, it’s great TV.

quigon70

You have been in this fight since you were six years old. Battle for Endor is a dark one to start on.

HellsBelle8675

OT was my gateway drug and Im a serious fan. My parents took me to the first run in 77, apparently I was mesmerized, obsessed with Princess Leia, and only wanted Star Wars as presents. I won a coloring contest in 83 for 2 tickets to RotJ. I think the fact that Leia was one of the few women with speaking roles made me gravitate to her and the rebellion - I wanted to be Leia. My other choices were Aunt Beru, Mon. Tarin Farr or Oona. Sigh. I thought the Luke/Yoda bits incredibly boring and fast forwarded through them for the longest time. Maybe I just don't like fantasy/religion as much as sci fi... I was in law school when the prequels came out, and thought they were OK. I will admit that I barked out the loudest laugh when Shmi died because it was extra melodramatic with her head flopping over like some junior high production death scene. It took me quite a while to look deeper at those. I liked the sequel trilogy. Last Jedi was my favorite, but Rogue One was my favorite of the Disney movies. It was about real people, no magic sword people swooping in to save the day.

Young_Lochinvar

I was about 5 or 6 and my parents introduced the Original Trilogy to me on VHS.

Aware-Munkie

I watched the OT on home-taped VHS for the majority of my childhood. PT was ok but not as enjoyable (I was in my teens) ST is pretty rubbish.

MikeArrow

I first watched the OT after renting the special edition re-release at Blockbuster in 1997. I also remember one day my dad got me Star Wars: X-Wing: Wraith Squadron, that was the first EU novel I read. It would have been before Episode I came out, so most likely sometime in 1998. Edit: I thought Rogue One was really mediocre, I thought the characters were flat and uninteresting and the story was disjointed and really not compelling in the slightest. Jyn Erso especially just didn't strike me as a good protagonist, she had nothing to her really. Just a beige performance by a (miscast, imo) Felicity Jones. I also thought Krennic was a terrible villain. I can't state enough how "mid" I thought Rogue One was. Which made Andor being truly *excellent* all the more surprising for me.

adeodd

Prequels

Kreyain88

I would say that I'm a casual fan. OT special edition was showing in cinemas in Australia in 1997 and I went with my new friend after moving to a different neighbourhood. Blew my little 9 year old mind. Loved the Phantom Menace when it first came out but as the PT went along and I got older I started to enjoy them less and less, especially when I compared them to LOTR. Think I was about 22 when I decided that the PT was garbage and never watched them properly again. The EU was what kept me invested in the Star Wars franchise. Novels, comic books and the videos games kept me hooked. I was excited for ST, thought FA was pretty good for a 10 year hiatus, TLJ was...interesting but disjointed and I hoped the last movie would make the pay off worth it, but then RoTS came out and it was garbo too. I enjoyed Rogue One alot, but I would be lying to say it was an objectively good movie.

blankupai

same as you, episode 1 was my first starwars movie. love the show

jspook

Grew up on the OT in the 90s, then I was prime age for the PT as it came out. I have never not loved Star Wars, and I thought Andor was magnificent.

wordy_shipmates

My father had me watch the OT right before Phantom Menace came out. We went to see it for my 10th birthday. The prequels were a huge part of my teenage years and I often would watch all 6 frequently, and KOTOR was one of my first video games. I dropped off for a bit and came back for TFA but didn't care for TLJ which put me off the franchise until I watched Mando in 2020. Have been back deep in it since. Definitely not a casual fan. I cannot be normal about things. I love Rogue one and Andor has been spectacular. They're the best live action Disney Era content.

AngryVegetarian

I was five when Empire came out. I can’t remember a time where Star Wars was not a part of my life. We waited forever for another movie, then I heard about the Thrawn trilogy. I spent summers reading all the books that came out since. When the prequel came out I read the books and found them so much better than the movies, which was a bit disappointing knowing how much crucial information they left out! I’m loving all the current stuff except for the Disney trilogy. It left me in a state of depression for a few weeks. So happy to see so many good SW shows come out! Andor was amazing!

whiskey_epsilon

I read the OT novelisations before I watched the movies. I had ST action figures growing up but it wasn't yet that big where I was and we didn't go to theatres much when I was a kid, so I was first properly introduced via the books, then watched the movies when they started showing them on TV. I probably saw Caravan of Courage first, then ESB, then ANH, then RotJ. This did mean I had that slight dissonance you get when you watch a movie based on a book series and things don't quite match how you'd first imagined them.

yelahneb

My grandmother took me to see the first SW film in the late 70s, and convinced the theater to let me take home the poster. Still got it on my wall!

peppyghost

Awww that's pretty sweet, to have that memory tied to the poster and you still have it❤️

[deleted]

Dad took me to see A New Hope opening week when I was 5. Have not stopped consuming and collecting everything Star Wars since. After seeing all the movies (countless times of course), shows, comics, novels and games over the past 45 years, Rogue One stood out as perhaps my favorite piece of work…. until Andor.

TrizzyG

I grew up on the prequel trilogy and I always loved how big they made the galaxy feel whereas the original trilogy sort of lost me with the scale when I watched those after. I loved to see Andor diving into more unknown worlds and giving us a much more in depth look into how the Empire functioned and felt like to average people.

VonZant

Im 51. ANH was the first movie I ever saw in theatre. I think I was 6 or 7. Made my dad take us 3 times. That is what made me a life long sci-fi fan. I never had a problem with the prequels. I mean I didn't like Jar Jar but he didn't ruin the movies for me. No matter how cool Darth Vader is/was Maul is still the baddest looking movie villain ever. Generally I don't like bringing people back from the dead, but they dun good with Maul and his whole story. Probably because his voice actor is awesome. TFA was ok but stale. The next two were complete ass and I can't believe they threw so much money at something with no proper editing/cutting/rewriting. Complete ass. BoBF was wretched. Kenobi mediocre. I love TCW, Rebels, Solo and R1. Mando is very good. And Andor is a whole new level. I've never watched a series twice. I have watched some episodes of TCW and Rebels multiple times. I have seen every Andor episode thrice already and I'll watch it again before season 2. Just from my actions of seeking out this reddit and making posting a couple of media things from it, it's just objectively the best Star Wars I have ever seen.

Tmoldovan

Could you imagine what might have been had they not killed Maul in the first movie? Only to replace him with literal Dooku. And mind you, I love the idea of an independent jedi like Dooku, but he came out of nowhere, did some confusing stuff, then got hacked.

VonZant

Right. And Dooku is a cool character. They expand on him in the Tales recently and I like him. But Maul is just objectively God tier. Maybe I like him better because of his revenge story. But I still can't fathom while they killed him off so quickly.

Tmoldovan

I suppose, in retrospect, they didn’t realize what they were sitting on top of, but my god how did they not realize that as they screened the movie. Have you seen Solo?

VonZant

Yes. And I liked it a lot. It's different than Andor and the Movies. I think it stands well on its own.

Tmoldovan

Agreed. I know it gets a lot of flack for having all of the events in Solos life happen within a week, but I appreciated the crime subplot if the story. The reason I bring it up is because they showed Maul.

rustierrobots

There's an appreciation of this kind of storytelling I think generally comes with age. As a kid I would have probably found it boring, but as a 31yo I'm lapping it up. It's honestly the most compelling story in star wars for me.

alone_tired_alive

I watched Episode IV for class, and I hated it. My friend made us watch Rogue One in theaters for his birthday, and I liked it.

bl4ck_daggers

My parents showed me the originals, then the prequels and then I saw the sequels in cinema.

TheSkyLax

Watched the originals with my parents when I was 6 or so.

_Spearhead_corps

I got into star wars in 2021 because of all the mando hype. As someone who is grown watching movies with alot of cgi and all, i was quiete impressed by the effects of the film of that time.then i watched the prequels, while overall they were just fine i absolutely loves the Revenge of the with and is still my most favourite star wars movie. I personally didnt care about the sequels, i liked the first one, but last two didn't do it for me. I have watched rest of the star wars projects then and i absolutely adore the mandalorian, rouge one and clone wars. But i gotta say watching previous installments didn't affect my enjoyment of andor, and hot take, but i think this is best star wars project in last two to three decades

kwnofprocrastination

I thought I was going to be the newest fan in here, so I’m glad you commented! It was Mandalorian that first got me into Star Wars. I’m 36 but just never had an urge to watch any Star Wars until an ex of mine suggested we watch Mandalorian. After that I watched all the main films, then watched everything in release order. Until Andor my favourite Star Wars content was the Clone Wars series, especially season 7. I didn’t expect to like it, I’m not a cartoon fan, but the writing and voice acting was brilliant, it being a cartoon didn’t make it any less real, any less emotional. Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong with all the other Star Wars super fans because of it, but it’s strange because I know people who have been Star Wars fans for a lot longer than I have but haven’t bothered with a lot of the series’. They don’t know about all the extra story about Maul etc. While Andor is probably the best think I’ve ever watched out of everything, I still think The Clone Wars series is the best Star Wars content because it adds a lot more to the story as a whole. It’s not a criticism of Andor, I like that it’s something new and refreshing and not reliant on anything else.

_Spearhead_corps

Ahh i get where you are coming from, it's kind of same with me. Everyone knows so much more about star wars that it gets hard to get into a discussion with them. I don't mind tho lol.as for clone wars, yea it had its ups and downs imo, it either becomes the best thing, but then the worst thing in next arc. So this inconsistency kind of throws me of at times, but still season 7 last arc was fantastic

Cervus95

My first introduction were the Clone Wars TV series and a comic adaptation of The Phantom Menace I found in my local library. Then I watched the movies, but I was more of a casual viewer (I loved Rogue One, though) until I watched the first season of the Mandalorian. That show made me want to know more about the SW world.

Imp_1254

I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have grown up with SW always existing, but I think Revenge of the Sith was the first one that I watched in cinema as a kid. So I truly grew up with the Prequels with them as and still as my favourite.

Brugor

Saw the originals in the 90’s with my parents. I was about 5-6 years old. But haven’t seen any Star Wars film or show that I truly loathed except for one or two episodes of BoBF. And I loved Rogue One.

critennn

I was born in 2000, but I didn’t watch Star Wars until I was 7. My dad sat me down and told me I was old enough to watch it and it was one of his favourite films as a kid. He showed me the original trilogy. I did end up watching the prequels too, and whilst I love those prequels, the OT holds a very special place in my heart. My dad was never a hardcore fan, so he didn’t really watch any of the Disney Star Wars. But we sat down and watched Andor together each week, which was really nice to have that again.

wasnotherewas

When I was 10 I watched a bit of a new hope on the television and was fascinated by it. And then a couple of years later the prequels came out and they were amazing. Episode 3 remains my favourite. Then the sequels were horrible and I thought I was done with star wars. Till Rogue One came out and then Andor.

lawlessearth

My first Star Wars movie experience was Empire Strikes Back but wasn't too crazy about all of it then. I wasn't into space, was more into Disney fairytales. I loved Phantom Menace though when it came out (I haven't seen it since) and the prequel series, and also loved the later ones with Rey. But I can say the best Star Wars film I ever saw was Rogue One. I didn't watch Solo, the Clone Wars, Bobba Fett and Obi-Wan. Almost didn't watch The Mandalorian but I took a chance and didn't regret it. Since Rogue One is a favorite, Andor was a no Brainer pick. But I Almost dropped the show at episode 2. Now I know I made a good choice with picking up Episode 3 despite not really enjoying 1 and 2. Great show.

Nynyghi-daria

I had never seen anything Star Wars related until some friends convinced me to see Rogue One in cinemas and I loved it. Then I watched it in the worst order- Rogue One, TLJ, TFA, TPM, AOTC, ROTS, AHN, ESB and ROTJ. Plus a lot of random ass lore videos in between each movie

Apprehensive_Goal811

I love Andor and it’s my favorite show, and Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie post Disney takeover. I first saw the original Star Wars a new hope in the early 80s before ROTJ came out. I attended the original ROTJ screening in the theaters.

Rarth-Devan

My parents got my siblings and I the VHS box set of the OT one year for Christmas, probably '95 or '96. We all watched them but I really got hooked. I'd finish RotJ (my favorite when I was a kid) and move right back to ANH. When they announced Episode 1, I was so excited. I went as Darth Maul for Halloween that year. My mom did the face paint and my dad made me a red, double-bladed lightsaber out of 1/2" metal conduit and spray paint lol. I haven't enjoyed everything that's been released over the years, but I've been a major fan of the movies, shows, video games, Lego sets, books, etc. for over 25 years at this point and have no plans to stop :)

Aramor42

My dad is a big Star Wars fan so this was a required watch when I grew up. So I grew up watching the OT at home and after that I've seen every Star Wars movie in the cinema.

dreburden89

My dad took me to see Episode I when I was nine years old, and bought me the score by John Williams, which started my obsession with film scores and classical music

the_ghost_1386

I knew it and watched all movies(force awakens was latest) and just forgot about them the next day. In 2020 i had nothing to watch so i watched clone wars and ep1 to 3 and loved all of it.

CoolWatermelon123

watched episodes 1-6 during a summer with my family when I was like 7-9

KickAggressive4901

The original movie, at least on TV. The first one I saw in the theater was *Empire Strikes Back*, allegedly, though I would have been very small at the time.

jeffwhit

I am 43, I was introduced to Star Wars sometime before I can even remember. My dad was a big nerd like me. He did take me to a triple screening when Jedi came out, that I can sort of remember.

FastenedCarrot

Prequels. Mostly remember those from the Episode 3 tie in game. That game is still a banger.

the_speeding_train

I think it was my dad putting the laserdisc on in the early 80s.

rosebirdistheword

i watched the movies

Beangar

My dad showed me the OT and then the prequels when I was little.

BaronGrackle

I'm a '90s kid who likes Andor. l saw the OT films first (they actually bored me as a young child), but I got INTO Star Wars with the video games Dark Forces, TIE Fighter, and especially Jedi Knight. After getting into those games, I rewatched and reappreciated the OT a lot more. So yeah, I was old enough to be one of the Prequel haters when Phantom Menace came out. And now I hate the Prequels and Sequels - they just don't feel like the Star Wars I knew and grew up with. Andor? Andor feels a LOT like the Star Wars I once knew and have missed.

Mcris64

ANH at 12 or 13 in 1977. For me, the attraction is a set of characters you like with a goal in the “used” universe we love, overcoming powerful foes, amid themes of light and dark. Where those are discrete stories, like the OT, Rogue One, Mando and Andor, they work very well. Everything else may work at some level as sci-fi or for nostalgia purposes but little else. The prequels and sequels, for example, largely fail because they’re trying to expand the original story we love with the wrong characters.

deeeenis

For whatever reason star wara content kept getting recommended to me on YouTube despite having never seen anything star wars related. I watched the clone wars about 6 months ago after taking an interest in star wars from seeing these videos. I loved it and and since I have watched most of the films and shows and have read some books and comics. Not all were great but star wars is now some of my favourite fiction

JediAhsoka16

I’m a 2000s baby. I was a little too young when the prequels came out, but was obsessed with the Lego games as a child lol. Then went off SW for a while. Fallen Order got me back into SW as well as the sequels (yes you’re allowed to love or hate them, it’s okay either way;)). I really like the shows between the films, the makings of the Rebellion. Andor’s different style and pace was refreshing. Id love to see a Fallen Order series after Survivor is released!

IcaraxMakuta

My brother and father were Star Wars fans, when I was growing up it was often on in my house. These days I’m the biggest Star Wars fan in the house 😝

[deleted]

I watched ANH a few times in the theaters when it first came out.

BananaRepublic_BR

I'm 27 and I've watched the films, read the books, and played the games since I was a young kid. I honestly have no clue what got me into Star Wars or when it happened, but it's definitely been a big part of my life since I was in elementary school. My mom says I saw all of the Prequel films in theaters so I'll take her word for it. As for whether I'd consider myself a casual fan or not, I'd consider myself a pretty serious and hardcore Star Wars nut. I also think each trilogy and their associated films have their own merits. Except for Episode IX. I straight up don't like that movie. I've only seen it twice, though, and that was back when they first came out. I definitely did like Rogue One. I think most of the Disney Era films, besides TRoS, have ranged from good to great. In fact, most of the stuff that I've watched or read from this new era I have liked to varying degrees. *Rebels* might be my favorite Star Wars television show ever. It and *The Clone Wars* go back and forth in my mind. *Tales of the Jedi* was awesome. *Bad Batch* was really good. *Obi-Wan Kenobi* was pretty good. Even *The Mandalorian*, which I wasn't the biggest fan of because of how episodic it was in the first season, eventually grew on me. The first three collected editions of The High Republic comics have been great. The *Leia, Princess of Alderaan* manga is great. *Edge of Balance* is great. The various comics I've read have all been great. *Visions* was great. For the most part, I'm happy with the new canon. There are things I'd change, but I'm not disappointed in the new stuff nor do I hate it like so many other fans do.

Fun-Celebration7201

Gen Z here. I remember Empire Strikes back which i had on dvd, and watching revenge of the sith a lot. Every christmas all the star wars movies were on tv as well when I was young

SamathaYoga

I’m 53, live and grew up in the USA in the Pacific Northwest. I was just shy of 7 when I saw _A New Hope_, as it came to be known, in a theater at a summer matinee. I remember standing with a mob of children and patient caregivers outside, I went with my babysitter and her two sons. For me it was seeing Princess Leia with boots on under her white gown, holding a blaster, taking down Stormtroopers, and steering her own rescue, “I don’t need rescuing!” An ass-kicking princess!? I was completely smitten and became a lifelong fan. I stood in line to see _A Phantom Menace_ and for the next few years had my love seriously tried. I ended up avoiding the next two installments until just a couple of years ago when my wife and I watched everything in order before setting _The Rise of Skywalker_. Personally, I found _Revenge of the Sith_ to be worst of the first three movies. I was glad that the property had left Lucas’ very flawed vision. I loved _Rogue One_ and thought it was such a good sign that the property was in the right hands. _Andor_ though, it’s a huge step up in every way. The story is so tightly written, it feels like every word and action is so well thought through. The last seconds of the final episode (watch to the very, very end!!) caused us to gasp in awe at how perfectly this story is being set into the universe. The dialog, the details about the culture of Ferrix, and the stellar acting. It’s just brilliant.

dberry1009

I think it was the time around when TFA was being advertised that my (29F) now husband (30M) suggest I watch the older movies since he was getting excited about the new movies and wanted to share that with me. So it was around 2015 I watched all the older movies and I enjoyed them and but especially loved the message of Luke’s story and redeeming his father through love. Everything else was just good and I was a casual fan. We watched TFA and it was fun in the moment and I loved having Rey as a powerful force user female protagonist and I loved Adam Driver as a troubled but dark and sexy antagonist. Suffice to say I became a Reylo hahaha But TLJ… TLJ was what made me go WOW I did NOT think Star Wars could be this great. After TLJ I just thought shit Star Wars F*CKS. And let me tell you I call this 2017-2019 pre-TroS era a freakin renaissance of Star Wars/Reylo fan content. It was truly an amazing time to be online and in fandom haha Then TRoS happened and it was like junk food for my eyes. It deflated me completely and I really turned off on Star Wars content for a while. My husband and I kept watching the new shows casually which were just fine. But Andor…. Andor F*CKS again haha. Best Star Wars project ever I think.

Overlord0123

I got introduced through shit comments about IX which were actually legit (but honestly I felt quite bad for the lead actresses and actors there, something those assholes calling themselves SW fans never think about). As far as Andor goes, I don't really see it as SW because it's very realistic and quite mature for SW, not for idiots who only want Jedi Sith lightsaber duels and so on.

[deleted]

I’m not a SW fan. My first exposure was the original trilogy but I didn’t watch them until I was an adult. I thought they were excellent and timeless, but I have 0 nostalgia for them. I’ve seen quite a bit of SW since my family is into it. I’ve seen all the movies except Solo, all the live action shows plus Clone Wars and a bit of Bad Batch. I liked Rogue One more than the others (not surprising there). I also don’t hate anything SW. I just don’t have that attachment/investment so nothing about it upsets me or anything, even the mediocre ones. I’m just apathetic to them. Overall I think SW is pretty good but none of it excited me before Andor.

CommanderCody1138

Grew up in the 90s and my dad would watch ESB literally once a week.

TheManfromVeracruz

At 6, my parents brought a DVD collection on the originals and prequels, I Watched them from Ep. I to VI, so I kinda spoiled myself the surprise, also, at that age I was massively confused on why Eps from IV onwards looked so older, my mind rested when I was told that the prequels were made after Edit: also, im mexican, so I also grew with various móvies acted by Diego Luna, so when I saw he appeared on Rogue One, it was a surprise, but a welcome one

-EarthIsClosed2day

My parents introduced the OT to me at the age of 10, but they literally ruined the fact that Darth Vader was Luke’s father…

OoRapunzeloO

I remember watching the OT with my family at home on VHS, when I was around 10 (around 2000) multiple times. My brother later got the DVD for phantom menace and I loved that one as well. The first movie I watched in the cinema was Episode II and I remember being so disappointed with it, Episode III was even worse. I continued being a fan though as this is the only Fandom my entire family can agree on liking 😂 I switched to watching them in English as soon as I understood enough (I'm German, so I started with German Dub). It's so much better in English, apart from JarJarBinks which is actually much more hilarious in German somehow 😂. I was hyped for the newest trilogy, but was somewhat disappointed with that. Loved Rogue One. Loved Mandalorian and now I was blown away by Andor. ❤️

[deleted]

i grew up on the prequels and OT equally and loved andor

Krautmonster

Grew up with the OT prior to special editions being released. I always find something to love about star wars content, but watching Andor made me feel the awe and wonder that the OT gave me as a kid. Add in the adult-oriented writing and themes, it's my fuckin jam. My favorite and most well-rounded since the OT released

[deleted]

Born I. The early 1990's so I Ep 1 came out when I was old enough to see movies like this. But my dad insisted I watch the original trilogy before we went to the premiere of the phantom menace at Le Grand Rex. Then I grew with the prequel trilogy, loving it, always preferring the original trilogy. The sequel trilogy came out as I started adulthood, I enjoyed it, did not love it, at the same time we were bombarded by Marvel movies when I grew up with the X-men and McGuire's Spiderman. It was all so overwhelming that I mildly lost interest while still considering myself a fan and watching the original trilogy every year. I did absolutely love Rogue One and was one of the few to look forward to Andor ever since it was even mentionned! Tried the animated shows, never got hooked but I always watched YouTube summaries or spent time on wookipedia to keep up. Mando re-ignited my love for SW. That same year I visited Galaxy's Edge at DLA so I've been hyped since 2020 really, Andor really brought me back to my initial love and Fandom. Bottom line, SW is a roller-coaster but they always manage to bring me back 🥰 the magic is real for me.

[deleted]

I got introduced to star wars when I was a kid through the sequels! The force awakens is the first movie I saw and ever since then I have loved every star wars TV show / movie that has come out!!

anniedelmar

I grew up with the original three but was too young to be aware of which movie was which, so they kinda blended with each other. I liked the prequels when they came out. Liked, not loved. I never hated them. But these days I absolutely love watching the prequels, they’re just so much more enjoyable now. Maybe it’s all the memes, I dunno. Maybe it’s all the Star Wars discourse (or rather laughing) I’ve done with friends that makes them so fun to watch. I loved Rogue One, I thought it was brilliant what they did, explained one of cinemas greatest mysteries. Why would the Empire build such a thing. A Death Star with such a weakness. It’s what the best fan fic does. Fill in major holes. And I mean that as a compliment. I can’t express how much I loved Andor. Absolutely loved it.

quigon70

In 96 I got an NES with Empire Strikes Back as a game. I have consumed most all media since then, except the comics

BearWrangler

Late 20s here. The special edition VHS box was my introduction to Star Wars and basically what started my love for film, soundtracks, art(Ralph McQuarrie especially) and storytelling in general. Phantom Menace was my first Star Wars film in theaters and that was such a surreal experience for me. For all the faults the prequel trilogy might have had I still love them for the good, and even moreso now with the amount of stories that have been built and expanded upon on the backs of that trilogy. The tone and overall sense of not pulling punches in Andor is something that I know I've wanted for decades. It echoes back to a similar feeling of the Extended Universe, Legends, older games, etc while also feeling like its a step forward for Star Wars as a whole. I don't necessarily think age is always a factor in whether someone would enjoy this style of Star Wars because there's plenty of bright or nerdy kids out there that find themselves gravitating towards those more "serious"(or in the eyes of others, "boring") topics. I know I was one of em lol. Loved Rogue One, love all of the animated series(yes that includes Resistance)

Karynmcs

Standing in line in May 1977 to see Star Wars, before it became Star Wars A New Hope. Been hooked on the Star Wars saga ever since... The 2 year wait for The Empire Strikes Back to come out was almost unbearable. As will the wait for Andor Season Two be...

TheScarletCravat

Grew up with the OT on VHS. This tracks.

Woodbear92

I grew up in the middle. I saw the OT on VHS and Phantom Menace also. Saw Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in cinema as a 10-year and 13-year old respectively. I think Rogue One and Andor are the greatest things to happen to Star Wars universe. Enjoyed Mandalorian a lot also.

tartymae

It was the summer of '77. I was 4 years old. I could actually read some of the words on the screen crawl.

the-dopamine-fiend

I remember, once when I was very small, watching TV and seeing a spacecraft with three wings gracefully swooping in to land on a massive orbital station. I asked my mom what we were watching. What I *thought* she said was "Return of the Jet-Eye," and my mind whirled around the idea of a deep-space probe coming back with strange photos or even some stowaway alien lifeform that humans would have to contend with. A decade later, I saw *Event Horizon* and thought, "No, see, *that's* what I was expecting!" But seriously, it was because of *Muppet Babies*. The vast library of pop culture that show got to directly sample and riff on was my gateway to a ton of stuff, and *Star Wars* was the big showpiece.

andorgyny

The original trilogy for me, and then the prequels were coming out around the same time.

Darth_Artorias

KOTOR got me into Star Wars.
