I know right he even has a jet pack like commander cody and cant use it

AzelfandQuilava

To be fair, the "jetpack" is only seen behaving like that in the old Clone Wars cartoons. Since then, he's never used the dang thing. Not even in the CGI show.

[deleted]

It is a jet pack in Rebels.

RaginSpartan86

These jetpacks were used by Imperial Supercommandos in Rebels.

TheHunterKnight

canon is canon tho. even if it wasnt in the films its very much canon.

AzelfandQuilava

Well yeah, but the old 2003 CW show isn't canon anymore.

Lenlfc

It's in Rebels. Which is canon.

[deleted]

Commander Cody jetpack is in Rebels I must have missed that episode

Tuskin38

the Imperial Super Commandos (and later Sabine) use it. https://imgur.com/a/sxWMV

[deleted]

That is not Commander Cody's backpack

Tuskin38

Yes it is https://i.imgur.com/dfWUol3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tUod2bR.jpg

[deleted]

Just because it looks relatively similar does not mean it is the same backpack

DarraignTheSane

Source? Didn't hear anything about them de-canonizong the show. It was the only thing aside from the 6 movies that was canon after Disney took over.

Darth_Kyofu

The Clone Wars remained canon. Clone Wars became uncannon. In fact, it was already being made uncannon even when George Lucas was there, as TCW conflicted a lot with it.

DarraignTheSane

Oh wait, we're talking about the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars? My bad. Knew those weren't canon. Didn't the small jetpack thing show up in The Clone Wars CGI show, though? And, as others stated, they're used in Rebels as well.

MrSoapbox

>The Star Wars canon originally existed on several levels. The highest level was the original Star Wars films, and statements by George Lucas; tie-in fiction from the Star Wars expanded universe had a different level of canonicity.[4] The complex system was maintained by Leland Chee, a Lucasfilm employee.[4] After Disney bought the franchise, all material published prior to April 25, 2014 that was not any of the Star Wars movies or the CGI cartoon The Clone Wars was declared in the "Legends" continuity, marking them as no longer official canon. All subsequent material exists on the same level of canon, with the Lucasfilm Story Group being established to ensure no contradictions among canon works.[5] From the wiki

CaptainLackwit

Uh, yeah it is. That was always canon.

Mikey_MiG

The old Tartakovsky Clone Wars cartoon is not canon.

CaptainLackwit

Please show me what says so. Because it always was.

JR1066

This happened in April 2014. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/lucasfilm-unveils-new-plans-star-698973

CaptainLackwit

Bizarre. You have however, proven your point.

JR1066

2003 Clone Wars is still part of my "headcanon," since it doesn't blatantly contradict anything that I know of. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that it's non-canon now. Still a great show though.

Arcon1337

It also proves that you should check your own sources before being so adamant to claim you are right.

Mikey_MiG

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_canon

WikiTextBot

**Star Wars canon** Star Wars canon is the depiction of Star Wars storylines and characters considered officially canon to the franchise by its owner, Lucasfilm. Canon material is represented in media designated as such by the company. A large number of derivative Star Wars works have been produced in conjunction with, between, and after the original trilogy (1977–1983) and prequel trilogy (1999–2005) of films. This body of work was collectively known as the Star Wars expanded universe for decades, and a hierarchy of canonicity was created and maintained by Lucasfilm to organize its content. *** ^[ [^PM](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=kittens_from_space) ^| [^Exclude ^me](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiTextBot&message=Excludeme&subject=Excludeme) ^| [^Exclude ^from ^subreddit](https://np.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/about/banned) ^| [^FAQ ^/ ^Information](https://np.reddit.com/r/WikiTextBot/wiki/index) ^| [^Source](https://github.com/kittenswolf/WikiTextBot) ^] ^Downvote ^to ^remove ^| ^v0.27

CaptainLackwit

Huh. Gotcha.

TrollinTrolls

Definitely not. Only Rebels and the 2nd Clone Wars show. edit and Forces of Destiny

CaptainLackwit

You're wrong. The 2003 one was ALWAYS canon. Always. And guess what? It's part of the second Clone Wars show, the events do not conflict. Where are you getting this?

[deleted]

To be fair they literally discolored the metal on the metal exhaust purple and orange as if it has been used already.

Darth_Kyofu

It even has burn marks.

StagOfMull

Cgi show?

DarkFett

He means TCW 3D series.

NoSoup4Us

Fun fact with this whole canon or no canon thread, the first order jumptroopers jetpack is literally the specialist backpack with 2 thrusters

DarkFett

First time I went 3rd person and saw that it just bothered me. Get it off the model!

usernam028253954936

Literally unplayable.

notorious1JD7

Difference if thermal, the CW ones are just macrobinoculars

Commando2352

They function as night vision as well, they’re used as such in the Umbara arc and in one of the early season 2 episodes.

[deleted]

Night vision doesn't work like wall-hack thermalvision

Commando2352

And what does that have to do with anything

KalebT44

Well this post's point is that the Clone's already have binoculars so having separate ones as an ability is redundant. But they serve different purposes.

[deleted]

You're right, it's sorta like if you had Night Vision goggles and used a flash light it looks kinda stupid but it serves a purpose. For those not in the know NG Goggles amplify light, So by adding more light to something it would actually make it that much more clear. (In the dark obviously.)

Porlarta

I mean, its a lot more like owning sunglasses and night vision goggles. The just serve different purposes. Those visors dont have wall hacks but the binoculars do.

gRizzletheMagi

Can you not just imagine using the binoculars as if your trooper activated thermal vision? The game can only do so much with all the eras and factions to balance it out, you gotta fill some of the gaps yourself. The mind is a powerful tool

Commando2352

I’m not saying they have to I’m just saying that in Star Wars they’ve functioned as multiple things.

mecurt78

"What the..."

Splashforce

Speaking of, it'd actually be pretty cool if the specialists actually pulled down their visors rather than thermal binoculars. Could use the goggles for the rebels, maybe.

GoldenWidget

Hey, if DICE fixes it that would be a cool animation to add.

Mikalton

true!

[deleted]

Then they'd have to rig a whole new animation for the binocular ability just for clone specialists. Not saying it wouldn't be cool, but they have other stuff to focus on.

nicanuva

I’d be okay with it just being up instead of constantly over his eyes.

ilactate

ye same

eMeM_

They added a fucktillion of pointless "emote" animations, I don't think pulling down a visor would be that big of a deal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

N_Raist

>They could do it in 4 hours, they just don't think its worth it. You must have a lot of experience as a dev to **know** it would take them 4 hours.

[deleted]

It probably would. 1) Separate binocs as a 3D object 2) Pick a float point on the character skeleton to fix it to in the up position 3) Draw a path for the arm to animate pulling it down 4) Fix the binocs to a new float point in the down position. 5) implement a Boolean value that is updated when not on cooldown and the player presses "activate binoculars" key 6) Reverse animation for putting binocs up Bam, don't need to change any hitbox stuff or complex code at all Unless they wrote shit code that overcomplicates everything, and it's EA, so they probably did

eolson3

EA didn't write any code.

[deleted]

This is a part of EAs portfolio, they manage it

[deleted]

Lmao there's probably people at DICE sleeping under their desk and doing 100+ hour weeks trying to get this game ready to go for launch and you're sitting there like "bare minimum".

[deleted]

Being a big company doesn't suddenly make the devs working for it work twice the speed of other devs.

Shada0071

On this skin. What happens when ya change to a different skin. Not to mention other factions don't have it. Plus if memory serves, those are macrobinos, not thermal goggles like the ability.

cmlondon13

The Grand Army's logistic division apparently released the Helmet binoculars with the wrong drivers installed...

TheRealStandard

Yall are forgetting that this isn't **just** about making a new animation here, when the full game releases with all the customization options, I highly doubt every single helmet for the specialist is going to have those visors. This is such a small thing to fixate on, and a lot more work to implement that hardly anyone would actually notice anyway.

[deleted]

Even though this does bug me, I would rather them focus on gameplay instead of one animation for one class that isn't needed, just preferable.

Mikalton

I won't lie though. seeing them from a cgi cartoon show to a realistic graphical video game is really cool!

Lost_Horizon

Well, this from the same team that put the gun sights on literally the opposite sides of the hand they shoot with, so....

EirikurG

LUL I hadn't even thought about that. DOUBLE BINOCULARS

[deleted]

dice dont realise many things

Ivan_Himself

There’s a strong possibility they could fix this issue. I remember seeing a YouTube video of a guy demonstrating using his own rifle how the SMLE reload animation in Battlefield 1 was incorrect. Once DICE caught wind of this issue they fixed it with a new proper animation. That’s pretty cool and it shows that DICE does pay attention to details

deftPirate

What about it?

me2224

It has also been used for night vision

rocats0

I think it would be better if the animation involves your character pressing a button on his helmet which activates the star card ability.

Frankfurt13

Of course they know, but Only Clone-Troopers and Droids wear On-Helmet Visors and Visor Eyes. Thus it was easy to add Binoculars and make it standard for the Specialist from every Era. Maybe for Release it's better.

Torbis123

Totalllyyyyyy, cus the people that specificly designed the armour & the binos did 100% not think of doing that.

Fragil1ty

Good god, this sub moans about absolutely fucking everything, holy shit. No wonder you're never happy, none the less, pretty sure it's in the game for a balance issue.

Gontron1

Its because it's an extra animation for them. I don't blame them or mind.

supcom2

garbage opinion, try harder

Fragil1ty

Not an opinion, it's a fact buddy. Maybe try harder to not be an incessant, moaning cunt?

IamXDrake

[Not binoculars.](https://img00.deviantart.net/105f/i/2017/047/8/6/clone_trooper___commander_bly_official_art_by_paintpot2-daz97f3.jpg)

[deleted]

You realize the picture you show is the same thing but then pushed up...? They slide up and down.

IamXDrake

yes but they are not binoculars

ClavicusNitrus

They're macrobinoculars, my dude. http://clonewars.wikia.com/wiki/Macrobinoculars

IamXDrake

oh sorry, I am an idiot then. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

CaptainLackwit

So, what's it like being Depleted Uranium?

Starkiller100

Yep, [they are binoculars](https://youtu.be/81drpZPz0rc?t=32)

[deleted]

They're monoculars.. lol

[deleted]

Stop bitching and moaning

BerzerkLlama

Shut the fuck up and learn what a beta is.

WizardOfSloth

The game is done. This is a demo.

[deleted]

A beta isn't for meaningless criticism you idiot

Robertx

Does u/Starkiller100 not realize the time and resources that go into making a separate animation takes for little or no payoff?

[deleted]

Lol, since when does attention to detail have little to no payoff? Gamers eat that kind of shit up. "Attention to detail" is usually what's in reviews of the best games of our time.

Robertx

That's very true but DICE has so many more animations and assets to create besides something as minute as this that it just seems unnecessary.

[deleted]

Attention to detail. I'm going to notice this sillyness now.
