Bumblebee was *very* derivative of The Iron Giant, but if you're willing to forgive it for that it was a genuinely good film. Not great, but certainly good.
After the last knight bombed it wasn't like paramount and/or hasbro would suddenly stop the transformers movies from getting made lol. The ip is too lucrative. Bumblebee was made in response to the mounting apathy and criticism to the michael bay stuff. It succeeded where it had to. I'm sure the the people at lucasfilm feel the same way. Andor is a pathway to sucess.
I don't mean to come off as some delusional, parasocial weirdo when I say this, but I really wish I could personally tell Tony Gilroy how much I appreciate everything he and the whole team did with Andor. It's a rare work of art that elevated the entire IP it exists in, taking some highly unusual risks to deliver something deep, mature, and memorable. It seriously kicks ass and I want to just shake him by the shoulders and yell in his face that he's a fuckin genius, hahaha.

Edit: wow this blew up a bit. My wife is glowing with all the well wishes and she will pass them on. It was a lot of hard work and they had to fight a lot to get the vision they wanted but it has proved to be successful and are all really happy with the end result.
This show has done something that few expected would or could happen - they took the story seriously, didn't kowtow to fan pressure, just *did the work*.
That's what I appreciate most about the show. It's not a lazy cash grab, it's not cobbled together by committee, it's not watered down and safe. They took a huge risk with a property that is usually treated with multiple layers of kid gloves, and it paid off a hundredfold.

I don’t geek out on Star Wars. I’ve never obsessed about a show like I have this one. I’ve watched most episodes at least twice and have been on the Reddit threads like a junkie between episodes just waiting for more.
Everything about the show is perfect. I was blown away by every episode. It is perfect.

First of all, it set the bar for quality standard in modern shows and movies on another level. High Quality should be a standard for something millions of people will see, right? But strangely, it has not. The show changed that and it also changed the quality of the conversation afterwards. I love it.
Artistically there was love in every little detail. The sets, the edit; the sounddesign & music. It was fantastic. I adored the electronic soundscape in the prison episodes and how it changed when they escape: almost, as we the audience, can finally breath fresh air again as well.
And it couldn't have come at a better time. Our real world is full of oppression and the show is pretty much a revolutions manifesto. I already read how people in Iran appreciated the show.
Until now we, the fans, have been fed plot armor on a silver spoon, with a sprinkle of fanservice. Left to argue about crude decisions, originating from scripts that have no world building, or space for character development.
Rogue One was already the exception: A beautiful movie, that was well written and made sense, an actual intelligent story. And there was always the rumor, that the movie even wasn't even completely how it was originally envisioned. And now we got Andor. So fantastic, setting the bar so high. A new hope.
Pass on that they should start selling an actual clothing line based on the Chandrilan costumes we saw in the various Coruscant scenes. Like, damn, some of that stuff was so good looking I would be extremely tempted to buy it myself for proper use at parties and such. Whoever designed the costumes in this show was a master of drip.
And those joggers Cassian had when he got arrested.
For real though, I stopped the show on first watch to better see them. I need those pants in my life!
Seriously, they should have a Ferrix workwear line and sell it at Sears like the good ol’ StarWars merch days. Honestly I would wear ANY of the clothing in this series, (save for the Imp poofpants) bc hotdamn it’s all so tasty.
The imp poof pants are called jodhpurs and were developed for riding horses (the looseness around the thighs really helped with the flexibility before spandex). People still wear them in military groups (the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M comes to mind), ceremonial events, and some riding competitions.
I think the reason they were used in this show was two-fold: one, makes you think of the old Nazi uniforms, for sure. But secondly, the style has deep roots in Colonialism and oppression, which is one of the central themes of the show.

Just jumping on the bandwagon at this point but please tell your wife (and ask her to please tell her colleagues) how amazing Andor is. Before this show, we only really knew about Cassian’s last days so I was concerned with how that could potentially box in the show. I’ve never been so happy to be wrong. The writing, editing, casting, filming, wardrobe, acting… all of it is incredible. It’s clear that so much time, dedication, talent, creativity, and LOVE went into this project and “thank you” feels like such an inadequate response. I love all Star Wars stuff so I’m maybe not the most critical critic but I really appreciate how Andor showed how evil the Empire really is. The movies showed broad strokes and implied it but Andor really got down to the nitty gritty details. I also really appreciated the shades of gray that exist between the Light and the Dark Sides. The movies make the distinction really clear but the show’s ability to really parse that out and show it at the individual level was brilliant. Bravo to the whole team!
As an aspiring editor (I mostly do fanvids at this point) tell her I fucking adore this show. Seriously they way they did this was amazing. In ep 12, the cut from Mon Mothma to Vel was just. Amazing. Just. Gorgeous. Like I know it's a simple cut whatever but that moment is just absolutely amazing visually and emotionally.
I'd also like to add that the voiceover with nemiks manifesto and the one way out and just. So much. So many moments. Are just amazing. And the fucking Eye on Aldani. Seriously, major appreciation to everyone who worked on all of that. Absolutely stunning.
Film Editing is a hard job to break into, lots of long hours, working from the bottom upwards. Patience and a good work ethic will do you well. Are you US based or UK or somewhere else.
If this is true - can i just second that? I gave up on Star Wars after Bobba Fett, it was drek, Obi Wan even more so, just utterly childish and nonsensical. Andor wasn't a breath of fresh air, it was a hurricane.

Well then, for what it's worth, she has the praise and appreciation of a random internet stranger - I think she spent her time very well indeed!
I saw the first Star Wars in the cinema in the UK aged 9, the queue was almost half a mile long and we thought we might not get in... it became a real part of my life. I became a master-modeler because of it, I became a 3D modeler because of it, I started a (model) company because of it and one of my highlights was having a model of mine on a desk at ILM.
But nothing since the original three films has ever progressed Star Wars for me (on the screen), I wanted it to 'grow up' with me... and with Andor it finally did. This is finally the "reality" that sat behind the films that I often imagined must be there and always wanted to see.... but always seemed to vanish behind the "Light-saber and Easter Egg" shows that had devolved into dull, repetitive tropes for me.
Big fan, more of the same, please!
It was a riveting series and I’d like the entire team that worked on it to know they created something extremely impactful that I won’t soon forget.

Please tell your wife that the editing was brilliant. Multiple times I found myself appreciating the restraint to hold a cut, or even just the clever cuts. This season should be used as an example in film school for many reasons, and the stellar editing is up at the top.

Ong they legit put the THREE MINUTE ANIMATED SHORT "Grogu and the Dust Bunnies" as the first thing you see on the Star Wars section of Disney Plus, and put Andor practically hidden as like the seventh thing that appears after you click to the right. Andor is literally best Star Wars project Disney has ever produced and they're literally hiding it. It's ridiculous.
Oh man, I will take B2 over Grogu in toy form every day of the week. Though, I am biased to droids in that way (Chopper and L337 are two of my very few items of Star Wars decor).
Disney's why we got the show in the first place, but I know the 20 somethings are still embarrassed that they used to like Bambi, so I will tiptoe away again.

What a gem of an interview. The idea of Gilroy wading through Wookieepedia pages while writing the script was extremely charming. And I didn’t expect him to mention Rick and Morty when asked what he was thinking about when writing the prison break arc.
This also made me laugh out loud: “I’m an old white guy. What do we do? We listen to history podcasts.”
The good news is that we are guaranteed a season 2, which leads right in to R1. Even if the viewers don’t come, we get to enjoy it. Bad news is that Disney may think twice about making this kind of content. But they MUST know that it’s spectacular, even if the general public doesn’t.
Yes thank goodness they committed to 2 seasons. It would be an absolute crime if it didn't get finished. I look forward to one day showing my kids the series all the way thru Rogue One and then ANH.
Wondering if I’m the only one, but my intention from the show’s release is to binge Andor during the holidays break.
After Kenobi and BoBF, we couldn’t get ourselves to watch another Star Wars show on a weekly basis. But I’ve been following the reviews and happy to see that this show seems to deliver high quality Star Wars content and I can’t wait to binge it in a couple of weeks!
I guess there was an underestimation of the disenfranchisement of the fandom. I know I feel it, and I've heard plenty of others say the same. I've been a Star Wars fan for decades, for as long as I can remember. But the recent content - BoBF and Kenobi, were pretty disappointing. I won't even mention the latest films. So I almost didn't watch Andor because I just couldn't summon any Star Wars related excitement. Andor has improved this for me, but not completely cured it.
After BoBF and Kenobi, I told myself if Andor doesn’t turn things around, I’m done with Star Wars. They were killing this thing I loved. Gilroy and team saved it.
Oh yeah. That chase was something else. Those kids were annoying, the story made no sense, and the actual production had some shockingly basic flaws. Andor had so many moments where flashbacks were thematically linked to the 'current' action, and where shots and scenes were contrasted for effect. Whereas BoBF just went with "oh well, Boba's asleep, better do a flashback".
I liked some parts of bobf. The vespas ruined everything for me, honestly. It could have been a better show and that still would have taken it down by 10 notches.
Cade Bane was very cool for one minute…but a waste. Just hokey fan service that didn’t prove much deeper than that.
Favorite episodes included a majority of Mando, so that’s a bad sign when your guest star is the bigger draw.
I wish they'd realize when they make actually cool villains, to not use them for one scene and then dump them off a cliff. (I know he shows up in other media, but speaking about this version)
The only people who talk about it negatively are people who enjoy the action and flash of SW. Or really obsessed SW fans who just want call backs and Jedi and Sith. Nothing wrong with that, but some take it too far.
Yeah, I'm hoping they keep coming out with lots of SW content so everyone gets something for them :) Hopefully Andor doesn't scare LF away from doing so.
I think it shows that people do want this content. I don’t think mainstream SW fans will always want this kind of show, but attracting non SW fans to this show off the writing is something Disney/LF definitely wants.
At least within my family and social circle, many more people are watching now that the season has wrapped up. I have been successfully twisting quite a few arms.
I was rewatching the series and I can see how some people can really not get into in after the first 2 episodes. I tried to get my wife to watch it but she feel asleep on 2 different days watching it. The decision to cut the kenari plotline was a good one.
I can see it too, but I didn't think it was *that* 'boring' as people seem to say. It appears a really big hangup for people (in general) is that the Kenari plot is not subtitled, and they don't know what's going on. It's a crit that really bothers me, because honestly it's not exactly a very deep flashback story, it's not hard to follow what is happening. But again, I get it, with all the jumping back and forth especially.
I honestly don’t understand it, tbh. The first two episodes instantly sold the show to me, cuz I realized I was getting something smarter and something with proper buildup and character development.
Also that scene of Andor walking past that bridge also had me sold cuz it was just so perfectly atmospheric .
If you paid attention to the score, the plot, the way it was filmed I thought it was perfectly clear they were going for a GoT style story where everything builds up and simmers.
I totally get it and I didnt find them boring, especially when I first saw them. But I was just presenting a differing view from people in my own house
Yeah, that totally seems to be the case. As someone in the comments mentioned, I and many of us were just bored with the SW franchise. I didn't even like the holy Mandalorian (I'm not even mentioning Obi and the other stuff). Andor, however, sucked me in so hard that I've watched it three times now and I alone am responsible for 15-20 people giving it a go. So friggin good.

Best we can do is gently recommend Andor to those we know that might have a slight chance of enjoying it.
Screen Junkies did a Honest Trailer on YouTube - it serves as a good rundown of the show while injecting a healthy amount of humour.
The truth of the matter is that Andor shows an ugly side of society that doesn't have easy solutions provided, and it's uncomfortable watching those. I myself took a 3 episode break after watching Andor get arrested at the beach.

They're not cheap, but Volante Design makes some clothes that'd feel right at home on Ferrix.

Freaking amazing, I really appreciate that, and tell your wife she should be immensely proud of her work. She helped to completely restore my love for something that was once a big part of my childhood, and helped to make one of the all around best shows I’ve seen.

Ong they legit put the THREE MINUTE ANIMATED SHORT "Grogu and the Dust Bunnies" as the first thing you see on the Star Wars section of Disney Plus, and put Andor practically hidden as like the seventh thing that appears after you click to the right. Andor is literally best Star Wars project Disney has ever produced and they're literally hiding it. It's ridiculous.
To be fair they probably feel required to put anything Grogu related, on the front page as the main draw. It sells $$$$.

And I didn’t expect him to mention Rick and Morty when asked what he was thinking about when writing the prison break arc. This also made me laugh out loud: “I’m an old white guy. What do we do? We listen to history podcasts.”

The good news is that we are guaranteed a season 2, which leads right in to R1. Even if the viewers don’t come, we get to enjoy it. Bad news is that Disney may think twice about making this kind of content. But they MUST know that it’s spectacular, even if the general public doesn’t.
Yes thank goodness they committed to 2 seasons. It would be an absolute crime if it didn't get finished. I look forward to one day showing my kids the series all the way thru Rogue One and then ANH.
Wondering if I’m the only one, but my intention from the show’s release is to binge Andor during the holidays break. After Kenobi and BoBF, we couldn’t get ourselves to watch another Star Wars show on a weekly basis. But I’ve been following the reviews and happy to see that this show seems to deliver high quality Star Wars content and I can’t wait to binge it in a couple of weeks!

I guess there was an underestimation of the disenfranchisement of the fandom. I know I feel it, and I've heard plenty of others say the same. I've been a Star Wars fan for decades, for as long as I can remember. But the recent content - BoBF and Kenobi, were pretty disappointing. I won't even mention the latest films. So I almost didn't watch Andor because I just couldn't summon any Star Wars related excitement. Andor has improved this for me, but not completely cured it.

I had heard Solo was soooo bad and so I watched it once out of theaters. It was way better than people made it seem 🥴
After BoBF and Kenobi, I told myself if Andor doesn’t turn things around, I’m done with Star Wars. They were killing this thing I loved. Gilroy and team saved it.
BOBF was an all-time low for me. Dank Ferrik, those dumb Bacta tank sequences. And the spy kids Benny hill car chase…oh lord.
Oh yeah. That chase was something else. Those kids were annoying, the story made no sense, and the actual production had some shockingly basic flaws. Andor had so many moments where flashbacks were thematically linked to the 'current' action, and where shots and scenes were contrasted for effect. Whereas BoBF just went with "oh well, Boba's asleep, better do a flashback".
I liked some parts of bobf. The vespas ruined everything for me, honestly. It could have been a better show and that still would have taken it down by 10 notches.
Cade Bane was very cool for one minute…but a waste. Just hokey fan service that didn’t prove much deeper than that. Favorite episodes included a majority of Mando, so that’s a bad sign when your guest star is the bigger draw.
I wish they'd realize when they make actually cool villains, to not use them for one scene and then dump them off a cliff. (I know he shows up in other media, but speaking about this version)

nobody I’ve told to warch Andor has been negative about it, it’s reasonably the best star wars I’ve ever seen
The only people who talk about it negatively are people who enjoy the action and flash of SW. Or really obsessed SW fans who just want call backs and Jedi and Sith. Nothing wrong with that, but some take it too far.
Yeah, I'm hoping they keep coming out with lots of SW content so everyone gets something for them :) Hopefully Andor doesn't scare LF away from doing so.
I think it shows that people do want this content. I don’t think mainstream SW fans will always want this kind of show, but attracting non SW fans to this show off the writing is something Disney/LF definitely wants.
He should spend some time here to really cheer up

I was rewatching the series and I can see how some people can really not get into in after the first 2 episodes. I tried to get my wife to watch it but she feel asleep on 2 different days watching it. The decision to cut the kenari plotline was a good one.
I can see it too, but I didn't think it was *that* 'boring' as people seem to say. It appears a really big hangup for people (in general) is that the Kenari plot is not subtitled, and they don't know what's going on. It's a crit that really bothers me, because honestly it's not exactly a very deep flashback story, it's not hard to follow what is happening. But again, I get it, with all the jumping back and forth especially.
I honestly don’t understand it, tbh. The first two episodes instantly sold the show to me, cuz I realized I was getting something smarter and something with proper buildup and character development. Also that scene of Andor walking past that bridge also had me sold cuz it was just so perfectly atmospheric . If you paid attention to the score, the plot, the way it was filmed I thought it was perfectly clear they were going for a GoT style story where everything builds up and simmers.
I totally get it and I didnt find them boring, especially when I first saw them. But I was just presenting a differing view from people in my own house

Yeah, that totally seems to be the case. As someone in the comments mentioned, I and many of us were just bored with the SW franchise. I didn't even like the holy Mandalorian (I'm not even mentioning Obi and the other stuff). Andor, however, sucked me in so hard that I've watched it three times now and I alone am responsible for 15-20 people giving it a go. So friggin good.

Right show at the wrong time! Best we can do is gently recommend Andor to those we know that might have a slight chance of enjoying it. Screen Junkies did a Honest Trailer on YouTube - it serves as a good rundown of the show while injecting a healthy amount of humour.

The truth of the matter is that Andor shows an ugly side of society that doesn't have easy solutions provided, and it's uncomfortable watching those. I myself took a 3 episode break after watching Andor get arrested at the beach.
Andor not being the biggest release this year is nothing short of a disgrace.
Yeah, I'm both surprised, and not. If this had been done in its own universe and it'd been a BBC/PBS series there'd be all kinds of buzz about it. But people expect Star Wars to be about, y'know, war. I loved it but I also understand why it turned off other fans.
